Shiroko

An apathetic human ninja. Highly skilled, easily bored, and has a soft spot for cats.

0 · 230 views · located in The Infinite Void

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by SleepyShadow

Description

Shiroko is a young man in his late twenties with pale skin, dark brown eyes, and premature white hair. His hair is long, and pulled back into a loose ponytail most of the time. He is muscular, though not heavily so, and he stands at about 5'11". He typically wears a tight fitting sleeveless black shirt, loose black pants, and soft black tabi. When on the job, he will don a black cloth mask to cover the lower half of his face, but when he is not working he will wear the mask around his neck like a kerchief.

Personality

Shiroko is fairly apathetic about most things. He views almost everything in his life with a degree of suspicion and boredom. He is soft spoken, but very tenacious once he sets his mind to something. He typically does not view things from a 'Good vs. Evil' spectrum, nor from a 'Law vs. Chaos' spectrum. He has worked for both sides of any given equation before, oftentimes simultaneously, and has found no side to hold significantly more value than any other side.

The hard-boiled ninja does have a tender spot for cats, kittens in particular. He absolutely adores cats, but does not keep one of his own. He plans on owning several cats in the future, but for now he chooses not to. Not that he doesn't want a cat, but they do shed quite a bit, and he doesn't want his black clothing ruined by cat hair.

History

Shiroko was born and raised a ninja. As a child, he knew nothing else. All of his immediate relatives were ninja, so he knew his path in life was almost set in stone. He grew up strong, quick, intelligent, and jaded to the world. For most of his adult life he has functioned as a ninja-for-hire, apathetically serving the highest bidder.

So begins...

Shiroko drummed his fingers on the counter impatiently, waiting for a bartender or waitress to take notice. However, he did glance over his shoulder suspiciously at hearing the phrase 'silly ninja'.

Shiroko approached Drakus boredly, having caught the gist of what was going on.
"I'll wager two thousand," he said.

Shiroko glanced at Kalum, smirking.
"You're kinda cocky aren't you," he chuckled.

Shiroko rolled his eyes, grunting in disgust at the blatant joke.
"You've clearly got a violent streak in you," he said calmly. "What drives you to seek entropy like that?"

Shiroko was not a magic ninja, and therefore shouldn't be detected by Gabriel's Magesense.
"Kid," he replied to Kalum, "you just said you were going to slit that guy's throat for giving you a rather minor insult. Seems pretty violent to me."

Shiroko shrugged his shoulders, seeing that service here was lousy.
"I've wasted enough time," he grumbled. "I guess I'll go hit Panda Express on my way back ..."

Shiroko entered the bar quietly and casually. He surveyed the bar patrons carefully, feigning disinterest in them as he made his way to the bar counter.

Shiroko nodded at her in a friendly manner, pulling his cloth mask down from his mouth, allowing it to hang loosely around his neck.
"Nice to meet you," he replied, his voice hoarse and gravelly from cigarette use.

Shiroko frowned irritably at her response as he pulled a packet of cigarettes from his pocket. He pulled one out and stuck it between his teeth.
"I didn't say I knew you," he grumbled as he offered her a cigarette.

Shiroko took a drag from his cigarette, savoring the taste. He then spoke to Ai.
"You can call me Shiroko, Miss," he replied after a long pause. "What's your name?"

Shiroko nodded in response to her question. Since he was technically still on the job, he had not bothered to change out of his ninja attire and into his street clothes.
"I hope that's not a problem," he smirked, blowing a ring of smoke. "What is your profession?"

Shiroko was beginning to grow interested, so he rose from his seat and moved down the bar, settling in the seat beside her.
"A match maker?" he asked curiously, snuffing out his cigarette in a nearby glass ashtray. "Do tell."

Shiroko arched a critical eyebrow at Ai, folding his arms over his chest.
"I hope you aren't implying what I think you are implying, child," he grumbled suspiciously.

Shiroko shot a furtive glance at the clock on the wall before looking back at her.
"You look about five years too young to be in here," he said. "I do hope you aren't some sort of Lolita."

Shiroko nodded slowly, thinking about what to say next. He knew he had to tread carefully.
"I'm not interested in enforcing rules," the ninja replied calmly. "However, I'm not interested in breaking them, either, child. So tell me, what are you doing here?"

Shiroko grumbled to himself as he flicked his lighter open, relighting his half-smoked cigarette. He took a drag from his cigarette, but was considerate enough to blow the smoke away from Ai.
"I didn't mean to offend you, Ai-chan," he said to her. "I'm just an old soul, I suppose. It worries me when chi ... when young ladies are in dangerous taverns by themselves."

Shiroko raised his eyebrows slightly in surprise at her question. The ninja was not used to young girls asking him that.
"How old am I?" he asked, trying to clarify her question. "I'm twenty-eight. Now, are you going to tell me how old you are, or do I need to guess?"

Shiroko furrowed his brow as he studied the girl before him, examining her face and body with a critical eye.
"I'd guess that you're about sixteen," he said before taking another drag from his cigarette. "How close am I?"

Shiroko shook his head in disagreement, snuffing the smoldering stub of the now-finished cigarette into the ashtray.
"I don't think anyone would mistake you for being that old, Ai-chan," he replied as he fished another cigarette out of his pack. "Messing around like that could land you in a whole lot of trouble."

Shiroko sighed deeply as he lit up his next cigarette. He had never been good at dealing with women in general, but the ninja was beginning to think that young girls were even harder to understand than their older counterparts.
"I didn't say you were messing around," he grumbled before clenching the fresh cigarette between his teeth. "You seem like a good person, Ai-chan. I just know that some guys might not take 'no' for an answer, if you catch my drift. I would hate to see you get hurt."

Shiroko began to grind the butt of his cigarette between his teeth. This girl was starting to irritate him. He shows some concern for a fellow human being, and he gets mocked for it? It was this sort of behavior that let him sleep at night after slitting some poor sap's throat.
"Look, Ai-chan," he sighed, trying to suppress his anger, "first of all, I never implied that you were clueless. Secondly, is it wrong for me to show some compassion? Some depth of feeling? Not all ninja are heartless killers. We're people, too."

Shiroko grumbled incoherently as he rose from his seat, his cigarette firmly wedged between his teeth.
"I'll not stay here to be mocked by a child such as you," he retorted sharply. "However, I will do the honor of satisfying your curiosity before I leave."
He glared down at her, but his gaze slowly softened.
"You remind me of my younger sister," he said to her.
