Rei Harkov

I've got a bad feeling about this...but a job's a job.

Description

Image

Full Legal Name: Reina Isolde Kurosawa Harkov
Aliases: Rei Harkov, Kurage
Occupation: Whatever pays the bills the best at the moment
Age: unknown
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 135 lbs
Eye Color: Blue/Green; unnatural, pale, chatoyant
Hair Color: Blue and Black
Build: Athletic
Race: Human (assumed)
Sex: Female

Preferring to dress in cargo pants, boots, t-shirts and a flight jacket. Function over form is what is most important to her.
Despite these ideals of dress, Rei wears fairly heavy makeup, which conceals a great deal and in some way alters her facial features. It is hard to determine just what the woman beneath the makeup actually looks like, and she goes to a great deal of trouble to keep it that way.

Piercings/Tatoos/markings
Scars - Faint scaring across knuckles from childhood; scar on right lower leg from incident while in military service
Tattoos - Left shoulder (sakura blossom in red ink w/ three graces in black ink surrounding it); left wrist (tribal, blue ink), coms bracelet covers it
Piercings - Right ear: Standard lobe, orbital, helix, and upper lobe
Left ear: Industrial, snug and orbital
Eye brow piercing over right eye.

Personality
Rei is mostly calm, cool and fairly collected. She can though lean towards the disturbed and unstable side of things. She knows who exactly her friends and enemies are; preferring to keep the latter closer in a multitude of perverse and demented ways. She is not afraid to double cross, back stab or do any manner of nasty things to close a deal, or prevent it from going sour. Her talents in negotiation were learned the hard way; out in the field.

Equipment
Isher Mk 3-5 Plasma Pistol
VanVogt Force Blade tucked into the right boot
Coms bracelet, manufacture unknown
Earpiece designed to feed direct images from mini-cameras jettisoned outside a ship and allows the user to communicate directly with a ship's AI without the use of a neural web.

The Ship
Rei's ship, Ghost Dance, is an usual specimen in of the fact that few of these ships, called lighthuggers, have been seen since the Great War of Magellan.

Sitting at 4 km long, the ship is capable of carrying vast amounts of cargo in it's holds and can allow for even greater numbers of passengers if need be. With it's Lockheed-Krunchev engines for propulsion, the ship is capable of extremely powerful bursts of acceleration (at least 10g without any inertial suppression systems) and at cruising between systems pulls 1g on average.
Thought to possess limited repair and redesign capability, these ships are generally coated with a thick layer of ice to use in defense against other ships and minor impacts from objects. However, despite this most of these ships are capable of moving machinery and rooms around within their hulls should their owner desire it, and possess a on-board manufacturing plant for repairs etc.

Weapons
Ghost Dance has relatively small point defense weapons, but they still pack quite a punch.
These weapons are able to blast a 200 km crater into a planet, disrupt weather, and potentially initiate geological events.

The A.I.
Specter is an alpha-level simulation and responsible for assisting Rei with running most of such a large ship. There is a large amount of controversy surrounding the Alpha-Levels, as they were once humans whose minds were scanned and then digitized; these individuals did not survive the process. They are fully self aware, and fully capable of remembering, learning and adapting.

Other Technology
Manufacturies for creating anything from weapons to furnishing rooms on ship.
Inertial Suppression
Cryo-Arithmetic Engines/Dark Drives - allows a ships engines and heat to decay through quantum mechanics and use of a miniature event horizon to make them indistinguishable from background space and temperatures and radiation
Camouflage Screens - stealth technology that further conceals the lighthugger from detection
Hyper Diamond hull - an material of extreme durability made of nanofiber tubules interwoven

History
Rei's largely divorced from baseline humanity, her background is a little murky if at all clear. She's thought to be the daughter of a Taiyou citizen, and a Russish generational ship passenger from a vessel that was originally launched from the Sol system; but she's neither confirmed nor denied these facts. What is known is that she speaks decent enough Taiyou that the local Yakuza have a desire to deal with her when anything out world or in system calls. Her dealings are thought to be fairly small time and innocent enough, an she has little desire to run into trouble with the local law; but has had a few close calls. Possessing excellent piloting, martial arts, and marksmanship skills, she appears to have even perhaps come from a military background. All this once again goes back to the fact that her past is murky, and not even the closest of her friends know the true story of who Rei Harkov is. As a well kept enigma, she is perfectly content to let people wonder.

So begins...

