Naazmat Chakladar

"Yes, I am a Hindu and I am a woman and I am an Indian. But first, I am a person. My loyalty is not to Vishnu or Krishna or Mohandas Gandhi or Susan B. Anthony. My loyalty is to the Constitution and to law and order in America."

Description

PROFILE UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Naazmat is in her mid-fifties, petite, with a slight build. Her face is round, with a chiseled jaw and prominent, sloping forehead. Her round eyes are expressive, an immediate tell of her emotional train of thought, but often reflecting a sense of intelligence. She has a dark, rich chocolate complexion, and dark brown hair that falls to her thighs, usually tied back in a single braid. In the center of her forehead, affixed to the bone of her skull, is a small golden bead. She typically dresses in business professional attire when at work, or in a traditional shalwar kameez when not at work or for formal occasions.

History

Naazmat Chakladar was born in 1948, the middle child of three, to Dhamodhar and Bhavani Chakladar, born in near Jaipur in India. Naazmat attended school, excelling in the sciences and social studies, and after graduating high school, went to college for International Relations. After graduating from Syracuse University, Naazmat went to Georgetown Law School, and became a Rhodes Scholar, interning with the upper levels of the Department of Justice as a third year law student.

After earning her JD and passing the bar, Naazmat worked as a public defender for eight years in the inner city, before she served as a special advocate for special education cases in juvenile court for another three years. Later, Naazmat accepted a position as an assistant US attorney in Boston, and after nine years, advanced to the position of US Attorney when her predecessor retired. Naazmat was appointed a federal judge eight years later, and after serving for another ten years as a federal judge, Naazmat became the first ever Hindu woman appointed to a Cabinet level position as the Attorney General of the United States.

Following the American acceptance of statehood in the Aschen Confederation, Naazmat became a Chancellor in the Ministry of Law, replacing Travell.

Naazmat Chakladar entered the bar quietly, like any normal person, her entrance completely unremarkable as she took a seat up at the bar.

Normally, the Attorney General of the United States wouldn't be caught dead frequenting an establishment such as this rather shady, notoriously volatile bar, but she was on a mission, and so Naazmat Chakladar strode purposefully into Gambit's Bar, piercing gaze sweeping across the other patrons as she looked for one particular face.

Naazmat Chakladar did not notice Savine staring at her. That's when Naazmat spotted Kiran Ashwan. The Aschen markings on the man's uniform were a dead giveaway. Eyes narrowing, Naazmat made her way over toward the Sergeant, seemingly oblivious to the commotion surrounding him with the others. She waved her file in her hand furiously.

"Maynard may have made a devil's deal with that slimy bastard Zarek," Naazmat shouted, eyes flashing dangerously, "but that gives you people NO RIGHT to permit some convict warlord to drag the frakking bitch on some sort of half-assed suicide mission! WHAT THE FRAK IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?!" Naazmat had never behaved like this before, and certainly never in public, but she was at the end of her rope as far as the Aschen and the Ali case were concerned.

Naazmat fumed. She glared at Kiran Ashwan. "Frakking incompetent bastards," she muttered, eyes shooting daggers at Drakus Flavaar, whose presence seemed to be occupying most of Kiran's attention.

"Tahira Ali! The convicted terrorist! The bitch that Adar saw fit to pardon, and that Maynard let you ship off to Hadante EXCEPT SHE'S NOT THERE ANYMORE!!!" Naazmat was practically screaming, shaking her fist at the man. The sheer incompetence of these people was amazing.

Naazmat's eyes narrowed, and she spat, while at the same time she would put years of Krav Maga to good use, attempting to remove the threat of the man's thumbs in a quick motion of turning with her arm raised which if it succeeded, she would also slam down with a fierce hammerfist aimed at the side of the man's head, the two movements fluid and rapid.

Naazmat moved nimbly now, her head clear, and utterly pissed at herself for giving in to foolish anger, as she dodged the fireballs, though one came a bit close, singing her cheek. She dropped to a fighting stance, unsure whether to keep it to close combat, or to draw her gun, as the man's energy blade appeared. "Look - I'm sorry," she shouted, "but you choked me first!" in a pretty pathetic attempt at diplomacy.

Naazmat remained in a fighting stance, eyes burning as she spoke in a low, even tone. "I made a mistake. Surely you can respect honest mistakes. I've been unduly harassed and subject to undeserved contempt from a number of Aschen officials over the past several days, and I'm sorry. But can you find out what the hell is happening with Tahira Ali? She's the woman who assassinated Vallis."

"Ali is a one woman threat to the Aschen civilization," Naazmat snapped. "Yours and ours." She paused then. "I'm sorry. I didn't introduce myself. I'm Attorney General Chakladar, United States of America. And it is my duty to ensure Ali does not have the opportunity to destroy our respective civilizations."

Naazmat relaxed her fighting stance and shook Kiran's hand firmly, with a smooth, practiced movement. "A pleasure," she said. "In America, Ali's case is widely known, even among our youth. She is a convicted terrorist, part of a revolutionary group called Hataf which renounces all governments not endorsed by their leaders. Your courts just sentenced her to life on Hadante, but it seems your prison authorities have managed to let her leave the planet. . . a terrible proposition."

"It shouldn't have happened in the first place," Naazmat said testily, then sighed. "I'm sorry - I've just been very frustrated with people in both our governments. And this situation isn't improving my outlook. You're in the middle of a war. But Ali poses a threat greater than any conventional enemy does - that's the very definition of major terrorist threat. I need concrete results. But your government has given me nothing - and frankly, it's not just the Aschen. My president is breathing down my neck for answers."

"I was told, evidently by accident," Naazmat said drily, "that Ali is currently on board a Gou'auld mothership on a suicide mission, heading into battle in your. . . war."

Tahira Ali turned, then, eyes narrowing at Joseph Porter, a man whose face she knew immediately she did not know, and frowned, a small downturn of her lips, as she regarded him warily, unsure of his intent. "I beg your pardon?" she said softly, her English heavily accented.

Tahira Ali: Ali's frown deepened then, as she took in the words the man spoke. She was not accustomed to the English language, not nearly as much so as with her mother tongue, but the words she understood. "You don't have to do this," Ali said, her voice almost a whisper, as she shook her head. "You don't have to do this." Her pleas lacked emotion, but she did not want to fight this man.
