She lay flat on her back, spread out across the smooth, aged surface of stone that jutted out over the weed-strewn valley below. She had her hands behind her head, eyes on the sky, idly contemplating what, if any, her next move was going to be.

Traveling wasn't easy, especially for someone who wasn't all that used to the road. Mikki was young, not even nineteen, and she was completely out of contact with anyone she was familiar with. With no money, she'd avoided the city and its hotels, opting to come out to a place where the ghosts of old buildings would keep her company.

With a sigh, she sat up slowly, her hands pressing to the stone as she drew her knees to her chest. Tough girl, she thought, sleeping outside by yourself. Tough girl.

Lonely girl.

She caught sight of the light before she heard Lark's approach. Her eyes squinted curiously, one brow lifting as she moved to sit on her knees. It was dark out, making the pinpoints of light that much easier to see.

Weird.

She managed to get to her feet, walking over to the pillar she'd climbed, and slowly began her climb down.

At the half-way point, though, she slipped, and with a sharp cry, lost her footing, tumbled down the piling of rock, and landed in an unceremonious heap on the grass near to Lark.

"Let...me get back to you on that..." she mumbled, rolling to her side as she got an elbow up underneath her. With a grunt, she shoved herself to her knees, lifting her hands and rubbing them along the back of her head. Nothing broken. She didn't seem to be bleeding. All was well.

At least, she hoped so.

"Seem to be." she finally said, looking up at the young man. Mm. Interesting. "I wasn't creeping," she said suddenly. "I just..don't have money for a hotel in-town so I decided to camp out."

Realizing this was probably a lame way to introduce herself to someone, she stood, roughly five inches shorter than he, and extended a hand adorned in fingerless gloves.

"Name's Mikki." she said rather lamely.

"I was thinking the same thing." She shook his hand, then reached up to scratch at a spot behind her ear. Her hair was dark, just about chin-length, and in an untidy mess from her tumble.

She saw the shadows created from the lights, and turned to glance over her shoulder, taking a cautionary step back as she did so.

How odd...

"So," she said, trying to distract herself. "What...what're you doing all the way out here Lark? Kinda late to just be going on a walk."

"You might be late." Mikki noted. "I, er, can point you in the right direction if you want. In fact, I could walk with you there." Sure beat being here with the weird jellyfish things.

"So, um, fundraising for what? Charity or something?" She wasn't intentionally being oblivious. She was just a tad distracted, for the most part, and she knew nothing about the young man.

A professional fighter? That certainly was an interesting thought. She stepped a little closer to him, one brow lifting as she theatrically whispered in his ear.

"I'd love to. Do you think those space-blobs have hyperspeed?"

She was wondering if they could outrun the jellyfish blobs.

"Do lets." she murmured, spinning on her heel and trotting after him. "So, you said you fight. Cage fighting? Melee? Do you use weapons?" The questions sort of rattled off her tongue, belying the fact that she knew, well, a fair bit about fighting herself.

"I saw the gloves, but I didn't know that meant you fought with them. Sometimes I just tape my hands or go bare-fisted." she explained, smiling to herself as she clasped her hands behind her back, walking along-side of him.

"For fun." she replied. "Not professionally. There aren't a whole lot of people who would willingly go out and fight a girl." She shrugged, slipping her hands into her pockets as they continued to walk. She had a spring to her step, apparently a lot of energy, and turned her gaze up towards the stars.

"But, I mean, the way I fight is a little different. Unique. Hand to hand, yes, but...with a little...spark."

She smiled, as though there was some sort of inside joke.

"I'm not really sure. Sort of looking for a place to stay at this point. My town back home, it, uh..."

Simply didn't exist anymore.

"Isn't really the place for me anymore." she continued with a bright smile. "It's a little nerve-wracking, being out on my own, but I'm enjoying it so far."

She shook her head. "No, unfortunately."

She fell silent for a long moment, glancing over to him with a mild shrug. "Sorry if this is all a little awkward. Not every day that you meet someone quite like..this." She pointed up. "I, er, quite literally fell out of the sky."

