Sol and Ebony

A pair of lovestruck priestesses whose power is greatest when united.

0 · 402 views · located in Atargatis Lake

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by lilyWhite

Description

Sol has long blonde hair, wavy and loose down her back and past her waist, with a ribbon tied atop her head. She wears an elegant white and gold dress. Her eyes are dark blue.

Ebony's hair is dark-blue, hanging in a ponytail reaching to the middle of her back. Her dress is dark-blue and she wears various moon-shaped trinkets. Her eyes are a shade of gold.

Personality

Sol is a warm, compassionate person. She is very inviting towards others and will happily speak to others if they show interest in her. Sol is openly passionate about all she cares for and takes pleasure in challenges of power, although she rarely tries to permanently harm others who do not deserve it. Sol's magic focuses on offense and restoration, either unleashing powerful attacks on enemies or healing allies.

Ebony tends to be shy, but isn't cold towards others and can open up to others once Sol has introduced them to her. Ebony is more serene and peaceful than Sol, preferring to keep her emotions beneath a calm exterior and focusing on aiding the weak in battle. Ebony's magic affects the ability of the body, mind, and soul to function - she can enhance her allies' strength or leave her enemies unable to fight back.

History

Sol and Ebony come from two very different backgrounds. Sol was a young peasant girl born in a small village, seen as a blessed child for her beauty and luck. Every decade, a child was sacrificed to the gods of the villagers, and Sol was chosen as a sacrifice, the villagers believing that her blessed nature would bring them good fortune. Before she could be killed, monks assaulted the village and rescued her from her fate, training her to utilize the magical essences of the sun which she showed immense potential in.

Ebony came from a wealthy city where dark magic flourished under strict control by the monarchy. Ebony was trained in the art of lunar magic, drawing energy from the moon, from a very young age. When dark beings were accidentally summoned by inexperienced mages, Ebony's parents sent her away to her relatives' home so that she could continue her training; she never learned if her parents had survived fending off the demons.

Many years later, the monks took Sol to find a student of lunar magic so that Sol and the student could replace the current priests of the sun and moon. Ebony was surprised to hear that the monks considered her worthy, and although nervous when she left her new home, Sol promised to help Ebony adapt to living at the monks' temple.

As the years passed, both Sol and Ebony's magics grew much stronger. The monks suspected the cause was their proximity to each other's powers. That was part of it, along with the growing bond between the two girls. Sol and Ebony found themselves falling in love, and the monks supported their relationship all the way until their appointment as priestesses of sun and moon, knowing that it amplified their powers considerably.

So begins...

The surface of the water was near for Ebony and the water began to become more shallow. The girl was coming upon the floor of the room where Ry’nn and she had first entered into the water. It was only a few feet away.

The naga seemed to have abandoned Ebony as the flashes of light become more brilliant and more frequent. They were no longer chasing her but attempting to fight off an unknown source of threat. If Ebony had taken the time to look back, she’d see a figure between the flares of red light surrounded by a horde of naga. Some were floating free as if dead and some were binding their hands and tails around the figure.

Her hand continued to thrash out in front of her until it struck the hard floor marking the shallow water that they had entered into the water through. She used the last of her strength to fling herself out of the water, splashing out from below the surface to take a huge gulp of air. She placed the Water Stone on the dry floor in front of her before pulling her body out, weighed down by her soaked dress. Now she understood why Ry'nn hadn't worn her robe...

"Ry'nn!" Ebony gasped, glancing behind her for just a second. Her eyes widened at the sight of the flashes and the seemingly-slain naga floating on the surface. There was a figure beneath the water--was that Ry'nn? She wanted to hurry back under, try to help the woman, but she was exhausted, completely spent and thirsting for oxygen. She lowered her eyes to the Water Stone, holding it in both hands and shaking as she tried to gather the strength to lift herself off of the floor.

The water went dark and nothing stirred on the surface. It was just as tranquil as it had appeared when they first entered the room. All was quiet and Ebony was left alone. The stone urged the girl to grab it up again and to run. The tower was not a safe place and it was unforgiving. Ebony was the first person to ever retrieve a stone and still live since it was erected thousands of years ago by Those Who No Longer Roam.

