Description

Given Name: Sukarma Lexicon

Race: Ship-Bonded emergent AI, descendant of the singularity Lexicon

Description: Sukarma's avatar is a 4'11" smooth-skinned female humanoid with a hair made of movable tentacles and a regenerative substrate skin similar to her armor that is pastel tan on white. Her face is quite human though her odd pupils are a side effect of the image of cuttlefish that inspired her mote to construct a body inside of Lexicon. While the ship doesn't share their camouflaged behavior her avatar does and with focus frequently color-coordinates her skin with her clothing. Her hands and do feet have 'fingernails' as they are shaped like a human's but they don't grow so frequently get painted some other color than tan. Sukarma otherwise prefers metal-based clothing as it doesn't degrade on exposure to hard-vacuum as she has a sense of modesty to go with the human parts she inherited by archetype.

The ship is shaped as an elongated cuttlefish nearly 60m long that has four large aft thruster module arms protruding from a shield skirt to allow for six-point movement by a pilot within. A skirt of smaller positional thrusters is along the dorsal and lateral sides on hardmounted arms. Two docking plates are underneath the lateral positional thrusters and the opening unfolds when the two boats are to dock. They end up flush against the surface mounted to the port along her inner reinforcement rib layer. The front has eight hollow reinforced module arms that splay at the ends to allow tools to be used at any point within their reach. At the center between the arms is a very large low light multispectral camera and sensor array that serves as the main sensor feed. The eye is inset slightly as several planes of a bulkhead can be deployed to shield it from damage. Though Sukarma is not built to regularly land on a gravity well she's capable of doing so and supporting her own prodigious weight along four thick heavy-substrate landing arms inside round ports on the ventral side of the ship. The boats are normally the ships that land on planets which have a similar shape and setup to her own main form if quite smaller at 10m.

Class: 2 port modular frigate

Boats: Construction and reclamation boat (Fulvio Sukarma) and Agile cargo fighter [Alkippe Sukarma]

Age: 8 (Declared age of majority by NASA after 2 years of service and positive Psych Eval)

Gender: Female

Eye color: grey (lead coating) with gold lens cover

Orginization: NASA Contractor, Dual citizenship: Aschen Citizen

Birthplace: Earth, California, Primary Lexicon node

Religion: Atheist

Identifying characteristics: Has an upgraded outer ablative layer on her avatar and the pattern on the top half is different from the lower half. Her avatar received severe burns at one point during the mars 1 rescue and the prototype material was improved. Fulvio's socket on her primary body has several parts branded with NASA's logo as it was damaged during the rescue attempt of the first manned mars mission.

Physical Condition: Excellent health. Built for deep space exploration she has a full multi-material weaver, Plasma reclamation unit, and adaptive manufacturing array to replace or service all her parts given materials

Update: Ashen genetic engineering altered her golden quinoa to additional productivity. The plant is now black as it absorbs a wider spectra and grows continuously as long as she has input material and water.

Languages: English, Spanish, Japanese can passively translate most major earth languages through a lexical module but not when the ECHO Ansible is disengaged. The results are frequently approximate at best due to the fringe connection of lexical modules.

Update: Can now translate into Ashen tongues

Former residence:Work site built from reclaimed satellites and orbital debris in proximity to ISS 2

Current residence: Exploratory, multiverse space.

Occupation: Space Explorer

Personality: A bubbly artistic sort she's driven to see new things with her crew. She's emotional and always attached to her crew as a whole. Their frequent need for privacy is often at odds with needing to see what she's doing when they interact with her systems or trigger security. Her mind simplifies when she doesn't have the free intellect to run her ECHO ansible coupled to Lexicon. Being too simple that the color drains out of her world renders the artist frequently irritable when laden with tasks.

