The ruling descendant of her family ancestry, she has taken great pride in establishing the Echelon faith from generations to come. Ruby is known for having the strongest bond with her ancestors of House Kalahari.
In presence of others, she carries herself high regard and royal etiquette, but in the comfort of her relatives she changes her attitude and tends to be a tease. Often pulling pranks while others aren't watching, she enjoys getting others into trouble; in which she is later scolded for in her sleep by ancestral spirits. After taking opposition in House Kalahari, she enforced the Echelon faith on Sahure and only respected those marked by the ancestral line--anyone who ignores their descendants are looked down upon and scoffed. Ruby is very spiritual, she is in tuned with nature and living creatures, in which she performs ritual dances in appreciation of their existence. Sometimes she can be morally ambiguous without acknowledging it for herself, and makes the wrong decisions that are emotionally driven--in this instance she is interrupted seconds before taking action by her clairvoyance and precognition abilities.
Inneslutte - A scimitar crafted out of sacred ore, it is one of the three sacred treasures of House Kalahari. It has the power to absorb any type of energy, good or evil. "Inneslutte" is inscribed at the hilt of the scimitar, along with a short passage that reads, "Enclose the deity". The history behind Inneslutte is depicted on the interior walls of the Kalahari temple, in which "Inneslutte" is a Kalahari descendant who marks his power to the scimitar in the possession of his offspring. The energy can be enclosed, and released at will; it can only be used by the Kalahari bloodline, in which the user must establish a connection with Inneslutte's soul within the scimitar in order to activate the properties. The scimitar remains in a sheath bounded on her back, and often hidden under her shawl.
Opplyse - A holy set of katars given to Ruby by her father Sandoval Kalahari, who is known for his ability to forge weapons from sacred ore. It has divine properties and echelons which channel spiritual energy, starting from the hilt to the edge of the blades; it can also light up and emit rays of spiritual energy. The katars negate unholy energy, and evil spirits which become purified on contact; they are kept in holsters strapped to the sides of her ankles.
Rikelig Seal - A set of tambourines crafted from sacred ore and passed down to Ruby by her mother Vanessa, in which she used as a child to perform rituals. Similar to the katars, there is an echelon seal inscribed which allows spiritual energy to channel through sound caused by the jingles; the flow of spiritual energy allows the Våkne ritual to be performed. These are kept by Vanessa, in which the Rikelig Seal can be brought to the prime material plane when performing Våkne Ritual.
Ren - A round-cut mirror composed of dielectric materials, it is one of the three sacred treasures of House Kalahari, with the ability to purify anything (human beings or objects) corrupted with evil energy. Often kept within her shawl.
Grundämne Scrolls - A collection of Echelon enchanted scrolls which filters spiritual energy and applies different elemental and non-elemental attributes. Elemental scrolls are tinted with the color of their element, and can be combined by overlapping the scrolls--this includes holy and dark attributes. Non-elemental scrolls serve as a means of projecting portals to other planets or planes. The scrolls are often rolled up in individual sheaths of two leather belts, there are two sets of each scroll, each belt is strapped on Ruby's upper thighs beneath her hip scarf. Upon use, the scrolls are rolled out, transfused with spiritual energy and act as the property inscribed on the scroll.
Sannhet - An ancient four legged bull-like Karkadan that has long curved horn growing from it's forehead. This beast's horn is so deadly, its breath so vile, and its bellow so thunderous that it strikes terror in most living creatures; the horn was prized for its ability to detect and neutralize poison. Sannhet was the only Karkadan of its kind that didn't have these characteristics, he was under the care of House Kalahari for generations, and was well tamed to follow the Kalahari bloodline. Although the Echelon faith limited communication between humanoids, Sannhet was able to identify truth, the beast's ability was determined based on its horn--if the person in question was telling the truth or not, he/she would touch the tip of the horn; if the truth was said the horn would not prick the person, if a lie was said the horn would cut through flesh. The nature of Sannhet was in a state of equanimity, which contradicted the wild nature of Karkadan, House Kalahari believed that Sannhet was a strong asset to the court; and family pet. After the beast died of old age, Sandoval Kalahari crafted a scabbard from its horn and carved it with the same echelon markings on Sannhet's body, the scabbard enclosed a sharp metal blade within; it is one of the three sacred treasures of House Kalahari. The properties of the scabbard itself were similar to the Karkadan's ability to identify truth, whether the person in question was righteous or not, it would be determined whether the scabbard itself could be used as a lethal weapon.
Väliaikainen Echelon Seal - After the Villfarelse Ritual is performed, several seals crafted from sacred ore are applied to the apparent souls and enables physical contact with non-living objects; with the exception of individuals of the same bloodline. A sealed soul/spirit cannot touch living things/people and cannot be touched by the living--they are under the full control of the ritualist. When a descendant of the sealed soul/spirit accepts the Echelon faith, the Våkne Ritual is performed to complete the spiritual connection with the descendant’s ancestors and become gifted with spiritual energy; echelons are marked on their bodies by their ancestors, which allow energy to channel throughout.
Sürekli Echelon Seal - The sacred ore seal becomes a permanent part of soul/spirit, which allows the soul/spirit to appear in the prime material plane. A sealed soul/spirit cannot touch living things/people and cannot be touched by the living. The soul/spirit is under the full control of the ritualist.
Soul infused charms - Souls that are not redeemed as Echelon’s on an offspring’s body are kept by the Empress. The Sürekli Echelon Seal is applied and the souls are kept within charms that represent the soul that is contained inside. The charms on the edge Ruby’s hip scarf, with the rest of the charms--not all of them contain souls. The souls can be released at will.
Ruby Kalahari is the daughter of Duke Sandoval and Lady Vanessa, the heir of House Kalahari, a prominent Echelon aristocratic family that rules the planet of Sahure. As a child, she was always fascinated with the communication of the dead--she would wander out to meet new spirits and befriend them. In her adventures she has encountered several evil spirits, which added to her bitterness towards individuals who do not follow the Echelon faith. Ruby believed that these souls are evil as a result of their negligence of the ancestral line; in which they have lost contact with them even in the after life. Ruby's parents were unwary of this specific mind set, and never established social morals with individuals who did not believe in the Echelon faith. Sahure has been at peace for generations to come, occupying themselves with ceremonial rituals, gaining knowledge, and studying nature with no insight of the world beyond their own. After the natural deaths of her parents, Ruby became the ruler of Sahure at the age of 15, and was watched over by the shamans of the Kalahari Temple. Feudalism remained prominent in Sahure, House Kalahari has the longest ancestral line and it is believed to be traced from the beginning of time--however, those ancestors have lost contact and all attempts to perform Våkne Ritual failed. Ruby is revered for having the most echelon markings on her body, in addition to receiving echelons by her deceased parents. At the age of 17, Ruby went through a stage of obsession over restless and corrupted spirits that she sent an order for the Echelon followers to rid Sahure of those spirits in order to purify the world. The purification was complete four years later, but it simply was not enough; Ruby sought to expand the Echelon faith beyond her own universe, and encouraged the Echelon followers to come to an agreement of setting a course across the universe.
In Solaris XII, the Kalahari ancestry suggested to the Empress to convert the people on the planet. In doing so, Ruby summoned the ancestors of the people within the area of the ritual circle that was created on the surface of the planet; it was then discovered, that those who had no memory of their ancestors prevented the summoned souls from communicating with their offspring. The souls of those who were rejected were kept within charms while others were sent to Tarqa to serve the Academy--specifically those souls that were once apart of other factions; in order to gain knowledge among Echelonians.
