Battleship
Image

Battleships are truly massive starships, equipped with enormous numbers of weapons and potent Void Shields, and usually serve as the flagship for an Imperial Lord Admiral, though this is not always the case. Although very powerful, Battleships are slow and cumbersome to manoeuvre. The Imperial Navy employs three main classes of Battleship: the Emperor (which can carry an immense amount of Attack Craft in addition to its normal weaponry),the Victory (known for its heavy Lance batteries) and the Retribution (which is noted for its powerful broadside firepower and its large number of torpedo tubes). The Battleships of Battlefleet Armageddon are based on the older Apocalypse and Oberon-classes. Other Segmentae's battlefleets may rely on yet other starship classes, but the Emperor and more recent Retribution-class vessels are by far the most common Battleship classes in the Imperial Navy. Imperial Battleships can have crews of anywhere between 25,000 to 3,000,000 men or more depending on the source consulted, including large numbers of Imperial Navy armsmen (marines in modern parlance) to defend against enemy boarding assaults. Battleships can be up to 8 kilometres from prow to stern and displace billions of tons. Because they represent such a vast expenditure of resources to construct and require a fairly advanced technical base to maintain, Battleships are typically constructed only in the largest Imperial shipyards in orbit of the major Adeptus Mechanicus Forge Worlds. These vessels are precious assets of the Imperium and are carefully husbanded, usually employed in only the larger fleet formations and the most critical engagements.

For the Imperial Navy officer class (admirals, captains, commanders, first lieutenants, etc.) on board, an entire section of a large Battleship's command deck may be divided into huge, luxurious staterooms, with vast bedrooms, offices and wardrobes, bathrooms and toilets mirroring those of an Imperial Planetary Governor's palace, and even harems of concubines and handmaidens. Lower-class bridge officers and chief petty officers would have fairly large, moderately luxurious quarters, and the armsmen, mid-class crewmen and petty officers would all have decent accommodation, generally consisting of a sleeping area, chemical toilet and storage locker. However, the bottom-class enlisted conscripts and slave ratings would have little more than a flea-infested sleeping pallet and a single toilet shared between ten ratings.

Grand Cruiser
Image
Grand Cruisers are smaller than Battleships, yet larger than Cruisers. These vessels are usually much older in design and do not incorporate many of the features that are typical in the more current classes of Imperial Navy vessels, like the armoured prow, and are not quite compatible with current Imperial Navy tactical doctrine. As such, many are retired from active duty, but are still used by the Imperial Navy's reserve fleets. The Avenger-class, with its powerful broadside firepower, is one such example of a Grand Cruiser. There are also some modernised versions of Grand Cruisers in active service, but since these are much larger and more heavily-armed than their predecessors, they are more often classed at present as Battleships. These kinds of vessels are usually purpose-built or modified from Battlecruiser hulls and are not commonly encountered in the Imperial Navy.

Cruiser

Cruisers make up the majority of an Imperial Navy fleet. Though not as powerful as a Battleship, Cruisers are much faster and can still deliver a deadly blow. There are multiple classes of Cruiser, most based on the same general hull design but incorporating different combinations of broadside batteries, Lance turrets and Attack Craft hangars. Examples include the all-round, ubiquitous Lunar-class, the Gothic-class with its powerful Lances and the Dictator-class Attack Craft carrier. Cruisers can carry a crew complement of anywhere between 10,000 and 1,000,000 crewmen (including Imperial Navy armsmen and military police squads), depending on the sources consulted. While Cruisers are still particularly technologically complex, it is not uncommon for them to be constructed on smaller Forge Worlds or any Civilised World that has an orbital shipyard suitable for constructing vessels of their large size. Of particular note was the Lunar-class Cruiser Lord Daros, constructed in orbit above the Feral World of Unloth in 11 Terran years by relying on the forced labour of most of that planet’s population for materials.

