Description

Hau

--------------------

Image

--------------------

As the grandson of Melemele Island's Kahuna and current Elite Four member, many would expect a strong and determined disposition from Hau. They are mistaken. As a relatively easy going and overall relaxing individual, Hau is a Pokemon Trainer because he enjoys the battle and the good times he has in them. But that doesn't stop him from going all out, especially against his good friend/active Champion. His biggest motivator? Malasadas, of course.

Pokemon

Image
Raichu - Level 66

Image Image

--------------------

Moveset

--------------------

Thunderbolt- Image / Image A strong electric blast crashes down on the target. This may also leave the target with paralysis.

Quick Attack- Image / Image The user lunges at the target at a speed that makes it almost invisible. This move always goes first.

Psychic- Image / Image The target is hit by a strong telekinetic force. This may also lower the target's Sp. Def stat.

Focus Blast- Image / Image The user heightens its mental focus and unleashes its power. This may also lower the target's Sp. Def stat.

--------------------
Abilities: Surge Surfer- Doubles the Pokémon's Speed stat on Electric Terrain.

Image
Flareon - Level 66

Image

--------------------

Moveset

--------------------

Flare Blitz- Image / Image The user cloaks itself in fire and charges the target. This also damages the user quite a lot. This attack may leave the target with a burn.

Quick Attack- Image / Image The user lunges at the target at a speed that makes it almost invisible. This move always goes first.

Charm- Image / Image The user gazes at the target rather charmingly, making it less wary. This harshly lowers its Attack stat.

Baby-Doll Eyes- Image / Image The user stares at the target with its baby-doll eyes, which lowers its Attack stat. This move always goes first.

--------------------
Abilities: Flash Fire- Activates when user is hit by a damaging Fire-type move (including Fire-type Hidden Power). Once activated, user’s Fire-type moves deal 1.5 times damage. While this ability is in effect, this Pokémon is immune to damage from Fire-type attacks and Fire-type Hidden Power (accuracy and effect from these moves are ignored). For Fire-type Pokémon with this ability, Will-O-Wisp activates this ability without having an effect. If a non-Fire-type Pokémon has this ability, Will-O-Wisp will activate the ability and will have an effect.

Guts- Attack is increased by 50% when induced with a status (BURN, PARALYZE, SLEEP, POISON, FREEZE). Burn’s effect of lowering Attack is not applied.

Image
Komala - Level 66

Image

--------------------

Moveset

--------------------

Wood Hammer- Image / Image The user slams its rugged body into the target to attack. This also damages the user quite a lot.

Sucker Punch- Image / Image This move enables the user to attack first. This move fails if the target is not readying an attack.

Earthquake- Image / Image The user sets off an earthquake that strikes every Pokémon around it.

Shadow Claw- Image / Image The user slashes with a sharp claw made from shadows. Critical hits land more easily.

--------------------
Abilities: Comatose- It acts as if it is affected by the Sleep status condition. All special effects of moves based on the Sleep status condition affect this Pokémon such as Snore & Sleep Talk working from the Pokémon with Comatose and double damage from Hex & Wake-up Slap, Dream Eater & Nightmare and even abilities such as Bad Dreams will activate. This Pokémon can still attack.

Crabominable - Level 66

"Wow, that's pretty interesting!" Hau said as he took a massive chomp out of his Malasada, "Like, way interesting! Team Skull kind of interesting, y'know?"

"I guess," Lukas stared at his food on his plate, his eyes very deep in thought, "I'm not sure I'd place these guys in the same realm as Team Skull though."

Hau looked up, his mouth full of food, "What do you mean?"

"These guys seem more official," Lukas recalled as he felt a nudge oh his arm. He looked down to see Tucker staring up at him expectantly. Smiling, Lukas tossed the Alolan Marowak his Malasada before continuing, "Less like a band of thugs and more like an organization. Like the Aether Foundation. They said they wanted to improve the lifestyle of the people that lived in Hau'oli City."

Hau shrugged, "Sounds like they're all good. Why do you say that like they're committing a crime?"

"I don't know. I'm just cautious, I guess," Lukas replied, "We both thought the Aether Foundation were good."

