Tawny

A Daedayre

0 · 467 views · located in The Infinite Void

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by Sick Puppy

Description

Tawny is now a 22 year old woman with long shiny black hair that frames her bright green eyes. Her small frame can noly be described as indeceptive as she has no real talents in combat. She could be described as intelligent and trustworthy with a general demeanor thats pleasant and welcoming, meaning shes highly sociable and always up for a laugh.

She does also have one other unfamiliarity and that story is held accountable to the beautiful owl she carries with her. Tawny could now be described as a True Daedayre, a very rare race of beings imbued with the spirit of an animal through extraordinary circumstances.

The Making of a Daedayre
Tawnys story began when she was 19 and, living with her parents, she came back home from her day at the academy with a small cardboard box in her hands.

'Mum, could you get me some antiseptic wipes, some masking tape and some lollypop sticks if you have some please' she said quite demandingly, her mind set at the task in hand.

'A please wouldn't go amiss young lady,' Her mother replied getting up to fetch the items from around the house. 'What do you need them for anyway?'

Not expecting her mum to be very happy with her answer, she dismissed the question with a 'It doesnt matter.'

'Well, whatever your doing be careful...and be sure to clean up after yourself when you've finished.'

'Thanks, i will,' and upon taking the items, she proceeded to head up to her room being careful not to jolt the contents of the shoebox.

******

Upon entering her room the young girl placed the box carefully on her bed and begun arranging the various bits and bobs her mother collected, along with a pair of scissors, needle, thread and tissues, all upon a clean towel.

'Lets see what i can do for you' she said compassionately and seemingly to herself, but as she removed the lid from the shoebox and reached inside, what could be described as a small scuffling sound could be heard.

A small owl was lifted upon to the towel, its beautiful feathers emblazoned with delicate patterning up its back and its right wing hung lifelessly at its side. It was obvious it was broken, the odd angle of the structure would make anyone concerned to look that this was the case, and if that wasn't enough, the large amount of blood and the unconcious state confirmed it further.

'That dog got you good ,didnt he, hey?' she continued in a soothing tone as she carefully lifted the wing to see the full extent of the damage. It was worse than shed thought, the muscle on the underside was ripped at the shoulderblade, and at this point most people would pass the bird for dead.

She began using the antiseptic wipes to clean away the blood and the open wounds for bacteria and disease before trimming away at a small amount of surrounding feathers.

She wasn't a nurse, or a doctor, or any type of medical staff. She just felt...guided, as if it were her task to complete.

'Such a pretty thing aren't you hun?' she reassured the bird whilst stroking the feathers at its neck, and upon doing so, she felt the bird had dropped in temperature. It had lost alot of blood, and the shock of the mauling was enough to kill the strongest of birds, but she wasn't ready to give up yet.

After already sterilizing a thin sowing needle, she threaded it and spent the next 15 minutes totally focused on repairing as much of the damage as she could.

The bird still unconscious, and the young girl now completely worn from not only these events but from her day at school, she grabbed a hot water bottle and a few blankets and tucked the bird up against her as she fell asleep.

******
Hours passed, and the 19 year old was awoken to the sound of her door banging.

'Are you up?' her mum called, 'Your going to be late for school.'

'Her eyes flew open and upon realising her predicament, in her best fake husky voice, she called back ' Mum, i'm feeling ill, i dont think im well enough.'

'Well alright, but make sure you catch up on your work, im going out shopping i'll see you later'

'okay, have fun. ' and the sound of footsteps signalled her mothers retreat.

She got up and pulled the bird from its 'nest' to study it, only to find, although weak and malnourished, it was staring back at her.

'Well hello handsome,' she said ruffling its feathers. To which the bird just looked up at her.

A few weeks passed and after much coaxing and hard work, the girl managed to feed, water and bathe the bird back to life. When she could shed sneak her knew friend out to the large garden where the bird could begin to regain its balance, and stretch its wing. The wing wasn't fully healed yet and the girl was uncertain it would ever fully recover, at least enough to allow the bird to regain flight, but one thing was for certain. Over the weeks that had passed the small bird had shown an immense amount of gratitude in the form of friendly pecks, calls and even in becoming clingy when she had to leave for school. She hadn't expected it, but the owl had grown to adore her and she returned the love happily.