She put both of her hands, dragging them down her cheeks before shaking her head. Awkward. Awk. Wurd.

"I, well.." Mikki laughed too, more as a tension relief than anything else. "I guess not. You don't seem like the type who'd fabricate something to impress a stranger." She crossed her arms over her chest, the faint glimmer of a five-point-star etched into the palm of her glove becoming faintly visible for just a moment.

"Too bad I don't get to meet nice guys like you on the fly more regularly." she said with a shrug.

Another moment's pause.

"Eh, well, where is it that we're headed?" she took a deep breath through her nose and sighed. Man, she did NOT usually have this much difficulty talking to someone, a boy someone, damn her.

"Sounds good." Mikki put her hands behind her head, casually striding at his side as she let her thoughts wander to the circumstances surrounding their meeting. She wished more random, friendly encounters happened like this. The last time she'd run into someone, he'd been from a rival town, and the conversation had turned sort of ugly.

"How long do you plan on staying here?" she asked, looking over at him. "Are you studying or anything on the side?"

"As long as I need to." she replied apologetically. "Sorry, I'm not much of a planner." That came with being 19. "I kind of like to go where impulse guides me. I'm not really looking for anyone or anything, don't have much of a purpose at this point. Just living for living's sake."

Sort of a lonely existence if one were to think critically on it.

"I did almost fall on you." she agreed with a smile. The forest was beginning to fall away, leaving behind the trees in favor of pavement and street lamps. It appeared as though they'd arrived on Main Street.

"So, uh, you opposed to fighting a girl?" she asked with a small smile.

"Like a spar, first one to three core-strikes wins." She was about to explain in further detail, but the sudden sound of a phonebook being torn in half drew her attention forward. Her eyes widened as a figure stepped out of literally nothing, and greeted the pair with a less-than-respectful term.

"What he said," she added, gesturing to Lark.

"Um.." Her lips pulled to a thoughtful frown as she shrugged. "No? I'm not the one who has professional experience. You tell me. What would you want to establish if our positions were switched?"

"Uh, don't poke my eyeballs out?" Mikki said with a laugh. "I, um, whatever seems to be common courtesy I guess. Just our bodies as weapons, nothing more."

Seemed easy enough.

"Loser buys dinner?" she asked with a smile, widening her stance just a little as she watched him. Her gaze narrowed slightly, flickering around, looking for an opening. She threw her arms up as well, stepping closer, hesitating a moment..

...before delivering a straight-forward punch with her right fist, aiming for the space between his arms.

She caught the blow to her stomach, grunting and bending slightly forward. As she flexed, her left leg extended a short ways behind her, intending to catch hold of the ankle of his forward leg. The moment she did so, she brought the elbow of her extended arm back, trying to catch his jaw, and even better than that, trying to get him to lose his balance.

She had to struggle to maintain her own balance when he fell, so when his leg came out and caught her shins, there was no stopping it. She fell forward, absorbing the impact into her hands as she grunted from the blow.

Rolling to the side, away from him, she sprang to her feet and formed a defensive stance, a wide smile lighting up her face.

She hadn't had this much fun in a while.

She lifted her chin, gesturing to him with a wide smile. "Quit talking and take your turn. Nice hand-stand by the way."

She suddenly lifted a brow. "You weren't in gymnastics were you?"

She threw up her arm immediately, leaning her face to the side as his wrist smacked sharply against her forearm. She wasn't prepared for the blow to her abdomen, though.

Huffing a breath, her left hand, the one that wasn't deflecting his attempted strike to her face, snapped out and grabbed his wrist. She knocked his other hand away, twisted under his arm, and attempted to pivot him over her shoulder to flip him onto his back.

When she felt her balance shifting, she threw her opposite arm forward, latching to his leg while simultaneously shoving her knee in between his. She would fall, inevitably, but rather than ending up on her back, she landed hard on her side, in a confusing tangle of arms and legs. However, since she had a good grip on his left leg, she attempted to move to her knees, securing his shin in her grip, and tried to roll him to his belly.