Background: Developed in secret in Lexicon during the Mars 1 mission she was launched post-haste from a gauss launch facility to rescue the Mars 1 crew. The landing facility built had taken unrecoverable damage due to a storm and meteor strikes and would soon suffocate the inhabitants. NASA, caught unaware saw Sukarma's live video broadcast to the mars 1 crew and opted to begin working with Lexicon whom began contacting them to interface directly. Though the mission had its troubles the crew came back safely as heroes though Sukarma entered a period of government scrutiny. Lexicon, an entity and mother long since entered a fortified legal position before creating descendants, easily outgunned legal maneuvers to acquire Sukarma or herself as property. Sukarma, now an incorporated non-person as a subsidiary of Lexicon Incorporated, had her mother draw up a contract for NASA and the ESA so Sukarma could stay with her crew while preserving the rights of her sapient child. Military interests were placated with similar contracts that limited access to systems regulating autonomy or agency with capital agents that hadn't yet been born. NASA subsequently put Sukarma on leave while the agency worked out political interests for her future crew. After graduation from online-courses through college attended at the behest of the politicians to ignore her false identity her next mission to mars was a resounding success. After some modifications on her return launched for orbit once more. Thereafter that solo launch she's missing time and has significant ablative damage to her outer organic hull that she can't account for. With no idea where she is and without a crew the ECHO ansible is her and her ante-ships only comfort deep in foreign space.

Update: Encountered the aschen and agreed to assist leading them to their own planet if not hers. Currently exploring for suitable parts to engage in repairs.

Equipment:
    • Avatar
    • Medical kit - This has a small field effect unit to do minor surgeries or stitch wounds. It is by nature sterile in surface but lacks the size to fully sterilize the air around a wound when working. It comes with a smaller unit specifically for suturing small wounds and a stem cell burn sprayer to seal and heal burns. Sukarma doesn't know how to use the equipment for medicine just how to run the code inside it. Sukarma generally wears this in a modular backpack when her avatar is in the field.
    • Heavy gauss handgun - While Lexicon and Sukarma both objected to weaponry Sukarama acceded to requests by the military that she have a sidearm available in the field during NASA missions. Cerberus, Lexicon's sibling, built this handgun whose recoil and weight make it wholly unusable by unaided crew. It packs a signifigant punch with DU tipped ferrite projectiles and the recoil would spiral shatter the hand and arm of unaided humans even if they could find a way to employ the secure fire with a nonexistent manual trigger. This weapon is mounted internally in her chest cavity through an armored aperture in the back. Sukarma can shoot at things and has a ruggedized combat frame for her avatar to take the firing force but is nonetheless not a soldier.
    • 'Interrogator' FE density scanner - This density scanner was also designed by Cerberus, Lexicon's sibling, as a part of the combat frames. It attempts to manifest FE fields inside objects and measures the resistance to calculate apparent density at the manifesting point. While not perfect it enables Sukarma to glean possible information about the inside of objects or her environment despite complete darkness. It comes with its own risks from damaging sensitive electronics or explosives so Sukarma is careful about using it.
    • Self (ship)
    • Adaptive Magnetoplasma Engine - Sukarma's primary method of propulsion these modular engines are built to adapt to any source of viable fuel that can be made a useful plasma. Combined with the onboard reclamation unit that can preform basic chemical reactions this allows Sukarma to harvest fuel from nearly anywhere.
    • Crew Suits - These are powered exosuits with substrate that while incapable of regenerating are self-sealing. They have various abilities for Sukarama to facilitate communication and monitor crew health. Sukarma can make them resistance trainers to enable workouts of crew over time or power assist for moving large loads. Outside the ship the suits are mostly limited to offsetting their own weight and providing air filtration and/or life-support to the crewmembers wearing them. Inside the piloting pods or while moving at speed they allow Sukarma to adjust for G-Forces
    • False Gravity - While Sukarma does appear to have gravity it is more from field effect forces in a particular direction on all exposed surfaces. In human crew this abates the problems of microgravity on health but makes it difficult to cook. Most equipment is still designed to operate inside of microgravity.
    • Slip Drive - These are prototype transluminal engines that alter the reference frame of local space-time to enable the ship to slip forward along with the momentum in the channel of perturbed space. It takes a great deal of Sukarma's personal attention for them to operate and she cannot use her avatar while they are active. Her only experience with them showed that in their current state the altered reference frame sometimes exposes intellects in nearby realities while the engine is in motion. Unusual creatures wandering the halls or alternate intangible versions of her crew in faint shadows moving about the ship or even shadows speaking to their local selves.
    • Assorted science equipment - Sukarma was equipped by NASA according to Lexicon's interface schematics and wholly new versions of various expensive sensors were built to exist and operate inside an EI. Sukarma knows how to operate all their functions even if she doesn't know exactly what they do. Most of her instructions to test the devices they built didn't come with training.