A note on Imperial warship classes: while naval warships can be defined along a fairly limited number of classes based on weapon configurations approved by the Adeptus Mechanicus, the physical form these vessels take varies widely throughout the Imperium. For example, a Lunar-class Cruiser constructed above Cypra Mundi in the Segmentum Obscurus may bear little resemblance to a Lunar-class Cruiser constructed above Kar Durniash in the Ultima Segmentum and even less so to a Lunar constructed among the vast shipyards of Mars' Ring of Iron. Nonetheless, they will all have roughly the same operating characteristics and weapons configuration, and thus can be easily serviced by any orbital facility throughout Imperial space.

Note there are also classes of Battlecruisers. Although based on a hull-design that is similar to the regular Cruiser types, these starships are generally somewhat larger and more heavily armed, incorporating more advanced power distribution systems capable of supporting Battleship-grade weaponry in a Cruiser hull. A notable example is the Mars-class Battlecruiser, with its fighter bays, broadside batteries, dorsal Lance turrets and an immense, prow-mounted Nova Cannon capable of attacking targets at extremely long range.

A subset of the Cruiser type is the Light Cruiser. These warships fall in size between Cruisers and Escorts, mixing the firepower and durability of the former with the speed and manoeuvrability of the latter. The Dauntless-class is a very common Light Cruiser class in the Imperial Navy. Extremely self-sufficient, it is fast and has enough firepower to be a threat to Escorts and larger capital ships alike. There are other classes of Light Cruiser in common use in the Imperial Navy, most notably the Endeavour-class, which serves in varied forms and hull types throughout the Imperium. Light Cruisers are a fairly common warship class, for they are relatively simple to construct for a capital ship, and they are uniquely suited for reconnaissance patrols and for ensuring a presence where their speed and manoeuvrability are an advantage, and where having a larger number of smaller hulls allows the Imperial Navy to monitor a wider area of space.

Ironclad

Ironclads, much like their contemporary Imperial Navy counterparts, the Battleships, are vast, 8-kilometre-long vessels which lack the Void Shielding of their Battleship counterparts in favour of metres of adamantium plate armour. These warships, built before the advent of Void Shield technology, have since been phased out of production by the Imperium to be replaced by more modern designs. However, those remaining in service have been recommissioned for a variety of purposes; various pattern Ironclads may be retrofitted with a gargantuan, ship-, station- and even planet-killer cannon running the entire length of the ship's keel, linked directly to the stern fusion reactors; others may simply be braced and reinforced for the purpose of ramming into -- and through -- enemy vessels. These starships are rare in the Imperial Navy, due to their archaic design and the lack of facilities still capable of repairing them at existing Forge Worlds, let alone manufacturing new ones.

Escort Ship

Escort ships are the smallest type of warship in the Imperial Navy's fleets, found in two distinct sub-classes. The larger of the two sub-classes of Escorts are Frigates, which are better armed and more heavily armoured than other Escorts. Destroyers are generally smaller than Frigates, but they are by far the fastest and most manoeuvrable interstellar warships employed by the Imperial Navy. They are usually organised in squadrons of 2 to 6 vessels and will always operate as a group or "wolf pack." The main task of Escorts is to serve as a screen for capital starships against enemy torpedoes and Attack Craft so that they can get into position more quickly and safely. They are also employed behind the gun line to finish off enemy Cruisers that have been damaged so that the larger vessels can concentrate on the most dangerous capital ship threats in an enemy formation. Most Escort classes specialise in a certain role, such as the Cobra-class torpedo boat Destroyers or the Firestorm-class Frigate with its armour-piercing prow-mounted Lance. Escorts are normally not more than 1.5 kilometres in length, with Destroyers generally being only 750 metres to 1.5 kilometres from prow to stern.

So begins...

Adsiltia listened to the Captains reply and she soon rose from the throne to walk towards the front of the bridge, speaking as she went. Her voice was heavily synthetic due to her machine upgrades but nonetheless, there was no hint of malice or betrayal in her voice as she moved.

