Selmaina Kamarro leaned back in her chair, paying no heed to the goings-on around her. It was not her trip here, so she was familiar with the unspoken protocol. Don't ask, don't tell. It was relatively simple, and she didn't mind following it, especially since getting herself tangled in others business rarely ended happily.

With a sigh, she pulled out an old, leather-bound book and propped it up on the table, her eyes going slightly glazed as she began to read. The world shut out around her and her vision went slightly tunneled. Though Selmaina's ears twitched alertly, it was to sounds that only existed in the book. The outer world no longer existed, and it was in this state of vulnerability that she placed herself. Perhaps it was an unwise decision, but she no longer cared for wisdom, at least not for the negative effects it had so unkindly delivered of late.

The doors of Gambits were again pushed open, a slim hand curling as it felt the aged woodwork. It reamained there, still, for a moment before its owner crossed over the threshold. A tall woman entered the tavern, strangely seeming to carry the outside darkness with her.

She did not announce her presense in any way, merely pushed the door closed with an almost inaudible click and made her way across the floor to an ampty table. However, she did not manage to blend into her surroundings. Her wild beauty seemed inhuman, and her movements could be described as nothing less than predatorial. Even the way her long neck twitched as she flicked her ink-coloured ponytail over one shoulder had an unearthliness to it. Selmaina was aware of this, and did not raise her shocking, lupine-gold eyes to the other patrons as she sat in the corner, surrounded by shadowy silence

Selmaina's ears twitched at the sound of a canine snarl, her whipcord muscles suddenly going taut with unease. She did not fear for her own safety, however, the threat was still present.

In this moment of self-preservation, one could see the huntress in Selmaina. The way her muscles rippled under caramel-toned skin, the alertness that sparked in her intelligent gaze. Time and experience had honed her skills, and in this place of almost constant uncertainty, her senses flourished.

For a moment, Selmaina's eyes flicked upward and the shadows shifted restlessly as she looked at Death and Fate, two beings she had spent her life avoiding. Even now she danced with them in a deadly combat. But she could not look at them for long without a twisting hatred flaring up in her belly. Even the split second of contact caused her wine-coloured lips to curl over her teeth.

In an effort to calm herself, her attentions were directed on Ruby, fascinated by the wolfish form. It wasn't as if it was the first time Selmaina had seen such a thing, but it didn't prevent her from appreciating what she saw. Replacing what had almost been a snarl, a low crooning rumbled in her throat, the sound more honey-sweet than the most brilliant of musics. Had one been listening they would have made out words in a liquid-like language.

"Nan'tela moi Lankin." [/i}

Selmaina Kamarro did not intervene with the goings on, as it was not her affair, though she itched to spring forward. It was not out of pity, nor out of a noble need to aid others, but inside her the Beast itched for blood. Her muscles twitched and her eyes became guarded as her hands curled around the table in an effort to stay put.

Despite this angry craving, though, she managed sympathy for the wolf. She looked at it again, and her song-like words again made there way to its rage-lowered ears.

"Hale Lankin...Hale."

The door to the tavern had not yet closed from Bellator's entrance before another figure slipped through the slowly thinning entryway. A cold wind seemed to follow the strange new patron, her entirely black-clad frame surprisingly fluid for one of her height. Selmaina did not seem to be hindered by her lankiness, instead making her movements graceful and decidedly predatory as she made her way to a dark and secluded alcove, seating herself with something of a flourish.

Selmaina arranged the tails of her duster in a dark pool around her, keeping her head down and a curtain of hair obscuring her features. Though she knew there was nothing yet to fear, it was still best to maintain her anonymity.
However...her delicate nostrils flared at the scent of drink, one in particular that was being delivered to a boy sitting at the counter. Her wolfish-yellow eyes narrowed and something that was almost a smile, but not quite, played about her lips. It seemed she may find an ally here after all.

