The suns were shining in the sky and the waves beat against the shores with Mother Gaia’s breathing. The waves were particularly violent that day, emerald crashing on the golden sand almost angrily. Storm clouds were seen in the far distances and an energy was gathering in order to unleash its fury on Siv’en.

There came a manifestation of light near The Precursor. It traveled in front of him in recognition and then passed through him from his back out through his chest. It was a warm and familiar sensation. The light grew brighter and larger to where a sigil was formed in the middle. The sand around it began to swirl and rise to begin forming a structure.

As the sand continue to rise and harden, it was easily seen that a gateway was being built. The Precursor had seen such an event before but there was no telling if his memory would serve him well in recognizing it. The Gate fully formed with all its intricacies in design and the sigil came to hover in the middle of it.

The sigil began to fall away into pieces as if a rose were losing its petals. As soon as the first petal fell upon the sand, the light began to rise up again but this time it took physical form. Sol’s feet were first seen, small, dainty, and feminine. The light continued upwards and revealed her legs, torso, and finally the legendary woman’s face was unconcealed by distraction of light. The last wave of light fell down upon Sol’s crown and traveled down her frame to form her enchanted robes.

A smile spread across the woman’s face and she merely stood there as the gate began to fall away back into nothing more than sand. Sol’s lips formed words as she said The Precursor’s true name but no sound came. It was lost in the gale of wind that had picked up due to the coming storm.

Her bare feet padded along the shore and Sol came to stand before The Precursor with that gentle smile still on her face.

“It is good to see you again.”

The smile faded from Sol’s fair features as The Precursor began to speak. He did not remember anything and it was saddening for the woman. Her eyes left his and looked across the sea so that he would not see the sorrow that rested in them.

“Gaia is in trouble once more,” she said in a mystical tone, “The Colossi will be released after we sealed them thousands of years ago. The world has changed but only because we have been gone so long. This is Gaia but not as we remember it. Humans have changed it along with the other races. Civilization is growing rapidly and many towns and cities have been formed. And it is all because of you that life on Gaia was able to even start …”

Memories of the war played through Sol’s mind and she held her hair in one hand to stop it from whipping around her face.

“It is your choice to be part in this or not. It has always been your choice,” Sol said while turning her gaze over to him again. “Mother Gaia never forced you to do anything, you chose to defeat the Colossi yourself.”

“There is something posing as the Mother and offering stones to people. They are the Colossi stones under the guise of Gaia Stones,” Sol revealed and her face held an expression of deep concern.

“We must stop them before they get the weapons and reach The End of the World. The paths to the Colossi cannot be opened,” Sol said before bending over and picking up a glittering sea shell.

“We both know what will come if they are freed.”

The Gate Keeper made no hesitation in thought after The Precursor suggested that she come with him. Her heart swelled when he made the offhand comment as if it meant nothing to him. Her smile had come back but only a fraction of what it had been earlier.

“I will go with you to The End of the World if need be,” Sol said, “I can teach you what has happened to the Mother since you’re sleep from the world.” Sol stepped to The Precursor’s side and looked over his shoulder from behind the man. She pointed towards the Exalted Mountains and soft softly near his ear.

“The mountains were not there before. That is the remains of Ni’thorne, the Earth Colossi. They call them the Exalted Mountains now because he still resists against his bindings and pieces of the Colossi float.”

“And over there,” Sol spoke while pointing south and then westerly, “The Crystal Tower that we erected to protect the Colossi stones from the world and it still sits inside the Atargatis Lake that I made acidic.”

“And,” she continued, “The Golden Vale is all along here.” Her fingers opened up and she swept them along the image of the land before them away from the beach.

“We have to stop those who have the stones,” Sol said, “That is our task at hand. I feel … I feel as if we are already far behind and that some may already have the Binding Weapons that will cut the Colossi Chains.”

“We must find out who they are and kill them if necessary.” Little did Sol realize that stone bearers were good people with good intentions if only mislead by unsure knowledge. The Gate Keeper, The Precursor, and The Sentinel were the only ones with the true knowledge of the stone’s origins.

Sol’s eyes swept over to his but for a second and then the woman retreated away from The Precursor, swiftly.

“I have always followed you,” Sol said before holding out a hand for him to take, “Do not doubt your leadership.” The sigil from earlier formed above the woman and the gate behind her began to form once again. They were going to travel back to Skyfall Citadel in order to meet this woman who carried a stone and a Gate was the fastest way.

Thunder rolled in the distance and the skies darkened even more before flashing of lightning caused turmoil. The storm was coming and it would hit the shore soon.

Dust and dirt whirled around in an alley way between two tall and prominent buildings. A gust of wind pulled as much debris it could into the small passage. Then a light was seen zooming through the city and into the alley way. It passed directly in front of Ebony and almost through her.

The light grew larger and took the shape of a round sigil. The dust and dirt that had been gathered began to form an intricately designed gateway. The sigil began to break away and fall in the center of the construct and revealed two people, hand in hand, walking through it.

Sol released the man’s hand as soon as they had come through. The gate behind the woman started to collapse back into the natural litter it once had been, leaving a small pile.

Ry’nn. Sol did not recognize the name but she did recognize the stone in the girl’s hands. The Gate Keeper held her hand out to her side and a spear of rose-colored light began to shape into a long and deadly spear. While The Precursor knew that Ebony meant not harm, Sol did not and she would not let anything harm the man.