*******
The following spring came and in the recent months the owl begun to fly and attempted to hunt independantly to no avail, yet would never leave the young womans side for more than a few minutes.

Then came the day.

She was out at the bottom of the garden in a small wooded area with Shakespeare, When she started feeling a niggling pain in her chest. Ignoring it, she chased after the owl in a playful manner. Her heart felt suddenly heavy and in moments she was on the floor gasping for breath under the influence of a heart attack.

With no one to help her she just lay there defenceless and dying until Shakespeare landed a few feet away with the first mouse he'd caught since his wing broke. Upon seeing something was wrong, the little creature walked up beside her face and began almost headbutting at her cheek as if to comfort her.

Whilst gasping for air she reassured him 'Ye-yes i'm her-here, dont wo-worry, be saf-fe' and with a smile at the little bird and those last words, her eyelids fell shut and all was silent.

*********

The little bird hopped onto her chest and began to call. it was a sad low call as if all his happiness had suddenly been taken away from him. He closed his eyes and began to dream, it was all he could do.

'Shakespeare? what are you doing here?' Tawny asked confused, she had accepted the prior events took place and was confused at the presence of the small bird she loved here with her. She noted a small object at the birds feet, a scroll, along with a locket, written on ancient and worn parchment. She picked it up and read;

' In light of occasions and sacrifices made, the brotherhood of light
has consented to the request of a new Daedayre.

The Daedayre has now fulfilled all the necessary laws
- passing -sacrifice -compassion -love -acceptance
required to complete the ritual... and shall continue to exist
under the name Tawny .... '

More information followed on the scroll about her task and the ritual that followed but she watched and smiled as Shakespeare took flight and landed on her shoulder. She rubbed the plumage at his back gratefully and in the full knowledge that this bird was special. A small feather escaped his feathery ranks and was drifting upon the air and landing in her palm.

She raised the pocket from the perch where Shakespeare showed, and placed the feather inside before hanging the locket around her neck. Suddenly she was made aware of a beating heart...her heart, and everything seemed to Vanish into the sound.

She woke from her slumber laying in the woods at the bottom of her garden, the wind gushed through her hair and she was astounded. didnt she just die? Had Shakespeare really brought her back? it seemed impossible, but the locket around her waist and the scroll in her hand was evidence enough. she looked at the bird who nudged the scroll with his head, as if she should read. And she did.

'As part of the contract the Daedayre must leave the old life
behind them and instead follow their journey, taking the
companion along.
Two become one, where one falls so not does one but all.'

And so Tawny and Shakespeares lives became conjoined, happily up till this day.

Watching the mans clothing almost evlve in front of her she wondered who actually this man was, and why she was so interested. Upon hearing the 'beautiful comment' she just looked down at the ground and smiled before politely putting the mans seemingly nervous behaviour to restby saying 'That kind of you to say, sir' as her head raised once more her cheeks were flooded not overbearingly however with colour.

'Have you a need of me now that you seemed to have rejuvinated? I do find myself weary of my days travels and would like to rest.'

Tawny simply turned and stepped into a light and beautifully green part of the glen where a large tree covered in oak swept into the earth. a small crevice in the tree seemed perfect for Tawnys wishes and that was just to sit and relax.

she sat back towards the tree and head rested to one side, her bright eyes only exaggerated by the soft twinkling of the sun and her hair hung boundingly around her shoulders. With her knees raised andfingerspicking a small daisy. she sighed relievingly. back at home in the wild.

Tawny breathed in the atmosphere around her, the smell of fresh grass ensnared her senses, she turned her head to the man now sitting next to her, 'No not at all, its quite nice to have some company,'she said truthfully. Her little owl was happy, she was comfortable, so anything on top of that was a bonus. 'So handsome, do you live around here then.' she teased softly showing clearly she sensed his interest and also the fact she wasnt deterring it either. but she wasnt one for doing anything to suddenly. She smiled half in his direction and felt the dribs and drabs of everyday life fall from her mind.

