'You should not be here, Noah.'

Noah rolled his eyes as he pushed open the door of the bar, glancing around at the patrons. "Lighten up, Lumi," he murmured under his breath, "I've heard enough about the crazy shit that happens here that I wanted to check it out now I can take care of myself."

'Now that we can take care of you, you mean. You're endangering yourself unnecessarily. If you die, where does that leave us?

"I'll be fine..." he muttered, shaking his head. The young mage sauntered up to the bar, ordering himself a beer before leaning back on the counter and surveying the room. "A lot more mundane than I expected..."

Noah looked to Tala as she spoke, "Me? Whatever it is, I didn't do it." The youth raised an eyebrow as the girl went on to ask her question though. He tilted his head in thought, "That depends who you ask, really. Lots of calendar systems here."

He grinned, "Got any idea which world's relative date you're looking for?"

Noah shrugged, "I'm not from there, but luckily for you there are a lot of people here who are. I think that it's twenty-thirteen for them, unless time's out of sync here or whatever." He grinned, "I wouldn't rule that out, mind, planetary orbits being different and all."

As his drink arrived, Noah took a swig. "You from there, then? Or why didn't you know? Been hibernating or something?" he asked, before pausing. "And can I get you anything to drink?" he added with a smirk.

Noah nodded slowly as Tala spoke, with the occasional "mmhmm, mmhmm..." interspersed between. He maintained the smile on his face even as the girl spiralled off into talking about voices in her head -- though come to think of it, who was he to judge?

'That's different, you have dragons in your head, not just voices.'

"Oh yeah because that makes all the difference..." he murmured before thinking. He blinked, "Ah uh... that wasn't to you. Er, that was. To... someone. Else. Ahah... but yeah, I sort of get you. A bit?"

"Uhm..." Noah looked to the side awkwardly. Talking to someone about the voices in each others' heads? What ever would his mother say? "Er, well, it's kinda different. They aren't exactly in my head, as such, they're in my hand."

He paused. "... that sounds dumb, look." He lifted his palm up, displaying the five coloured circles in it, "In those. They're orbs. Spirit orbs, with spirits in. That are now in me. They're dragons. Dragon spirits, that is, not ... yeah, you get what I mean. Most of them stay quiet unless I call them."

"I uh, found them," Noah said, shrugging. It sounded a lot less impressive than the other things, but he figured lying wouldn't get him anywhere good. "Yeah. Nothing as exciting as that. I found them in a temple while I was exploring. I'm not meant to have them, but I didn't really have much choice. They kinda stuck in me before I knew what they were."

'If you'd been sitting in a dusty box for hundreds of years, wouldn't you take the first chance to get out with both hands?'

"And they came in the orbs," He went on, not replying to Lumiere. "It wasn't really a conscious thing. Most of them don't consider me very good conversation, I think. I imagine an average teenager doesn't have much to contribute to an age old dragon."

'You shouldn't be so hard on yourself. We're all rather out of date with the world, at least you know what a car is.'

"O..kay. Bye. I guess." Noah was left blinking after the bizarre woman, shaking his head. "That was weird." he muttered.

'Even for a girl with other beings in her head, she did seem eccentric. You should be careful around her.'

"She seems harmless enough..." he said, knocking back another gulp of beer.

'Unpredictable is what she seems. And would you stop drinking that poison?'

"You sound like my mother."

'Your mother is a wise woman.'

"Uhhhhhhhg."

Noah Aldwell eventually slipped out of the bar as things started to die down, still occasionally muttering something to Lumiere as he went.

It had all happened in a flash. The fire had started seemingly without any cause, and spread more like it was in a dried out forestland than an inner city junkyard. Pouring forth into the air and towering above the cars that were driving by, it had clearly been something more than just a fire.

Noah had been walking towards the area on his way towards the city centre when he had seen the smoke. On investigating, he found that he was inadequately prepared to be greeted with a raging fire elemental casting gouts of flame into buildings and fleeing bystanders. The youth shrieked, cowering away from it behind a street corner as it rampaged. Where were the police? The fire department? Even in Wing City this qualified as a heck of a bad start to a day.

He looked down at the colourful orbs in his palm, breathing heavily. Maybe now was the time he could actually do something useful with his new powers. He wasn't exactly practised with them, but he couldn't just stand by and do nothing!

The elemental seemed to be surrounding a single small object at its centre, occasionally coming into view through the flames. This was in fact a discarded rune from a nearby magical weapons facility - one that had evidently not been deactivated properly.

Of course, Noah wasn't about to figure that one out. He hadn't even spotted it. Right now he was trying to figure out how best to approach the thing - fire would be useless, obviously. What hurt elementals? Maybe he could cool it off.

