Name: Sabrina Dijkstra
Age: 23
Race: Human
Significant Relations: Employees at the clubs she sings at, her doctor.

Height: 5' 6"
Weight: 119 lbs
Physical Description: Pale and slight, Sabrina is a very feminine young woman - weak, pasty and apparently innocent. Of course, she isn't actually innocent, but that's another story. With naturally deep red hair, Sabrina is quite beautiful, in a small and 'pretty' manner. There is a hint of haggardness to her eyes, as if she is always tired, that never seems to go away.

Personality: Cynical and jaded, Sabrina isn't a spoil-sport but neither does she find it easy to take joy in things. Her vices are superficial and fleeting, and devotion is something that she longs for but does not possess. She has no faith in love, and doesn't make a habit of sleeping with people unless it will bring her profit. In day-to-day interaction, she's quite willing to take part in most conversation, and isn't moody, but neither is she the life of the party. Her illness hangs over her heavily.

Skills and Talents:
  • A talented singer.
  • An actress at heart, but rather than taking to the stage she prefers to employ her ability in day to day life for her own benefit.
  • A healthy amount of pessimism makes her wary of trickery.

Equipment:
  • A flick knife.
  • General accoutrements, nothing stand out bar the knife.

History (brief): Sabrina has had an average life. She went through school with mediocre or low grades in her subjects, and came out the other end as soon as it was no longer compulsory. She isn't academically talented, but had hoped that her voice might get her somewhere. Well, it has. It earns her a top-up to her wages, working nights at clubs and bars, but no further. She works as a cleaner in a hotel for her day job. One thing about her life does stand out, however. At the age of 21 she was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (a shocking rarity for a young individual), and her prognosis is not favourable at present. She keeps this fact from her colleagues and friends, as the disease is not highly symptomatic. Her doctor believes she will not last the year.

So begins...

"No means no, Jason ..."

Two young people were stood by a table in the coffee shop; one a girl appearing in her early twenties, a crown of glossy deep red hair running down her back. She wore a thick coat and a scarf - the cold weather outside requiring such measures - and had her arms folded. She was directing a baleful glare at a young man who stood opposite her, who looked to be more in his mid-twenties, head shaved and a tattoo upon his neck.

"Sabrina! Come on, girl, what've I gotta do?"

"I think you should leave, Jason."

"What? No! You can't just .. reject me like this! I won't let you!" The man's face curled up in anger mixed with despair, and he lifted a hand to grab onto the girl's wrist.

"Get off of me!" Sabrina yelled, trying to little avail to pull away from the stronger man. "Let go!"

"We're going home." he growled.

"Like hell! Get the fuck off!" The girl turned her attention to the other occupants of the shop, "Help!"

At Arthur's approach, the skin-headed man turned to glare at him angrily. His eyes went from Arthur to Tora to the other bystanders -- the entire focus of the coffee shop was on him now, and he knew that if he lost it he'd have a lot more than attention on him.

"Fuck it." he growled, throwing Sabrina's hand down and shoving past Arthur to make for the door angrily.

As he left, Sabrina sighed to herself, rubbing her wrist. She looked up to Arthur and smiled faintly. "Thanks." she said, "He's had too much to drink. I'm sure he'll be suitably embarrassed at work tomorrow ..."

The redhead shook her head. "Hi, by the way. I'm Sabrina."

"Hotel door guard." Sabrina said, rolling her eyes. "You'd think with the posh uniform he'd have some class, but sadly no ... And we came here from the pub. Work get-together."

The redhead smiled to Tora as well, "Nice to meet you two, Art, Tora." she said, moving a hand up to slide her scarf off -- it was warm inside, after all. "I'm fine, thanks. The concern is appreciated though."

"I was actually just leaving." Sabrina said, shaking her head, "I have an early start tomorrow. I should get home. Thanks again, for the help. Maybe we could meet up again some time and chat properly, when I have more time to."

The redhead smiled, "So I guess I'll see you around. Thanks again, again." she said, before turning and heading for the door.

"Michael?" a woman's voice queried, "Is that you? It is!"

Soon the voice had a face put to it, as a woman with startlingly red hair stepped into view from the flow of the crowd. Pale skin and a general look of fragility contrasted sharply with a mischievous glint to her eyes, though behind that, on closer examination there was a look of fatigue to her.