''Thats thoughtful, so how does your training contribute to that?' she asked wondering how, and what walk of life he used his combat skills. 'Are you a military man Nexus?'

Tawny saw the sullen look on Nexus's face, it wasnt something she wanted to see on him, it wasnt right somehow. She rearranged her bodyweight and positioned her head on his shoulder. 'You dont have to talk about it, im sorry i brought it up but being a general is very impressive Nexus, you should be proud.'she soothed and she took his hand with one of her own and held onto it comfortingly close to her chest.

Suddenly surprised at his emotional outburst in such a relaxed atmosphere Tawny pulled back and made sure her personal boundaries were her own... in a much more displeasing tone than the one she had just used she replied...

'I'm sorry, i just thought.... nevermind. Shakespeare come on were going.' she called to her little owl and immideately the little dot in the sky begun getting bigger and more defined. 'I only wanted you to be happy, and as for what i am, its nothing i wish to talk about.' She had liked Nexus and it was a shame that it couldnt have just been as easy as sitting there under the tree and enjoying the moment.

She got to her feet and dusted herself off as Shakespeare dropped down in a graceful landing at her shoulder.

Tawny sighed as she turned back to him, and as she saw his smile she couldnt help but smirk slightly. She repositioned herself at the base of the tree 'Sit with me, Nexus, please?.' She decided he was worth at least one more chance.

'might cost you a kiss' Tawny said once more with the continued teasing tone to her voice, she felt safe with him, comforted at the same time she could have a laugh with him, she just had to be careful not to hit the sensitive issues that would undoubtedly come up in the future. as she said her cheeky comment she looked up into his hopeful green eyes with a 'come and get me look.'

Tawny took a moment to get her bearings, his lips over hers felt warm and smooth, and ....well right. She gave herself a moment to bring her focus back to reality before she responded, and in doing so she placed a delicate finger to his lips and then brushed his cheek with the back of her hand, 'A girl could get used to that.' her heart was beating loud and with a yearning for another but no, she may not have been physically strong, but her mental strength outweighed it. 'Lets hope little shakespeare didn't see, he might get jealous,' and as if on cue the bird flew down and onto Nexus's back and gave him a sharp back on the back of the ear, to which she giggled.

Nexus flinched from the attack. Expecting that that wasn't at all a coincidence. He let the owl stay on his back, letting the owl have at it till he was satisfied, or told to stop....Nexus looked at his dragon, who was mumbling a snappy remark about being able to do better. Nexus rolled his eyes. "As if Drewleth.."

He turned and looked at the seductive lady again, realizing what was going to happen..."When do you want to go to eat? We could go today or tomorrow?"

'Shakespeare, give the guy a break...' She stopped as she saw the owl turn his head towards her and continued, 'okay, yes okay he almost killed you, and im fully aware of the consequences. Please love i can look after myself more than you think.' The little owl flew off towards Drewleth, and Tawny's attention turned to Nexus once more. 'I'm sorry, hes a little overprotective of me.' as she heard his question she took a minute to think...'Well i dont have anything planned so whatever works for you' she rested her head once gain at his shoulder and just sunk away into bliss with fond memories of a kiss just gone.

A howling screech, and the growing sound of footsteps rebounded off the outside of The Drunken Griffon. The doors hinges groaned in protest as ,once more, they were forced from their slumber. The delicate fingers of a young lady quivered slightly, as she peered into the gloomy depths of the bar. 'Here we go again sweetie,' she sighed to apparently noone.

Tawny stepped cautiously onto the floorboards and her eyes flicked from corner to crevice in search of signs of life. Upon realising it was relatively quiet she reopend the door and a white flash of feathers, burst through the gaping doorway and settled at her shoulder.

The vast and decorative nature of the casino intimidated Tawny to some extent. Her eyes cast across the room to the many figures, betting their life savings on the outcome of stupid games. On her shoulder perched Shakespeare the small yet pristine Tawny owl. 'Come on love, she said as she stepped up the steps towards the doors.

