--------------

Many thousands of years ago, great beasts and behemoths roamed the dawning world; crushing civilizations under their pure seismic might, and flattening ancient armies and cities under a single stomp of their limbs. They were monsters and titanic golems created from what Godly powers corrupted oceans and mountains at the very dawn of time; man was in despair, he could do nothing, not even run. He could only hope to live his life peacefully for as long as possible until a Colossi found and destroyed him. He was not even offered the chance to get his loved ones to safety, for death was swift and left thousands crushed and compressed into the very earth they lived on.. In a matter of minutes.

Legends played out in ancient scriptures and hieroglyphs tell of a man who was born of desert, ocean, mountain and forest. A man who wielded the famous Titan Spear, who roamed the land and slew these beasts wherever he found them. A legend born of when mother's desperate prayers for their children reached whatever Gods watched over a bleak world - doing nothing.

This man saved the world its greatest dangers, until the golems became mountains again. Until men made brick from their bones and built grand cities of the hardest rock. They called him The Precursor - the father of civilization, because he made civilization safe again. What happened to him, no-one knows... After the last of these beasts had been slain, both The Precursor and his Titan Spear disappeared from the world - leaving not a single shred of evidence as to his fate.

If only they knew...

Image

The Precursor woke... He knew not where he was, where he had been, or what he was doing. He knew not the day, or the time, or the year... But so much seemed strange around him. So many things that confused him, that he didn't understand... All he knew is that the call was gone. The call that had given him meaning and reason, kept him focused and willing to continue fighting... It was gone. He wasn't sure what to do anymore. He was... Lost.

True Name: Syros.
Title: The Precursor.
Gender: Male.
Race: Incomprehensible.

Appearance: With white hair, an athletic frame and silver eyes, the man looks young and beautiful as many of the ancient heroes of old. He wears whatever he can afford, whatever suits him and whatever is practical. He carries with him his Titan Spear at all times, despite how impractical it can sometimes be.

Weapon: The Titan Spear is a legendary weapon, unbreakable, more than twice as long as a man... And crafted from the God's own forge. Its blade can cut through a mountain, if the right man wields it... And it harnesses the element of wind to increase its cutting power to the very edge. It is complimented at its blunt end by a chain that can be clipped to his left arm. It also has a second special property, one that allows it to be stored in a sub-space of The Precursor's being so that its size does not constantly cause issues. He can also of course, 'bring it out' at will.

Skills and Abilities: With the Titan Spear in his hand, The Precursor is one to be wary of fighting if any of the legends surrounding him are true. He is capable of jumping several hundred meters in height and distance, but cannot fly. For all his strength against the Behemoths, he is limited by his size and lack of elemental manipulation. His greatest weapon is his speed, martial prowess and power over his Titan Spear.

So begins...

The golden barley fields swayed like a calm ocean and The Precursor watched from the shade of an outlying woodland, head turned just barely to the side to see birds hunting mice and the clouds surfing the wind near the horizon. He kept walking, a large spear held in his left hand as though a walking stick; a chain attached between the weapon's blunt end and a lock on the gauntlet of his left arm. Much of this chain dragged easily on the ground, but still he found himself tugging at it once in a while to get it loose from various roots and stones.

He had no idea what he was doing, where he was going, why he was there... Everything was so unrecognizable. He had been stopped earlier that day by an old woman and found a language so similar... Yet so different from his own. Even the smallest of things, like the slight change in vocal grammar, or a different pronunciation of a word was a heavy weight on his mind.

He couldn't quite bring himself out of denial, despite knowing what he was experiencing wasn't some harsh dream.

The Precursor looked upon Ebony and couldn't help but smile. Company after such a long time alone would indeed be nice - maybe this woman would be able to speak of things without the the age gap and understandable elderly arrogance that the apple-selling senior woman from before had.

He took the spear in his left hand and for a moment, both it and the chain glowed. Then, the objects disappeared to keep from becoming a nuisance; stored in a temporary sub-space so that such a long weapon didn't encumber him.

"I... Am," he finally said, though was hesitant to use those words. "This place seems familiar to me, but my memory holds no such scenery. I hoped that by taking a walk, my mind would betray to me the true reason this is so."

