Born a Cambion, with no knowledge of her true origins, Tamika does her best to blend into normality while resisting the demonic impulses lurking within her genetic code.

Description

Name: Tamika Blackburn
Nicknames: Tami
Age: Seventeen
Gender: Female

Appearance: Cambion are always angelically beautiful, a trait picked up from their accursed 'parents'. Tamika is no exception to this rule; her sharp, aqualine features give her youthful face a mature edge, and the prominent point of her chin and high cheekbones make her look years older than what she is. Although this does not look unnatural, it would be safe to say that she draws curious glances often. It does not help that her eyes are a startling vibrant shade of blue, so bright that she often covers them with glasses, or that her hair seems to shimmer between a pale auburn and snowy white. Lithe, young and pretty, it is easy to believe that she is the sire of an incubus.

Because Tamika is a Cambion, there are other differences to her that threaten to tell her apart, some obvious, some less so. If anyone were to look hard enough, they would realise that Tamika doesn't breath; there is no rise and fall of her chest, no breathlessness if she runs to catch a bus. If humans could hear such sounds, they would notice the absent of a racing heartbeat; of any heartbeat at all. Cambion are like walking corpses; and as they grow older the differences become ever more clear. Her eyes are becoming an ever more glowing shade of blue, and her hair grows ever more vibrant in its shades of red every year that passes. Such changes are only the beginning...

Personality

Abilities:
- Tamika has been blessed (or cursed) since birth with the ability to see through the facade that mythical creatures are able to assume when in the mortal realms. Not only this, but she can see those souls of the dead which are yet to leave this realm; this allows her to converse, and interfere, with them.
- Tamika has elemental control over Fire; not only can she manipulate and create heat or naked flames, but she can summon them via the flow of her own blood. Her powers rival many of the more powerful demons she encounters.
- Telepathy and Telekinesis; gifts (among others) that she endowed onto her 'half-sister', Morika. Her Telekinetic abilities do not rival her Elemental gifts, but she is able to lift, move and destroy objects far larger and heavier than herself. Vehicles and people are all vulnerable, though houses are a little too big.
- Tamika, though not fully a demon, does possess some of the fortitude that their race commands. While she is not particularly faster or stronger than the average human, she does wound less easily, and is able to cope with her wounds more readily.
- Given that, by all technicality Tamika is already dead, she can't technically die, not by conventional methods, anyway. In order to destroy Tamika, her head or soul must be removed from her body, or her entire body destroyed. A wound to her lungs, for instance, does little fatal damage due to the fact she does not utilize her respiratory system.
- Tamika can also move between the mortal realm and the realm of Hell at will; not that she would actually want to do that.

Ability Flaws:
- Being able to see the realm that lingers just beyond ours means there is one problem. They can see her too. While she looks human, other unnatural beings can simply tell, much like a sixth sense, that Tamika is not quite human. In the same fashion, the spirits of the dead know she see's them, and they know she might be able to help...
- Given that half her genetic code is spawned from a demon, Tamika is constantly aware of the fact that Hell is pulling her towards it, slowly working its will over her very being as she ages. Were she to ever enter hell, or give in to it... well, who knows what may become of her.

Skills:

- Tamika has begun learning to defend herself against her enemies; her current tuition covers the use of daggers and short blades, in combat techniques typical of Japan and China.
- Tamika is an accomplished member of her Diving School, and of her schools gymnastics department.

Weaknesses:
- Given that Tamika is a slight of a girl, her lacks the physical muscle to defeat most opponents face to face. She has no more strength than the average human female (albeit, a physically fit and trained one).

Personality:
To Tamika, being 'normal' is crucial to her, in a sense it is her lifeline to goodness and sanity which would otherwise be ripped away by her demon blood. But it is mostly because of her demon blood that she isn't in fact more messed up, the horrors she has witnessed have been bearable because of the dark part of her. It is that part of her where she locks away these traumatic experiences and often the desires and feelings that would otherwise convert her back to her demonic origins. She's most of the time bubbly, a little sarcastic but most importantly is unrealistically hopefully. That is her good side. When the her slightly darker side comes out to play, Tamika's words are often harsh and that sarcasm is laced with cruelty. She has a skill with words and a cunning that is able to convince the lesser minds of anything. This causes some major mood swings in her as well as a deep paranoia that any thing she does could snap the one thing inside her that is keeping her 'good'.