“Where did you get that stone,” Sol said while looking at the girl. She appeared harmless but in the land of Gaia, nothing was what it appeared. After all, they were in a city which was built atop a Colossi and the only two that knew such were the ones standing before Ebony.

“Who is Ry’nn?”

Sol was a patient woman and had listened to the explanation that was offered by Ebony. The woman sensed no deceit from the girl and had picked up on the signs of fear. The Gate Keeper looked to The Precursor and willed the spear away.

“The Crystal Tower is where the Colossi stones were kept, the stone in your hand,” Sol said while pointing to the stone which represented the water colossi bound in the Empyrean Sea.

“I can tell you one truth, girl. You were not summoned here by Mother Gaia. Whatever this Ry’nn has been telling you is false. Hand the stone over to me,” Sol said while reaching out with an upturned palm.

Sol stepped forward only so much so that she stood directly next to The Precursor. Her hand brushed against his and the woman held it there. It was such a small and feather light touch but it was enough for the Gate Keeper.

“The Colossi Stones are manifestations of the Colossi’s spirits or souls. That is a dangerous stone you hold in your hand. I cannot allow you to keep it. Maelstr knows that his spirit essence has been captured. Even now he stirs a great storm in the sea in excitement.”

“The Colossi are titanic creatures that constantly kept life from flourishing on Gaia. They ravaged our Mother in sheer pleasure of seeing its creatures die. Whoever wanted you to have that stone wants nothing more than for them to return and with their return, so does their father, Eras.”

“Those who wish to bring back Eras and destroy the world as we know it. Those are the individuals that would wish to awaken the Colossi once more, whether they realize the danger or not.”

“I do not know why you were brought here. I do not know what this Ry’nn plans to do with the Colossi Stones. He or She may very well seek the weapons that the Colossi forged under the guise of Those Who No Longer Roam.”

“You must give me the stone,” Sol stated while holding her hand out patiently, “Unless you wish to destroy our home.”

“That stone will not lay dormant for long. It will call on you and take you to where Maelstr’s weapon lays,” Sol stated while dropping her hand slowly. “When that happens, you must resist it to the best of your ability. I cannot guarantee that I will not attempt to kill you if you come back with Maelstr.” Sol’s words were honest and true. The unsettling way she stated them as fact in a calm and cool tone noted that she was dead set on not allowing the Colossi rise again.

“This girl has a tie to whomever this Ry’nn being is and so it will be her duty to seek her out,” Sol said in the same matter-of-fact tone. “You will bring her to us, do you understand?” The woman then passed a glance over to The Precursor and released a silent sigh.

The woman shook her head in protest. She was not about to leave The Precursor’s side now that they were together again. Sol had waited for thousands of years just to look upon the man’s face once more and now that she had the chance, she was not allowing him out of her sight.

“No. I will go with you. The child may come along as well if she wishes, but I will not spare her life is she comes into danger,” Sol stated, giving Ebony a glance over. The woman seemed cold but it was a shallow appearance. There were greater things at stake than a girl’s feelings. Sol was merely attempting to protect that which she loved most.

Sol turned after The Precursor and followed him into the building.

“Do you …” Sol started out as she watched the man known as Precursor finish his meal, “Do you have anymore questions about what has passed since Sagittae sent you into sleep?” Her voice was quiet and would be hard to pick out from the natural noise of the tavern.

The woman—a legend of her own kind—lifted up the pitcher and filled Syros’ cup once more. Her eyes scanned around the room and she noted the people that were present. She watched as a dwarf came to their table and spoke to Syros as if they recognized each other.

“Work. Work? He does not need to work,” Sol said setting her hands in her lap and clenching them into fists. Where had the respect for the Legendaries gone? Even she had to remind herself that this was a new age, a new era, where their names were nothing but myth and lore.

“The Goldenbridge Ward has books,” Sol said almost merrily but that soon died away as their names were asked. She doubted the dwarf would remember the ones that shaped the world as it was that day and even allowed the world to bloom. Syros and Sol had banished the Colossi titans and bound them so that they could no longer threaten the world with just their sheer size again. They were heros. They were legends. They were sitting in a tavern, unrecognized by anyone, and appearing as if some common working man.

“Solara Seigmund the Gate Keeper,” she said in a hopeless tone. Sol would allow Syros to offer his name or title before allowing her thoughts to drift off back to their current task. The stones needed to be collected and brought back to the tower.

“Perhaps another time,” Sol said before standing and placing gentle hands on Syros’ shoulders. “Let us get you a room. I can almost feel your exhaustion myself,” she whispered into his ear while her hair slide down his shoulder. It almost seemed that the woman was intimate with the man, as if she were not afraid to be near him and was comfortable with it, even, preferred it. Sol was always more calm when Syros was in proximity.

“I always worry about you,” she almost said but Sol held back the words and saved them for another time. It was too soon to bring up the topic of their relationship as Sol was beginning to pick up the signs that Syros did not remember.

Instead, the woman sighed and thanked the man before following after Syros. Now that they were back in each others company, the woman was not about to let him out of her sight. He may not have remembered her love for him, but being near Syros was enough for Sol after waiting thousands of years in the Nexus to see him again.

Hearing Syros suggest two beds was another stab into her heart. So, he had forgotten all of it. He had forgotten how she slept better hearing his heart beat and how it kept her nightmares at bay. But, Sol allowed it. Again, it was not the time as she did not want to overwhelm Syros.

“Two is fine …”