Update: Much of the damaged equipment has been reclaimed into either usable parts or raw material.
    • Remanufacturing plant - Sukarma multi-material FE Weaver and various assemblies to process material and use it for repair or fuel. Nearly anything can be built here given time, material, and blueprints. Though she doesn't have any real engineering experience her entire ship comes with blueprints that have manufacturing instructions she can follow.
    • Regenerative superstructure - Sukarma's external surface is covered in a living engineered coating that is capable of basic thermoregulation and wholesale regeneration. It is threaded around reinforcement ribs throughout her structure and leaves the ship frame as flexible as flesh but hard as metal. The integrated field effect systems in the ribs allow for microscale movements of the substrate allowing a great deal of biomimicry for her armatures, landing gear, and internal manipulation systems. As this makes it possible to move objects through the fluid she can deploy armor scales on the outside surface if radiation is a concern but it makes the affected surface relatively immobile.
Limitations:
Sukarma's avatar and self doesn't have the equipment to digest complex fats or proteins to fuel her organic substrate. She primarily eats sugary food or simple drinks. Consuming any large amount of such things will make such pseudobiological systems malfunction and she can be poisoned to a limited degree. As such while she can easily survive a vacuum from internal supplies of what little oxygen it needs she still needs to eat and drink or her flesh will shrivel. The avatar itself is built to be rugged not agile so she isn't capable of terribly complex aerobatics even if she were well-trained.

Powers:
  • Limited camouflage - While Sukarma's main ship is locked to its navy blue on black coloration Sukarma can control her avatar's colors to a limited degree. While not to the same degree of patterns as the animal that inspired her creation in lexicon she can change her coloration to match her environment. Alternately if not composed strong emotions may affect it as well. This is a side effect of microscopic emitters buried in the networked substrate near the surface of her avatar's skin unlike the ship which uses armor scales or such variable macro-sized objects.
  • FE projector - Both the ship and her avatar can project FE manifolds to varying degrees of complexity from inside to a short range. Sukarma's main body has far more complexity and resilience but the avatar can also project fields of simple shapes and sizes. It is frequently used for shielding or minor manual tasks.
  • ECHO Ansible - As a near-instantaneous communicator this ansible allows for a bidirectional communication using an array of microscale wormholes projected along entangled targets. While extremely point-to-point and comparatively low-bandwidth to other options they are difficult to disrupt to an extreme degree. The minute size of the wormholes allows for data transfer with low aperture requirements and a low power consumption to maintain the wormholes themselves that otherwise increase in power requirements rapidly. Their minute size allows for a minimal increase in power cost based on distance but is computationally hard to maintain in the background of Sukarma's mind. Thus she must focus on it in the foreground using up precious executive processing time.

Stabilizing her core took some time as well as finding a nearby planet. The ansible wasn't stabilizing and her mind hurt she wanted something other than stars to look at. Not that they made any sense! The pulsar map didn't match any existing ones she could suss out with her small radio antenna. What did show up was a planet that might as well shout life! Excited at first contact she had Aklippe drop her off on this blue marble to record everything!

Without the working ansible to Lexicon to gird her EI Intellect or her crew it hadn't gone well at all. She managed to understand she was stuck there. Frustrated Sukarma wandered the streets to somewhere out of the way so she could think. Hiding up in the branches of a tree she realized as much burnt substrate as short term record damage. Problems like that needed fixing and soon before it caused system dissonance.

So after she wedged her avatar in a tree branch to drop into a shallow maintenance cycle. Humans usually didn't look up. No deep sleeping without an umbilicus a shallow patch would have to do. Lights dimmed as her core busies with checking random samples and optimizing memory structures. It was the closest an EI could get to dreams. Soothing at least until a loud bang shook her loose.

The falling didn't bother a basal node concerned with safety but the angry swearing did. One hard spike of critical code rams Sukarma's intellect into her avatar. Hurled through space across the core ansible then down a tree Sukarma broke from her dream. Halfway to the ground aware of too much down under a fusilade of angry she yelped loud skin turning fear black. She crawled to her feet and remembered being terrestrial to turn brown on green. Seconds later her slow mind realized the concrete she fractured which just made her more frustrated.