Selmaina Kamarro looked up at the sound of clanking, her ears twitching and the slightest look of annoyance crossing over her shrouded features. Her narrowed eyes found their way to the source of her irritation, and some instinct within her stirred as she locked onto David MacMillan. One lip curled, her white and unusually sharp canines the only thing visible beneath the shadow of her duster's hood.
It was not often that Selmaina showed such disgust, and yet here it was, written plainly on her face. She quickly regained her mask of indifference and mentally scolded herself for such an outburst. If she wanted to remain unseen, such things were unacceptable.

Selmaina Kamarro shifted uncomfortably in her seat as she watched the fight between Mammon and his adversary. Part of her itched to join in, but there was no clear side for her to choose. The choice would have been easy once, but now the longing for chaos had all but replaced her sense of justice.
So, she simply kept herself in the status of indifferent observer, letting herself sink into the shadows and welcoming the clinging hold of darkness.

The doors opened, a cold wind flowing through the the tavern to accompany the figure that entered. She was tall, her figure slim and lean, although any feminine shape was hard to decipher from underneath the heavy trench-coat she wore. This was on purpose, as was the way she held her head that kept her black hair covering her face in a thick inky curtain.
As the woman moved towards an empty table, the darkness from outside seemed to cling to her, gripping her shoulders, pooling around her feet. Even as she sat against the wall, the shadows massed greedily around her, coating her until the only thing that showed were her strange, lupine-yellow eyes.

Selmaina Kamarro leaned back against the wall, letting out a sigh and closing her eyes. She had noticed the eyes on her, and had already located his position. He was seated at a piano, and had up until then been playing a delightful melody that cooled her fiery nerves.
Her wine-colored lips pulled into a slight smile, revealing that her canines and a few of her lower teeth were unusually sharp. It had been a while since she'd had the pleasure of being observed, and it wasn't hard to admit that she was feeling quite flattered. She obviously had no idea why he was watching her, but she was flattered nonetheless.

Selmaina Kamarro looked up, her eyes opening and some of the darkness peeling away from her face. Her smile widened, revealing several more wickedly sharp teeth, all of them quite white and straight. She pushed a strand of her ink-like hair out of her eyes and spoke, her voice low and musical, the sound like honey pouring over the air and curling around the listener.

The woman looked down at her hands, pretending to examine several scars that flashed under the little light that managed to touch her olive-colored skin.
"Well since I don't know what you are called, yes." Her yellow-gold eyes flicked up to his darkened face for a moment, "You smell...curious piano-man. What brought you over to me?"

Selmaina Kamarro laughed, resting her chin on one hand as she searched his face. "What I am? Don't I look...human to you?" The shadows around her shuddered and made a low sound that could be likened to laughter. Her expression became suddenly somber and her smile faded, "To be honest with you, I'm no longer certain. I used to know, but now...I'm something else entirely."

Selmaina Kamarro noticed the shift in accent, but said nothing. It was commonplace to keep one's identity masked, pointless because of all the conversation and revelations that took place here, but it was hard to find someone here who was completely honest about who they were.
She leaned forward on her elbows, her long slim hands folding in front of her, "Yes and no. I know some of what I am, but recent events have made it...difficult to decipher the rest." The darkness shifted, settling further forward on her shoulders, curling around her neck and latching to her collarbone. The woman's voice lowered to a musical whisper, "What I once was has become tainted."

Selmaina Kamarro inhaled, sensing that she hadn't exactly satisfied his curiosity, and rubbed at her temples. "It's difficult to explain but...one of my relatives made a very unwise deal, and he did not uphold his end of it. When the one who had gotten the short end of the stick came to collect, he found me..." she paused for a moment, unsure of how to continue. There was a quiet voice in her ear, blackness licking around the side of her face, and her eyes grew hard as flint.
"Long story short, I now belong to him as a result of a broken deal."

Selmaina Kamarro looked around at it, noticing that the rest of the room seemed brighter as all the shadows were drawn to her corner, massing around her, pulsing and writhing as though alive. The woman opened her hand and some of it bloomed in her palm, a tiny flower of black smoke. The sounds of whispering around her rose, the occasional laugh slipping through. Her voice was quiet as she answered, but something in it had changed, there was a note of mocking, a note of malice. "Yes, it is his mark upon me. They show that I am his, and they cling to me because of his...smell."