"Not all of them were bad though," Hau was quick to point out, "Just Lusamine."

"Yeah, you're right," he nodded in agreement, "But what if this is the same kind of thing? Maybe their intentions aren't as helpful as they appear to be."

"Well, I don't know," Hau leaned back in his chair similar to how Lukas pictured Kahuna Hala would do it, "I haven't met any of them yet to make my own opinion. But what I do know is that I'm stuffed!" He left a resting hand on his Komala, who was sprawled out on the floor, clearly stuffed with food.

Lukas laughed, "You keep feeding your Pokemon like that, they're going to get sluggish. You can't become champion if I out speed you every time!"

Hau raised a brow in amusement, "Tell that to Tucker."

Lukas turned and found his own Pokemon lying on the ground in their own food comas. He laughed at his own fallacy before getting up from the table.

"Alright, well maybe I'll stop by a couple of the other islands before I head to the Battle Tree. See if I can find me a couple more of those Z-Force dudes. I'll talk to ya later."

"Alola!" Hau called back at Lukas left the store, on his way to the ferry. He realized he could just take Charizard to Akala Island, but he wanted to see the ocean before he did.

The chef narrowed his eyes at the young teenager, " Excuse you? You think you have the expertise in fine dining to criticize my work? You don't even have the knowledge to comprehend where we are!" To further explain what he meant, he gestured towards the cobble streets and massive archway that was the pinnacle of Malie City.

"You do realize that this is a city based off the Johto Region, right? I have Corphish and Krabby back-stocked because of how much I order. They're regular favorites in my restaurant, which is worth more than the cap on your head! What would you know about cuisine?!" At this point, his face was red with anger just by seemingly staring at this sixteen year old. He was still holding the butcher's knife, though he didn't make any kind of gesture towards the teen. Finally, he waved him off exasperatedly with his left hand.

"Delinquent! Go back to your...wherever you came from!" he turned around and bolted inside, the steam spewing from his ears as he did so. From behind them, Radegast and Jakob would hear a slight chuckle.

"Well, if you're trying to put Team Skull in better favors with the Alola Region, that's not the way to do it," a boy walked up with the biggest grin on his face. Accompanying his greenish hair tied back into a short ponytail was his gray eyes that seemed to soothe the soul. His black shirt and baggy, yellow shorts fit the complexion of carefree and his orange backpack seemed to weigh light as a feather. He had his hands behind his head and his knees were bent outward in a casual manner. His iconic smile flashed in front of them as his grin grew wider.

"Angering the Head Chef in the High-Roller Sushi...man! He's a classy dude, too!" he went on, looking past the Dartrix and the teenager to peer into the restaurant, "I wouldn't want him on my bad list."

Radegast replied. All he knew about cooking, he learned in the wild. Wouldn’t want him on my bad list indeed…

Admittedly, he imagined he came across as condescending, but that could’ve been handled better. Plus, Feebas… Feebas… Anyone with half a brain could’ve known.

“Who said I was part of Team Skull?” Radegast asked with a returning grin, “‘Cause they’re wrong.”

The Dartrix’s eyes narrowed slightly as he regarded the boy. “That’s a strong trainer there, Sir Dreads.”

We’ll be fine so long as we don’t get in a dumb fight, Radegast seemed to reply with an easy smile to Jakob. “I haven’t been part of them for nearly two years.” The sixteen-year-old jerked a thumb towards the restaurant “Anyway, good food always comes to those who love to cook, so I’m not worried about getting banned from that place.” Radegast chuckled. “Name’s Dreads.”

"Name's Hau," the boy replied, "And no one said anything about you being a part of Team Skull."

He gave Radegast an encouraging smile as he continued, "You two probably didn't notice me in the Malasada Shop, but I saw you and that other Team Skull dude. And I saw how you handled that jerk who walked up and started talking bad about you guys. I believe you if you say you're not a part of Team Skull, cause most grunts would take that battle in a heartbeat!" He looked out to the horizon, watching the sun began it's descent into the late afternoon period.

"But I can't say you don't root for them, y'know? Or at least, I can say you like them to some degree. Especially when you say you were a member for a couple years." He closed one eye as he gazed, scratching his head in thought.

