Tawny

A Daedayre

0 · 462 views · located in The Infinite Void

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by Sick Puppy

Description

Tawny is now a 22 year old woman with long shiny black hair that frames her bright green eyes. Her small frame can noly be described as indeceptive as she has no real talents in combat. She could be described as intelligent and trustworthy with a general demeanor thats pleasant and welcoming, meaning shes highly sociable and always up for a laugh.

She does also have one other unfamiliarity and that story is held accountable to the beautiful owl she carries with her. Tawny could now be described as a True Daedayre, a very rare race of beings imbued with the spirit of an animal through extraordinary circumstances.

The Making of a Daedayre
Tawnys story began when she was 19 and, living with her parents, she came back home from her day at the academy with a small cardboard box in her hands.

'Mum, could you get me some antiseptic wipes, some masking tape and some lollypop sticks if you have some please' she said quite demandingly, her mind set at the task in hand.

'A please wouldn't go amiss young lady,' Her mother replied getting up to fetch the items from around the house. 'What do you need them for anyway?'

Not expecting her mum to be very happy with her answer, she dismissed the question with a 'It doesnt matter.'

'Well, whatever your doing be careful...and be sure to clean up after yourself when you've finished.'

'Thanks, i will,' and upon taking the items, she proceeded to head up to her room being careful not to jolt the contents of the shoebox.

******

Upon entering her room the young girl placed the box carefully on her bed and begun arranging the various bits and bobs her mother collected, along with a pair of scissors, needle, thread and tissues, all upon a clean towel.

'Lets see what i can do for you' she said compassionately and seemingly to herself, but as she removed the lid from the shoebox and reached inside, what could be described as a small scuffling sound could be heard.

A small owl was lifted upon to the towel, its beautiful feathers emblazoned with delicate patterning up its back and its right wing hung lifelessly at its side. It was obvious it was broken, the odd angle of the structure would make anyone concerned to look that this was the case, and if that wasn't enough, the large amount of blood and the unconcious state confirmed it further.

'That dog got you good ,didnt he, hey?' she continued in a soothing tone as she carefully lifted the wing to see the full extent of the damage. It was worse than shed thought, the muscle on the underside was ripped at the shoulderblade, and at this point most people would pass the bird for dead.

She began using the antiseptic wipes to clean away the blood and the open wounds for bacteria and disease before trimming away at a small amount of surrounding feathers.

She wasn't a nurse, or a doctor, or any type of medical staff. She just felt...guided, as if it were her task to complete.

'Such a pretty thing aren't you hun?' she reassured the bird whilst stroking the feathers at its neck, and upon doing so, she felt the bird had dropped in temperature. It had lost alot of blood, and the shock of the mauling was enough to kill the strongest of birds, but she wasn't ready to give up yet.

After already sterilizing a thin sowing needle, she threaded it and spent the next 15 minutes totally focused on repairing as much of the damage as she could.

The bird still unconscious, and the young girl now completely worn from not only these events but from her day at school, she grabbed a hot water bottle and a few blankets and tucked the bird up against her as she fell asleep.

******
Hours passed, and the 19 year old was awoken to the sound of her door banging.

'Are you up?' her mum called, 'Your going to be late for school.'

'Her eyes flew open and upon realising her predicament, in her best fake husky voice, she called back ' Mum, i'm feeling ill, i dont think im well enough.'

'Well alright, but make sure you catch up on your work, im going out shopping i'll see you later'

'okay, have fun. ' and the sound of footsteps signalled her mothers retreat.

She got up and pulled the bird from its 'nest' to study it, only to find, although weak and malnourished, it was staring back at her.

'Well hello handsome,' she said ruffling its feathers. To which the bird just looked up at her.

A few weeks passed and after much coaxing and hard work, the girl managed to feed, water and bathe the bird back to life. When she could shed sneak her knew friend out to the large garden where the bird could begin to regain its balance, and stretch its wing. The wing wasn't fully healed yet and the girl was uncertain it would ever fully recover, at least enough to allow the bird to regain flight, but one thing was for certain. Over the weeks that had passed the small bird had shown an immense amount of gratitude in the form of friendly pecks, calls and even in becoming clingy when she had to leave for school. She hadn't expected it, but the owl had grown to adore her and she returned the love happily.

*******
The following spring came and in the recent months the owl begun to fly and attempted to hunt independantly to no avail, yet would never leave the young womans side for more than a few minutes.

Then came the day.

She was out at the bottom of the garden in a small wooded area with Shakespeare, When she started feeling a niggling pain in her chest. Ignoring it, she chased after the owl in a playful manner. Her heart felt suddenly heavy and in moments she was on the floor gasping for breath under the influence of a heart attack.

