The darkest nightmares of humanity's subconscious given horrifying life. These abominations and their agents exist only to spread agony and fear.

Description

One of the most persistent ghost stories and urban legends is that of The Maiden. Known also as Bloody Mary, the Weeping Woman, the Grey Lady, the Woman in Black and She-Who-Takes, her's is a story with many variations. Ever consistent, however are the following details: In life, she possessed ravishing beauty, her death involved betrayl at the hands of her lover and another woman, and anyone who enters a darkened room alone, and stands before a mirror, then chants her name thrice shall invoke her murderous wrath.
While versions of such punish differ with each take on her tale, most commonly she is said to tear the eyes from those who see her, especailly pretty young girls, whom remind her of her lover's betrayl. Nearly every version of her attacks involve a great deal of blood.

While once she was indeed a mere urban legend (though quite possibly inspired by a strain or two of truth), The Maiden is now an all-too-real entity of terrifying and deadly power, having been birthed by the mass subconscious via the Nightmare Storm as one of the horrorific Manifest Fears. While not thought to be as powerful or mysterious as The Faceless, or as visceral and sadistic as The Rake, the Maiden is by far the most mobile, most known of the Manifest Fears (indeed she is a household name while her brothers are know by few outside their victims) and has perhaps the highest body count, due to the thousands of curious young people invoking her name a day (this of course bars that of the swarm-creatures, The Unending Hands as of course, there are billions more of them then there is of her). While The Maiden is sure only to claim a few of these daily so as not to prove her own existence to the world, she still rakes in enough to well exceed the count brought in by the other Manifests.

The Maiden has no known definitive weaknesses, but it is heavily believed that she cannot cross over salt or moving water and that shattering a mirror that she appears to you in, before she can strike, will blind you to her indefinitely.

So begins...

"Yes," breathed The Faceless, his voice seemingly emanating for nowhere in particular on his person. "We are alike. This is a place where we can at home. Enough fear likely permeates the dead wood here to sate you for several lifetimes." The Faceless drifted slightly closer.

"But, we can have more," the pale shade emphasized. "So much more. You consume fear, breath it in. I am born of it. I can give you as much as you would ever need simply by appearing before you. But this world," continued The Faceless, "It is so ripe. So many lives. So much cattle. We could make their every exhale one of agony and terror. We could go wherever we want, do as we please with no need to hunt or to plot. There are so many. And they are so weak."

The Faceless lifted an ivory hand before Cro's face and spread his slender fingers. A fresh wave of misery and pain seemed to rush forth from the white skin.

"I have... family," continued The Faceless. At these words, a shambling figure sauntered in from the darkness. It was skinny and hunched over, with craggy grey skin and an almost canine face. It's right hand ended in enourmous bladed claws, which glinted wetly with the redness of fresh blood. Beside the new creature, another figure appeared. It was the shape of a young woman, but slightly translucent and seemingly drained of all color. The spiderweb stains of blood trickling from her eyes, however were contrastingly vibrant. She floated several feet off the ground.

"And we all wish for the same thing. We will achieve this, for how could we not? But I sense kinship in you."

"With us you'll never ache for a meal again, no matter what desolate corner of this world you find yourself on," spoke The Maiden. "And a family protects each other." The bladed grey creature shrieked a hideous cry, something akin to a dying cat and a terrified young woman trapped in a room together. Despite this, it was grinning.

The Faceless opened his arms wide, an improbable span in itself, though now, seemingly from nowhere, entire new arms spread forth, so that he gave the look of an outstretched spider.

"Well Brother?" he asked gently. "Arn't you hungry?"

Kissing Minke felt unbelievably good. Her lips were soft and warm and her breath was sweet. When she finally pulled away, Ralph found himself unconsciously grasping his hands around where she had been for a second or too. He watched her back up from the room, giggling, a grin of his own spread wide across his face.

"Night," he mumbled, still smiling excitedly at the closed door, once she had gone.

He piled some scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage and hash browns on top of a pancake before rolling it up like a tortilla and devouring in in four or so bites. Then he turned off the TV, flopped onto the bed (harder than he intended to, causing considerable pain to his injuries), and drifted off to sleep humming Kiss Me Deadly.

He was already fast asleep when she appeared, the ghostly reflection in the mirror over the sink. Her face was pale and smooth, almost beautiful despite her sunken features. Her eyes were dark spheres of blackness nested in wet maroon sockets, dyed so by the dark blood that ran in thick, spiderweb streams down her cheeks. Those eyes, the eyes that served as a final, haunting sight for so many others, were trained on the sleeping man. She didn't blink.

But it wasn't time yet. Brother had his wishes and she would honor them. She wasn't like The Rake, so impatient. So brash. She would be better than that. She would make The Faceless proud.

The Maiden was a good sister.

#, as written by Nemo
Cro looked about himself at the ghastly horde of monstrosities. Beasts, horrors, predators of fear... all gathered together in a collective unit of terrifying unity. A family. The word was as foreign to Cro as it was aberrant. In all his wide wanderings across the universe, he'd never once had anything akin to a companion. The Callix had always worked alone, accomplishing through trickery and deceit what he could not through force and intimidation. Part of him was reluctant to trust these people. He was not a trusting creature, after all...

...but then again, who said anything about trust? Cro looked about himself at the legion of abominations and realized what a remarkable opportunity this was. No longer would he have to hide himself, resting in gutters and alleyways, scraping meals from stragglers and unfortunate mendicants. With the help of these people, these things, Cro could at last achieve the power he had so long desired. Pain. Suffering. Misery. All of it... ALL of it could be his... it would be the greatest feast he'd ever known...

"Well Brother?" he asked gently. "Aren't you hungry?"

Cro snapped up to attention, his grin wide and malicious.

"...famished."

Cuspid cursed to herself, did she lose the guy already? She spun around and sniffed 'til she spotted him. Never mind all that, they had to get out of this part of the wood. They couldn't be far off from the Castle, and from the sonar bouncing around the trees, shit was goin' down.

"Alright, once we clear these trees, it's basically a straight shot north."

"Twenty? I'll certainly make good use of twenty," She continued to twirl the ring around her finger, and had no intentions of taking it off.

"Tell me, Lord Draco, is there anything I should be wary of, regarding the Commandos?"

Draco paused for a moment as she asked if there was anything to worry about. He turned his head towards one of the Commandos, who didn't move at all. Not even a nervous twitch. "They have no sense of privacy. They will come to you when called no matter what you are doing." he looked back to Daemala. "Their silence doesn't help. If you're not actively searching for them, they'll appear next to you or behind you and you'll never know."

"If I'm not searching for them? Meaning, if I leave them behind, they will find me regardless?" She wasn't sure how she felt about all of that, and regarded the Commando with a sideways eye. They rumbled closer to the castle.