"Now I'm a local. I know just about every local on this island. But I don't think I've met you before..." he turned to stare at Radegast, "...no, definitely not. But you say you were a part of Team Skull, right? So, what's your story, if ya don't mind me asking?"

“Well, not much to tell,” Radegast shrugged, “I lived in Akala for a bit, joined Skull for about a year, and I got kicked out around the time they started doing nasty stuff. Only Langle- I mean OG Lee still likes me somewhat.” Radegast glanced back at the restaurant. That chef reminds me… I’m oddly talented at making enemies…

“Then I made my way to the other regions, hanged out there for a while, but now I’m back where I belong.” And speaking of belong, I also have an odd talent of making my presence known to people. So much for laying low

Jakob seemed to be aware of Radegast’s increasing presence. “We should get back home,” The Dartrix spoke in a low voice in his absurdly posh accent. “The Lord-Rege- I mean Good Sir Dreads is late as it is.”

Radegast’s eye twitch as he registered the nickname. It was the first time he had actually heard it for what it was. Wait… so Elder was calling me Lord-Regent all this time? Shit, that’s hilarious! A smile crawled across his face as he lost himself in thought. The sixteen-year-old then shook his head. “Otherwise, nothing much to tell. Just a kid on a different brand of Pokemon Trial.”

"Oh wow, you got to explore the whole world?" Hau's eyes lit up, "That's incredible! I've always wanted to go to visit the other regions at some point. Never had the chance to...not yet, anyway! I've got my hopes up, though!"

It was clear that Hau was a rather friendly dude and not capable of picking up on the social cues the Dartrix was giving off, so he continued the conversation, "Which region would you recommend I check out first?"

Despite Jakob’s warnings, the friendly chat was somewhat unexpected, but certainly not unwelcome. Radegast only just became aware of the tension he had been feeling ever since the whole Psychic Rebellion situation back in Unova. Being able to loosen up and talk to someone like a human being- while not terribly familiar to the wild boy, was a breath of fresh air.

“Well, it really depends on what sort of stuff you wanna see,” Radegast replied as he shoved his scarred hands into his pockets, “Kanto tends to be a popular spot with a variety of attractions like the Safari Zone.” He had been to the Safari Zone plenty of times as a kid, “The Pokemon Tower’s pretty cool too, but Saffron’s one of the biggest cities there is.

“The most popular place if you want to visit a region a lot more traditional-looking, Johto’s the one you’ll want to go to. They’ve got ruins, temples, tower shrines to ancient Pokemon, Basically think this town, except an entire region.

“Hoenn is a place I’ve spent a lot of time in. The beaches there are incredible, and a lot larger than the ones here. I’m talkin’ white sand with pearls scattered about. Great way to earn some cash. Hoenn also has a volcano.” And chances are you’ll accidentally sabotage a gang operation.

“There’s also Sinnoh, Kalos, and Unova. I haven’t been to any of them, though,” Radegast shrugged, “It’d be nice to live in Alola for a bit before I move on, though.”

With a prod from Jakob, Radegast invited Hau to follow along towards the docks. “You a local? I don’t think I’ve ever seen you before last time I was here.”

Hau's eyes flared up in confusion, but his smile remained intact, "Huh? I'm about as local as it gets around here! Born and raised in Iki Town!" He laughed as he continued, "I guess it would make sense that you haven't seen me before, since you live on Ula'ula and all. From the sound of it, I hadn't even explored the other islands when you were around. Now it feels like I walk everywhere!"

The two boys walked along the cobbled pavement and into the docks. In the distance, they could see the ferry making it's way to their location. The sky wasn't orange yet, but the position of the sun hinted that it would be coming soon. Sunsets were some of the most glorious in Alola and a few of the tourists were already sitting down in lawn chairs, waiting to witness it.

"So what was your personal favorite?" Hau asked as they waited for the ferry, "You seemed to like Hoenn."

“Ehh, I don’t play favourites,” Radegast smirked, “And I live on Akala, in fact.” Not specifically where, though. That was a secret, meant for wildling ears- that one photographer notwithstanding. It may have been a less than ideal disclosure of information, but it would help stem suspicion before it starts when this Hau would notice that Dreads rarely shows up on Ula’ula in the future.