"And there was me thinking you weren't on the dating scene for the time being! You never tell me anything!" she exclaimed, folding her arms with a frown. As if remembering something, the woman paused to glance over her shoulder at a pair of other young women standing nearby. "You two wanna go inside and grab drinks, or go on without me? I might be a while. I have a Michael plus boyfriend to harass for a bit."

The two other girls exchanged amused glances and laughs and opted to go inside the cafe. Once they disappeared from view, Sabrina extended a demanding hand towards Iante, one eyebrow raised. "I'm Sabrina, Michael's friend since school. And you are?"

However Sabrina made a simple introduction sound like an inquisition was must have been a trade secret.

"Hm." Sabrina made a non-committal noise and eyed Iante. "I like the hair. Quite narrow shouldered, though, seems a little weedy. Pretty, mind, and seems polite. A training day? So he has a stable job, too."

Sabrina looked over to Michael. "Not bad. Okay! I approve." she said, nodding solemnly. The effect was spoiled a few seconds later as the redhead cracked a grin and shook Iante's hand enthusiastically, "Nice to meet you, Iante! You have no idea how pleased I actually am to meet you. I've been prodding Michael for - what, a year? At least a year - to find someone, to no avail! About time he got his act together."

Sabrina slid out a chair and took a seat at the table, uninvited, taking Michael's coffee and knocking back a swig. "So... what stage are you at? I'll guess second date? Knowing Michael, you've probably already had sex, but I couldn't say for sure. You won't have met families yet, and I'm assuming I'm the first of Michael's friends you've met. Not all of them are as bad as me, as a reassurance."

"Definitely weedy. Meek too, but in such a way that it's cute rather than annoying. Sorry, I'll stop doing that now -- sounds like fun!" Sabrina smiled, "I definitely like you so far, which is a plus. I don't like many men, even the gay ones."

The redhead relaxed back in her chair and crossed her legs, "I'll save the quizzing for later, Michael, to save you both the awkwardness of recounting whatever -- and I don't mean the sex, I'm perfectly happy to gloss over that part, I'm not one of those creepy girls who's all creepy obsessed over that. They're creepy. But anyway, how are things going for you two? Any plans for today? Me and the girls were just going shopping, not that I have any money to spend, but I tag along for the conversation."

"Aw, you're cute when you're trying to defend yourself. More points." Sabrina smirked, "A movie, huh? If we decide to go, I'll be sure to sit near the front, leave you two to snog at the back. That's the problem with going on a date to the cinema, you end up missing half the film..."

Sabrina shrugged. "But hey, those days are past pour moi. You two have your fun. Any other plans? I'm just curious, mind, feel free to not say. I mean, I don't need to know who's house you're going back to, etcetera..."

"Oh." Sabrina said, "Oh! No, don't worry. That's fine. I understand. I'll leave you two to... whatever. Do things that a self respecting young woman would have no interest in observing."

The redhead raised herself from her seat, shaking her head, "Sorry. I'll get to know you another time, Iante. Bye now!" Sabrina waved her friends back over from a nearby table and together the group began to make their way away, after she offered a final wave to the couple.

A few moments later, however, and a call came from across the square. "Oh!" Sabrina yelled "And don't forget to use protection!"

Ha. That'd teach them to cut her out!

Ignoring whatever inanity surrounded the ... goblin things, a young woman pushed the door of the bar open. Long, startlingly red hair fell over her shoulders and cascaded down over her chest and back, and sharp green eyes scanned the bar for anything particularly hazardous before she proceeded inside.

Clad in a heavy winter coat, gloves, boots and hat around a pair of simple blue jeans, the new arrival was obviously well prepared for the cold winter weather that frosted the pavement outside, and made driving hazardous.

Making her way to the counter, Sabrina Dijkstra slid onto a stool, waving the bartender over to order a glass of brandy. As the drink was made, she shed her outer layers, including her coat, as the warmth of the bar began to make them rather too much.

Sabrina Dijkstra glanced to the side at Virgil, raising an eyebrow. "What, did you think this was Oz or something?" she asked, slightly mockingly. "This is a city. Of course there are gonna be bloody humans in it."

