Special Agent Retna, SIB.

0 · 1,367 views · located in The Infinite Void

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by Cloasse

Description

Image

Name: Romanae Retna

Nicknames: Ro, Rory

Race: Human

Birthday: 23 August

Age: 34

Gender: Female

Height: Five feet six inches

Weight: 124 lbs

Eye Colour: Dark gray

Hair Colour: Dark titian (ginger)

Distinguishing Marks: The majority of Romanae's body is scarred. She has light white marks running diagonally down her left cheek, and she has a scar trailing from the left corner of her mouth to the middle of her cheek. Her torso, arms and thighs are especially scarred.

Other Features: Romanae's accent is a deeper Scottish lilt and is considered rougher than the average female voice.

History: Previously a Captain in the British Army, Ro now works for Wing City Police Department's SIB as a Special Agent. The SIB (Special Investigations Branch) deals with crime involving/against those in the Armed Forces and Military Police Arms. With a team of four men and herself as leading officer making five, the small but functional team worked well together until a new face was introduced.

Five months previously, another officer had left the team in order to be transferred across seas as a liaison officer. Now that there is a new probationary officer involved, it isn't quite so certain that Ro's team will gel as well as the last one did.

So begins...

Romanae dissolved into quiet mumbling over her tea as she blew over the rim of her cup.

"See? Doesn't that feel better?"

"Stop being an arsehole... I hate you."

"I love you too."

"Oh, great... One of them is having a little freak out about God only knows what. Yay."

"Romanae, you could try and be happy, you know! I got you out of the office!"

"I was happy in the office. Bugger off and leave me to control things from the comfort of a chair." Romanae paused, sipping her tea. "A reclining chair."

Romanae and Edan sat in a relatively comfortable silence for all of two minutes.

"Eurgh."

"What now, Romanae? I swear, ever since you got knocked up you've been like this insatiable and irritable harpy..."

"... I can't believe you just called me a harpy."

"Don't cry!"

"I'm not going to cry, you fucker, I'm going to kick you so you can't make any more babies."

"... you can't even lift your feet that high."

Romanae stared at Edan.

"... no, really, don't cry... Don't cry, don't cry, don't cry. Mordecai's at the office and he gets really uncomfortable when you cry and then he gives me more work!"

"Can I go and tell that girl that she's being a royal --"

"No, Romanae. Good Lord, woman."

"What..?"

"Not everyone wants to be robbed of their bliss," Edan stated with a roll of his eyes. "You might try to enjoy yourself here, no? No? Oh... Fine, then. Go do whatever you want, but I'm not helping you off the stool, nor am I giving you my gun."

"That's okay," Romanae stated as she slid off the stool quite easily and meandered (read: waddled) over towards Grape and her companions. "I robbed you of it - enjoy your bliss!" the woman grinned over her shoulder as she held up the weapon of choice. "Thanks, babe."

Grinning with an expression that spoke more of sadistic joy than happiness, Romanae toddled all the way over to Grape and peered down at the girl, one hand on her stomach and the other easily holding her gun at her side.

"First kiss?" She almost sounded sympathetic. Almost. "Aw... Wait until you have sex. Then you get loaded with a kid. Do you know that most women get stitches down there after their first birth? Fun, huh?"

If gangs of soldiers striding into the bar, armed to their necks with all sorts of hi-tech weaponry, was at all normal, then the two weary soldiers who walked in, a bit muddy and carrying nothing dangerous barring their own physically tired bodies, wouldn't spook even the meekest of people. Still, the eldest of the pair had mud down his shins and on his face whilst the younger female had it streaked down her back - both of them had at least had the common decency to clean the worst of it off their shoes and fatigues before entering the establishment.

"Remind me why we're here," the redhead prompted as the two went towards the bar. "Because this looks like a bar. And I'm tired."

"Hotel above it, though," came the amused reply. "And I booked rooms. We can have something warm to drink and then have a good night's sleep before we go off with the new recruits tomorrow afternoon."

"I hate training the babies..."

"I think you bruised my ribs," the female spoke as she settled on to a stool and pulled up her shirt to inspect the damage on her left side (not indecently, of course). "You didn't have to actually do that, Mordecai."

"Well, I didn't have to," Mordecai agreed, pausing his ordering of hot chocolate and tea. "The new kids thought it was informative."

"It'll be informative tomorrow when I ambush the fuck out of your team, then."

"Language... You should strap yourself tonight and give your ribs a bit of support as opposed to just leaving that, you know. I think I've got some anti-inflammatories in my pack back at the camp."

Tugging her t-shirt down over her stomach, Romanae tilted her head at Mordecai and raised one light eyebrow. "So... You leave the helpful pills with the babies. Smart move, 'Cai, really smart move."

"They're not going to get high off anti-inflammatories."

"If they've raided your pack - that little shit you got in the back of the knee was really pissed at you this morning - and those pills are gone, then I'm going to make sure you're the one in need of the damn things."

"I've only a small bruise on my back. I'm perfectly healthy otherwise and pretty sure that you're now incapable of winning against me again."

"Bastard," Ro cooed, reaching over the man to take the cup of hot chocolate that had materialised during their conversation. "You and your prissy tea."

Mordecai pointed idly towards the pretty light display occurring. "I think that guy just said he made a hat of silence."

"What. The fuck."

"Ro... Don't laugh into your bloody hot chocolate, you're going to stain your t-shirt worse than it is already."