Tawnys small yet exentuated figure almost glided through the doors She stopped removed the hood from her head and allowed the black sheening curls to flow around her neck. Her eyes squinted in the artificial light, and she decided it was time for a drink. 'Come on Shakespeare,' she said eyeing the doormen just daring them to make a fuss of her small friend. As soon as they turned their heads, she smiled and snidely remarked 'Thats what i thought.'

Jeremy quickly came as some more patrons entered. "Hello, my name is Jeremy Tarosi, its a pleasure having you here at our Grand Opening! We have some entertainment scheduled now and for tonight, we have some open rooms not yet reserved or taken, and over there is the Casino floor. We also have a five star restaurant, a bar, and a friendly staff that you can ask them, or me, for anything you might want or need".

He then looked at the woman with the owl. "We allow pets here, but please make sure he doesn't make too much of a mess please".

Jeremy noticed a shady looking man, and he went over to him and talked for about a minute before the man left. He then returned to greeting and helping others as if nothing was wrong.

Tawny, looked somewhat up at Jeremy, he seemed nice enough. I was hoping to stay tonight but im actually after information...' she hesitated slightly. 'What if there weren't people who could help her' 'Mr...Larosi was it? Im looking for someone that can explain to me the purpose of a Daedayre' she said in a hurry as though a slight relief had passed when shed finished. 'Its information, that means alot to me, and i was hoping someone could help.' she stepped back slightly and the small gleaming locket shined slightly in the direction of Jeremy.

Dori smiled at the young man before her and nodded. "Thank you. I'll be sure to stay for... everything." she said with a small smile, taking a drink of her water that had been served to her but moments before. She then turned to her brother, who hadn't moved very far. "Spiral, why don't you socialize with people? But do remember not to be too creepy." she said.

Spiral looked to his sister and slowly shook his head. "Actually, dear sister. I must go. There are important matters to take care of."

"You're not leaving me here alone, are you?"

"Of course not. Brian will be here any second now."

As if on que, another large portal opened in a less brilliant flash of light, and a young man who looked to be fifteen years old stepped through. He looked almost the same as Spiral, only he was shorter and wasn't wearing a suit. He wore a standard black outfit and shoes; the outfit had dark blue trim. Around his neck was a choker necklace with a small pendant in the shape of a galaxy, the core of which glowed dimly.

"You called, Father?" the boy asked.

"Yes I did. Brian, I need you to take care of your aunt for me. Think you can do that?" Spiral asked. Judging by the way he talked to Brian, and based on the way that the boy talked to him, anyone could obviously see that the young man was the son of Spiral.

"As you wish, Father." Brian said with a small bow as his father, the God of Space itself, walked through the portal and out of the bar. The portal closed quietly and the young man walked up to Dori. "Hello, Auntie." he said to her, a small smile on his face. His eyes were half open, giving the impression that he was tired, depressed, or really bored.

Dori hugged her nephew. "Hello, Brian. How are you?" she asked him.

The boy shrugged. "I'm doing alright." he said. After a few minutes of idle chit chat with his aunt, he turned and looked around with his own dark blue almost purple eyes. They scanned every individual, both visible and invisible, and then passed over to the next person. He then walked away a little bit before sitting at a table and pulling out a notebook, sketching something in it. The cover of the notebook had a spiral design on it, forming a galaxy, and it too glowed dimly.

Though, Brian wasn't sketching from just pure imagination. He was sketching someone in the bar right at the moment, and every now and again, his half open and lazy eyes would leave the paper to glance at Tawny and her owl companion. It had only been about a minute and a half, but already he had basically outlined the entire sketch, and was starting to ad in the major details of the sketch.

"A Daedayre? I think I remember hearing about that before...hmmm. It was awhile ago..." Jeremy mentioned, thinking for a moment while helping another Patron find the Casino floor. "Ah yes. I think I remember a boy mentioning something about one. I know him because he has been to the library a lot recently. New in town I think. I think he said his name was...Liam was it? Liam Mitchell. He seemed a bit odd though, talking to himself sometimes. He seemed really fascinated by magic and what not.