"Ahh someone with some civility. Excellent...I was hoping to engage with you in a dialogue of sorts face to face. I believe there is a situation brewing here in this galaxy that might be of interest to both yourselves and Chaos. A chance perhaps to end a mutual threat together rather then apart. I request permission to speak face to face with you. My Ark is open to you and I grant you safe passage should you desire to join me here on my decks. I believe this might be too good an offer to refuse"

She replied, tapping several commands onto a console towards the pilot's dash. Several squads of Skittarii would move towards the hangar bays to the aft section of the ship while she gave the orders for her ships to shift formation into a forward facing triangle with the Ark at the lead.

"My aft hangar bay is open and you may bring a contingent of your forces with you for personal defense. I will have my Skittarii as surveillence and as my guard. Will you take a chance Imperium or will you, once again, fail to heed advice given to you and go about your own way? I offer a kindness...and a chance to destroy a threat to the both of us"

The captain gripped his arm of the chair, if they wanted to kill them they would have blasted them apart the second they saw them. A face to face meeting though...at least he would feel at ease with some soldiers by his side. But he knew that going up against a Skittarii would not end well for them. However, what sort of threat would threaten them both to warrant an alliance of this?...Tyranids? No...They have not seen any sign of them so far and they wanted it to stay that way.

"Prepare a contingent of Storm Troopers, we will be heading to the Chaos ship personally..." The man spoke as he proceeded to the hanger. In any case even if they were to be attacked at the very least they can take some of them with them.

There in the hanger a ten man squad of Stormtroopers armed with hellguns each entered a Valkaryie transport and began to head to the Innovation's Result.

“because attacking me would get you nowhere but your own destruction...even that ship in the sky can’t harm me, and as for what i am, i am a C’tan a being as old as the creation of the universe itself, this form i have, was created by an ancient race known as the Necrontyr. One could say i’m just a mockery of such ancient beasts.”

Mag’ladroth had finished digging out the rubble he had been busying himself with and began scooping up wounded and unconscious civilians, laying them down for the TLA medics to tend to the people he had dug free.

“Priestess, i am Mag’ladroth… now let us not waste anymore time, keep your ship's guns aimed at me if you so wish.” he continued digging through rubble never moving to place his weight on any unexposed road or cleared area.

Adsiltia watched the Auspex track their movements and nodded once to herself while turning towards the doorway.

"Have a the lead ships target their command cruiser but do not fire. I want to see if this meeting will actually progress somewhere towards the destruction we seek"

The Pilots nodded as she teleported down to the Hangar bay, now empty as they prepared for the arrival of the Valkaryie transport to arrive. She was completely alone, holding her Omnisiaah Axe in one hand, her Melta Gun in her other and her Plasma Cavalier in her tail just in case the meeting did end up going sour. She was going to be ready for an engagement just in the off chance it failed.

As the transport flew closer, they could feel the crosshairs on them as the ships loomed over them ominously. Their reports would come in that the ships were lining up shots yet not one round was fired. Simply a countermeasure just incase something went awry. It would be sometime before they would arrive at the Hangar and docked within it with the Magos standing there, in full regalia and colors with her helmet off and watching each of them with a Servo Skull on her shoulder.

"You came. Welcome to the Innovation's Result. I am Magos Adsiltia. Would you care for some refreshment? Tea perhaps?" She asked, giving a bow to the group as they entered. Soon the Skittarii would arrive and set up defensive positions with Adsiltia raising a hand

"Dont mind them. Standard procedure Im sure you can understand"

As the ship landed, the Stormtroopers tooks position around the ship in defensive locations. For the captain himself he was dressed in the standard issued Imperial Naval uniform. He looked at the Magos who offered him refreshments? By the EMperor this was not a normal day.

"Forgive me when I am not jumping at that proposal considering that we both are mortal enemies for millennium. And that you wish to drown the universe in blood and war. Let us keep this quick and simple, the less time I spend on this warp tainted ship the less I have to worry about purging my own self." The captain spoke standing still and straight.

