Description

Image

Full Legal Name: Reina Isolde Kurosawa Harkov
Aliases: Rei Harkov, Kurage
Occupation: Whatever pays the bills the best at the moment
Age: unknown
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 135 lbs
Eye Color: Blue/Green; unnatural, pale, chatoyant
Hair Color: Blue and Black
Build: Athletic
Race: Human (assumed)
Sex: Female

Preferring to dress in cargo pants, boots, t-shirts and a flight jacket. Function over form is what is most important to her.
Despite these ideals of dress, Rei wears fairly heavy makeup, which conceals a great deal and in some way alters her facial features. It is hard to determine just what the woman beneath the makeup actually looks like, and she goes to a great deal of trouble to keep it that way.

Piercings/Tatoos/markings
Scars - Faint scaring across knuckles from childhood; scar on right lower leg from incident while in military service
Tattoos - Left shoulder (sakura blossom in red ink w/ three graces in black ink surrounding it); left wrist (tribal, blue ink), coms bracelet covers it
Piercings - Right ear: Standard lobe, orbital, helix, and upper lobe
Left ear: Industrial, snug and orbital
Eye brow piercing over right eye.

Personality
Rei is mostly calm, cool and fairly collected. She can though lean towards the disturbed and unstable side of things. She knows who exactly her friends and enemies are; preferring to keep the latter closer in a multitude of perverse and demented ways. She is not afraid to double cross, back stab or do any manner of nasty things to close a deal, or prevent it from going sour. Her talents in negotiation were learned the hard way; out in the field.

Equipment
Isher Mk 3-5 Plasma Pistol
VanVogt Force Blade tucked into the right boot
Coms bracelet, manufacture unknown
Earpiece designed to feed direct images from mini-cameras jettisoned outside a ship and allows the user to communicate directly with a ship's AI without the use of a neural web.

The Ship
Rei's ship, Ghost Dance, is an usual specimen in of the fact that few of these ships, called lighthuggers, have been seen since the Great War of Magellan.

Sitting at 4 km long, the ship is capable of carrying vast amounts of cargo in it's holds and can allow for even greater numbers of passengers if need be. With it's Lockheed-Krunchev engines for propulsion, the ship is capable of extremely powerful bursts of acceleration (at least 10g without any inertial suppression systems) and at cruising between systems pulls 1g on average.
Thought to possess limited repair and redesign capability, these ships are generally coated with a thick layer of ice to use in defense against other ships and minor impacts from objects. However, despite this most of these ships are capable of moving machinery and rooms around within their hulls should their owner desire it, and possess a on-board manufacturing plant for repairs etc.

Weapons
Ghost Dance has relatively small point defense weapons, but they still pack quite a punch.
These weapons are able to blast a 200 km crater into a planet, disrupt weather, and potentially initiate geological events.

The A.I.
Specter is an alpha-level simulation and responsible for assisting Rei with running most of such a large ship. There is a large amount of controversy surrounding the Alpha-Levels, as they were once humans whose minds were scanned and then digitized; these individuals did not survive the process. They are fully self aware, and fully capable of remembering, learning and adapting.

Other Technology
Manufacturies for creating anything from weapons to furnishing rooms on ship.
Inertial Suppression
Cryo-Arithmetic Engines/Dark Drives - allows a ships engines and heat to decay through quantum mechanics and use of a miniature event horizon to make them indistinguishable from background space and temperatures and radiation
Camouflage Screens - stealth technology that further conceals the lighthugger from detection
Hyper Diamond hull - an material of extreme durability made of nanofiber tubules interwoven

History
Rei's largely divorced from baseline humanity, her background is a little murky if at all clear. She's thought to be the daughter of a Taiyou citizen, and a Russish generational ship passenger from a vessel that was originally launched from the Sol system; but she's neither confirmed nor denied these facts. What is known is that she speaks decent enough Taiyou that the local Yakuza have a desire to deal with her when anything out world or in system calls. Her dealings are thought to be fairly small time and innocent enough, an she has little desire to run into trouble with the local law; but has had a few close calls. Possessing excellent piloting, martial arts, and marksmanship skills, she appears to have even perhaps come from a military background. All this once again goes back to the fact that her past is murky, and not even the closest of her friends know the true story of who Rei Harkov is. As a well kept enigma, she is perfectly content to let people wonder.

So begins...

The Aschen’s Fiiskire would find itself under attack from numerous bands of independent factions. They were ‘Splinters’, small groups more focused on defending their jungle hideouts than expanding their petty groups. Perhaps only 10-20 in each, these are the sorts you might expect to find hanging out near dodgy alleyways. They didn’t tend to have in atmosphere fighters of any sort, given their temperament, but would set up traps all around their encampments and arm themselves to ward away other ne’er-do-wells.

