Maya Winter

Quiet, shy, has the ability to bring about certain weather patterns.

0 · 225 views · located in Cryo

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by étoile

Description

Ghostly like, Maya has shoulder-length, white-blonde hair and piercing blue eyes. She is small and sweet-tempered, charming but a little shy. She can change the weather only around her and sometimes one other person standing close to her. Her memories of family are limited to that of a sister who she barely sees anymore. Young, only 16 years old, Maya has been able to hold her own for quite some time, but still manages to get into some trouble (for her athletic skills are quite weak).

So begins...

Maya fell against one of the rocks on shore. She was running from one of the many bandits in the wood, and she knew her powers would do nothing to help her. She turned around and saw them coming closer at her heel. There was no other choice but to simply start after the waters, frozen over. She altered the weather about her so the sun would penetrate and warm the floor so that the bandits would slip and fall into melted water. She continued to slip and fall and crawl towards the boats, unsure what they were there for, but sure that her life would depend on some sort of help. She began to cry out, but soon felt a hand grasp her ankle.

Gasping, she screamed and kicked the man in the face, untangling herself and continuing her journey towards the boats. Her breath was visible. She was frozen all around. She was only wearing a white dress in boots since she the bandits had taken everything else from her, even her life-saving knife. She quickly regained her feet and carefully but quickly continued to slide her way towards the boats, calling out for help.

Maya felt everything she saw begin to disappear, including the bandits. She kept running anyway, terrified of where she was or what she was doing...all she knew was that she wanted to be safe, away from those monsters.

Finally she tripped on the ground, which had suddenly gone icy and slippery, and tumbled across this new planet. She could hardly breathe right, the air was so hard to take in. She felt as though she were having some sort of attack, and couldn't get up. The vast emptiness of the land was almost more frightening than the bandits herself, but she was relieve to find that no one had been following her anymore. She took hold of the necklace she was wearing in the shape of a crescent moon, a sort of source of warmth for her. Her bare arms tickled with goose bumps. She was freezing, alone, and had no place to go.

The cold had often been a comfort, the biting winds and scarcity of food a stark reminder to the blood in his veins that he was to survive and live onward. Cryo had a way of weeding out the weakened and the lost, leaving the hardy, the strong in the wake of its destruction. Cryo was a goddess in this way, caressing him with cold fingers and whispering to him that his urges, his needs and feelings, were perfectly okay.

What he did, he did to assist Her in Her divine mission. Nothing more, nothing less.

Today, his weapons to carry out Her will consisted of a sniper rifle and a hunting knife. He always chose his weapons carefully before leaving his abode, finding the limits of selection both a challenge to himself and an honor to Cryo. Today, his spot was atop a cliff face, lying on his stomach, his lined winter coat wrapped around him, camoflaging him to the snow that drifted around him from atop the cliffside. He triggered a switch to turn on thermal vision, scanning the icy tundra for heat signatures - something, anything, that would register to be put against Cryo's test.

He found one in a tumbling figure - a woman, by her outline - and settled in to take his first warning shot.

A mile away, Maya Winter would hear a racketing boom, followed by the snow to her right suddenly erupting in a geyser of white. A second would erupt behind her, sending a swirling flurry over her head.

Kilo had found his first target.

Mitsuko warped into the barren wasteland and fell to her knees. "What did you just do?" she asked, as she slowly stood. She wiped the snow off of her cloak and studied the wasteland. Off in the distance she noticed something dashing across the icy surface. "Do you see that? Looks like they are running away from something" The woman fell face first into the snow, and lied motionless on the ground.

Justice was about to explain teleportation till he looked over to see what Mitsuko was talking about. "She looks..." Kamen pauses, examining the area. Something was off. It wasn't just the cold, icy landscape giving off an unwelcoming vibe. No, Kamen Justice had felt this sensation before. An annoying feeling where you know something is out there waiting to waste you, but you just can't quite place it. "Damn, this could be bad, but maybe we should go over and check it out," Kamen asks, hesitantly.

Mitsuko wearily began walking towards the woman. A sense of curiosity overtook her as she drew nearer, or perhaps her sense of morals kicked in making her feel like she couldn't leave this woman helpless in this wasteland. But in the back of her mind, she felt this may somehow be a trap. She shrugged this idea off. She noticed herself breathing heavily as she walked. "Are you having trouble breathing?" She asked Kamen.

He was thinking to himself when the question interrupted his thoughts. "What? Oh, not really. It takes quite a bit to make me get worked..." He wasn't worried for himself, but he couldn't help but notice Mitsuko's heavy breathing. "Are you feeling alright?"

Maya lifted her head against the cold, her eyes blurring from the dryness in the air. "Hello?" she whispered, her breath visible in the wind. "Hello?" she said again, focusing on a few figures not far from her, at least, what could only be a mile away. She looked around her, wondering where she was exactly. She must have gone through some portal of some sort to get to where she was. She grabbed her opposite arms and hugged herself tight, tears wanting to drip down her face. One moment, she was being chased down. The next, she was lost on a different planet, terribly lonely.