With no one to help her she just lay there defenceless and dying until Shakespeare landed a few feet away with the first mouse he'd caught since his wing broke. Upon seeing something was wrong, the little creature walked up beside her face and began almost headbutting at her cheek as if to comfort her.

Whilst gasping for air she reassured him 'Ye-yes i'm her-here, dont wo-worry, be saf-fe' and with a smile at the little bird and those last words, her eyelids fell shut and all was silent.

*********

The little bird hopped onto her chest and began to call. it was a sad low call as if all his happiness had suddenly been taken away from him. He closed his eyes and began to dream, it was all he could do.

'Shakespeare? what are you doing here?' Tawny asked confused, she had accepted the prior events took place and was confused at the presence of the small bird she loved here with her. She noted a small object at the birds feet, a scroll, along with a locket, written on ancient and worn parchment. She picked it up and read;

' In light of occasions and sacrifices made, the brotherhood of light
has consented to the request of a new Daedayre.

The Daedayre has now fulfilled all the necessary laws
- passing -sacrifice -compassion -love -acceptance
required to complete the ritual... and shall continue to exist
under the name Tawny .... '

More information followed on the scroll about her task and the ritual that followed but she watched and smiled as Shakespeare took flight and landed on her shoulder. She rubbed the plumage at his back gratefully and in the full knowledge that this bird was special. A small feather escaped his feathery ranks and was drifting upon the air and landing in her palm.

She raised the pocket from the perch where Shakespeare showed, and placed the feather inside before hanging the locket around her neck. Suddenly she was made aware of a beating heart...her heart, and everything seemed to Vanish into the sound.

She woke from her slumber laying in the woods at the bottom of her garden, the wind gushed through her hair and she was astounded. didnt she just die? Had Shakespeare really brought her back? it seemed impossible, but the locket around her waist and the scroll in her hand was evidence enough. she looked at the bird who nudged the scroll with his head, as if she should read. And she did.

'As part of the contract the Daedayre must leave the old life
behind them and instead follow their journey, taking the
companion along.
Two become one, where one falls so not does one but all.'

And so Tawny and Shakespeares lives became conjoined, happily up till this day.

'Shakespeare looked interested in the man, and finally concluded that he was worthy of a second opinion beside his choice of words. Shakespeare was protective of his 'little Tawny' and felt the need to go sticking his beak in, quite literally, into the affairs of those she decided to interact with.

Tawny could often find this same behaviour slightly interruptive, especially considering she was happy to converse with almost everyone, but she understood Shakespeare's feelings to some extent, as she felt the same level of compassion for him.

Shakespeare spread his wings wide, and upon bending his knees, he released the spring of energy to fling himself skyward, and into flight. Considering the man was only an arms length from where tawny sat, the little owl circled the room in order to perfect his, well, flawless landing. He had bestowed himself atop the mans shoulder. With no interest in the threats this man may behold to his well being, he begun by lightly trampling his shoulder, before moving onto the other and ending with a soul-quenching stare into the depths of the mans eyes. It took an awkward few moments for the gaze to pass into memory, and clearly content with his observations, Shakespeare pecked the man lightly upon the finger as a sign of affection.

'Err-I'm sorry about him, hes a little protective' Tawny begun, smiling bashfully. 'I'm Tawny, and this is Shakespeare, mind you it seems you two have already met.' she laughed slightly, things were going well, Shakespeare approved, and he had moved to her, maybe she could finally have a decent conversation.

'You'll have to forgive me i know not much about the people of Atlantis, so your poetic words were wasted on uneducated ears.'

Tawny's eyes were transfixed on the sphere..., that was until his questions had played over in her mind long enough for her bedazzled brain to adhere to their meaning.

'well i myself am a Daedayre, ' she smiled at the owl at this point before continuing 'I'm in search for answers as to what my quest entails. Just recently, i found myself wondering whether the Brotherhood of light actually bothered to gi-...' she stopped herself once more 'No, i shall not speak ill of them, i just happen upon frustration when after my passage, i have, for the past two years, failed to do anything worth commendment.'

Shakespeare, hopped from Ikiros's shoulder onto his lap and followed by hopping over to Tawny, and nuzzling his head amongst her fingers.

'I know we will find out sooner or later,' tawny looked up into the mans eyes and at the small orb at his fingers. 'So what do your duties entail?' she questioned intrigued.

'Yes, i'm a daedayre because Shakespeare here deemed me worthy of another life after my last. He put my name forth and, well, i was the exception to the rule. I lived, and now apart of me belongs to Shakespeare and he to i.' At this point she clasped the small locket that hung around her neck. 'I was given a scroll and, im supposed to make good of the life i lead now.'
She listened to the man speak of Atlantis and how he was a major part in the renewal, and quite clearly she felt a little underdressed, for being in the presence of someone with such a high stature.