For such a purpose is the bizarre chemical concoction known as “Weirdness Sludge”. A viscous, purple, putty-like slime that has a mind-boggling effect on atomic bonds. It gives any substance it touches the same consistency as itself. That is, it turns stuff into a putty-like slime. The material maintains its original colour and chemical makeup. Electronic devices and mechanisms will still work, despite being subjected to the ‘Weirdness’. A steel ceiling may bend downward into the interior, but it IS still as strong as steel and won’t be able to be separated as the sludge itself can be. The sludge can be cleaned/wiped off with something as simple as a tablecloth, at which point the material will warp back into its regular shape. The only substance known to grant immunity to these peculiar effects, is lead, and so it is exactly what the Splinters’ sludge grenades are made of.

There would also be plenty of pitfall traps filled with the stuff, intended to trap intruders in a mess of perspective horror. As for standard weapons, the most basic ballistic firearms and construction tools like nailguns and arm-mounted jackhammers.

Meanwhile, inside one of the Children's hideouts, Roland stood in anticipation after his message.

"They'll step hard and fast. But their MO is to stop this sort of thing before it happens, like us, so at the very least I'd like to imagine we're causing a ruckus."

Roland didn't have a terminal, and refused to use them, so it was common for new recruits to the Children to be devoted couriers. He had only just received word that the Fiiskire was landing in Splinter jungle, delivered by one who had enough of the 'sit and wait' lifestyle of them.

"Say, Rei. I've never been the greatest on the spot, but with a fourman vessel what do you consider our odds on getting out in the mess?"

"We're causing enough of a ruckus that they've taken notice, that we can pretty much confirm." Rei pointed out. It was intensely frustrating to be so disconnected from the additional feeds of information that Specter would have fed her with her ship's various sensor arrays, for now she was having to rely on what the Children had cobbled and cluged together over the last decade.

"A four-manner? Well.. depends on its capabilities I guess. But more than likely they're going to be pretty busy with that jungle for awhile. The stuff between here and Nueva Santiago's pretty rough, depending on where they decided to land. Even then it's going to take them awhile just to cover the ground, not... uh.. counting whatever's out there that wants a snack." She hesitated, having no idea what the Aschen had or hadn't sent. It was all guesswork and eventually someone was going to yell 'You sunk my battleship!' sooner or later; she just hoped it wasn't the Children yelling it. They had been dealt hard enough blows over the last few years, and when the Empire should have stepped in to help, all they did was rub salt in a raw wound.

"Unknown capabilities aside, I can probably get us out of this hell hole given enough time. We'll just have to be careful, probably see if we can't mimick the sensor returns for one of their ships.. or a friendly at least." That in of itself would likely require some retrofitting with newer scraps and electronic paraphenalia scavenged from the closest city. Going into the city would put a target on their back, but nothing like sitting in the jungle like fish in a barrel. At least in the city there was the potential for loosing any hostiles, especially given a lot of them weren't prepared for the maze like cities that called Sky's Edge home.

The time necessary to pull things off smoothly, however was something she wasn't sure that they had a lot of. Rei still had no idea how much time she had lost or gained stuck down in the cenote, and getting up to speed was more challenging than she had originally thought. From the way Roland had treated everything, it seemed like a lot more than just a couple of days.

"Okay let's put it this way, the odds seem pretty bad.. but might as well take a gamble?"

Thomas, in all honesty, was panicking. He completely had forgotten what Roland had told him to do, or if he even had told him to do anything at all. He takes a couple deep breaths, and stops, closing his eyes for a few seconds, momentarily forgetting he's in the middle of a hallway until he's shoved into a wall by some rebels running through, which doesn't do much to help his anxiety.

It takes him a minute or two, but he reigns in his raw fear. He reasons with himself, trying to put everything into perspective. This is what he knows.
1. The Aschen are coming, and soon.
2. The Aschen may not know where they are now, but they likely will soon.
3. Once the Aschen do find them, there will likely be conflict.
4. Once the conflict starts, they will either be destroyed by aerial attack, or attacked by ground forces. Either way, they don't have much chance to win. And if they do, there will just be more Aschen.

This is what he gathers from this.
He needs a gun, and if not given one, he needs to start helping in this hellish, chaotic rush.

He starts running down the halls, heading slightly deeper into the converted base, towards the armory. He gets there pretty quickly, and there's a small swarm of people grabbing gear and weapons. He grabs a gun from a guy that's handing them out, a ridiculously old and simple but effective model firearm called a STEN gun. He grabs a vest, not armored, but padded and capable of holding a couple magazines and some other gear. He grabs three magazines for the STEN gun, and the rest are quickly taken by others.
Then he runs back to Roland, wishing to ask for some sort of direction in this hectic mess.