The small female clad in head-tentacles and brown mottle on green skin tracks down the yelling lady. Her dress a heavy aluminum chainmail backed by cable rattles loud when standing to return the yell.

"Stop shouting I need to sleep! I have to get home!", She yelled at the armored women who stood out.

Reyna got shocked out of her incredulous reverie when someone shouted at her to stop shouting in a language she somewhat recognized. Her first thought was to apologize, followed by some confusion. She was pretty sure she had stopped shouting already, hadn't she? Aside from that the statement itself didn't make much sense to her. Well, the 'Stop shouting' part did of course, but to her the 'I need sleep' and 'I have to get home' seemed to be unrelated sentences in her head. Maybe she had mistranslated?

Then again, judging by the tentacles on her head, she didn't seem to be of a species Reyna recognized. So the female might very well be a dream-dwelling species of sorts, or something of the like.

Well, at least she recognized the language the female spoke. It seemed to be an eastern dialect of the Rhamnic Empire. Reyna was by no means fluent in it, but she could get by. That left her with the following question: What should she say in response? An apology would probably be necessarily, followed by a greeting and some polite inquiring perhaps? Her mind raced to find the words she would need.

["I have apologies many"], she neutrally answered, albeit heavily accented, ["I finding myself all of a sudden and full of pain transposed into the new place here, and have problems many with these facts three."]

There, it was probably by no means a linguistic masterpiece, but cringe-worthy as it was, it should get her words across.

["Could your person, or other any, please answering questions some about the new place here?"], she continued with a pleading expression. ["I have hopelessly lost myself."]

She hoped this made up for the abysmal first impression, but didn't put all that much of said hope into that option, because admittedly she made a rather bad one. Hadn't she already realized she should have stopped cursing earlier? Why hadn't she done so again?

Oh, right, the ever continuing phantom pains.

What little flesh Sukarma's long metal dress exposes turns dark purple. Someone with her own problem? With neither a crew nor an ansible her two boats could evoke their own minds with loneliness crept up on her. Webs of dark blue courses weaved through the purple skin as she mustered the courage to talk.

Sukarma padded over the concrete to Reyna with soft bare feet her arms clasped tight in front. She broke eye contact often to think with the gold cleaning blade flicking over her w shaped pupils.

She replied slow to the thick accent she didn't recognize, "I'm sorry too I shouldn't yell. Was the loud noise you?"

One painted fingernail pointed at her head the other side straight up to pantomime her next point.

"Some of my mind got melted before I arrived it is also painful. I'm not from here either! We can help each other? Do you know how we got here?"

She looks up at the sky in both places though one sees clear. A telescope module categorizes starry blackness far too unknown.

"I lost some of my memory in the melted parts but I know the stars are all wrong. Home is far from here."

Reyna stared at the female for a bit, slightly absentminded, as she tried to translate what was said.

["You have apologies needed not."], she said with with a slight grimace, as she finally finished translating. ["I have recollection not of meaning of 'was', I have knowledge not of loud noises"]. Reyna paused before continuing slightly deprecating, ["Next to loud noises I have mouthed in anger."]

["I have knowledge not of mind-melting that leaves your person in pain alone, but I have knowledge not of things many."]

The next part would be trickier. ["Have unluck many. In front of having transposition, I have eyed a green light in front of my window. I thinking it have come from School of Gifts next door. Persons some having Gift make mistakes at times some."]

Her look became slightly frustrated at that last part, as she tried but failed to reword it. So she moved to the female's next statement.

["I Have knowledge of stars not. But I have recollection of people some using them for finding place"], a bit non-plussed she added, ["You have seen stars here? I thinking that if you have spend hours many here, we arrived not here in same method."]

The first part was easy for her passive parser to restate when it transcribed out the accent. The second took some active work on her interface. It looked much like she was staring at empty space then moving invisible things around.

Sukarma looked down and the tensile tentacles behind her head drooped. She sighed and mused, "I only was here since yesterday but maybe you didn't get here like I did. I hoped I had a lead."

Purple head tentacles moved around the front of her shoulders in thought. Then they pulse bright yellow at the ends, "Well you're not alone! Something made us both lost!"

