It was curious, to the woman's notice, to see the ambulance drive down the street to the house that she had been targeting the whole time.

The woman, dressed all in black, let her white fingers run across the fur of her hoodie, and pull it lower over her face. Among all the commotion, she crossed the street confidently, her shoes mostly silent.

In the alleyways, an abundance of reflected lights...eyes...all of them eyes...white, red, and yellow...stared at her back. And, feeling them on her, she smiled.

She walked right up to Anodyne, tilting her head.

"My. Is this what the Invicta are composed of now?"

"Mmm. I see." said Shavi, clasping her hands. She reached a hand up to pat Anodyne's cheek. "Look at you! All grown up now!"

She smiled, once more, fondly, and looked to the others. "Who is the lead of the Invicta? Could you direct me to him?" She was eager to know...was it still in Alex's dear family?

She peered toward Edgar, scrutinizing him strictly with her eyes for a few moments. Who was this? What was he doing?

Shavi's very large, very green eyes snapped to Edgar. "It isn't right to tease, dear. Now, stop being rude." she scolded, just as an old grandmother would.

"You say...Fatin Alfarsi and Mary Munroe? Well, I should have a talk with them right away, then. There's no time to waste."

Shavi put her hand out toward Preston.

"I'm not sure if any of you would remember me, but my name is Jessamine Dyer. Alex Andros will know the name immediately, I'm sure. I wanted to see into joining the Invictus again. It's been too long."

"I'm sure...that will be of no trouble." said Shavi, a friendly lull to her voice. Clouds moved over the sky slowly. Black, foreboding clouds.

"Again. I had been a part of the Invictus a while ago. I'm afraid things did not work out, unfortunately, but I'm here for another chance. Is that so much to ask?"

Shavi did not seem to notice the tension among them, but the Invictus soldiers probably knew better. And she knew that they did.

"I do appreciate your willingness to help. I've been so out of touch that it could be described as painful. You see, becoming a member was...quite possibly...the best choice of my life." She fell in step right next to him, clasping her hands together in front of her.

"Of course, darling, of course." sang Shavi, walking in. Anodyne and Preston would probably not notice, but...there was a black carpet following them, and as the stepped into the room it dispersed and hid in the cracks, crevices, and hiding spaces of the complex, moving closer when they looked away.

"I do hope I didn't come at a bad time."

"Too nice to...hang...with the Invictus? Oh, dear." She patted the man on the back. Something...like dust or lint...crawled into the man's collar.

"Whatever makes you think that? Don't be silly, now. Bring me to this Fatin. I'm eager."

"Well, you have to have a certain charm. Don't take me for a poor little girl- I'm well aware what I'm getting myself into! Nothing will wear me down easily at all. Your concern, however, is touching."

She stepped out after Anodyne, following her. But before the doors to the elevator shut completely, Shavi would turn to look over her shoulder at Preston, her lips widening into a smirk as she gave him a small wink.

"Thank you, dear." said Shavi to Anodyne before looking up to Viktor. "And to you, too."

Not surprising, that she had to go through quite a lot of people just to find this Fatin. She looked at Anodyne. "Well, the group certainly has changed." she told her, as if Anodyne would know. "Lets see...I believe the living room might be here, correct?"

Shavi began to wander off, right where she was sure the living room was.

Shavi, having been called, walked down the stairs with a smug confidence. She decided not to take the elevator; it took far too much time that she did not wish to spend doing nothing.

She placed one slender, white hand on the door to push it open with a small whine before making her way to the group outside. She slid her black hood down as she approached them, giving them an award-winning smile filled with pearly white teeth.

"Might you be...Fatin Alfasi?" the woman asked, letting her ivy green eyes run up and down every inch of the woman. "I suspect you must be." She didn't even offer a glance to Nina or the other bodyguards.

"I am Shavi, a very old ex-member looking to rejoin."

"I'm sorry," apologized Shavi. "I'm afraid it's none of those mentioned. I am looking for a...well, so to speak...family, again. And a steady income. I had been with the Invicta- the Invictus- for such a long time that I feel it would only be the best choice. I am running from no one, nor am I planning to use you all for any dark or selfish gain. It has been so nice seeing you all grow up. Think of me as a grandmother who would like to move into the family again, if you will. Only, I'll not even be half as bothersome!" She clasped her hands in front of her, smiling at Stryfe again, and sweetly.

"I was an excellent member before. I can be twice that in the future."

Shavi was unfazed.

"I understand completely, Miss Alfasi. It is a shame that you think so lowly of me, but I do not blame you. After all, I was a member of the Invicta." Her grin widened. "And a part of the Invictus I am, now!" The woman squeaked in joy, then walked forward to wrap her arms around Stryfe.

"Thank you very much, Miss, I do appreciate it! You've managed to make me happier than I have been in countless years! Now, where are the papers for me to sign?"

"Shavi is a nickname, of sorts. My real name is Jessamine." she replied, reaching for the clipboard, where she took a pen and signed the very end. Was that it? She could have sworn there was more to it than that!