"Very well"

Adsiltia said as she tapped her axe's base onto the ground twice and the Skittarii lowered their weapons as she approached the man, wings unfurling then closing as they settled themselves onto her back. Her Meltagun activated but remained down at her side as the Servo Skull floated off of her shoulder and went about the Valkyrie to inspect it.

"I have heard rumors that there has been a group calling itself the Aschen attacking your boarders as of late. This is troubling news indeed...I believe you have enough on your plates as is. In the spirit of cooperation, I wish to extend to you a piece of information to do with what you will. In exchange, I wish for you to consider a single prospect for me. Just one entertainment of an idea"

She held up a single finger and then pointed to the man.

"A very simple excersise that helped me when I was in need of some deep thinking. What do you say? Will you listen to my query and hear my information Imperium of Man? Believe me when I say I do not care for either Chaos or the Imperium. I serve my Lord because grants me the freedom to choose"

A tone came to her face, making her sound rather pleasant as she opened up her robes to show the power armor underneath slightly then closed her robes once again.

"What say you then?"

The troops looked at each other for a moment before Priestess shouted "Now!" They then scattered searching the city with renewed hope.

"Why do you aid us when the other destroyed us?" Priestess asked Mag'ladroth.

The Captain stood still, however as the Magos came closer a bead of sweat dripped from his face. Neither Chaos nor Imperium, she served Chaos just to have freedom? However she offered him a piece of information for his consideration on a single prospect. Now what information would she give them, at least they were not Eldar who always speak in riddles and nonsense.

"Then speak your query. I will entrain your thoughts for a bit then..."

"Is the Emperor a Man or a God?"

She asked very simply, placing her Melta around her side and set it on her back. She soon took another few steps forward and raised her hand to snap her fingers, a flash of light appeared behind both him and two chairs had been brought behind them. Adsiltia sat herself down in the chair and gestured for him to do the same.

"I have learned in my quest for knowledge that the Emperor is many things: A revolutionary, a hero, a visionary. But he is no God. He is but a corpse now on some distant throne and while he speaks to you through the Tarot, he is no divine"

The magos reclined backwards into her chair, now fully relaxed as her tail hefted her plasma cavalier onto her lap and her wings folded comfortably against herself while she continued.

"I have learned of something called The Imperial Truth, a philosophy made by the Emperor Himself during the Great Crusade. It says that there is no God or divinity of the sort. That in order to advance, we must believe in Science and the power of Mankind. Yet you look upon the Imperium, what do you see? Or rather what dont you see? I serve Tzeentch...but not out of any devotion to the Lord of Fate. He prides those who seek out and understand knowledge. The Lord of Fates plans and schemes for his own grand design and I know that in some small part, we all play a part in it. I serve Tzeentch for the freedom of choice"

Sil chuckled a dry chuckle as she leaned forward in her seat

"I had no choice when I served with the Adeptus Mechanicus. My mind is always hungry, filled to find and discover knowledge of any sort. The Warp, Chaos, Xenos, Archeotechnology...anything and everything I could ever get my hands on. I wanted to do the one thing that the Mechanicus considers heretical: Innovate. When I made my first device, I was branded a Heretek. Now, I serve as a Magos of my very own Forge World...would I have ever achieved this during my time served in the Mechanicus?" She asked

"Tell me, can you choose? You look at how the Imperium is crumbling...stagnation and religious dogma drive the Imperium ever onwards towards its own demise. Science and Intellect is squandered within it's boarders and yet...you serve. You see the advances of Chaos and how our Engines are merely unstoppable. Yet you serve faithfully as a son of the Emperor. Answer me this question after taking in all of this information and answer me from the bottom of your heart:

Is the Emperor a Man or a God?"

“...” he didn’t really know himself to be truthful, but it felt like he had to “erasing old sins” a few hundred people saved wasn’t going to change the fact he consigned untold billions to destruction in millennia past.
Carving a pathway for himself through the rubble as he moved forward always careful of people to be saved, the thought of simply reversing the effects of the battle, erasing the damage dealt from time was all to alluring.

