Outside the bar, a small figure stood staring up at the multi-storey hotel that towered above the establishment with his arms folded. The young man frowned, his overly-youthful features creasing in mistrust at the building. Having been directed here after inquiring about a place to stay, Oriel wasn't quite sure how to proceed.

This place - and indeed all of its surrounds - were nothing quite like any inn or building the young blonde soldier had ever seen, but he'd just about gotten over that by now, and reached the dilemma of questioning the safety of the complex. He was quite certain that the building had been destroyed several times in the few days he was exploring the city, to some extent, and wasn't sure that he wanted to live in a place that fell down quite so often.

After a long time standing and pondering, Oriel eventually sighed and shrugged. He stepped forwards and pushed open the door of the bar, red travelling cloak fluttering slightly with the motion. Within, he gave the patrons a cursory wary glance before making his way to the counter.

"Uhm... is there a bartender here? Innkeeper? Something of that nature..?"

"No..? There is nothing? Nobody?" Oriel frowned again, drumming his fingers slightly awkwardly on the surface of the counter. Well, now what, Sparks? You're much better at this improvisation stuff at home, try something out! Who looks like they know this place?

Oriel glanced around the bar tentatively.

Okay, brain, that was a good plan but sadly, nobody here looks like the type you'd ask for directions. Where are the nice old people? Probably at that cafe you passed ten minutes ago that had a sign outside it for teacakes. Maybe you should go ask there? That would seem a little awkward, though.

"Um ..." Oriel casually (or at least, what he thought was casually and really seemed rather forced) turned to point himself at Rowen and Ariane. "Do you know who I need to talk to about ... staying here? The hotel bit?" Oriel plaintively gestured with the bag of belongings he was carrying.

"Right." Oriel frowned and turned to look at the automatic menu pensively. "Right ... Touch screen."

Oriel poked the screen where it said 'Hotel'. A map of the hotel appeared on the screen, and it told him to select a floor. Thankfully for the technologically inept young soldier, it worked quite a lot like magic. Right up until the point where it told him to insert his card or credits.

"Um." Oriel blinked, "Card..?" he inquired slightly tentatively, glancing back at Rowan. "I'm not from around here ... what does it mean? Can I pay copper and silver?" Oriel jingled a little pouch which seemed to promise to contain such coinage. "Where do I put them? I am sorry ... this is a little embarrassing."

"Oh! Thanks." Oriel offered a fleeting-but-genuine smile to Rowan and poked at the button. The coinslot opened and a long list of currencies joined it on the screen. After some pondering, Oriel eventually just went for 'weight in precious metals', and finally was able to slot a few silver coins in.

Well then, that was accommodation sorted, Oriel thought to himself as a set of keys jingled out into the collection tray at the bottom, which he safely tucked into a pocket. Maybe now he could actually relax with a drink. After a little more confusion navigating the touch-screen, Oriel eventually managed to settle himself at the bar with a glass of apple juice.

Well, it wouldn't do to get drunk in a strange bar on his first night, right? Besides, juice was nice. It wasn't childish at all. Oriel settled in quietly and wondered how he would go about finding the people he was looking for in this rather large city, vaguely listening in on Rowan's and Cane's conversation simply due to proximity.

Oriel looked up from his drink at Ariane with a slightly awkward smile. "No, not much." he confirmed, "I've learned a lot since I started to travel, but this city was a big jump from what I'm used to."

The youth shook his head, "I'm from a place called Orlesia. It's ... well, I've no real idea what direction it is from here, but it's quite some distance away. We've just about worked out gunpowder and basic mechanics." he explained, before glancing up at 'Hero'.

"Those?" Oriel blinked, "I'm no blacksmith, but they look like mithril. I'm not sure about their coin value, but the metal is certainly valued for armour in Orlesia. Generally in larger quantities, though. They could be fake, though, as I said ... no blacksmith, or anything."

At that point, Oriel's attention was very much seized by Rowan and his transformation. The young man stared for a few moments, before looking up at Ariane. "Uh... did he just..? Is that supposed to... aren't they meant to be..?"