“That’s convenient,” Radegast noted as he pointed towards the ferry. “Last time I waited on a ferry, I had to chill at the station for four hours.”

"Yeah, we got lucky," Hau agreed, "It's easier when you've got a Ride Pager." He pulled the small, green device out of his pocket to show Dreads. "Convenient, portable, and you can call upon a friend in a hurry if you need it. It was a great help during my island challenge."

"I'm not a hundred percent sure where you can get one, but I think Lukas has an extra on him if you'd like to get one. Or maybe the Kahunas have some! I know my Gramps has a ton of them that he gives to the ones starting their Island Challenge!" he added as he put the Ride Pager away.

Kahuna… Gramps? Radegast couldn’t believe the chances. First the Alolan Champion, then the son of a Kahuna? It was as if the sixteen-year-old attracted powerful people on a whim.

Still, there was an offer, an offer the wildling boy couldn’t accept. “Don’t feel right using a Pokemon as transport,” he replied, “Never did.”

“What about Absolute?” Jakob asked, recalling the stories the boy had told around the table over cooked Salandit.

“That was her insistence. With a ride pager, it’s giving an order,” Radegast stubbornly replied, “Besides, I like boats.” Even though I barely survived a sinking one before…

The ferry had arrived and began off-loading passengers and cargo. Soon enough, it would be time to board, which is exactly what Radegast and Jakob did.

Hau raised a brow at Dreads's rationale. "I mean, I guess that's cool if you'd rather take a boat than call a Pokemon to your side," he said, his eyes distant as if he was deep in thought, "But it's not an order when we call Pokemon for a ride. It never has been. Not many trainers will actually force their partners to do something they don't wanna do. It's the same thing here. We don't order a Pokemon to do something they have to do. They do it because they want to. That's Pokemon 101, yo!"

Hau's glimmering teeth shone in the sunset as he glanced down towards the ferry pulling into the dock, "But...I guess I'll let you head on back to your folks! I've got a dinner plate with my name on it in Iki Town that I CAN'T be late for!" Pulling out the Ride Pager and pressing a button, he only had to wait a moment before he heard the call of a Charizard echoing through the sky. "Oooo, looks like I'll be riding good ol' Beta again! He's a fun one!" he turned to Dreads, "Nice chattin' with ya! I hope I'll see ya around sometime. Maybe we can have a friendly duel or something!"

The Charizard named Beta came swooping down from the direction of Melemele Island and Hau, without stopping or missing a beat, grabbed the safety bar and pulled himself into the saddle. The Charizard didn't even feel the strain, actually corkscrewing an extra time for show before flapping his wings and lifting himself off the ground. Hau was now riding the Charizard, waving at Radegast as he took off towards his home island.

"Catcha later!" Hau called from the distance before proceeding towards Melemele Island, the sun at his back.

Then he doesn’t really know the years of training Ride Pokemon go through. They were wild once upon a time… But I can agree to disagree. Radegast thought as Hau called down the Charizard. “That’s exactly what that Lukas said,” Radegast replied, “Me, I see it as training a human to wear a saddle.”

On mention of a friendly duel, Radegast shrugged, “If my buddies are cool with it. Peace out, dude.”

The ferry arrived, and Radegast boarded. With some space on the deck, Radegast brought out the knocked-out Elder and proceeded to apply some pressure in select areas with his fingers.

“Hate Dark-types…” Elder coughed as he spoke groggily.

Radegast smirked, happy to see his friend back on his feet.

It was easy to distinguish a tourist from a local, but Logan and Margriet were even further separated from the tourist status, even in the largest city in Alola. Part of the reason was the odd clothing choice. Hoodies and jackets were virtually unheard of in the tropical paradise. But the real reason was due to the way they presented themselves to the public...as people of importance. Six PokeBalls on Margriet's belt remained exposed and gave people the impression of a powerful trainer, as she was probably accustomed to feeling right now. But if the two were going for the incognito approach, they weren't succeeding.