There was no other choice but for Ebony to leave and to ride the griffon back down to the earth; to leave. Ry’nn was nowhere to be seen with no signs of life beneath the water. The woman may very well have perished in order to save Ebony’s life.

And it was all for the stone …

Ebony sat still, watching the still surface of the water. After a few seconds, she looked at the Water Stone, then back towards the water. "Why I am destined for this?" she asked herself, finally pulling herself to her feet. "A priestess of the moon in a world where the sun always shines... why would I have been called here? How can I do anything...?"

Lifting the Water Stone, she started away from the water. She wondered if Ry'nn was truly dead, if the woman had given her life for Ebony to obtain the stone. If so, Ebony doubted that her sacrifice would mean anything. She hadn't been able to even defend herself against the creatures--how could she fight on this "Mother Gaia's" behalf?

She remembered the griffon; as she exited the interior of the tower, she hoped that the beast still remained--and that it wouldn't be hostile without Ry'nn's presence.

Her hands holding the Water Stone tightly, Ebony stared at the shining sun. She couldn't help but to think about Ry'nn, hoping that the woman had managed to escape... somehow. Then again, Ebony didn't know how she herself had managed to survive the creatures of that Tower.

Her head hung low as she wondered why she had been chosen, what good her powers were going to do in this place... why her life was worth more than the woman who knew so much more about this world and held so much more power.

Ebony soon grew tired of walking, letting her legs give beneath her and tumbling down onto her side in the thick grass. She thought that a snake might strike at her, but remembered that snakes in tall grass were from her world, and that this place might not even have such creatures. A heavy sigh left her lips as she looked around her, wondering if any predators stalked these plains.

Her eyes set upon a figure walking along, wielding a spear chained to his hand. Ebony would have called out, but she knew little of this world's inhabitants. This man could very well be a ruthless marauder, searching for whatever meat he could find--whatever it was. He could be hunting for her, seeking the blue glowing stone that she carried. Or perhaps he was another one of Gaia's champions or a warrior of this world, someone who could help her find her way, help her against the struggles that would come.

She decided that it was better than travelling alone. Raising herself out of the grass, leaving the Water Stone hidden, she called out to the figure. "Hello? Are you from this place?"

The smile upon the person's face seemed genuine. It gave a little comfort to Ebony to see it, leading her to think that this man was not going to harm her. She bent down, lifting the Water Stone out of the grass. "Thank goodness," she said, shaking her head. I was scared that maybe you were a bandit or something..." Her head lowered. "I don't know where I'm going. This woman, Ry'nn, she took me to this tower made of glass or crystal, she... she took me to this stone, but I think she's dead. I think the monsters there killed her."

Ebony felt her eyes watering and cursed herself in her mind for showing such weakness. Still, she couldn't deny it. "My powers don't work in this place. I was barely able to escape that tower, I don't know what roams in this place, I'm not... from here." Taking a deep breath, she continued, "Do you know where there's somewhere safe? A settlement, a city? I was told that Gaia chose me, but I can't even defend myself."

Ebony frowned, taking a moment to wipe her eyes. She glanced at the newcomer, shaking her head. "I wouldn't know about 'juniper berries'... I'm not from this place." She wanted to admit being from another world, but didn't know if something like that was accepted where she found herself--or if the two would even believe her. She folded her arms around the Water Stone, sitting herself down in the grass and looking around her into the distance. Nothing of interest was in sight... the sun showed no signs of setting. Part of her wanted to ask the man who had approached them if he knew where she could go, but she couldn't bring herself to speak. She didn't know what she could say to make anything better.

Ebony looked up to the man, still frowning. "This woman, Ry'nn... she took me to this tower, to find this." She lifted the Water Stone, staring at the blue glow of it for a second. "But the monsters there attacked her, I don't think she made it. I barely made it myself..." Rubbing her forehead, she looked between the two men, then asked Mel, "Do you know where any settlements or cities are? Somewhere I can find something or someone to protect myself? I have magic, but with the sun... it's useless." She had to wonder again why Gaia "chose" her for whatever role she was to fill.