All she wanted was some warmth, some comfort. She rubbed her bare, dry skin with her hands but it did nothing. Even her feet were barren. Her blue eyes searched around for a home of some sort, a building, but she couldn't seem to find any.

"It's okay," she whispered to herself. "It's going to be okay. Just...breathe."

Chek kept low to the ground he was stunned by the amount of people here. He probably could have remained still but he dicided to move closer. Suddenly though more figures appeared most would have thought it a blur or that they were seeing things but Chek knew what teleportation looked like the way the snow was dispersed was a dead giveaway to him.

With this type of stuff he knew the Aschen would be around soon he probably should get out before they show but he decided to move forward he just couldn't leave these people to die. He got up from his prone position and began to walk toward the distant figures. He held his sniper rifle like a machine gun and kept it angled low.

He thought for a moment before he approached further debating on turning back or making contact. He was a bit out of breath as
well do to the thin air. So instead of going further he just waved his hand in the air in attempt of contacting the new arrivals.

Everett just continued his journey with a the few others towards the lights in the distance. He frowned to himself, hugging his arms tighter to his chest. Yep, he'd probably die out here, he was already beginning to convince himself of this, and the idea settled all too easily. Ugh.

Everett pushed a black lock of hair from his eyes.

Chek felt shots wiz pass him and hit the ground, moments after that the ground had begun to shake and what little light there was seemed to be blotted out for miles. Chek looked up and through the snowy clouds he could barely hear but he recognized the painful sound of an Aschen Reverence l.

He wasn't sure if the shooter was shooting at him or now but at this point he was convinced that the Aschen were attacking them. Of course this was all assumption on behalf of Chek but he hated the Aschen and to him this seemed like the most feasible response. The snow was blowing thicker now Chek began to crawl forward until something happened and he began to tumble right into the hole Maya had dug.

Next blinks and steps out, glancing back at the guards. "Can I have my rifle?" Chuckles happily and decides to take in all the landscape... It was beautiful out here. Nice, cold, numb, white and plain. This world was beautifully simple. "Whoa..." He loved it here!

The time was now, the rifleman decided, noting that several new targets had wandered into range. Refugees, castaways, those first stepping foot onto the planet - his planet.

With expedient movements, he unfolded his thermal shielding sheet, and pulled it over his body, the reflective elements trapping heat inside the little shelter, allowing him to hide from thermal censors with greater ease. All that one could see from the distance the refugees, castaways, and other varying new arrivals to Cryo were standing was snowy white mountains and jagged peaks.

Not the danger that lurked there.

With a whisper of a noise, the rifle was cocked again, and a twitch of a finger set it to automatic fire. He targeted six shapes in the distance, and squeezed the trigger, holding it down as the rifle kicked repeatedly against his shoulder, rapid explosions sounding over the snowy landscape.

---

An older man grunted at Next's spoken love of the planet they found themselves on, his leathery face spreading into a grin as he took it all in.

"Me too, lad," he said. "It's kind of hauntingly beautifu-"

The man suddenly jerked forwards as blood lanced from his torso to the crisp white snow, staining it crimson as he staggered. His head suddenly snapped downwards, a hole appearing in a split second, exposing brain tissue and bone as he flopped to the snowy floor, lifeless.

Explosions echoed out as more men and women fresh from the transport fell to the ground, screaming out in agony and shock as the unknown gunman continued to fire, determined to thin their numbers.

The figure appeared to be coming closer and closer, until another gunshot was fired and suddenly, Maya gasped and snuggled further back into her small, dug out hole. The figure took the shape of a man who appeared just as confused as she was.

Her breaths became heavy yet quick; not the best combination for this kind of place. "Who are you and what do you want?" she asked, despite his apparent circumstance. She fumbled with her dress and made sure it was wrapped around tight on her. Her skin had gone completely white, and within minutes began to hint purple hues. Suddenly she didn't care so much about him or what he was going to do to her--her heart felt like it was slowing, her breaths becoming lighter. Her hand reached her moon necklace again, the metal combined with her skin creating a small source of heat, turning an orange color.

Chek looked at her shocked the he ended up in the hastily dug hole. "I'n ah Chek um I was checking out what that ship was doing here when someone started shooting." He knew it must have looked very suspicious that he had his own sniper rifle but as shots still seemed to be being fired it was clearly impossible for him to be a single shooter.

He looked at her necklace as it began to glow. "That ah might not be the best idea he probably is using a thermal scope visibility so your going to make yourself a big target." He said Chek began to think over the situation if there was a shooter it was going to be damned near impossible to find him.

Everett watched the man drop to the ground, a look of fear quickly spreading across his even paler than normal face. He could no longer feel his feet. He looked up to find the source of the shot.
