Pearls

When asked for a surname, she calls herself "Pearls Swine." Middle name - Before.

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by feralfairy

Description

Pearls, most often going by Pearl, is 17, give or take a few months. She has extremely pale blond hair, falling to about her elbows, and round, hazel eyes with long lashes. Pearl can only speak two languages - one, a code amongst thieves, and the other Common. She comes from a medieval era, a few centuries ago in a forgotten town.

Pearl is not really much of a boy-crazy girl, but she does enjoy a good conversation. Pearls and jewels are what she loves most, above all else. She can never get enough. Trivial things, like favorite foods? Exotic, odd stuff - Asian food fascinates her. Favorite song? Gollum's Song. Boy type? Who knows. Of course, if you know your jewels and your motorcycles, you get a plus in her book. She intensely dislikes players and jerks - and girly-girls. Pure alcohol she mildly dislikes, but lava lamps she hates with a passion - an odd fear, but it had a starting point. Something along the lines of Bunsen Burners, sixth grade pyros, and a lava lamp.

Pearl once stole her dress from a noblewoman - but it seems not so. Since she is from a medieval time, she is well-used to fighting in a dress. Hers is a dark maroon colour, withj gold trimmings around the waist and collar. The dress is rather tight around her torso, but hangs loosely from her waist - it isn't poofy at all. It has pearls dotted about the waist, naturally, and she has a pearl headband in her hair - it is supposed to keep her hair back, but doesn't do a very good job. Pearl wears tall leather boots, almost to her knees, where she can store her purse and other... acquired items.

Personality

Pearl is nice enough at first meeting. Depending on who you are, though, you'll learn she's very different. To friends, she's sweet and caring to a point when it concerns her. That goes for her loyalty, too, but she'd never be the kind to run away from helping a fellow comrade. Enemies/victims? Well, let's just say she's a good liar. And to a mix of random strangers? Whatever takes her fancy. Coy, demure, rude, too nice- whatever takes her fancy.

Equipment

Pearl has on her exactly:

One pearl-hilted knife

Two long daggers with pearl decor

One vial of poppyseed.

One trick bracelet with false pearls - some are hollow, some have hidden blades, some have lockpicks, and some have various poisons and smokepowders.

One pouch with her money - including secret pockets against any other thief - hidden in her boots.

One fan with projectile blades in each separate portion.

And, of course, lots of pearl jewelry.

History

Pearls isn't her real name - of course it isn't. She comes from Tilfer, a small town of thieves long forgotten in the history book. No one from her town has a true name - they're all named after a habit or preference. Pearl, for example. All of the thieves give their children to the guild, where they grow up together. She knows everything needed to steal, pillage, and trick over and over - Tilfer is rumoured to have the best of the best.

The Guild has forbidden time-travel devices - but what's to be expected? They're all thieves.

So begins...

Pearls's Story

Pearls A woman in a maroon- and gold dress, decorated with pearls, entered the bar. She had gossamer hair, falling to her arms, and clear hazel eyes - but all of that paled in notice compared to the egg-sized pearl, a light pink colour, in her hands. Her other hand hung loosely at her side - she debated, internally, whether or not to tuck it into her boots for safety or not. She decided not to, and tucked it into the faux purse at her waist. The woman in pearls, aptly named Pearl, strode to the counter and sat, ordering a "Whiskey, please."

Pearls ' eyes, though not appearing to, flashed around the bar and scanned each and every face. Twice. Once was for seeing if she recognized them, and the other for committing them to memory. On a cautionary third glance - you could never be too sure of anything in this bar. And on that third look around, Pearls saw Laces - a man she had seen before, she knew it. Well, to act - anyway, she didn't see why not to.

Pearls rose from her chair, bringing along her drink, to the man. "Excuse me, but I feel like I recognize you from somewhere... else. Have we met before?"

Pearls brought her finger up to her lip, cocking her head and looking over him. "Mhm. No, I swear I've seen you before, heard someone talking, maybe heard you talking. Would you mind if I sat down?" Pearl waited for his reply politely - no use making enemies yet. Her tongue flicked the rook of her mouth, as if trying to scrape the answer she was looking for off the tip of her tongue. His clothes, his manner, somewhat reminded her of - "Tilfer?"

Pearls The corners of her mouth lifted slightly, and she sat. "The question is, how do you? I may have just as easily said pilfer, to the unhearing ear. But now that you bring it up - I've placed you. Slightly." Pearl nodded, adjusting her dress underneath her. The vixen's finger slid from her lip to her hair, where she selected a strand or so and began to run her finger along it. "So who are you, then, if I don't know you?"

Pearls laughed, a silky, smooth sound. "Ladies first it may be, but isn't it also a common practice for men to budge?" Despite how calm she acted, beneath the dark eyes her minds was spinning. Tilfer. Polite. Purple hair? Definite thief, by the way he kept on checking out her pearls. She still drew a blank - of course, if he were to introduce himself politely, she was sure it would snap into place.