A small smile crossed Ebony's face. "A tavern... I'd appreciate it if you took me there, or to the city. I certainly don't want to go back to that tower, where those naga are." She recalled more about the tower itself. "There isn't a way in, actually. Ry'nn had to teleport us inside, I think." She wondered if it was Ry'nn's power or something else's will that allowed them to enter. Taking a deep breath to calm herself, she looked between the two men. "Is there anything dangerous in these parts? I don't think I'd be able to help fight like this."

Ebony almost leapt in fear at the sudden voice that came from behind. She turned around to see the archer standing there, almost dropping the Water Stone when she realized that the person wasn't hostile. Hearing him speak about Terra reminded Ebony of her own world, but while she knew it as a city, he seemed to speak of it as a land or another world... and the Terra she knew didn't have archers. "I don't think you are where you think you are," Ebony said sadly, shaking her head. "We're certainly not where I used to live, the place I called home."

She looked at the archer, wondering if he was one of those that Gaia chose. He seemed far more fit for any destiny in this place than Ebony felt she herself was.

Ebony nodded, looking at the impromptu gathering in the grass. "I'll come," she said. "I just hope nothing's out there..." She almost said her worries about something hunting the stone she carried, knowing only that it was valuable but not what its real purpose or power was.

She listened to the conversation between the archer and the elf, wondering if the archer's connection to someone in this world was the reason why he was here. She doubted it, but her mind had turned to every theory that came to her to explain what was going on.

Stepping into the tavern, Ebony had to wonder if the bedrooms had windows. She couldn't imagine sleeping in a sunny room. While she wanted to sit and speak with the others, her body was aching from her travels and her mind was exhausted. Looking around, she realized that she would probably be expected to pay for her room, yet she didn't have any of this world's currency. She decided to try to hide her weariness, try to stay alert and find out as much as she could about this world from the inhabitants.

Ebony listened to the elf. "I... don't have any money," she said nervously. "I'm afraid I can't pay for a room..." She would have loved to eat something, but didn't know exactly what the people in this world ate and if it would agree with her stomach.

Walking through the streets of this unfamiliar city, Ebony tightly held the Water Stone in her arms, paranoid that someone might try to steal it. It had to be important, but she wondered if many people in this world knew of its existence, let alone of its importance or appearance. Still, she doubted that carrying a magical stone through a populated city was inconspicuous in any way.

Keeping her eyes alert for both anyone who might be a threat and any exotic sights of this world, Ebony kept a steady pace down the walkway, not knowing where she should go now or who might be able to help her.

The sudden light startled Ebony, especially as it came close to her. Her eyes went to the gateway forming from dirt and debris, her mouth slowly growing wider in surprise at the sight. Watching the two figures step out, Ebony tightened her hold on the Water Stone. She could only think of Ry'nn's magic as she watched the portal from seemingly nowhere tumble away into nothingness, but Ry'nn didn't come out--it was another woman, and that man she had seen earlier.

Hearing the man's words, she asked, "This stone, isn't it?" She looked past the man, to the woman. "Are you with Ry'nn? Are you looking for this Stone? Does this have to do with Gaia?"

Watching the spear form, Ebony took a step back. She couldn't pry her eyes away from the weapon in the woman's hand, unable to think of anything but having the point driven painfully through her body. Her hands began to shake, cradling the Water Stone tight against her chest. "T-the stone?" she asked, staring at Sol. "It was in a tower... some magician, Ry'nn, she took me to the top with a griffin, opened a portal inside. There were monsters guarding it, they... I think they killed her..."

Ebony's eyes lowered, knowing that she couldn't defend herself then and she wouldn't be able to defend herself now. Her stare drifted over to the Precursor, hoping that he wouldn't let this woman do what she seemed intent on doing. "I don't know much about Ry'nn... she told me that I was called here by 'Mother Gaia', for my destiny. I don't know what I'm supposed to do here, I don't know where I'm supposed to go or what I'm supposed to fight."

" 'Colossi stones'?" Ebony didn't know if Ry'nn's words were worth trusting, but Ry'nn had helped her, seemingly sacrificed herself, just so Ebony could get this Water Stone. She wasn't willing to give it up that easily.