She began realigning her grey hoodoe and simple black trousers in a frenzy her hands shook slightly as she did so and a small wispy strand of hair escaped its place behind her ear.

Shakespeare had nowtaken his place in her lap where he was warm and where he faced Ikiros in case his presence was needed.

'You-you'll have t-to excuse my clothes sir... she began in the first part of a desperate apology.

She settled at his words, your really nice' she said as she pushed back the wispy bit of hair...' Just like the kings in the stories my mother used to read to me as a ch-' Her mother read to her? she wasn't supposed to remember! those were the terms set out by the Brotherhood.

Shakespeares head turned as these impossible thoughts rushed uncontrollably through her head.

'Ikiros...' She noticed the small Kit journeying to there table and she pulled Shakespeare closer protectively. 'Somethings come up, i may have to go. 'she explained hoping he would understand. Of course he probably wouldn't. How could he? He didnt know about the ancient manuscript's text or of hers and shakespeares journey. It was a shame that he may have been the influence to jog her memory. and she had finally begun to collect pieces of the puzzle.

Tawny watched as Ikiros began to conversate with the kit, she bowed softly in his direction in admiration and respect...and for the loss of another conversee. She had matters now to attend to and with shakespeare now perched on her arm. She marched out into the street and off into the world to address them.

Tawny opened the door to the sound of the bell that signalled a new customer had arrived. quill was famished after allowing Shakespeare time to hunt. Shakespeare was a small owl with large and beautiful markings that covered his plumage.

After looking at the menu for sometime she simply ordered a Ham sandwich, and a glass of water.

'Thank you.' she said politely once she had been served and she beckonesd Shakespeare along with a low whistle. Taking a seat near the bak of the diner, she could people watch as customers entered and left.

Tawny took a long hard look at the man, pondering whether he meant any harm, Shakespeare just saw his growing shadow and leaped amongst her arms. she laughed quietly 'Shakespeare the brave' she started dramatically 'Boldy goes where no owlth go before..and the flees into the hands of a woman' she laughed at herself her words amusing her and Shakespeare gave a sort of 'Oh do shut up' look. As the man got closer Tawny turned to face him to see hwat he had to say.

Tawny was perplexed...she didnt get a hi, a person who could speak.. but Shakespeare... 'Ive always told you your such the charmer' she whispered to the little owl before standing him before the man and taking the empty seat.

Shakespeare walked hesitantly up to the man before sniffing the Guitar fretboard, and plucking a string with his beak..

In a slight flap he jumped at the noise and retreated wearily back to the safety of Tawnys comforting hands.

Tawny looked alot more calmer, after the man played his five note melody, and as she watched him stow his guitar, she watched Shakespeare Half-fly and Half-jump onto the mans houlder in order to pluck the instruments strings once more.

'I apologise, he seems fascinated with your guitar, is it old?' Tawny didnt know much about guitars and she wasnt sure whether the fact it was old or not, made enough difference to be relevant, but she asked to spark conversation.

'could you make that two, please' she continued after Brishens order before looking at the pad in anticipation to the drawing ahead.

Shakespeare noticed the pad too, and began to pace back and forth over Brishens back to either shoulder, waiting for him to begin marking the page. He was clearly unaware that the subject could well be him and he pecked the back of the mans head impatiently.

'In Wing City? well, im not sure, i currently reside on my travels, my home is with Shakespeare and that really matters.' she explained before quoting 'Home is where the heart lies.' she looked over at the man to see if he was in agreeance before then asking 'What about you?'

Shakespeare hopped onto the table to examine the piece of graphite, he observed the man drawing skillfully and was unsure what to do. He then turned to Tawny for guidance.

'Gypsies, travelling folk, i have heard many stories about them, both brave and serene. As for night times, i take Shakespeare out hunting he deserves just as much free-time as i do.' she said looking at the little owl compassionately.

Shakespeare attempted to pick up the graphite with his beak, upon succeeding and having crushed the single piece into crumbs,he was thrust into a grip by Tawny.

'Get that out of your mouth before you choke , you silly thing.' she said in a sharp but caring demeanour. Upon watching the Owl retreat its head back as she went to stroke him, Tawny immideately felt guilty.

'I was only looking out for you love... come here' she pulled the little bird into an embrace, and the little bird rested its head against her, as if he understood.

'No, i sleep under the stars a couple of hours a night.' she replied. 'I guess i could be described as a voluntary homeless person' she joked. She picked up her newly arrived tea and sipped on it, before shakespeare stepped up to the saucer and did the same.