Her smile vanished instantly, and both hands dropped to the table, where she folded them and regarded him with cold eyes. "Pearl." Yes, definitely one of them. But as for his name... maybe he was a Habit. Or his signature was something she couldn't see from sitting at a table - like Shoes or something. But she had never heard of a Shoes yet. "Pearls Before Swine."

Pearls tossed her head in mockery of Laces' statement. "Not planning to rob me, are you, Laces?" She knew who he was now - one of the rare few that were not raised as a child in the Guild. And quite a prodigy, too. Yes, Pearls' little birds had always told her about a Laces - but now she could put a face to the tales. "No, I'm just here to chill after a job. The future always has the best jewelry stores."

Pearls smirked again. "Any answer I give will probably meet the same reaction - and I know enough about you, as I know enough about everyone." Pearl ran a quick hand through her hair and rose, dark dress swishing about her ankles. Of course, Laces still had one of her hands - but she pulled away slowly. Mentally, she took inventory of all things accessible - and found, thankfully, he hadn't taken anything yet. "Love to stay and chat, Lacey, but I've got to deliver this pearl." She took out a small pearl from her faux pouch - not the large one she walked in with. "Super important. Bye now!"

Pearl left, feeling like a great success - she had money from the cashier, information on Laces, and a new place to hang out.

Pearls entered the bar, medieval dress adorned with her namesake swishing about her ankles. If she had been in a cocktail dress, or something tight-fitting outfit, most would identify her as a movie-like double of those women who play mafia lords' wives in smoke-filled rooms. But instead, with the old dress, she looked more like Cinderella in an average dress, or a streetrat fancily clothed and taught manners. Something about her was not normal.

But sit at the counter she did, gossamer hair about her shoulders, pearl headband threatening to slip backwards off her head. Politely as she could, she ordered a whiskey and surreptiously looked around at all the people.

Pearls "Before what? Before you came in this bar and caused quite the commotion?" Her voice stayed at the same smooth level, hazel eyes reading him and his vulgar shirt. She didn't flinch as the bottle cap flew past her - but nor did she catch it. It simply was there, and then on the floor.

"Coarse." She summed him up from the few words and actions he'd spoken the best she could in one word.

"Excite? I wouldn't say that's quite the word." She swung around, letting her back lean against the counter. Pearls casually crossed her legs and clasped her hands over her knee, still studying Rick. "Quite."

It would be polite, at this point, for an introduction, but as the man called even himself nasty she didn't think one would be forthcoming.

Pearls flashed her teeth in a mockery of a smile, just for a second. "Demure's practically my middle name, Nasty." She had decided she would call him that until she learned his true name - it was fitting.

"And if not in a bar, talking to someone rude, drinking, where else shall I be demure? The park? I think not." Pearl pretended not to notice his hands on his guns - and also not to hear his first comment. She wasn't hiding anything in relation to him, that was for sure. Of course she was hiding something, but of course.

Pearls finally let out a chuckle. "God, you're a rude bastard" she mimicked. "Well, what would you rather I be? A slut, draping myself over you? Perhaps one of the shy girls who pulls a hood over her head and goes to her emo corner? Or maybe a manly zombie girl." Pearl shook her head, smiling, though, and crossed her arms.

The bartender finally came with her drink, and she took it graciously, taking a long swig - but not enough to drain it yet. "So?"

Though she wanted to scowl at him and glare at him, she knew that it wouldn't do anything good. So she kept her knowing smile on. "Flattering." Sarcasm was great. "Such a silver tongue you have on you."

Of course not - she was right again by calling him 'coarse.' Loose, was she? Hardly. She loosened other people's pockets. Oh, and gems from their chains, but that was mostly irrelevant.

Pearls did not flinch at the clatter of breaking bottle, due to great efforts. She took a sip of her drink before replying. If she said something, would he go on or would he shut up? Pearl put back on her disinterested mask. "Fascinating, I'd bet. It's also a muscle, no?"

"And why would I want to do that? You're probably a smoker." She retorted. Pearl wasn't the least bit fazed by his stupid comment - after all, the stupider people think you are, the easier it is to kill, trick, or steal from them.

But she did uncross her arms and take another long draught of her drink. "It's hard not to feel high and mighty in this dress - comes from some snotty noblewoman I hated."

"Dare you." she called to him, uncrossing her legs and turning around - but she stopped, and turned around again. "But who should I be looking up? I never got a name."

So. Jerk, coarse, vulgar, rude, punkish, and a drinker. Go figure.

Pearls sneered rudely at the door that he had just left. Go figure, Nasty. Ah well. She had had her fun - mostly. It was time for another job, so she, too, exited, promising herself she would be back.