Equipment

Tanto(x2): Tamika carries two short-blade Tanto's. They have a heat-resistant grip, and a black steel metallic blade, with the entire weapon measure at 12". These daggers are mystically enchanted to hold a special propensity for slaying demons and other undead; wounds are accompanied by flashes of fire and cause serious infection, dealing more damage to undead or demonic enemies. Not to say that they aren't effective at killing people, though.

Wakizashi: Tamika also uses a 19" Wakizashi, also of black steel and with a heat-resistant grip, which she carries on her back using a shoulder-strap made of soft blackened leather. As with her Tanto, Tamika's Wakizashi is also enchanted in the same way, and can deliver the same damage to undead or demonic foes.

(Note: Enchantment effects: Demons, Zombies, Vampires, Possessed and other creatures of similar ilk. Both weapons are less effective against opposing creatures: Angels being an example.)

Pouches and Vials: Tamika carries pouches on her belt in which she carries two items: vials of her own extracted blood, and small explosives that generate flames.

Armour: Having a disdain for heavy armour, Tamika only wears a pair of blackened steel arm braces.

History

Biography: Currently living in a bustling city with her Father, Rubin Blackburn and her sister of the same age, Morika. They actually seem to live a normal life, but that is because of her Father being a dream Incubus rather than a blood Incubus like his kin. He has strived hard to make a normal life for his two daughters but it has been especially hard because not only must he help them cope with their demon blood, but he lost the one woman he loved and despite his demonicness wanted to raise a family with her. He is very protective of both Tamika and Morika, despite probably guarding Tamika a little more than necessary. The fact that they are not normal is widely ignored and they act as if nothing is different.

Tamika squirmed against his skeletal form while the sword pressed into her legs, and wormed her way out from his grasp. She wasn't sure how he expected her to attack him with a dagger, but she persisted regardless. Nerves still flaring, she adjusted her position. With a short, sharp strafe to Skallagrim's left and brought her blade around in a sweeping motion to catch his arm.

Tamika hit the ground with a loud thud, and groaned loudly. Already her cheeks flared with embarrasment, and she was careful to avoid eye contact with the onlookers as she climbed to her feet once again. Her opponents blade was easily three times the length of her dagger, and her small stature meant getting close enough to use it was proving a real issue.

She bit her lip, with no inspiration for what to do. Failing inspiration, she went for instinct. She hurled the dagger towards him, and stepped forwards to take a well aimed punch at his jugular, her other hand balled up beneath her chin.

Tamika stepped delicately around the tip of his outstretched blade, unwilling to meet his gaze. She bent down and picked her fallen dagger from the ground, holding it delicately in one hand. She took a few steps backwards, putting a few feet between her and the large, skeletal creature.

Tamika took a few more steps backwards, placing more space between herself and the Xindhi. Given that the creature was notably quicker than herself, she didn't favor his advocation of mobility, but she would give the warrior's advice a try. She backed up as far as the benches on the far side off the room, and got ready for the skeletal creatures approach.

Tamika waited for the Xindhi to begin approaching and judged his position. The lower rear guard made him stoop slightly, evened out the height difference slightly. As he approached she began strafing along the edge of the room until she placed herself between the Dojo wall and a fixed wooden block used for punching. She hoped the position would render the length of his blade a nuisance more than an assest. Awaiting his approach, she kept a mid guard on her body, and a low centre of gravity.

Tamika took the opportunity to step into the gap created by the arc of his attack. Given her small stature she was able to slide beneath the blade and within range of a striking blow. She lowered one hand, prepared to catch or parry his arm if the dagger came close, and brought her own around for a sharp stabbing motion to the upper ribs of the Xindhi.

As his blade bit into her knee she lowered herself beneath the outstretched arm of the punching block and levered herself around it and into the open. Her leg was bleeding freely, and she was forced to limp slightly as she moved. She was unaware if her dagger had done any substantial damage to the Xindhi. Rather than waiting, she began backing towards the far wall. On her left hand side a rack of wheels sat, adorned with non-lethal training items. She positioned herself beside it, and awaited the result of her earlier attack.

Tamika watched the Xindhi approach with caution. As he got within a suitable range, Tamika flipped her grip on the dagger into reverse and lifted it high, the daggers blade now slanting diagonally across her chest rather than her midriff. She knew it left her mid-riff exposed; and she hoped the Xindhi wished to take advantage of this fact too. Patiently, she waited to spring her plan.

