One of the ransacked crates that had been pulled open held a large chunk of what appeared to be some sort of pale mineral. The markings on the crate had indicated little more than some sort of scientific samples in a once common language. A few jars of liquid had been stored on a layer above, but the rough handling of the crate had caused a few cracks. As the scavengers migrated towards the control room, a steady drip began to echo through the loading bay.

When the first drip struck, the hunk of mineral began to react. Where once the oddly shaped rock was pale and dull a spot of vivid blue appeared, growing slightly with each drop. As the surface became more saturated it began to swell, coating the thing with a layer of soft, splotchy muck, tenuously held together as if by a skin of surface tension.

Seth set his box down on a desk inside the control room as the others started on various tasks. He nodded his agreement with Rei's not purging the ventilation with out further exploration into why it was sealed off. None the less he could feel the air begin to move ever so slightly, that in and of it self was a welcome change, until it stopped. Part of him wished he hadn't agreed to the logical course of action, it only served to remind him how stale the air was in the room. "Well, that was nice while it lasted."

He wasn't going to be much good a decoding ancient space computers, so he set to work trying to figure out the lock on his box. There were buttons with strange symbols, the readout kept flashing things he didn't understand, so at this point all he could do was push a button and see if something happened. Eventually he found one that seemed to change the characters on screen, so he hit it again, again the characters changed, it was changing languages. "Alright, this could be useful." It took a while but eventually he found one that made words he could read. He still didn't know what they meant, stats and numbers that he had no context for, but at least he was making progress.

Now that he could read the information screen he set about trying to figure out what was in the box. Part of him figured he was going through a lot of work to open something that was surely worthless, but he would keep trying to get the thing open at this point for the sake of doing it.

"200 different logs...I suggest you download those files to a device and listen to them while we move along. As for the ventilation...yeah we should keep them closed, one of us should work on checking the ventilation's for any heat signatures, bacterial substance, or patch into the stations cameras and look around for anything that appears wrong. We are in the control room, there must be some sort of terminal that has access to the monitors. If we are gonna find this mysterious source we might as well make sure nothing on this station is going to ambush us." Russian spoke before looking at the terminals scattered around the room for anything that seemed connected to the cameras, if they even still worked.

Eventually Russian found what he was looking for, a working terminal that was connected to a few working cameras. Of course it needed a password but with his hacking expertise he easily hacked into the terminal and began to use the working cameras to look around. "Lets see here...we have the hanger...some random hallway...and nothing else. Lets see what we find shall we?" Looking through the cameras, he found nothing of note. Just some old crates and more wreckage. He concluded this was a waste of time even though he spent less than a minute looking through it and stood up from the terminal to go somewhere else.

"Well the camera idea is now useless, now time to find out whats in those vents." Russian muttered as he walked over to one of the closed vents before placing a device on it. It was not an explosive of course, it was just a little gadget that would bore a tiny hole into the vent and insert a small remote controlled probe inside it so it would not let out any sort of virus and nothing would be able to get out easily. "So anyone brave enough to search the vents with my probe? Or not eager to have something suddenly jump in front of the camera to give you a heart attack?" He asked as he took off the device on his arm and offered it to anyone willing to give it a shot. "Its like using a toy."

After hearing Rei, she immediately cancelled the Purge and nodded somewhat, "Yeah, you are right, no purging until we get answers on what is going on or at least what is blocking those vents." hearing Russ's idea she brightened and grinned, "I am busy checking the logs, but that seems like an idea certainly." pressing few keys she started moving through the logs they were extensive in how they were ordered and would make any attempt to go through them, easy. Nonetheless, she saw what Russ did and approached over to the console and cameras, having some tech knowledge, she was little more patient moving the cameras over the station, not all rooms were lit so she had switch some to UV or Nightvision. Although as she examined the loading bay, something caught her eye, it was hard to see, but there was movement.

Speaking up she turned to them all, "One of those crates we destroyed, there is something moving near them, camera can't zoom in, but see for yourself." with that she gestured whoever would over to them.

As her attention was from the main control panel, immediately a fresh log began to play.

Captain Nimmara Log: "The nations are cooperating surprisingly well despite my misgiving. Still I have a feeling in my gut that something going to happen. The mining meanwhile on Eros 4 has hit a snag, the mineral is more powerful than we could ever wish for, but strangely tunnels we form keep caving in. It is like something trying to keep us from getting this. The whole mineral we have classified Turritoid. It appears to displace itself into another reality if threatened, we have tested this on armour and have found the results is the person is not hit. Although, my head scientist Christine Kellen suggests we should perform more extensive tests on this and see if being displaced into another reality, has negative effects.