Rei Harkov eyed Arith for a moment cautiously, before responding. This could turn strange quickly, and she wasn't sure that she had the skills to cope with such turn of events. "Err.. Rei Harkov..." She said scooting back towards the bar. How often was it that one saw a humanoid snake type monster? Not very, even on other planes of existence she'd never heard of such a thing, but that wasn't to say they didn't exist.
How many drinks had this guy had? Hardly anyone ever tried to hit on her, perhaps there was something of a intimidation factor involved. But this guy did take the cake, with his extremely proper language and flourishes tacked on, something that to her knowledge hadn't been used since the 17th century on Earth, and in other countries.

Rei Harkov this creature or rather man puzzled her, rarely was it that she received compliments, but she didn't go searching for them either. Shaking her head she banished these thoughts, and resolved to try to be polite; instead of trading insults and jabs. "Go ahead." She answered setting her glass down onto the bar. Did he want something or did he have something worth her while? She wondered exactly what had brought this.

Rei Harkov frowned at Arith's comment before answering, "Hurt? That might be a bit difficult.. but that's not the point of this conversation." She said slowly. If push came to shove, she could defend herself. Thinking for a moment, she did have to wonder how she had fallen in with the group she had earlier. "To tell the truth I have no idea." Rei remarked. "We just seemed to fall together, I think the drunk caused most of it."

"Yes cliche... and I've been looking for a backer for a business venture. So far no one is biting. Only reason I'm here is the venture is less than savory, and I assumed this place might be as good as any to drum up business." Rei remarked finishing her drink and setting the glass down to be picked up. "Really, I don't care either way, the guy wasn't worth much if any time. Besides he was too dense to see a insult when he saw it." Frankly she found this man's obsession with her a bit disconcerting. "Now my turn to play twenty questions, why are you interested in me of all people?" She'd be blunt and direct about it, the only one who got this much attention was her sister.

"Well I suppose that you have a point. Gawking tends to lead to uncomfortable things for both parties, more so the one being gawked at." Rei remarked still a bit puzzled by all the compliments being heaped upon her. If this poor guy only knew how complicated things really were. "Also it's a practiced art, but no fun if the person has no clue." She said glancing at the liquid in his glass. Indigo, maybe there had been food dye added to it, but it was unusual for alcohol to see such a color.

Rei Harkov raised a eyebrow at his comments. "I would suggest you keep your eyes to yourself. You make me exceedingly uncomfortable simply because of how you are attempting to romance me, and sweep me off my feet. I'll tell you point blank, it's not a good idea." She stated crossing her arms over her chest. She was dressed in a flight jacket and pants that probably had various fluids and oils over them from working on her ship. "Keep it up Romeo and I might have myself a snake skin jacket, I don't mind talking but romance is out."

Rei Harkov scowled, this was growing tiresome. "Perhaps I could sell your skin on the black market, I hear there's a market for natural instead of artificial hide." She commented glancing towards his hand on the counter top. Fire, simple enough. But, she could do much more if pressed. Lucky for this annoying Naga, she had no desire to break cover and reveal herself for what she really was; at least not yet. "I have a death warrant from the Taiyou, if that gives you any sort of clue as to what I do to people who give me any reason..."

Rei Harkov smirked slightly, how long had it taken to reach this point in the night? Obviously not long enough. There were no Aschen, Taiyou or anyone else in here that she would need to worry about. All Arith knew her as was Rei Harkov. If he could make a show of power, so could she. So Rei made the smallest of gestures, sending a powerful gust of wind towards the flame and Arith. "Oh perhaps, but did I ever say I was human?" She replied.

Rei Harkov shrugged slightly and allowed her expression to return to normal and fairly neutral. "I believe you mean hostility, and yes I would warn against it." She stated bluntly. Many people had made this mistake, and were either lost in space somewhere, dead, flushed out a airlock or any other manner of nasty things Rei could think to do to get rid of someone who was getting too close, too quick.

Rei Harkov once Arith had left she picked up the glass flower in wonderment. "What the hell did I get myself into?" She muttered to herself. Had she just inadvertently acquired a admirer? "The death sentence in twelve systems is almost worth not dealing with that again!" She commented to herself wondering how these things stacked up so fast against a person. Sitting and contemplating the glass lily, she would save it as a token perhaps, or find something else to do with it. "Still doesn't give me a job, or a way to pay bills." Rei thought aloud as she set the glass flower back down.