The girl leant sideways onto the counter, taking a sip of her brandy and brushing her hair backwards. Beneath the coat she had removed she wore a simple chequered red shirt over a tee, a lone silver necklace with a cross on it hanging on her neck.

"I dunno. Plenty of us around." Sabrina shrugged, "The smart ones avoid this dump though."

Sabrina didn't clarify why she was here, if the 'smart ones' avoided it, and didn't intend to. The long and short of it was, she didn't really have all that much to lose.

"So what's your name, stranger?"

"Are you drunk?" Sabrina raised an eyebrow, "You certainly sound it."

The redhead smirked, leaning one elbow against the counter and propping herself up. "I'm Sabrina. Nice to meet you, and all, I suppose. What brings you here aside from the obvious, getting drunk notion?"

Sabrina raised an eyebrow, "Well as far as arrivals go that is pretty odd... it happens, though. I was born here, lived here all my life. You'd be surprised how often we get people like you just appearing. Some of them stay, some of them work their ways back home."

Sabrina shrugged, "There's an airline that goes to mainland USA, and some portals, at the spaceport. Just in case you were looking to get home, or anything. The atmosphere of a 'magic' city isn't for everyone."

"Trust me. I've flown on it before." Sabrina said, rolling her eyes, "I live here, I think I know more about this city than you do. If that sort of space travel doesn't exist, then I suppose the galaxy-wide space empires don't either? I think even America's had run ins with UCON and the Aschen. They're a common sight around here. It's called a spaceport for a reason, but don't think you can just hop on. You need papers."

Sabrina shook her head, "Anyway, I'm arguing with a drunk. If you want to stay, then that's your call. I like it here, even if it is a little dangerous. So's any city, really. You're just more likely to get katana'd or fireballed, rather than shanked or shot..."

"I guess there must be a bunch of Earths, now that you mention it." Sabrina shrugged, "It makes sense, in as much as anything does around here."

The redhead toyed with a strand of her hair idly as she spoke, yawning faintly. "And sorry, I didn't mean to offend by the 'drunk' comment. I just say things, you know?"

"Oh, for fuck's sake."

After sitting in a booth next to Vampiric-Rage and Tear Hitsuki, Sabrina had had enough. "Will you two stop talking openly about your disgusting little sex life." she exclaimed, standing up and turning around to face them over the back of her seat. "I think I speak for most of this damn bar when I say shut up and talk about your private life in private. We can all hear you."

"I would do, believe me I would do, but that's quite hard when you're not even trying to keep your voices down. It's like being slapped in the face repeatedly with a fucking sex toy it's that blatant!" Sabrina groaned, tugging on her hair. "I really wish I could tune you out! I've been trying to for the last half an hour! Do you think I enjoy hearing a furry and a corpse talking about what they get up to in the sack? Because I don't!"

"Freedom of speech? Sure! Sure! Right up until the point that freedom of speech turns into public indecency." Sabrina shook her head in disbelief, "Do you have absolutely no idea of how ridiculous you're sounding right now? You might as well strip off and start getting it on right here! I'm sure there are laws against that, but I don't think it could possibly make it any more disturbing than it already is."

Sabrina rolled her eyes, "Earplugs! For sure! Because I always carry earplugs around just in case some slut and her twenty thousand year old boyfriend decide to have a shout out about what goes where and what they're generally wearing at the time!"

"Oh, my bad!" Sabrina exclaimed, "I didn't realise that you suffered from the chronic inability to tell when someone's exaggerating for effect! Tell me, is sex something you expect people to talk about in normal tones in a public place? Maybe you might whisper a slightly inappropriate comment to your partner at a well-timed moment, but you don't go about like you're sitting at home without anyone with a pair of ears on them to be seen!" Sabrina shook her head, "I couldn't care less how old he is! Six thousand, twenty thousand, two million -- it's irrelevant to the fact that I don't want to hear about where he puts his crusty, half-mummified self every night!"

Sabrina laugghed, "Horny fangirl? I don't think anyone could 'ship you two even if they managed to find the hanging of Saddam Hussein erotic! Really, if it had taken effort to listen, I wouldn't care! But you're talking about it as if you're reciting off your grocery list!"