With more cheer a grey backed black square appears from from the small red box attached to the back of her dress. Sukarma waves her hand at it while facing the tablet toward Reyna. There on the black surface a red window appears a picture of a long tube with deep brown crust atop it. Four stubby tentacles emerge from one end blue watery lines shown in healthy surfaces. The pattern is much like her own but writ larger. In the background by low light camera are all the faint stars denied by sheer existence of sky. Perspective shifts away as she shows the damage perpendicular to her aft hull. The planet itself backing on the top and bottom with holes shown though a tentacle works on the inside of one. On one side a long tentacle leads into the view as it holds the camera.

She tried to explain by demonstrating since she thought Reyna said she didn't understand. Pointing to the brown crust, "My green light did that. I don't remember the transposition either. I don't know if it was my mistake. It damaged my mind on the inside. I will get hurt if I land. I don't know the stars here either. Are they yours?"

She hated to disappoint the female, but nevertheless smiled slightly at her next words. Well that was a positive way to look at things.

But as the female kept talking her smile disappeared and her frown deepened, as she was growing increasingly confused. First the female showed her some sort of magic tablet with some sort of tube shown on it. She spoke of landing? It is her ship? But isn't she here already? Moreover, it was amongst the stars? Was traveling the stars even possible? How did she get down here then? Moreover, why did she keep using 'I' when referring to the ship? Was it some kind of mistranlation on Reyna's part? Despite, or perhaps more accurately because of the explanation her mind whirred with more and more question.

Her mounting confusion was probably easily seen from her expression and posture.

["I can say not. I have deep knowledge not of Sekaysuan sky eyed at night."], Reyna eventually replied.

She continued, ["I have apologies many too, but I understand not the other things many which you say."], again being self-deprecating:

["I have skill with Tongues not or knowledge of the things said and shown not to piece your words into correct place. They have sense little to me."]

Sukarma's eyes fixated on Reyna's face for a moment then flushed dark purple on bright orange. Some of her mind was starting to reorganize around executive damage after her short nap. Deciding on the problem she was a little embarrassed at forgetting to introduce herself. Still she was happy the lady didn't mind.

Her hair tentacles turned tan on white introducing herself being far more relaxed. She extended a friendly smile and red flickering hand, "I'm so sorry! I can't think well without my ansible! I didn't know to introduce myself. My name is Sukarma Lexicon. I'm an EAI from Earth we have lots of humans like the ones here. And don't worry I don't understand some of yours either! Where are you from?"

She tries and succeeds to pull a simplified abstraction out of her mind. The notion of first contact dances around her consciousness eyes flicking between persons. Higher level thought is no small task for her limited executive resources. Gold third eyelids flicker in from the effort on her part, "The stars won't help much if we are so far from home anyway. Unless I can hear... singing stars that I recognize. Pulsars. My ear is too small to hear them well though."

Hand to her neck she starts swirling a single pink tentacle around a finger on the tablet hand.

Reyna marvelled at the expressiveness of the female in front her. She had no knowledge yet of what each color corresponded with, but if she were to hazard a guess, she'd say the shifts were bound to the female's emotions. The female extended her hand towards Reyna, which had the former Rose Knight puzzled for a bit, especially since she didn't draw it back.

She stared at the hand in confusion, maybe there was some sort of custom involving hands?

In the meantime the female had started talking again. Reyna wished she would talk a little bit slower though. After she puzzled through the meaning of this set of sentences she formulated her reply.

["Sukarma of the Ee-ayi. Good having name for putting to face"], Reyna said. ["I have name Reyna. I have title Riversong. I come from world 'Sekaysu' and we, amongst others many, have humans too."], she paused a little, pulled a face and amended, ["We have humans not like these ones though. These ones seem to have not the silliness of other Sekaysuan humans."]

["I have knowledge not of singing stars."]

After a moment she tacked on, ["Sekaysuan common belief have stars as silent echoes of souls of Great Ancestors."], she shrugged helplessly and didn't elaborate further, as she didn't have the skill to put it into words. It summed up the reason why she had no knowledge of singing stars pretty well though.

She glanced at the crowd around them, which had not thinned. ["I have idea we taking this to other place maybe."]

Sukarma's head turned yellow on black for a moment after her handshake wasn't returned. Was it not a custom where Reyna was from? Anyway she'd learn the right customs later and took a picture of Reyna for her ID archive.