Watching carefully, Tamika took note of his guard while she waited. She kept her own guard high, but took a minimal step further backwards, no no more than three feet from the back wall of the Dojo. She kept her azure eyes focused on the Xindhi's weapons, waiting for him to attack her. She knew he was exceptionally quick; she had to remain cautious, ready.

Tamika traced his movements as the creature darted to her right. The only warning for its sudden offensive was the sharp snort it had given beforehand. As the creature rolled off of its shoulder, Tamika stepped backwards to the wall another step and used her free hand to tear a hanging cloth from the wall. She drew the material across her, and entangled the dagger within its midst. The sharpened point slowed, and although the point still struck her thigh at its point, more serious damage was thankfully avoided. Already she was forced to limp; more damage to her leg could prove serious. Tamika moved around the rack slowly, careful not too put too much weight on her wounded leg. Now the rack sat to her right, a few paces in front of her. She held a mid level guard.

Mentally cursing, Tamika turned her body slightly as the projectiles flew towards her. Most of the heavy items struck her side, and while painful her guard meant that her arm took the blow her ribs should have. The joint felt stiff, but she could move it enough to fight, she believed. She stepped forwards, carefully putting her weight onto her good foot. The Xindhi still had to recover from his aerobatic kick, and he was going to make sure she moved first. She hurried forwards and used her good arm to shove the heavy rack away from her and topple it over, with the aim of either pinning the skeletal creature or at least putting him off balance. Simultaneously, she gritted her teeth and jumped over the falling rack, keeping her knees tucked high and her guard low enough to cover her midriff. Her weakened arm held her second dagger, and was the one she would use to strike if the opportunity presented itself.

Tamika avoided the car at the last moment, and cringed as its horn blared loudly in the night. She had been listening to her MP3 player, and had barely noticed the little blue hatchback tearing down the street towards her. This time she checked carefully before she crossed, and was able to avoid being killed or seriously maimed by fast moving metal objects. She got to the other side of the road and stood for a few moments while she searched for a decent song to play.

Tonight, she had no plans or goals. She was going to wander aimlessly and enjoy some fresh air; given what she had been up to this week, she figured that she deserved the break. And that was without mentioning the pile of books she still had to read for her English Class.

With a triumphant little smile, Tamika selected her chosen song and slipped the MP3 player back into her jeans. She stood for a few seconds enjoying the songs intro, and then decided she would take a walk down the road and see if any cafe's were open this late. She doubted it, but what the heck?

As she turned she walked straight into Arabella. She stumbled backwards and nearly fell, though more shocked than hurt. She popped her headphone from her ear and gave an apologetic grimace at the woman.

"I'msosorry!" It came out as a twisted rush, and even she had trouble understanding what she had just said.

Tamika was glad the woman hadn't snapped at her; she'd had a long enough week without getting into a needless fight in the street. She gave the woman a relieved smile, and pressed the pause button on her MP3 through her jeans.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Just a bit clumsy. You're alright, right?"

Tamika wasn't amused to be described as clumsy, but she let the comment slide due to the fact she had just walked straight into the woman. She gave her a weak smile, doing her best impression of 'har-har' at the womans joke. Convincing - perhaps not.

"Just enjoying a bit of fresh air. I was going to head towards it now, actually. Why are you out so late?"

"I don't see why not."

The fact that the girl had used the word 'adventure' was a little worrying; what could warrant such a word for a trip no more than five minutes? Either way, Tamika had agreed, and she had no real reason not to. She gave the girl a smile - notably warmer this time - and began walking in the direction of the coffee shop.

"I'm Tamika. Nice to meet you."

Tamika found the woman quirky, but not in an unpleasant way. She was probably the sort of person that would bug her in the mornings (Tamika definitely wasn't a morning person) but given that this wasn't the morning, she was quite pleased to have her company. It managed to distract her from her thoughts of the week. Thinking about herself dying often depressed her.

"So, where do you work then?" she asked, trying to make polite conversation.

"Sounds like fun. Those eighties-esque diners always did make me laugh," she said, a small smile playing on the edges of her lips. Clearly, some time in her past she had visited one and now remembered it fondly. "I don't, no; I'm a student at the moment. Not as fun as a diner, though."

"It's a lot of work, so don't feel too bad about it. Anyway, maybe you'll be able to save up from your job, right?" Tamika doubted that the woman earnt enough at the diner to pay tuition fees, but she felt bad for her. She knew she was lucky to have the chance, given her... situation. "Sing?" she said, with a smile. "Maybe I'll have to come and watch you some time, then."