And that was the reason, from far away, in the bushes and completely out of sight, stood a Pokemon. Not a Pokemon typically seen in this portion of the Region. Should he have stepped out into the open, he would've caught some looks this way. But he was hidden from sight and he was safe. Even better, he had a good vantage point over who he was spying on.

"They have arrived," the Krookodile spoke quietly into the Distance Communicator, "I do not see the particular PokeBall the beast is contained in, but I do see it's owner."

The voice crackled from the other end, "Good. I figured it was only a matter of time before they reached one of the big cities. How's the troop in Alola?"

"Small...very small," the Krookodile grunted, "But doable. I may need a little more time to recruit a few more allies to our cause before I attempt an attack, but that is fine. They're too exposed anyway."

"How many on their side?"

"Looks like nine Pokemon, maybe ten. Very strong Pokemon at that. Especially if the Legendary is in their arsenal."

"Well that is why I have a strong Commander, is it not?"

The Krookodile ignored the comment as he was trained to do and continued, "I will try to go in quietly before I go in loud. I will not fail you, sir."

"I know you won't, Commander Gnash."

The Krookodile let the Distance Communicator hang off his belt and watched from afar and completely out of sight as Logan and Margriet progressed through Hau'oli City.

Meanwhile, from above, the two could hear a whooping noise.

"Hahaaaaa!" they would hear a holler from above, "Hey everybody!"

His voice rang clear and strong, despite the rushing wind and unstable saddle he was riding on. If Logan and Margriet turned to the sky, they would see a form waving to the people below on the back of a Charizard. He was facing the setting sun, so it was kind of hard to distinguish features. But the small ponytail flopping in the wind and the orange board shorts were the most telling features. From below, many of the tourists laughed and waved while a few of the locals smiled in like-minded amusement as the kid flew over the city and started to hover over a place northeast from their current spot.

"That kid," an older man was saying, shaking his head, "He's gonna be the death of us someday."

"Oh hush," an elderly woman patted his shoulder, "Let him have his fun for now. He's only twelve."

"So is the Champion," the man shot back, "Who has been putting his responsibilities ahead of his playtime."

"But Hau is not the Champion," the woman explained simply, "Hau doesn't have to worry about that yet."

"Still, we don't know when his grandfather might retire or give up being the Island Kahuna. He may have to step into that responsibility at some point. He has to be ready for that."

"And what exactly are you going to do about it other than gripe?" the woman smiled with a brow raised at the man.

"I was just saying..." the man grumbled.

Margriet and Logan exchanged glances as they heard the locals discuss the boy who had just flown in. They mentioned the kid’s grandfather being the island Kahuna. “What luck,” Logan noted.

“Indeed,” Margriet nodded as she smiled. She had entered her name in the Kanto Hall of Fame on her 11th birthday, one year after she had left on her League challenge. It wasn’t until later when she heard that Radegast- the Reginald heir- ran away.

That felt so long ago, but the talk about legible heirs still bothered her. She had heard that the Kahunas were chosen by the Tapu, and it didn’t matter their gender. As far as she was concerned, Alola displayed greater fairness when it came to traditional values. In Alola, the Pokemon made the calls. In the Family, the Patriarch made the calls. Seeing the excitement and peace in this city seemed to tell Margriet that there was a reason Radegast decided to come here, beyond “avoiding the Psychic Rebellion”. Then she recalled Radegast’s tanned skin and all of a sudden, it all clicked for her. Her brother got his tan from an extended time in Alola. He must really like this place.

Returning her thoughts to business, Margriet recalled pictures of three of the Kahunas she had seen online. The fourth one was apparently recent, and had yet to get a picture registered. Out of the ones she had seen, Olivia in particular seemed like Margriet’s kind of gal. Olivia and Akala would have to wait, however. Margriet began to jog down the road along the path towards Hau’s position. The two of them eventually passed a school, a house with a Kanto Meowth on the porch, and many fenced roads leading higher up the mountain.

Eventually, they arrived at Iki Town, where they were greeted by some locals. “Alola!” They exchanged the double-wave gesture traditional to Alola- which Margriet and Logan mirrored upon first viewing. “Welcome to Iki Town!”

“I’m looking to speak with the Kahuna. Is he around?” Margriet asked.