"Oh, sure! Drop the 'my parents are dead' bomb! Want to trade bombs? I have cancer! I'll be dead in a few months whatever! But you know what? I feel more fucking alive right now than I have in a long time. It feels good to let it aaall out, and on someone who deserves it no less! Rage, isn't it? Yeah, I recognise you. I watch the fucking news, I read the papers -- I hear people talking, no less! You've made it big, man, proper big! You're a household name!"

Sabrina laughed, "If it were just this one time, getting a bit too loud, then I'd be cool! But come on, practically every time you're in here something happens. Remember the black hole? I remember the black hole. I'm not even sure how that's possible, but seems like you are! News guy sure was confused talking about that one! I swear, if there's ten people in this city who aren't talking about you behind your back, I've not met 'em!"

Shaking her head and folding her arms with a smirk, Sabrina snorted. "So go ahead! Get loud! I assume that's a threat, right? Kill me! I won't last long anyway, I'm defenceless and I'm tired of keeping quiet. It'd be like kicking a puppy! But I guess you already shag a dog, so you wouldn't care!"

"Yay! Let's all wave our angst about like it's the fucking fete de angst! Carnivale! Bring yours, show it off! See who's is biggest! I can guarantee that one of you or the little harem of self-righteous sluts you hang around with will win! Grand prize? Everyone hates you! But I guess you're one step ahead of us on that front!" Sabrina rolled her eyes.

"I wonder what else is conveniently accepted in whatever realm you come from! Anything that anyone in the right mind wouldn't accept? I bet that everything works out just great for you there - oh, apart from the necessary unbelievable shit to make you just that bit more tragic than you already are! I cry a river for you!"

Snorting, the redhead shook her head. "At this point, Vampiric-Rage, I couldn't care less whether you take on the prim-and-proper guise of a governess or whether you whip it out and do the fucking macarana on a table! There's so much more than talking a little too loud about sex that you have to answer for -- I wonder how many people can claim some kind of justified resentment for you? Think it's in the dozens? Hundreds? But you just don't understand! If they hold a grudge longer than a week, if they don't flock to you and make amends with whatever petty offering of reconciliation you put forward - you know, if you even know what the word means - then obviously they're doing something wrong!"

"Haven't I heard you say something like that to a chick you tried to murder? Or maybe I heard someone else complaining about that -- you know, both are equally good sources of information for what you manage to get up to. It's like the background noise of Terra! Crickets in an awkward silence? Nah, someone bitching about Vampiric-Rage." Sabrina snorted.

"And of course, the wittiest response you can come up with is essentially to make a hand with your mouth and go 'nyeh nyeh nee nyeh nyeh' -- I know five year olds who can do better than that! I'm not exaggerating that time, just for your information. I know you find it hard to tell."

Sabrina couldn't give a toss what Schemez thought about her language - at this point, she was past the point of no return. "You're missing the point, kitty-cat," she said to Tear, "I've long since moved on from your disgusting sex life - I wonder if it counts as bestiality, by the way, that'd certainly give the courts a run for their money, telling you apart from an animal - and moved on to just generally saying what everyone else is thinking. So I don't think I'll buzz off, not till I've either lost my voice from shouting, or I've managed to get through to the thick lumps of bone you call heads!"

"Terribly sorry, ma'am, I'm taking a break from my general schedule of keeping my head down and taking a leaf from this guy's," here Sabrina thumbed over her shoulder at Rage, "Book, and generally making a fuckin' nuisance of myself. Surely you've heard of him? I'm pretty sure everyone has! He's like a celebrity!"

Sabrina burst out into laughter -- this was a good way to spend an evening, for sure -- and shook her head. "Yeah, you might have forgotten, so here's a reminder. I haven't seen you around for a while, you know? I just wanted to make sure you knew what you were getting yourself into. Public service and all! If enough people hate you, it's only in your own interests for someone to stand up and let you know!"

The redhead tossed her hair, "So by all means, head back to your home and do whatever it is you do with schoolgirl uniforms like a closet pedophile, we won't miss you!"

Sabrina glanced at Lirum, "I wonder when that happened? Any particular catalysts you can think of? Degenerate... generally bad for peoples' health and sanity?" Sabrina gave Vampiric-Rage a pointed look.