"And trust me, you're much like Alex was. He was very concerned for his members, as well. Such a good man. Ah...by the way, might you know where he is now? It's been...very long."

"Imagine...and witnessed alongside him," Shavi muttered under her breath, handing the clipboard back to the respective member that had given it to her. The signature was elegant and neat. The sign of someone who had gone to a good Victorian school when they were younger.

"Nina. Very nice to meet you." she told her, holding her hand out to the woman. "You'll find me a useful soldier. Of that I have no doubt."

"I've always encouraged women to break off from their husband's incessant commanding and find their own way, even very far back in the day. I used to run an industry in textiles when my own husband died, and I did so without any help from a male counterpart at all." she informed them both. "I can run a business. But that you both are in a position of power within the Invictus? Well, it makes me know that all my efforts to empower women weren't in vain, even if it didn't directly inspire any one of you."

She let her eyes drift, momentarily, to an alley behind them, before bringing those green orbs to their faces. "We can do more than fight and work. Oh, much, much more."

"What I mean is that we're good for much more. Charming and...even manipulating. It's an essential skill." she said, pointing to the alley.

There were a million yellow orbs facing them, still as statues. Simply staring.

"Manipulating, now...that's one of the best skills of all. It will not do simply to have someone be honest, especially if that person isn't very fond of you to begin with."

She flicked her wrist, then beckoned to herself. A few moans, groans, and cries echoed from the alley, and the shuffling of a few dozen feet followed the thoughtless zombies that crawled out of it, mouths agape, head leaned to the side as though they did not care to use their necks for support.

"Or people who don't know you at all."

"For a limited time. It's not as though they disagree, and they wake up very pleasantly." replied Shavi, who eventually heaved a sigh.

"They were all simply walking by. I don't doubt many of them don't have families to go to. But very well." With a snap of her fingers, the hoards of people suddenly stopped their wandering. A few of them blinked, others put their hands to their eyes, rubbing them, before looking around in bewilderment.

There must have been something else about the spell she cast, as everyone seemed to accept the reality of what was happening around them fairly easily and went on their way.

"See? No evil came of that."

"I've been living with this power for a long time. Intervention will never be needed. You'll come to figure that out soon." said Shavi.

"I will only do so on your command, or when under a threat." she then continued to inform the women. "I do not use this power on people I trust. I have a code. I have morals. I am not an evil person."

Shavi looked at the apartment behind her, then seemed to...shudder the slightest bit.

"Oh, please take me to the Palace!" she chirped. "I'll be much happier there. Expensive lodging always agreed with me."

"My, my, Johnny. You look just like your father."

The voice had come from behind the talking pair, low, warm, and motherly. The clack of high heeled boots echoed through the streets as a lithe, black-clad figure approached them.

"I don't think we've met before, but I can spot that face anywhere. You're just like him, too, going after the pretty girls."

The woman smiled to them both, her hands clasping together in front of her. "Oh, but I'm being rude. My name is Jessamine Dyer. An old friend of Alex's."

Shavi put her hand on her cheek, smiling at them kindly. "Oh, aren't you too sweet? You've got his manners, dear, you do."

She kept her distance from them, but she did not seem afraid. However, she was close enough for them to both see her face clearly. She was, by the definition of some, quite pretty. Clear skin, vibrant green eyes, hair black as night that tumbled down her shoulders in gentle curls. It was obvious; she took very great care in her appearance.

"I was not there from the very beginning, but I didn't join very long after." she informed them. "It is Johnny Izumi, I am correct, yes? And...who is this one?" She gestured to the redhead.

Shavi's smile twisted as Lochlyn approached them and as John spoke.

"Run? No, no, no, Johnny. You don't understand." she told him, turning to face Lochlyn and his men. For a moment, those green envys clouded over black as coal.

"I think you men would find your lives much easier if you were to turn the other way and leave us alone. Don't you?" she said to them, tilting her head to the side.

Shavi looked back at the two for a moment. "Hmph. Don't worry, this won't be any trouble at all."

"Now, now, boys. Come on." she coaxed the men, looking them all in the eye with her black wells. From underneath the car, an oily shadow quickly caught up to the men, and began to climb inside of their pant legs and crawl up to their spinal chords, where Shavi would then attempt to invade their minds.

First, the unusual, and sudden release of dopamine and endorphins to the brain, where the men would find themselves suddenly in a pleasant state.

Shavi was barely paying attention to Lochlyn's words, trying instead to make zombies of his men. It seemed the same thing wasn't happening to Lochlyn at all.

No matter.

Many of the synapses within the men's brains would suddenly become interrupted, putting them into a state similar to drunkenness, then into a half-vegetative hold. They would become silent. They would become still. Their heads would roll upon their necks.

That is, if everything had indeed gone so smoothly.

But it was just at this time that Shavi began to doubt her abilities. Were they going to work? Would she succeed?

"...that's strange."