Oriel blinked. "Oh."

"I'm Oriel," the youth replied, returning the smile. "It is rather a nice place. Lots of picturesque rolling hills, not quite so much civilisation. Terrible habit of civil war, sadly..." Oriel laughed slightly. "Sorry. That's sort of an ... in-continent joke."

Not the best place to make that sort of reference, Oriel, better luck next time maybe? "Oh, well..." Oriel continued to stare rather vexedly at the bat-that-wasn't-a-bat-before-and-might-be-a-vampire-but-seems-rather-nice-for-that upon Ariane's arm. "It's nice to meet you, Ariane."

Oriel glanced at Hero. "And er, whoever you are. Possibly not quite as nice, but I guess it's better than a kick in the teeth. Unless you plan to, you know ... kick me in the teeth? I'd rather you didn't."

And then, at that point, something large and hair charged at Ariane. Oriel definitely didn't yelp, or squeak, or anything. He made a ... manly noise of surprise, and pulled out from beneath his cloak a six-barrelled turret pistol that he pointed pointedly at the wolf. "Inde, nae'cheyt! Inde, ver'shar cheyt!" he yelled, slipping back into his own language with the exclamation.

Bang bang bang.

Oriel's pistol sounded three times, and three bullets screamed through the air towards Garoux, one toward his throat and the other two toward his chest. Smoke trailed from the end of the barrels, and the small blonde youth scowled at the werewolf. "I warned you, hound." he muttered, waiting to see the result of his shots, ready to abandon the pistol and draw his rapier if necessary.

Oriel Garcia 's shots weren't aimed for Garoux's legs. Also, bullets are quite fast. Faster than, say, legs.

The sound of feet on the stairs would be briefly audible as a figure descended from the hotel above. His red travelling cloak left strewn in his room, the young blonde soldier emerged down into the bar in a simple set of cloth clothes, far more comfortable than the tough material of his uniform and armour.

Oriel glanced around the bar as he entered and made his way over to the counter, pausing to poke a few times at the automatic menu (because he knew how to do that now!) and order himself a drink. The youth settled at the bar counter, frowning as he lamented the lack of a bartender to ask for advice on where to start in his little 'quest' as it were.

Oriel looked up with a blink as someone ... or something, anyway ... approached the touch screen with the same look of confusion as he had had the previous day. It took the small man a few moments to decide that if the whatever-it-was was allowed to wander around in a bar, it ... probably wouldn't try and kill him if he talked to it.

Though, there had been that wolf thing yesterday... he wondered if Ariane and Rowan were alright. He resented having to leave mid-fight, and mentally stuck a middle finger up at the fourth wall.

"Need some help there..?" he offered Saren tentatively.

"Um. It was happening yesterday, and I've only been here two days." Oriel shrugged, "And I'm Oriel." he added. The soldier pointed at the screen "You just have to ... poke the option that you want. There's a button for physical coin, too."

Oriel sipped at his wine and pulled out what looked like a map from his pocket. Being Wing City, of course, the map was more confusing than it was helpful. It was probably inaccurate two days after it was made, which also probably explained why it had been so cheap...

Saren's sniffing wouldn't detect any magic within Oriel himself, but the weapons he carried were all enchanted in some way or another. Oriel shook his head, "Nope... nothing of the sort. I've seen undead before, but that's the closest as far as appearance goes."

The soldier shifted in his seat and took another sip of wine. "So ... uh, what are you? Oh, and as far as where I'm from, I'm from a place called Orlesia. I doubt that means much to you, mind."

Oriel blinked, "I think so? I have encountered golems before, but only animated material. Nothing sentient." he said. "Well, it's certainly.. um, nice. I'm no mage, so I can't really comment on the magic, but it sounds like some inspired magic."

Oriel blinked at Saren's hand and interpreted it as a shake, taking the metal hand and doing so. "Well, it's nice to meet you. Have you been here long?"