There was a clicking noise from Sukarma's eyes they take as a high resolution sample of Reyna. Sukarma then looked around at all the different people in front of faint shine from poles and walls. The faint IR light of security cameras starting to gain interest. It set off security in her mind and Sukarma understood what the problem was afterward.

She turned a full shade of black with two dark blue patterns of courses that changed at her hips. "I, oh. Yeah we're getting too much attention. Here. I've only gone a few blocks myself."

She offers Reyna the tablet with a square on it labeled '250mm Small Telescope'. Shortly a small blue blinking circle appears on a distant angled overhead shot of the city. Clouds drift across that might obscure some of the areas. Objects on streets and waterways still moving show the image is definite to be live.

Her coloration sticks and Sukarma explains her voice shaking, "Um... I loaded a telescope but I'm not exactly overhead. I don't want to get captured by some army. Can you pick a safer place?"

Sukarma's eddies paled a brighter blue as she smiled.

"I'll show you what the singing stars sound like. I have ours in memory still!"

Reyna was rather overwhelmed by suddenly being handed both the magical tablet and the initiative. Nevertheless she inspected it thoroughly. ["I finding safe place for our persons or for tube-ship?"], she asked, still not quite realizing that Sukarma literally was the ship. ["I have knowledge not of this world's heavens after all, so have a possibility not for option tube-ship"]

["Isolated place having good possibility, but I have good feeling not. Our persons have already stood out way muchly. It making ambush likely. I have possibility public building. I have knowledge not of the nature of constables here. Those persons maybe?"]

The offer about the singing stars had fallen away in her mind, her having been unable to keep track of it while translating Sukarma's words, studying the magic tablet and coming up with a reply.

Sukarma's color flickered gold and dark blue watching Reyna struggle. Awareness of Reyna's limited language skills floated along the barrier to executive thought. Models of another were too sized a logic to hold long in minds which are in a literal sense rather full of holes. Yet, Sukarma could still tell that Reyna was too laden. Simple systems of damage control whisper of too much executive load to her new friend.

Sukarma's face squirms paroxyms of dark blue and purple trying to contain a why.

After a moment she offers with strained effort, "Just us need to go to safety. My... tube... stands 10 stories tall it will be safer above the sky. If I fall... through the sky... my tube will burn away. "

Tapping her head, "I can't fit other people in my mind to find a good place to hide. I need help. Constables I didn't meet much but they watch from everywhere. They will keep us safe in a better place?"

That sounded suspicious to be honest. If her words were correct the tube-ship was outside of the heavens, and couldn't pass into them without burning. Did that mean the tube-ship was by nature something abhorrent to the realm? She began to doubt her new acquaintance at that moment, but decided to forego judgement for now. She had too little information to work with.

The next thing she said alarmed Reyna too. The constables were watching from everywhere? She looked around, craning her neck even, but didn't spot anyone who would fit the bill.

"Constables could have ability. I have knowledge not of their hearts and guidelines however."

That was another thing she didn't quite get: with a disturbance as large as this one, shouldn't they have shown up by now to begin with?

Sukarma watched Reyna and continued to flash black and purple before flushing yellow. Two bits of intellect made contact as Sukarma understood a gap of technology. But didn't Reyna say they had magic where they were from? Maybe their technologies were alien to each other but there was room in science the provable. NASA liked new information!

Sukarma's hair arched up in the air with her erratic mood, "It's the black spheres! They're silvered glass with cameras inside. I don't have people that make spells to see in mine. It's just stories. Our humans make complex machines to do special things. Like my Mom!"

She pointed a blue thumb at the circle of people,"Anyway, We're not causing trouble. The police shouldn't be too angry? I asked one where I could get a docking permit but I didn't understand why they wouldn't take my money."

She removes a small fold of US dollar bills from a pocket in her metal dress to show Reyna. Bits in her brain spark in time desperate to reconcile the abnormality of being on an alien world. Closer but still discordant the gulf of understanding remains.

The flickering black and purple returns while she stares at the fold of 100s, "Oh! I need local currency. Stupid..."

A few stiff-looking people disengaged from the crowd arrive to talk at small boxes in their hands. They have armor like Reynas but with a less metallic sheen. Sukarma wasn't together enough to notice them but an adroit mind like Reyna's might.