The evenings search through the bar hadn't been successful, if you wanted to call it that. All she'd managed to do was get slightly buzzed on vodka and whiskey. "Nothing interesting ever happens in this god forsaken place.." She mumbled as she walked down the alley, a shortcut to the next street she assumed. With the last three months being spent just looking for some sort of business and no luck, things were looking fairly bleak. "At least those damned idiots don't know where I went.." She mumbled again. Sleepy and ready to reach her small apartment, she would try again another day, or another week maybe.
Rei thought back on the small adventures she'd had in the bar so far, none of them useful in getting her ship repaired, and getting off the planet. Though it might be a bit difficult to get through customs with a forged passport.

Rei Harkov blinked slightly, "Shit I must be drunk.." Rubbing her face for a moment, and taking a deep breath, she could and would continue this act as long as possible. Of course she was aware of the atmosphere, and it made her a tiny bit nervous. "Hell if I know buddy... I don't pay attention." Rei remarked glancing to the gun and sword. For now she would see where this led, a fight wasn't exactly what she wanted.

Rei Harkov frowned, it wasn't often that she encountered such a eager bounty hunter. Wincing at the level of noise from the sword cutting through the air, she shook her head and sighed. Why was she repeatedly forced to get herself out of situations by use of things other than weapons? Rei couldn't figure it out that was certain. Sighing slightly, she shook her head and replied, "You don't have a list."

Rei Harkov breathed a slight sigh of relief, seemed that she wouldn't have to fight her way out of this one. Although, she suspected that her mentor from the "Others" would be more than happy to see her use what abilities she had access to immediately. "Probably so... god knows what the price is." She commented keeping her distance for now. He seemed dangerous, and she didn't want to be either picking up the pieces or dead.

Rei Harkov shook her head slightly as she debated wether or not to shake the man's hand. "The bounty more than likely isn't going to pass. Perhaps the one in the Taiyou system, but the others I can't get so lucky. There isn't a statute of limitations." She remarked as she carefully took his hand. If she didn't pay attention, Rei could seriously injure the hand. Having been raised with her time split between nominal and heavy gravity worlds, her body had found ways to endure. Stronger than was considered normal and with a much denser bone structure, Rei's body had adapted. But, that wasn't to say she was short and squat, in fact she was rather on the tall side, and with a thin, lean build.

Rei Harkov continued to frown, who was this guy? "Excuse me? My genetic makeup really isn't a priority right now.." She grumbled. Rei hated a lot of things, and could whole heartedly agree that the strength and density was useful, but it had it's problems. "Ah well.. there are a number of places to stay. Take your pick, high class or low class." She remarked quickly taking her hand back and shoving it into her pocket. This guy didn't miss a beat, and hopefully would miss the beat as to her actual identity thanks to some genetic tweaking she'd had done the last time she was off world.

"Err what?" Rei was between a rock and a hard place. As long as she cooperated she'd not be trying to fight her way out of a situation, if she didn't things could and most likely would get messy. "I have a place just the other side of town... not the greatest neighborhood but it's cheap." She mentioned wondering how best to get herself out of such a, uncomfortable situation. 'If anything.. this guy is some fuckin' weirdo lookin' for trouble...' She'd not counted on such difficult situations when she'd made her plan to abandon normal life.

Rei Harkov said little as she walked. In reality she was trying to figure out just what the docking fees might be for her own ship, not to mention what sort of flags might be out on it's identification number. When Rain met her gaze, she didn't immediately return it; in fact she seemed distant and unaware of her surroundings. In reality you could say that she was elsewhere, doing other things, thinking of other things. "What? Oh.. a ship.." She muttered quickly returning to the present. "It's docked, needs engine repairs. It's no big deal."

Rei Harkov glanced at Rain for a moment before responding. "Nuclear drives in system, quantum drive out system." She commented slowly thinking just what it would take to fix the drives. There was something wrong with them, what she'd not quite figured out yet. "I'm more than capable of fixing my own ship, it's a matter of the time for a complete tear down to find the problem." Rei added. That was one thing she'd kept about herself when changing identities persay, the fact that she was a excellent starship mechanic. How many years had the AHSC spent sending her to trouble shoot and repair their own mistakes or was that just a distant, warped fragment of something else? These days she couldn't tell.

Rei Harkov glared at Rain before speaking, "Why should I hire someone I don't know to work on my ship?" She sneered. She had to get out of this situation, even if it ment teaming up with this guy. How that would work she wasn't certain. Kicking at a stray can, she stared up at the lightening sky, it had been a long night and now she was tied to this guy somehow. Rubbing her face again, she wondered who had put the bounty on her, and what it might take to get rid of it.