Without the spear to frighten her, Ebony tried to gather her confidence. This woman didn't seem interested in hurting her, and she wanted the stone--but why? "What can you tell me about this stone?" she asked the woman. "What is it for? How do I know if you or Ry'nn is telling the truth?" Ebony wondered if this woman would be able to return her home in exchange for the stone, but didn't want to abandon what she had learned so far. She glanced over to the Precursor, wondering why he was working with this woman... and if her alliance with her was more than what he thought of Ebony. She couldn't force herself to ask.

Ebony looked at the stone. Was that really what it was meant for? Was Ry'nn wrong about their purpose, or did she try to deceive her? Was this woman telling the truth? How could she be sure of what she was hearing?

"How do I know that's the truth?" she asked. "Who would want these 'Colossi' to return?" Looking over to the Precursor, Ebony asked, "Do you believe her? What did she tell you?"

Her eyes returned to the woman. "I just want to know why I'm in this world. Ry'nn told me that Mother Gaia summoned me. I don't know why I would have been summoned... my powers are useless here. Why wouldn't have Ry'nn or whoever summoned me here have found someone in this world instead if it wasn't important who found these 'Colossi Stones'?"

Ebony thought for a while. While the woman had told her much, neither she nor the man had given her any reason to believe that she was telling the truth. Still, if the stones were part of an evil plot... either she would be getting rid of this item that was surely a threat to her safety, or she might have been very well handing it over to an even greater danger.

Ebony could only think of one thing she wanted: to go home. Yet she knew that she couldn't leave this place if she were destined to alter the fate of this world; then again, it might even be for the best that she not mess everything up.

Finally, she made her decision. "If you help me find out why I'm here, why I was summoned here, and what did pull me here... then I'll give you the Water Stone."

Hearing the woman's name reminded Ebony of the Sol she knew from her own world. Perhaps this was a sign? Whether it was or not, it still reminded Ebony of how much she wanted to return to her home. "V... Very well," she said, deciding that she would side with this woman--for now. "I don't know if Ry'nn still lives... the monsters in the Crystal Tower attacked her, she didn't come out. How will I be able to find Ry'nn? I doubt she would come along if she knew that I was acting against her plans... I don't have enough power to fight her. If she still lives." She felt guilty about turning on Ry'nn, especially if she had really sacrificed herself for Ebony to get the Water Stone on behalf of Mother Gaia.

Ebony watched the two walk into the building. She considered whether or not she should stay with them, knowing that if Ry'nn was at the Tower, she would know that Ebony had turned against her plans. But still, Ebony realized that she had little means of defending herself and that these two seemed suitable warriors.

Looking around in the street around her, Ebony let out a heavy sigh and followed after the two. She could only hope that she was making the right choice... and that she wouldn't have to come across Ry'nn again.

Ebony lifted her head from her pillow, staring at the image of Sol. Her eyes widened, taking hold of the Water Stone that she had kept at her side while she slept. It couldn't be... she knew it was trying to deceive her, trick her. Yet the Water Stone wanted her to go...

She might have done as the illusion had asked had it not taken a form that was so dear to her. "Why do you look like her?" she asked angrily, in a hushed voice. "What do you want me for?" This only led more credence to the other Sol's words that the stones were evil.

Ebony wanted to reach out, thinking that this was all a dream and that when she took hold of the hand, she would awaken back in her world holding the real Sol's hand. She shook her head, staring at the floor away from the illusion. "I would have preferred if... if you didn't take the form of someone I missed so much." She tossed the sheets off of her. "What do you want? 'Bearer'... are you some sort of spirit of the Water Stone? Are these stones really instruments of the 'Colossi'? I'm not going to do anything with this until I'm absolutely sure of everyone's intentions with it..."

Ebony thought about it for a second. She imagined that the Sol from this world would be ready to kill her if she knew that Ebony was following the Stone's directions, but part of her felt that this world of eternal sunlight was unnatural, wrong. Perhaps this world needed night after all... Ebony knew that she didn't care for the constant sunshine.

Sliding to the edge of her bed, she nodded. "Very well. What do you need from me?" She held out her hand towards the image of her love, biting her lip and hoping that its reasons for taking her appearance were truly to comfort Ebony and not to trick her.