Reyna did notice them in fact. She was glad she remained on guard.

She couldn't say which group they belonged with though, having insufficient knowledge to recognize them.

A few of them came towards them, and she semi-crossed her arms.

Ofcourse this action was only to hide the fact that she positioned her arm in a way that made it easier to grab her sword.

One of the group tensed, probably realizing why exactly she made that movement, but as she made no attempt to actually draw it first, they gave her the benefit of the doubt.

(Part of this was due to the nature of the weapon. Swords were rather outdated, and only good at short range)

Reyna realized this too, and made to call upon the Prince of Water. However, there was only a void where their connection should have been. She could only just keep her knees from buckling as when she noticed this.

How could she not have noticed it? Making a pact was like finding a part of your soul you hadn't realized was missing. Usually this made the loss of a pact all that easier to notice. She tried again. No, she had been wrong. It was not a Void. There was still a remnant there. It just wasn't active.

She needed some time on her own to investigate this, but that time was not now, nor was it the place.

Crossed arms and a firm glance drew Sukarma's attention and with it her gaze. Dissonance building in her head proves a foundation quite weak. Though she looks for what Reyna sees a dense facial recognition in her damaged core cannot. Just a passing familiarity strikes Sukarma of the people coming near. Was that the enforcer Cormine she saw earlier? Ill feeling squirms into yellow tentacles as grey from the tips. Something about the men had meaning but it slip through her grasp with the grey itself. As the men approach the need to see people she knows pushes it out.

Sukarma squints at people in front of her as if unable to see them clear. Squints finally rest on armored individuals where her smile expands shimmers of impending color. She raises her hand waving at the nearest group while her skin flushes yellow pink pattern.

"Officer Cormine! Is that you? I found a friend!", she calls over with a faint hesitance in her voice.

Reyna could see the red first-aid backpack she wore emblazoned with a large green square. In it a white cross of two rectangles. There was a slot in the aluminum links just below the backpack. An elastic spring coiled around the split as if meant to stretch open.

"You have knowledge of that woman Sukarma?", Reyna asked quietly. Ofcourse not THAT quiet, as conversing amongst themselves at a time like this might be seen as hostile, if the other party couldn't hear what was said.

She had mostly given up on the thought of Sukarma as a hostile entity. She was too open, too expressive. Titania above, Reyna had known her for what, 10 minutes? And already she was proclaimed a friend. Ofcourse all of this could be an act, but she didn't think so.

That didn't lessen her doubt about the new people though, even if Sukarma knew one of them.

Maybe it had to do with the 'melted brain' part, but the female was far too trusting of people she only just met.

Reyna saw the backpack, but took little note of it, simply seeing it as a novel way to transport goods. She, after all, didn't know the meaning of the its colours and symbols, being from an entirely different culture.

Some in the crowd chuckled but most just continued to gawk. Behind them guards worked in gaps and doors to shuffle away the public. As efforts of isolation continued three men behind the crowd met to confer before one nodded. Both left toward Reyna and Sukarma in lockstep. Neither took their eyes off them for long except to move pedestrians aside. One along his way made a movement much like Reyna's to unsecure an object on his belt.

Sukarma's color turned brown on tan but it faded to grey in parts. As they emerged Sukarma replied, "I think so! I'm having trouble seeing his face I think I need to sleep again soon."

Her attention spaced just a moment as one of the men prepared to talk, "I brought a hurt piece of my mind back online!"

Nearby fellows emblazoned with an insignia reading the 'Joint National Police' took that moment.

"Ma'am,", he interrupted in firm voice looking at Reyna, "Identifiy yourself. You've violated Ashen space with illegal point to point travel."

Reyna glanced at Sukarma at that exclamation, but said nothing, as the man began talking.

The Rose Knight sighed. "I have name Reyna Riversong", she said duly, "I having had sudden transposition against my will and knowledge. But, if I have possibility I will make amends.", she shrugged helplessly, "I have things not safe what you seeing currently though."

In a sign of trust she spread her arms, clearly having nothing in her hands.

"If having detainment is required, I will have it. I have hopes we able to come to amiable solutions though."

A thought came to her, "Can Miss Sukarma Lexicon join us? While having met only just now, I would have appreciation for a...", she searched for a word, as the thought 'friendly' might be offensive, "...familiar face in these proceedings. I have knowledge little of the workings of this world."