The Maclaun Generals are adamant that we must make use of this and any negative effects are not worth considering meanwhile the other nations are arguing viciously. Still I do believe just as long we keep it locked tight and perform tests, this could be ideal symbol of unity. This mineral making us all have invincible armies... My first mate is less enthuastic and he keeps telling me..."

Slowly what seemed to be a mineral formation rehydrated, the bluish muck becoming gradually more opaque and solid looking. As the surface smoothed, what appeared to be a twisted lump run with cracks and crevices began to take on a more definitive shape. Limbs differentiated themselves from torso as skin firmed up, vivid blues fading to something more soft and pale as the flesh took on its intended shape. Then finally, within the core of the mineral, a head finished forming and a face appeared. The shape was distinctly humanoid, so much so as to seem intentional and long silver fibers that had been matted against the stony surface now cascaded down like hair. Finally awake, Rhen uncurled his body and sat up, silvery eyes blinking as they remembered their function.

Rei just sighed as she took over from Daisy at the consoles. The woman had the world's worst attention span and she really didn't want anything to do with whatever suggestion Russian had to drill through the vents. So instead she hung back and started a search for any other logs that might be of use to them.

"Brain of bird.." She muttered under her breath as she watched the brightly lit screen's text scroll past. Those three could get in all the trouble they wanted, but frankly Rei had a bad feeling about something there on the station. She had felt uneasy since they came on board, and the feeling had yet to go away.

With hundreds of hours logged in space, she knew this wasn't some sort of case of nerves.

The Console would flash red for the faintest of moments, Perhaps like blood dripping down the screen, and following a split second, the console returned to normal.

Seth had just started to get the feeling he was making progress when Daisy mentioned movement. He decided the box would have to wait and stepped over to the monitor console. He watched the screen intently for a moment. "Definitely something there." He looked at each of them in turn, "I guess I'll go take a look."

Maybe he felt like he needed to do something productive to fit in with these seasoned space travelers, or maybe he was just that naive. Seth made his way back into the loading bay with out hesitation. "Here kitty kitty." He mumbled as he approached the area the camera had been pointing. "This is the part of the movie where the poor unaware traveler mysteriously vanishes." Seth joked to himself before turning to a camera and waving. "Arrivederci!"

Returning his attention to the area where they had seen movement he was shocked to see a body. "Ma dai!?" he noticeably jumped back and fumbled for just a moment as he reached into the pouch were his weapon was, though he didn't draw it out. "Chi diavolo sei tu?" He stammered, then realizing he had spoken in Italian, "Who the hell are you?" He the realized that it might very well not matter what language he spoke in... he had no idea what he was talking to. "You weren't here a minute ago..." He said, eyeing the crate. What the hell was going on on this station?

Hearing the Italian banter with himself on the way back, the thing in the box shifted its head oddly on its neck, opening and closing the mouth as it readjusted to mobility. When the startled man jumped back, the creature mirrored the action, scrambling back and tipping the crate over, responding with a series of odd clicks and whistles to the sudden demands in Italian. Now sprawled on the floor, the shape appeared even more distinctly humanoid, the shape of muscle and bone structure reflected almost perfectly save for a lack of any visible indications of gender.

When the question came out in a dialect of the common exchange language like that of Nimmara's logs, the stranger replied in kind. "Who the hell are you?" It peered around in a panic. "Where was I a minute ago?" The words seemed almost an empty echo of Seth's questions until the scene of destruction and abandonment finally registered in the wide silver eyes. "Holy shit," it said, a simple but calm declaration of surprise. It lifted a hand, noticing the layers of dust it had picked up from the floor before wiping it off calmly on its leg.

Russian got curious when Daisy mentioned seeing something on the monitors. He set the little probe on autopilot and walked over to the cameras and peered into the screen and watched as Seth looked behind the crates and jumped back while shouting in Italian. Russian shrugged and decided to sit down on one of seats. ¨I'm sure he can handle it himself, if not then we can come running and help him. For now I'm going to wait until my probe picks up anything, if not then we just go to our destination, loot the station, then head back to the ship and celebrate with a drink.¨

After speaking, Russian began to look through the probes camera and made sure that the vent was not contaminated with any disease or populated by aliens. It would be much cheaper to just go through this without any trouble, creating very specific ammo was not cheap.

