Anthro male red fox, about 20 years old, acrobatic, tall, athletic, and smart. A little skittish.
So begins...
Ramuki's Story
They arrived at the Lost and Found counter, where there was a short line. Atani rolled her eyes and hefted her bag. They had passed tons of kiosks selling all sorts of things, useful and not. Surely one of them had a translation device.
"Stay," She held out her palms, "Here," Atani pointed to the ground and shlepped her bag down. She then gestured grandly toward the line, kicking her bag forth as they all shuffled one forward. Atani held up one finger, indicating she'd be but a minute, and backed away towards a kiosk over there. Everything was in so many languages, perhaps something was in his? Never mind that- she had seen a sign for babel!fish.

Ramuki does not understand this language one bit...but his instincts root him to the spot for now. The sign language did manage to get him to stay put...at least for a minute. Curiosity got the best of him though and he did at least keep a sharp eye on her from his perch on the floor. Another rumbly growl from his empty stomach.
It didn't take long for Atani to locate the right kiosk. Pricey, of course, but this was the Cosmodrome. It was to be expected. She muttered about the tourist trap nature of it all. The device was charged to a silver card embossed with her husband's name. The cashier bowed his head gently when he realized who Atani was. She shrugged, smiled, and drew her hand around her belly. The cashier fussed over her pregnancy as she thanked him and pulled away. He offered her a snack in parting which of course Atani graciously accepted- a box of AberO's.
Atani sauntered back over to Ramuki with a smile on her face, a box of cereal under her arm, and a small box gripped in the other hand. She presented the box to Ramuki.

Ramuki sniffs inquisitively at the box. He's very unfamiliar with the concept of cardboard it seems.
Ramuki sniffs now also at the box of cereal...his mind swimming with curiosity! He can't read the box at all, but he heard something rattle slightly inside.
Atani Berentes giggled as she realized the fox had absolutely no idea what to do with either box. She reached and opened the AberO's first, as it was food, wrestling expertly through the plastic wrapper- a pregnancy favorite. These were the regular kind. They were puffy circles of grain covered in sugar, colored red.
Ramuki sniffs at it again, surprised at what turned out to be inside...the plastic creeps him out though, such a substance doesn't even exist where he comes from.
Atani Berentes goes ahead and opens the other box with the babel!fish. Now that Ramuki had it, all he had to do was stick it in his ear, and they should be able to communicate just fine.
"I can't read your mind, but if you use this, we can talk, yeah?"

Ramuki shies away from the gesture, not at all comfortable with having this stranger messing with his ears. He dodges politely, whining curiously. Perhaps she'd need to demonstrate that the device belongs there.
Atani Berentes pointed to the device in her own ear, and then held up the babel!fish to indicate they were the same. She handed Ramuki the babel!fish.