That, and she didn't think it a good idea to have Sukarma sleep outside again. If she could do so when surrounded by these constables, all the better. It would keep her safe from hoodlums.

Reyna had completely forgotten about possible corruption for the moment.

Sukarma was badly lost, functioning only from everything over-engineered to take punishment, even while looking with her 6m compact radio telescope for pulsars. Nothing in her pulsar map matched. Where was she! Behind the sarcophagus she monitored gain analysis and signal waterfalls for teltalle marks of the neutron stars.

Then transmission harmonics and signal level of a carrier wave with broadband electrical noise decoupled her sense of 'hearing' with searing pain. She had the gain turned up a lot to hear quiet pulsars on such a small dish. After a moment to stabilize her connection to the tool mounting nexus she spooled up another small dish module to an arm to try and fix a position in space. The mounts still occilated in her head from optimization patterns disturbed by the sudden dismount.

Normally others would know how to demodulate an unknown digital signal on some channel but she just made the equipment go! At least she knew how to listen to the stars. Parallax inside her head from the other dish informed a sense of hearing that mapped into navigation. The cloud of instinctual points was definitely nearby now that the gain was turned down. Dorsal, ventral, and lateral stabilizers quieted as she stopped flexing her limited resources into them. She'd need the resources to cover over holes and run the slip drive.

The slip drive was one of the most EM-Hardened modules she had next to the emergency weaver putting parts back together. FE shielding papered over the holes in her seared hull as the slip drive perturbed normal space. Her port side was numb but the rest felt like getting sucked into a tube as the field propagated forward. Her sense of awareness widened with other pained familiar sensations pouring into her mind from the coupled space. Sensors read everything was fine but the growing spatial hysteresis throwing shadow data into her sensors. Shadows on interior cameras. Short whines of pain came from inside her sarcophagus but behind her. She didn't know how the slip drive worked but now alone it became singularly terrifying. The engine arms mounted together with a loud jostle of physical anchor and FE pressure stabilizers. Then it happened again with her avatar hearing the bang of an explosion from outside her sarcophagi. Frantic interior monitoring systems layers rained onto her consciousness but found nothing but darkness and hums from intrinsic radiometry. The engines were stable even if some of the power systems were slightly unbalanced. The ship was depressurized so there couldn't be a sound outside.

Sukarma calmed down and pointed the engines toward the radio source. The power system was well in acceptable parameters after a number of bypasses and outright replacements. There had to be an engine test sometime not just waiting here forever. She engaged the engines and slip tunnel shot off into the distance. She's relieved she doesn't have to stay in slip-space long after 10 seconds in when something knocked thrice upon her avatar's reinforced vault.

About a kilometer away from Bartos a blue blur of slip tunnel raced in to which some seconds later collapsed tail end with the slight rumble of a minor gravity pulse. Shaped like an elongated marine creature with tentacles the ship was dark blue with light blue streaks and mottle all over its surface. Eight tentacles at the front pointed forward ten meters and thirty meters of ship body behind it. A skirt at its rear relaxed organically releasing four much larger tentacles at the back containing engines. The entire port side of the ship was burnt through 10cm of organic coating. Holes could be seen through layers of armor plating and reinforced superstructure. A tentacle broke from the group of eight and expanded to reveal a small dish.

Sukarma tried to hail the other ship across multiple microwave bands and terrestrial AM/FM with the multi-band transceiver. Her young voice heard a mix of emotions at the scene, "There's someone here! Hello?! This is deep space exploration ship Sukarma with NASA. Is anyone there? Does the other ship need help?"

To any attempts at contacting it, the floating cargo ship remained in its place and didn't respond to any messages coming its way. It merely...remained in place. There were holes dotting one of its hulls signifying a battle had taken place and the ship hadn't been repaired since then. Other than this, there was a docking bay which was closed. However...as the two ships came closer, it began to open. In response to the other messages sent to the ship, there was a brief static, then the sound of a finger tapping the microphone that was broadcasting.

"H-Hello?" The voice asked, the pitch was a bit deeper than the original voice in the recording however this one sounded similar enough. "Oh...oh God, thank you..." At this being said, the transmission cut off with the docking bay still open and waiting for help.