As this all took place, she heard the log, now only now was Daisy feeling a strong growing sense of unease. It did not help she truly felt that they had stepped on ground forbidden to them. It seemed this wave of doubt was echoed in all their sentiment. Although not spoken the group seemed to have this foreboding hanging over them. "It is hard to dance with the devil on your back." that very lyric spoke to her, nonetheless she turned deathly to the Russian, "Are you are sure we should not listen to all of the logs first or at least more?" her voice less casual, but full of disquiet.

So focused was Daisy she completely missed the thing happening on the console, still the log began to play, a fresh one.

Captain Nimmara Log: "BLAST... BLAST IT ALL TO HELL... I can't deny it, something is determined to stop our mining efforts on Eros 4. I don't know what it is, but now the miners are not safe on the surface... We assumed removing them from the moon surface, I believed this would end the attempts, but all miners involved experience powerful night terrors. I can hear them screaming as I write these logs. I am this close to ending the mining, but Maclaun Generals are making it harder. They won't see the sense here, they just demand results... The Renev normally cautious even seem more demanding.

I am half tempted to jettison it into space, but something stops me. Maybe I believe things can be salvaged.

There is meeting today with all five Ambassadors and the crew to decide if we continue efforts on Eros 4. I feel we will, but something wants us off this moon, something..."

The thing seemed to repeat Seth's questions back to him, it was almost like hearing them made it ask those same questions itself, like it had suddenly become aware of the fact that those questions should have answers. It had somewhat of a disarming effect on Seth, who removed his hand from the pouch holding his weapon. Finally the thing seemed to take in its surroundings, which seemed to take it somewhat by surprise. Seth really wasn't sure what to make of this, did this thing recognize that the loading bay was a mess? Did it not expect to find it in the current state of disarray?

"Look, I don't know where you came from." Seth started, "We were just in here not five minutes ago and you weren't here." he scratched the back of his neck, still not sure if this thing really understood what he was saying or had just been parroting words. He decided that the only way to figure that out was to keep asking questions as though the thing did understand him. Maybe if he was lucky he might learn something about the station in the process.

"Well, I guess, my name is Seth anyway." He started, slightly awkwardly, "What's yours?"

Rhen was puzzling over the chaos surrounding when Seth's words drew its attention once more. The being stood up slowly, trying not to startle the man with the weapon, then dusted itself off. "I, er.. Well I guess I was in there." Rhen peered at the box and broken jars. The details of what happened were still fuzzy, but the idea of being stuffed in a box seemed to fit what Rhen could recall. Yes, the more Rhen thought about it, the more the box was upsettingly familiar. This prompted a step to the side away from the box.

Noting again the man with the questions, Rhen smiled brightly. "Of course, yes. My name." Rhen tried to think of common names of the region and stumbled on something that might fit, a fragment of memory that filled the blank. "Call me Quinn. I don't suppose you've got something to drink? Or pants..." Pants were important in these parts as far as Rhen could recall. It was starting to come back a bit. Such wonderful, strange people there were on the station. Looking at the wreckage of the loading bay, Rhen started to wonder what might have happened to them. It didn't seem like anything good. Rhen gave a wistful sigh, then looked up at Seth for a reply.

As Russian heard the message log he couldn't help but think to the rock in his bag. "I think I am starting to piece together the events that happened on this station, I think we should hurry up and finish this mission just to be safe. Of course if something does come I have enough explosives to send it to hell and beyond." He chuckled as his probe sent him a message that the vent was clear and their was no sign of poison in the air.

"Well, Seth sure is taking his time communicating with...whatever he is talking to. I'm going to move on ahead and check the armory. If you want to play another log feel free to play it in my ear and if you need anything just say." Russian said as he stood up and began to leave the control room by himself, not worried about whatever horror lurked in the station.

Daisy herself was beginning to piece together too what happened, although certain things were unclear thus she decided to skip to the final log. Gazing uncertain at Rei she bit her lip before typing in the command and all at once the log began. To say Daisy was horrified was an understatement, her eyes widened in horror as it played.