The locals exchanged glances, obviously very curious as to why these tourists would want to see the island Kahuna immediately upon arrival. One of them, a younger man in his late 20s, stepped forward first.

"I think he's having dinner with his family at the moment," he said, "Anything I can help you two with?

“Ah, if they’re having dinner, then we can wait,” Margriet replied. “Thank you very much, but we’re on an errand to talk to the Kahunas of the islands.”

Logan noted a nearby bench and whispered that knowledge into Margriet’s ear. “Thank you Logan,” She replied. The two of them decided to wait on said bench, which overlooked the central platform, and gave them a comfortable view of the mountain high above.

The man nodded in understanding, "I'll let them know where to find you when they're done." He went off to go find the Kahuna's house as Logan and Margriet found their bench and watched the environment.

If there was a place to view a beautiful sky, Iki Town was up there with the best of them. The sun had set a little bit ago and the sky was now many different shades of red, purple, and indigo shades that was reminiscent of twilight. The treetops were dark and stood out against the vibrancy of the sky like little pyres of spikes cutting across the horizon. The mountain was so dark, it blended with the darker portions of the evening hue, but a carefully trained eye could make out the landmass where the Ruins of Conflict were located. The air was surprisingly crisp for being on an island in the middle of the ocean, yet carried a hint of salt from the ocean.

"Piki?" a small Pikipek had landed on the armrest of the bench and was staring up at Margriet expectantly. It appeared to want food.

Margriet gave an apologetic look to the begging bird. Logan, on the other hand, reached into his satchel and produced a small bag of Kanto rice.

“Aren’t you prepared? Isn’t that for your Pidgeot?” Margriet asked.

“Peregrine doesn’t mind sharing,” Logan smirked as he filled his palm with several rice seeds and held it up towards the Pikipek. “Much,” He added in jest, “Still, luck favours the prepared.”

Luck favours my brother, Margriet thought. She never quite understood just what Radegast or Tarma saw in Pokemon to warrant nicknames. Their parents get along fine without nicknames for their Pokemon, and they’re high champion-tier trainers.

“Maybe next time I go shopping, I’ll follow that example,” Margriet spoke suddenly.

This surprised Logan, “If you will it, I won’t question it.”

Margriet huffed in amusement, “Careful there, Logan. You might land yourself another mouth to feed.”

“Boss pays well, I’m sure I could handle it,” Logan smirked as he watched for the Pikipek’s response to the offered seed.

The Pikipek fluttered over towards the outstretched palm of food belonging to Logan, perching itself onto his pointing finger as it pecked a grain of rice and swallowed. It's eyes seemed to widen for a moment before it closed it's eyes happily and chirped. It seemed to really enjoy the Kanto rice.

A woman had gone around, lighting the tiki torches as she went so as to provide light to Iki Town when the sky darkened, though the huge bonfire residing in the center square did a pretty good job of that already. She had passed by the bench once, giving a single glance in their direction before continuing her business. The moon was just beginning to rise, a waxing crescent lightly illuminating the ocean water.

The Pikipek had found it's way to Logan's shoulder after it had been fed and was nestled there cozily. It seemed to hum as it's eyes drooped slightly, like it was so comfortable it might fall asleep at any moment. It would make for a weird parallel to that of Suros and her shoulder perch, Radegast.

A few minutes later, they would hear a booming laugh behind them, "Ho, ho! I see you are enjoying the wildlife!" Their heads would turn to reveal a short, burly man with white hair blossoming around his face. His eyes always seemed slanted and his bushy eyebrows gave him an intense look like that of a fighter. He wore a white knot around his waist, akin to that of a sumo wrestler. However, he elected to wear other clothes like a yellow Hawaiian shirt over a plain blue tee and white Capris. He was accentuated with borderline flowery flip-flops and a closed fan tucked into his belt.

"I hear from Jericho that you guys wanted to speak to me?" he continued as he extended a rough-skinned hand towards the two, "I'm Hala, the Kahuna of this island!" He spoke with the right amount of light-hearted gruffness to smash the intensity of his aura and reveal a teddy bear of a man underneath. Intimidating, yet jolly. Tough, yet tender. Kahuna Hala was a lot of things, but a compassionate man was definitely one of them.