"Can't... breathe... laughing... oh my God - fuck me, that's good comedy."

Romanae raised a rather unimpressed eyebrow at the stranger's words. "Yeah? Don't look good? I don't need to look good."

"Behave."

"It's just a bit of mud and a couple of bruises. It's not like my fucking leg is hanging on by a thread - I am not an idiot, unlike some of the inbred fools who think this is a hospital."

Once again, an irritated noise drew itself from the young woman's throat whilst Mordecai presented a pleasant expression and nodded. "Most people feel quite safe with soldiers, I suppose. Some soldiers more than others, though... So. Er. D'you live around here or something?"

"So you're like some kind of creepy magic forest thing?" Romanae casually asked, stirring her hot chocolate with a plastic spoon. "Sounds boring."

"Romanae." The warning tone in Mordecai's voice was clear and had clearly been used many a time if the amused reaction it garnered from the woman was anything to go by. "Watch your tone. Seriously, she's just tired. We're, uh... training at the moment and we don't get much time to just sit about and chat, to be honest."

"Well... They're pretty much new - they've done the basic training gig that everyone gets into, but this lot are trying to get into specific teams and so on..." Mordecai explained with a shrug.

"Even I've got O Levels," Romanae snorted.

"You failed English."

"I got Phys Ed, Maths, Biology and Spanish, though."

"Still..."

"Maybe you should head upstairs, Retna."

"I'm finishing my damn hot chocolate," the soldier grumbled in response.

"Well..." Mordecai shook his head and returned the majority of his attention to the other present. "I'm sure if she weren't so grumpy, she'd be mildly impressed by your lack of care for formal tests. Romanae almost attempted to skip the medical examination that would allow her into the army, which wouldn't have gone well. Not to mention her complete disregard for authority."

"You love me really, 'Cai. Even if I don't live in a forest."

Romanae snorted. "Oh, please... We've all got sob stories around here - I really could care less who died or why and what you've selflessly done to attempt to prevent it. No one ever really gives a shit."

Mordecai exhaled quietly before shaking his head and standing, wrapping a long-fingered hand around Romanae's bicep in order to draw her to her feet. Pressing a key into her hand in order to make his order quite clear, he pointed towards the staircase and released her. Once she had directed an unamused look at both Aerilyn and her commanding officer, the soldier stalked off, muttering about idiots and bars.

"I'd say to just ignore her, but she has this way of being loud enough to hear regardless," Mordecai stated, tone apologetic. "She's not usually that pissy..."

"I don't have a sob story. And her one is more interesting than sobby - y'know, for other people. I think she might find it a bit sad, I can never tell with her." Mordecai paused his speech to listen to Aerilyn and take the time to sip his lukewarm tea.

"Besides, she probably wouldn't understand the whole being grateful for no warfare thing. Kinda thrives on the whole thing, what with Isaacs moving off to the SIB and so on. But, uh... that's interesting, with the hearing."

"Huh. That is interesting. We don't have anyone with an iota of magic in our team, you know. Romanae's adverse to the entire concept and most of the people who have applied don't pass the medical. People like you who get overwhelmed just from the sound of gunfire wouldn't last seconds if you're caught in it."

"... bloody Mordecai... 'You should learn to pay attention during training' blah, blah, blah. How difficult is it to load, aim and fire? Not that difficult..."

The young woman muttering away to herself as she entered the bar was in civilian clothing, although the boots she wore were likely standard issue from the British Army. Walking to the bar counter with a straight back and strong, even strides, the plain, red-headed female went to seat herself on a stool before taking a small amount of aggression out on the touch-screen ordering menu.

"Fuck me - what happened to a bartender you could rage at?" the soldier groused, scowling as her order for a bottle of some unknown brand of beer was 'accepted'. "Jeez... Lazy bastards..."

Ro Retna raised an eyebrow at those suddenly appearing (just her luck - all the freaks would come out to play) before heaving a sigh and ungratefully grumbling about bad service when her bottle of beer was placed before her, chilled and somewhat damp.

"There used to be plenty of bartenders around," she mused out loud, perhaps for her own benefit, perhaps for the ears of others. "Folk even used to pretend they were bartenders... fucking freaks."

Petulantly ignoring the fact that she was no doubt pissing Mordecai off with her absence (she was allowed to be here, enjoying the city, and she wasn't going to waste the opportunity to get pissed in favour of spending time with her commanding officer - hell no), Romanae brought the bottle to her lips, tipping both it and her head back in order to sate a thirst.

"I'm going to need more beer..."

Ro Retna tilted her head to level dark, dingy grey eyes at Rio. Pausing what would've been some biting remark about minding his own damn business to consider what he had actually said, the woman smirked.

"Well... I suppose that's a good point," she eventually agreed. "Now I just have to worry about all the freaks on the patron-side of the counter, hm? You don't seem to be too freaky..." As she spoke, Romanae glanced over her left shoulder at the other patrons present. "At least, not comparatively," the pretty, if snarky, young woman amended.

"Oh, hunny," Ro sighed, placing a cold, somewhat clammy hand on her own forehead as if she were about to swoon. "Don't you just charm my little heart? God, I hope girls don't fall for that unless they're full of drink."

Suppressing what was surely a bit of an egotistical laugh, the smirk returned in full-force as Romanae looked Rio up and down.

"Girls concealing weapons like me do not pay for smart-arse alcoholics like you," Ro added, "but my name's Romanae."