'Did you ask, mister?' she said mockingly, to which the bird just called at her. 'Yes you may.'

'do you work? Sell your drawings? or play music professionally?' she continued at Brishen.

Tawny looked at the drawing, as always, so did Shakespeare. 'wow thats beautiful you have a real talent for it.' she said genuinely. shakespeare had other ideas, he grabbed the drawing by the beak and flew off onto the floor before treading footprints onto it.

Slightly amused at her little friend, but not wishing to make Brishen feel bad she said 'I am so sorry, that bird can be so mischievous when he wants to be. Here allow me to pay you for it.' She began fishing in her satchel and pulled out a fair amount of gold. 'shakespeare get your cute feathery ass over here now!' she ordered and the bird obediently landed on her arm. She picked up the picture which was largely undamaged.

'Aren't you going to sign and date it for me?' she smiled hoping to get the message that she valued this mans art alot more than her bird did.

Slightly taken aback Tawny felt flattered that after Shakespeares mischievous behaviour, Brishen still wanted her company.

'Well i guess so, but id be hesitant if there were dogs or cats around, for obvious reasons' she said regretfully gesturing to Shakespeare.

As naughty as he was Tawny loved shakespeare with all her heart, and it would kill her if anything happened to him.

Sat quietly in an almost obselete and isolated part of the ruins, Tawny sat watching as the world passed before her eyes... the wind rushed through her chestnut hair and her small frame sat clinging to her knees just thinking.

She watched as a familiar shape circled, swooped and otherwise graced the warmth of the fresh summer air.

Tawny smiled as her little friend Shakespere, a small owl, with a habit for mischief roamed free able to hunt and fly without fear of trouble. Until, that was, Tawny began to head up behind her out of sight, Tawny rushed to her feet and proceeded to follow.

'Shakespeare? where the devil are you?' she said breathing heavily in a panic and cerfuffle.

Shakespeare had follwed some distant sound, the sound of well he wasn't sure what exactly.... he swooped down towards a figure and after circling warily decided to get a better look.... He landed gracefully on a small wall in direct view of the man who had been causing the disruption. and upon squawking at him fiercely the comforting ofigure of Tawny came in as always to back him up.

'There you ar--ohhh i do apologise, did he interrupt?' she said apologetically hoping the bird hadn't found a new enemy.

Tawny, upon witnessing the close proximity the sword came to Shakespeares crest flew between them and took Shakespeare protectively into his arms... 'What the hell was that?' she said towards the man Nexus.

'And what the hell are you doing flying off Shakespeare, i swear one of these days your going to fly into something i cant get you out of!' she was clearly upset at the thought of loosing her companion, she loved the little owl after all and owed him so much more than she could repay.

'I apologise on behalf of the intrusion, we shall let you be.' Tawny took a look at the tall man in front of her, tall blonde and well built man.. no, now wasnt the time for those thoughts she said to herself. Shakespeares tiny heart was pounding against her and his head was buried in the fold of her clothes.

'Hey sweetie, dont be scared, come on out...' Tawny glared up at the man. 'I know he interrupted but really you went too far.'

Tawny asked in a caring and innocent manner... wait... why did she care? that was a quick thought which she passed almost immidiately. As she pulled hse felt the strong muscles in his large hand clasp around her... it was warm and comforting and she held onto that feeling for just a moment.

'Yeah i know hes looking, Shakespeare' she said to the small owl at a whisper in response to the stern glare he was giving her. The little owl completely oblivious to any dangers usually adorned by dragons flew up into the air and landed on the upper back of the creature.

'Tawny just watched as the events unfolded and now slightly embarassed she just began to walk relitively hastily in the direction of the hidden glen.

Nexus looked about, taking a deep breath, as he hear the words float from Tawny's mouth. He sensed his companion wandering about behind him, probably playing with owl, as he liked to play with most animals the flew.

Nexus' hair grew brighter blonde as electrical sparks rose from his body. He could sense the city nearby, and the conduits that ran underneath the glen. He began to draw on that energy, healing his faculties of exhausted energy. His armor looked to glow brighter, as it transformed back into Nexus' normal light clothing (plain leather pants, tailored Giorgio short sleeve blue shirt underneath his green/black/gold Dragon Duster Overcoat). His boots appeared to stay black and deadly looking, expensive as well. Nexus opened his eyes, as the looked less sky blue, more royal blue now.

"It is ok, I welcome your touch." He said boldly without thinking. Nexus blushed slightly, not even thinking about what he had just said. "I'm sorry, your just so beautiful...I didn't mean it like that...I mean I did...but." He stopped stammering, and started checking his sword, and outfit. Brushing upon his hidden twin daggers.