But no that would threaten the sanity and Terrans of the TLA, continuing to aid them by shifting larger columns and lumps of rubble, so the smaller beings could get into the gaps and pull anyone free, for now Mag’ladroth’s presence denied the shadow any souls, his presence alone a nullifier to magics and psykers alike, only those he didn’t want using magic that is and so he refrained from nullifying and blocking the TLA mages from their powers.

Coming to the edge of a crater he’d look into it and around “such barbaric fools the lot of them. his head turned back towards Priestess. “i must ask what the goals of your liberation army are?” he waited at the edge of the crater looking back into it as the water pipes and sewage drained into it filling the bottom. Sadly for the void dragon, he had a sense of smell.

There was no hesitation, and no pause for though. "The Emperor is but man, he is no god. He has stated as such from back in the old days, and from these days he has made it official we look upon him as a leader, not as a god. To lern from him, and to fix our mistakes." The captain spoke.

"No matter what we face, we face all threats in his name. Be it man, Gods or the daemons below we fight all that threaten man and the universe. The Emperor has gifted us with the means to continue to fight, to see mankind evolve to the point where man can fight all threats and carve their own path to their own fate but his status on the throne set the events of a slow downfall of humanity."

"Fro the past I witnessed a falling empire, but in the present I see a shining beacon in the darkness purging the shadows. We of the Imperium as being rebuilt once again, we are being led into a new golden age far surpassing the Dark Age of Technology. Our beginning has just started, and with a leader of man, the leader of mankind to lead the path once again. This time we of the Imperium will need not fear nor will we see him as God. He is but man same as us all..."

Adsiltia sat for a moment and contemplated his words, optics narrowing if only slightly. His words were pleasent to her ears and she soon looked up and lifted two fingers to her faceplate. She drew them up in the form of a smile, having no lips with which to do so on her own before she let out a bout of laughter.

"Good! Very good! I am glad one of the Imperium finally makes sense. I am quite estatic to see that one has learned of the Imperial Truth as I have. Thank you for answering my question" Adsiltia and snapped her fingers and soon a Skittarii approached the Captain, a Dataslate in hand as he held it out to him.

"The forces of the Crimson Slaughter plan to stage an offensive against the Aschen Empire within the coming weeks. When and where they will strike, I do not know. But this presents us with a unique chance to squash a common foe and for you to plan an offensive of your own. That dataslate contains what information I know of and that you may bring to your superiors. Do with this information as you see fit. I shant be getting involved with the war against the Aschen. Bare this in mind, it also bears a way to contact me again. Should you wish to talk more with the Dark Mechanicus, feel free to. Or dont, the choice is yours"

Adsiltia stood up from her chair and bowed her head in respect

"Now do you have any questions before you depart?"

The Dataslate would be almost complete save for the usage of the Armageddon Gun in their plans. It also didnt have any numbers of how many Crimson Slaughter ships were to take place in the attack or troops under their command.

The Captian stood still, hearing the woman laugh and...was estatic to learn he knew the Imperial Truth as well? This knowledge should have been more common, especially in the Guard and some members of the Space Marines. He was...not sure what to think, but all he knew was that Chaos planned to invade the Aschen Empire. Using their foes to also invade a foe that hides the truth...That sounded like an opportunity.

"I have...no questions that needs to be asked...I wont say thanks to a member of Chaos, but the information will be useful...We should depart and return to our duties then..." The Captain gave an uneasy salute and returned back on his transport and the Stormtroopers also boarded the ship and took off back to the ship.

Adsiltia returned the salute but, after he began to turn she addressed him again.

"Captain..."

She said, the air around her rippled for a moment of psykic energy for just a moment then faded away as she took a single step back and held out a hand in farewell.