"Oh, well. I suppose a lot of people are accidents too, if you think about it." Oriel glanced off to the side slightly awkwardly, retracting his hand and nodding absently. "I meant, around here? Wing City? I'm sort of at a loss as to who might know where to point me if I'm looking for people."

Oriel frowned slightly at the odd look in Saren's eyes, shifting uncomfortably in his seat. "Can you? I'm looking for a man going by Arrow Flight, and a woman called Aliana Chevaleux. They're friends from Orlesia, who travelled here last year." he explained, "I'm afraid I have no idea where they might have ended up, aside from that Arrow has a habit of finding life-threatening situations and hopeless causes."

Oriel set his wine glass down upon the counter, "It's not really much to work with, which is why I'm not quite sure where to start..."

Oriel nodded happily, "Thanks! I will do so, and you are free to join me. I will probably set off tomorrow morning, so if you want to meet me outside the city gates at dawn, then that would most likely suit." the soldier said.

"It would be just like Arrow to have some sort of climactic battle and not invite me..." Oriel grumbled, "Just because I'm slightly younger than the rest of them."

"Perhaps." Oriel said, smiling, "I think perhaps they value me too much, in that they try to keep me out of harm's way. I'm only two years younger than Arrow!"

It was obvious that Oriel was rather sore about this particular subject. "I'm as good a fighter as any of them. But look at me, I'm whining to a stranger. Apologies."

Oriel raised an eyebrow at Fei, blinking slowly at the oddly dressed girl. Oddly dressed in his limited experience of this place, of course. "Is it .. normal to dress like that, here?" he asked quietly.

...owch.

Oriel flared up in his seat, glaring at Fei and tilting his head up to look down his nose at the girl. "You know, where I come from, brattish apprentices spoke with respect to the soldiers that risked their lives for good causes on a daily basis." he snapped angrily, "But I wouldn't expect you to understand that, you look like the type who has had her life handed to her on a silver platter. You take such pride in your appearance, but I doubt you have achieved anything to be truly proud of."

It was apparent that Fei had hit a nerve. Oriel was very self-conscious of his childlike and effeminate appearance.

Oriel harrumphed, settling back in his seat and taking a gulp of wine. "I will join you at a later date, Saren. I have business in the city."

The soldier rose and bowed stiffly to both Saren and Fei. "Farewell, to both of you. Another time, perhaps, we will get along better." he said, before sweeping out of the bar in what was most definitely not a huff.

The door of the bar swung open once again, as the small figure of a young blonde man joined the influx of arriving patrons. Crimson cloak trailing behind him, the pretty youth glanced around the bar once as he entered, automatically checking that his pistols were ready in their holsters, and his various blades all in order. This was far from a friendly establishment some days, after all.

The gun-slinging soldier crossed the bar to the counter, ordering a mug of ale and casting his eyes around the bar for anyone it looked like his quarry might have taken an interest in.

Where to begin, with Arrow? He was a very easily interested person.

Taking an idle sip of the drink he had ordered largely to excuse sitting around in the bar, rather than out of any real desire for alcohol, Oriel's eyes came to rest on the unusual arrival of Skald. The odd container upon the man's back stuck out in the room of general oddities ... both visually and in odour.

The young soldier decided to wait and observe this new arrival. He would at least let the man settle in before he went about interrogating him.

Oriel turned to face Skald as the man approached the counter near to him, offering a smile to the man. "Good day, sir." he said, politely inclining his head, "I can't help but wonder just what your container is for? Aside from the obvious, 'containing alcohol', I assume there is some purpose? Perhaps even beyond easy access to inebriation."

He smiled, "I take it you are a regular patron?"

"A what?" Oriel asked, "Oh, I've heard that, actually. You mean am I with the law? No. I'm not from around here." The soldier shook his head, before returning his thoughts to the previously attempted explanation.

"So ... let me try and get this straight - you have to drink alcohol to live, but also you set things on fire using it?" Oriel paused, "For any particular reason, or just ... yay fire?"