"I suppose you would find him at the library. Or the Antongrad Seaside School of Scholarship. Though, I would be careful. Some things I hear about him seems to suggest he is just a nice kid, but others...well, I myself have never seen him behave like what the others say".

Jeremy tried to stay informed on the goings on in the city. He listened to gossip, heard rumors, all that stuff. He was fairly successful, too.

Jeremy looked at Brian as well, and quickly went over to him. "My name is Jeremy Tarosi. Would you like something to drink or eat? The Casino floor is that way, and the hotel rooms are that way. We also have some entertainment for tonight if your interested".

He faced Tawny again. "Do you need anything else? We have some rooms available if you need a place to stay".

Tawny smiled softly, 'Thank you Jeremy, I'll be sure to look for him and really appreciate your help. If there is anything i can do in retur...' her words stopped suddenly as an unease flittered into the back of Tawny's mind. She looked around cautiously and,as if on cue, Shakespeare took flight.

Tawny squealed slightly in embarassment, as the bird drifted effortlessly around the casino.

'I'm really sorry,' she said to Jeremy as her eyes followed the bird. Shakespeare began to descend and attempted to lift a book from the grasp of a young man named Brian.

Felicity quickly lost interest in Alice, and turned her attention away to the rest of the room again. It seemed that there was quite the gathering, with a massive man right next to her, and a pair that just appeared in the center of the room. She only glanced at some girl with an owl. There was a young man again, who apparently saw fit to pay for everyone's drinks, and seemed just as interesting as everyone else. Honestly, the good mood the young guy was in, was probably a good opportunity to gather information.

The blonde broke away from the bar to move over to sit next to Tom, offering a warm smile, and an aura of attraction again,"Hey there. Guess you got lucky on the slots. Thank you for the free drink, maybe I could do something nice for you in return?" She paused for a moment, just long enough to make it unclear of what exactly she meant,"I'm visiting the area, on business, and I wondered if you were familiar with the town."

As she spoke she raised her shoulders slightly and tucked in her chin, playing up a bashfulness, as if she was perfectly naive and clueless. Her skin glittered lightly, and her eyes sparkled, every bit of her seeming to be made of some sort of precious metal in its soft glow. Even without her passive aura, she was fairly attractive by human standards.

He then went over, congratulated Thomas on his winnings, then made his way over to the girl and hew owl again to resolve this issue with the book.

Char walked in calmly and jumped up to a seat at the bar, looking around, he was unsure why he chose to come to this place. He wasn't in need of food or drink, and he didn't have any physical currency upon him. He just sat calmly at the bar stool looking around at the people. He assumed that the man in charge of the place was currently busy, so he just sat at the stool quietly.

Brian looked up at Jeremy "I'm fine, thank you. It's nice to meet -" He suddenly tossed his book behind him, and it vanished in mid air as Shakespeare tried to take his book from him.

"Why did you have to go and do that? You ruined my drawing." he pouted, crossing his arms while looking at the owl before him.

Dori then turned and watched the situation, walking over to Tawny. "I see your owl has taken to meeting my nephew, Brian. Who was probably sketching you out of boredom." she said with a polite tone. "Oh, where are my manners? I am Dori Clockwork. Goddess of Time." she said with a bow. "And Brian is my nephew, the son of the God of Space." she said. She gestured for Brian to come closer, and he was suddenly next to them, standing within arms reach as if he had just teleported.

The young blue haired man looked at Tawny and gave her a bow. "Brian James, son of the God of Space. At your service." he said. Instead of shaking her hand like a normal human being (Which he wasn't even Human), he would gently clasp her hand in his and bring it to his lips, kissing the top of her hand gently.

After the introductions, Brian looked Tawny in the eye and would proceed to ask "Does your owl not like being drawn?" in a polite tone.

Tawny's beloved companion arched wildly through the air, drained by the weight of the book, and after a few close shaves with various fixtures and fittings, the owl returned to her shoulder to perch.