"Keep your eyes ever open. Should you see what lies behind the veil, come find me again. Id be more then happy to fully open your eyes to see what truly lies in store. Emperor protect you"

The Magos waved him farewell and soon bade him off of her ship. Once he was away, the ships of her fleet departed all save the Ark Mechanicus which hung there until the Valkeryie was safely aboard his vessel then the Ark moved back like a predator in the jungle, disappearing into the Warp without so much as a second glance.

This year was going to be full of surprises and they knew. "Call the secondary fleet and have them begin construction on the space fort in this sector. Use the moons as orbital guns, this entire sector must be completely secured."

With that, the Imperial assets in the sector resumed their tasks as normal.

For now you are welcome in Imperial space, do not cause trouble while you are here and we will not cause you trouble..." There were also massive space stations in orbit armed with a massive Nova Cannon Armament.

As the unknown fleet sends their attack on the Gardens. The Cities Void Shielding easily displaced the would be attack that would have destroyed the Gardens. Of course this attack was an attack on the Imperium Of Man itself. An attack unprovoked? There would be fatal consequences.

"Attention hostile fleet, consider your lives forfeit now. This is Battlefleet Terran of the Imperium Of Man. From this moment onwards you are considered an enemy. May the Emperor have mercy on your souls." The Fleet Admiral voxed the enemy fleet and right after he finished speaking he gave the Word..."All ships fire...leave none alive..."

Image

In an instant the Imperial Navy opens fire with Frontal Lance batteries. A few Cruisers begin to rotate Broadside and began to pound the enemy fleet with Heavy Bombardment Cannons. Other ships began to fire torpedoes at the enemy fleet. A few Space Marine Vessels, Mainly Strike Cruisers began to close the distance on the enemy fleet, using the Fleets massive firepower as a screen for their advance. The Emperors Angels of death, The mighty space marines prepared in the Telliportarium. Armed in mighty power armor, and armed with their mighty Boltgun. These weapons fired 1.00 caliber rocket propelled, uranium tipped rounds.

These heavily armed and armored superhumans were ready to commence boarding action as soon as possible once they got into range. Either from using the Telliportarium to easily access the enemy ships or via tactical insertion by Thunderhawk transports after they blast a hole in the enemy ships.

Of course...that is if the enemy fleet could withstand the brutal assault first...

On the ground of course, Imperial assets on the ground scrambled to defensive location and the Men at the Garden soon recived new orders. "All units report. Terra is under attack! All units scramble to defensive locations. Prepare for any hostile ground action immediantly. Imperial Command out!"

With that, the Guardsman reluctantly began to pull away from surrounding the dragon. "You heard Command! Double time it men! We are under attack!" The Imperial Officer yelled as the Imperial forces began to pull back from the area.

Teddy had flinched when the orbital sonic weapon fire had collided with the shields. He had fallen onto his rear, looking up, in this one instance, in one breath of a living being, all hell had broken loose. He looked up at the sky and to the engaging fleets, and felt utterly helpless. All he could do here was to watch. He sat there for a while, before regaining his wits and resuming a stance.

He looked over to Ebba, and then to the guards. He was going to regret this... It was an act of suicide at best and worst, but the threshold of desperation had been crossed...

He then called out to them as he had begun to walk out of his hiding place, hands in the air to signify that he was going peacefully. "Hey!" He called, hoping to get their attention, "I want to help fight against this threat! Like it or not, it will kill us all on the incredible chance that it should wipe us all out!"

He stood out, now in open view of everybody there. "This attacking fleet, will it make us all brothers?" He asked, looking at the guardsmen, Ebba, and the dragon-born.

The unknown star fleet lets rip to the horn but this time it sounds like a air raid siren. A anti-balistic and round sheild goes up, and has enough charge for all of the fleet to evac. They start to charge up the thrusters in hopes of saftey from the 75 cruisers. In the back of the star fleet they start to send drop pods onto the surface, knowing that some will be killed during the drop. The unkown soldiers wear knight-like power armor that is mainly black, with blue strieks put onto it custimizably. The troopers are equipped with lasguns and anti-aircraft weopens. One pod that is droping was much more protected and larger than the rest.