"If you're willing to play nice, Meridia, now would be the time..."

'You should reconsider, Noah,' the soothing voice of the water dragon flowed through his mind, 'As a vessel you are still untrained, it would be unwise to risk yourself in this way. Our magic is difficult to contain.'

"Yeah well," Noah grimaced, "It's either that or I sit and do nothing, and aren't you guys always going on about being 'honourable' and living up to what I've inherited? I reckon I got this."

With a deep breath, the youth stepped out into the street, lifting his palm. His eyes flashed blue, and the roar of the ice dragon echoed from the air around him. Any with the vision to see spirits would see her ethereal form swirling around him regally, gathering power.

The energy gathered in Noah's palm, spreading outwards, and the young mage struggled to contain it. "C'mon... work..." he muttered, before unleashing it.

What had been intended to be a beam of ice and frost from his hand stretched for about three feet before it exploded. The energy warped outwards into a blizzard of unnatural cold, flash-freezing the ground and cars around him and expanding to fill a large portion of the street.

"Shitshitshitshit..." Noah himself stood at the centre of this, trying to halt the pouring of power. This couldn't have gone much worse.

Noah hit the ground with a grunted 'oof', glancing up in surprise at the man who landed next to him. He was gone before Noah could utter a word, and the youth gaped after him as he flew onwards. Snapped from his staring by the hand on his arm, Noah regained his feet unsteadily.

Some help you were, he thought moodily to the retreating dragon spirit.

'I warned you, child.' Meridia retorted disdainfully, before vanishing from his thoughts back into the orb.

Noah stood on the sidelines as Rhea and Adriaan dispatched the elemental, and once it fell, he grit his teeth. Here came the lectures, he just knew it.

Noah blinked at Adriaan's cheerfulness, taking him aback by not having a go at him. Rhea's seeming apathy was similarly unexpected. Most skilled mages, he had found, had little tolerance for... overreaching, as it were.

"I'm fine, thanks to you guys... Wait, looking for me?" Noah was even more confused by this development, "Why were you... where do you want me to go? Who even are you?"

Noah raised an eyebrow, "You know about... 'course you do. Why else would you be looking for me? Well, if you can help, then I can't exactly say no. I kinda need it..." he laughed embarrassedly.

"I'm Noah," he replied to the introductions, "But you probably already knew that, right?" At the mention of the WCPD, he bit his lip sheepishly. "Right, yeaaah... probably best to avoid that. Lead on."

"Rheaaaaa..." a voice came from one of the doors off into the other parts of the temple, as Noah walked into the room, looking decidedly annoyed. "Can I stop making ice cubes yet? I must have made a freezer full of them by noww..."

The teenager stopped short as he realised the people in the dining hall were not any of the people he knew to dwell in the temple. "Oh- hello. Who are you guys..?"

Noah glanced from side to side awkwardly, as nobody deigned to answer him. "Uhh... I kinda live here, so, if you guys could tell me who you are, that'd be nice? I mean, I'm pretty sure you're fine to stay, but you know. Introductions are polite?"

He coughed, "Aheh, those are some nice guns you have there..." he said nervously.

"There's a kid here too?" Aw man, Noah hated kids. "I'm Noah... nice to meet you, Al?" A little girl called Al? Somebody wanted their kid to get bullied.

He blinked at her display and shouting, nodding his head slowly. "Uh, right. I mean, I'm sure that usually works." Yeah, Noah wasn't great with kids.

He glanced up at the soldier speaking, blinking, "Um, yup. I knew some of those words. Don't mind the what? The odd what?" Noah sighed, "I'm Noah," he repeated, "I live here with the Patronus."

Noah shook his head, "No, no, don't leave. I'm pretty sure travellers are welcome to stay whenever. I just wanted to know what was up," the boy smiled, "Always room to misinterpret walking into a room with guys with guns, right?"

He chuckled, giving Al an odd look as she retreated, "Uh, careful kid, it's stormy out there." he called after her. And what was wrong with fire? He liked fire, fire actually mostly did what he told it to.

Noah just stared at Al-ice with a perplexed expression. Was this a normal kid thing? Who ever had the idea of giving kids magic? Why was there a kid out here anyway? Should he be calling missing persons?

Guhh. Kids were complicated.

"I'm staying outta this," Noah said, raising his arms and shaking his head, "Far as I'm concerned you're both pretty out there. I can't follow what's going on here at all! Just play nice, I dunno."

Noah waved a dismissive hand, "Won't be the last time someone does that, kid, better to deal with it now than be traumatised in school." He frowned as she started crying, "Stop that, please?"

When that didn't work, he sighed. "Okay, whatever. Don't stop. I'm just gonna practice making ice cubes over here.."