Captain Nimmara Log: "That rock, that damn rock everything about it it just seems to make people act extremely possessive. I have barricaded the control room and armoury to prevent anything else getting the munition, but already the alliances we built are breaking down. The Macluan claim that we are all trying to keep the rock for ourselves and this is nothing but an attempt to weaken them. Worse deep in Eros Mines something was discovered, we kept it hidden but it appears unearthly even without measure. All the crew... 500 hundred strong dead or insane. I am the last and beg if anyone finds these logs, don't even pick up the rocks, don't touch them. They only need to be felt once and then it begins, the sickness the want. I can hear them banging at the door.

I... we had such noble goals and honourable views... but this rock torn apart everything... infected us and the anomaly we don't fully understand it... this will be the last communication I make, but be warned to prevent the rock getting out the locks of the doors automatically seal shut after half an hour. I can't let this get out. I can't... and because I touched it, I can't survive... this is the final message... we had so many plans, so many goals... and it been ripped apart...

I have one more thing to say before I lift my pistol to end my life, the miners those who survived are like the rest of the crew, those who died they threw themselves into the vents... we did not realize until the stench spread. I am broken, destroyed... how could we allow this... how could we so foolish. This is Captain Nimmara of the Burdokian Race the last one... the last sane one... THAT FUCKING ROCK... THAT DAMN ROCK... THAT ROCK WILL BE MINE... MINE..."

Daisy made sure the log transmitted to all on board, Seth and Rus before looking at Rei, "How long has it been?"

"Since the logs were entered or since Rus and Seth went to explore?" Rei asked having been momentarily distracted by something on the screen. It had been her imagination right? Maybe a symptom of over indulgence in things in preparation for this current adventure. Shaking her head slightly, Rei tried to clear her muddied thoughts. "But either way those crates are a problem. I'm not taking a damn thing from this place with me, I'm gonna call this a wash."

Who knew what else was lurking in that derelict station? Rei wasn't sure she wanted to resort to other measures to even find out. "The station cursed itself."

Seth had been so caught off guard by the sudden appearance of Quinn that he hadn't even recognized that it wasn't wearing any clothes. "Sorry, no pants. But I do have some water." he pulled a small bottle out of one of his suits pouches and handed it over as the log started to play over his com.

Seth looked at his hands in a slight panic, relieved that the gloves still seemed to be just as intact as they had been before touching the rock, hopefully that was a good sign. Then he heard something even more ominous. "...the locks of the doors automatically seal shut after half an hour." he started looking around, trying to gauge how long they had been on the station. It certainly felt like more than half an hour.

"Guys, should we be leaving while the doors aren't shut?" He asked, but then saw the air lock door slowly begin to creep closed. "Shit!" He stumbled as he moved around the crates towards the door, he didn't want to risk any more exposure to the rocks than he needed to, and he wasn't entirely sure what he planned on doing if he made it to the door, but he went for it none the less. Only to put a hand on the metal of the door as it slid shut, hissing loudly before a audible and definitive clank of the locks rang out. "Go to space they said. It'll be fun they said." He sighed. "Guys... bad news."

Russian listen to the rather disturbing log and after it was finished he just shrugged. It was a rock that wanted to be taken and he himself wanted the rock, regardless if it began to tempt him to taking him with it. He had faced the forces of Chaos, and had to deal with the whole whispering of the mind and demons trying to tempt him to join Chaos. It was safe to say that he was not going to be tempted by a rock.

When the others mentioned something about the doors closing automatically within 30 minutes, Russian just shrugged again. "Who cares? I can just hack the thing again and open it. Unless the stations power went out we should be fine, and if it does...well...I might have a solution to it." Russian spoke into the communicator as he arrived at the area where the armory was. The door was sealed shut with some marks on top of it showing signs of something trying to force its way through. "So the vents are filled with dead bodies and there is a monster who is hunting down people who touch a rock. This sounds like one cheesy scary movie." He sighed as he began to hack into the armory door to see what it contained. Of course he was now isolated from the others on an abandoned station with something lurking around, he was not scared in the slightest. Whatever wanted to attack him, he had plenty of bullets to spend.

The lights flickered on, Marick’s weapon snapped to his shoulder , watching for danger.

“ Was that you?”

Sara shook her head, her own weapon snapping to the doorway as well.

“ Somewhere else on the station, hold on let me check for any other access points that are currently active.”

Sorting through the code that flooded her vision, she quickly found a few live terminals, only one had been near a docking point however. She logged the terminal location on her H.U.D and disconnected from the server. She would now have a visual marker placed on the approximate location of the connection that she and her partner could see.

Thought we were supposed to be the only ones here.”

Survivors? Renev sending a back up team? scavengers?

Probably the latter, Lets proceed with caution and stick to the primary focus, I’ll play the audio logs as we move. Take point under thermoptic camouflage and keep soft contact. Should we need to we can remove any threats. “ Sara said.
Roger, staying soft.

With that the two cyborgs flashed bright white, then melted as if made out of thin air. Standing still it was almost as if they were never there. Only when they moved did a very faint shimmer appear from their combat suits.

Mavrick took point , and pushed the hallway. The faint warm light sputtered and flickered , a short no doubt that gave the hallway a shifting feeling. Sara followed watching their backs, keeping track of Mavericks movements with the H.U.D.

The audio logs started playing softly , as if in the background of the cyborgs minds.
Captain Nimmara Log:1 '< report>

Test, test, one two three, Ah there we go. As upon the request of Admiral Hume, I am logging the events around Eros 4 and the Penta alliance. The treaty was signed today by the five ambassadors of the surrounding territories; The Renev, Macluan, Scry, Adnormen, and us ; Burdokians.

I actually have high hopes for this endeavor, The Renev are leading in the scientific area as normal, Macluan are providing security, the Scry labor and mining equipment, and the Andormen transportation , communications equipment, and we have the easy job of bank rolling it all, Thankfully our nation has such a high trade profit, even more so now Jarrako Downs is completed, This will likely be a new age of prosperity for all involved. Finally a lasting peace brought on by a common goal, profit.

“ Pushing right, marker is 700 M to our 245 azm, “
“ So this was a tradeport? I wonder what went sideways here… Judging by the decor I would assume some sort of riot.”

Mavrick ignored Sara’s musing as he picked his way through the hallway. It looked like someone had barricaded some of the living quarters and set up a checkpoint to prevent traffic from getting to one side of the station. This hadn't been a riot.

“ two dead bodies up front, long dead…watch your step” He said stepping over the decayed corpse that still clutched a weapon, and some sort of crystal charm.

The next audio log clicked on.

Captain Nimmara Log: 2 <report>

It's been 8 common cycles since we've signed the treaty, I'm surprised how quickly we've managed to set up this mining operation, the Renev's scouting equipment must be much more significant that we ever understood as they seem to have gathered a large amount of information in a short time. They have narrowed down the area proving to be abundant in high density crystals and ore to a 3 km grid square. The Andormen have set up a ring gate from the station to the main mining site allow for easy transport, not gonna lie, It was really strange being torn apart and put back together... Anyhow, there are reports of some dwellings on the moon, which seems odd all things considered ,we thought this sector was dead space.
Hopefully things keep going well.

Sara frowned, Teleportation tech, that old? Now that was interesting, she would have to find this thing and get to the surface, it might lead to some more information about all this.

They had closed the distance greatly , only 250 meters away from the last active terminal now.

Feeling terribly uneasy, Daisy heard from her communicator that Seth just saw the doors close. Immediately she began to hyperventilate. It was well too much all at once, she had been prepared for certain problems, but this way beyond what she had imagined. Let it be said, Daisy was not green, nonetheless she was quickly agreeing with Rei. The fact she had touched the rock was making her panic even more.

Less inclined to relax, she whimpered with general disquiet, her body shivering, while she gripped herself much like a jacket of some sort...

Emotive elicitations escaping her throat like sounds of strangled cat or mouse. Biting her lip and all confidence gone.

So scared was she the gun dropped with a clatter.

Safety still on.

Next she fell and started to weep speaking to herself, "Rei... I just wanted to find out what happened here... I just wanted to understand... just like know... I am barely related, but I had heard stories of them... I had heard how they strived... strived to be a force of unity... I believed..." sniffling she looked up tearfully at her, "I did not want to trap you all... I did not know half of this... all I knew is this station was abandoned and no one knew what happened... I just believed I could find the logs and everyone would get rich from this... This was not even my first salvage, it was just my most ambitious... but the doors are sealed in Hanger and I doubt they can be hacked this time..."

Sighing she suspected Rei would feel no sympathy for her, "I know I seem naive, but please understand I did thoroughly study schematics of this station I could find. I even took a lesson in the tech. I was prepared... I just..." turning away she picked herself up, "I'll see if I can crack the security from my knowledge, no promises though..." with that she walked over to console and once more switched to controls, silently praying that she could hope to break this advanced security.