This woman seemed to be quite the Damsel, but he was no worth to her if her requests were anything to go by. Though, her story of a tower and monsters interested him. Surely she couldn't mean... No... When she said monsters, she must have meant evil men, perhaps, or goblins. If his own monsters had killed this "Ry'nn", then the girl before him wouldn't be there to fret over it.

"I know not of this world, I apologize," was all he could really reply with.

Once the gem-collector made his presence known, he turned towards the former Ranger and shook his head. "I don't know of 'Juniper Berries' specifically, though I have seen many on my walk through the woods."

He had questions he wanted to ask. Questions he could get answers for without the quipping of an old woman belittling him for being 'childish'. Yet this was not the time nor place. Ebony had concerns which seemed far more important than his own and then, there was the newcomer and his berries to deal with. Surely hunger was what drove him, if berries were his prize.

"I will stay for a while, for I believe I may be of some help to at least one of you."

Despite his rather good-nature, helping strangers was one of those things he had tended to avoid, so long ago.. Here though, he knew he had nothing better to do.

He too remained blissfully unaware of any sort of presence lurking in the woods, so he continued to look from the elf to the girl and listen curiously. However, when Mel spoke of going to face whatever danger had taken Ebony's friend, he suddenly seemed unsure of the extent of his involvement...

The call was gone. Was he even meant to be here? Was he meant to help anyone? Would it interfere with their fate, his own? Should he turn and walk the other way, or was it not worth getting worried over such things?

"I am not sure what I can handle..."

He kept himself mostly absent from the bulk of the conversation, except for speaking when he felt his opinion should be heard. The offer of a 'place to stay' seemed to lift his spirits though, despite knowingly having no form of currency on him.

"That would be nice of you, Sirrelf," he answered the Elf, calling him something he didn't expect to still be used. 'Sirrelf' was clearly 'Sir Elf', showing that even in the ancient times his people had been known to him. In fact, finding out that such people still lived on the world put a great ease on his worried burden of a mind.

He went quiet again just in time for Orion to show himself, while shifting back off to the side in basic caution. After positioning himself and turning so all were in his view, he answered the famous archer with, "I know not of Terra, friend."

With nothing else to lose, he decided to follow the group. "Lead on then, Sirrelf," he answered while gesturing with his arm for Melthandon to show the way to their destination. He kept himself out of the talk of destruction and 'Aschen', whatever they were, to instead enjoy the view and examine his surroundings.

He could follow without complaint, waiting to reach The Stout.

On the other hand, The Precursor was impressed... Yet also hesitant. He had never seen such a large man-made settlement before, it was truly astounding... Where did all the stone and wood come from to house all these people? How did they feed them, keep them watered and free from infection and disease?

To what lengths did they go to keep law and order...?

Soon, he found himself stood before The Stout and decided to take the first step towards the door, asking "May I?" While pushing forth against it to step inside.

Once within the confines of the warm, homely place, he peered around at whoever happened to be sharing the main room, but did not move to take a seat. He simply stepped out of the way of the door to let the others inside.

"I may need to put myself in debt," he said to Melthandon. "I'm afraid I have no money, yet I don't have time left today to earn it. I'm exhausted, I believe the last time I slept was several days ago and the last thing I ate was an apple I was given yesterday morning."

All these new people, new faces, new friends... Maybe even new enemies. Ugh... He wasn't sure if he liked it, or hated it. He made his way over to a seat by the fire and sat down carefully. "This is all very strange, and new to me."

"I've never heard of Terra before," he admitted rather sheepishly. "And... I don't understand this talk of different worlds as if man could travel between them freely? I feel like I have been asleep for ten thousand years and woken up in some sort of twisted, alternate reality..."

He took in a breath, then let it out as a sigh. "I mean no disrespect, but everything is so different... Everything changed so suddenly I cannot help but feel despair."

"Water will be fine, Sirhaf," he answered the Dwarf. "Thank you for the offer."

He looked back at Melthandon, but could only shake his head. "I know of magic as a wild, untame force of energy that is incredibly dangerous... Yet here it seems different. As though it's been trained, focused.."

The Precursor nodded a little, while thanking the Dwarf for the water and pouring himself a cup full. He then gulped it down as quickly as he possibly could to quench his incredible thirst. "I see there are lots I will have to get used to," he said while taking in several deep breaths to refill his lungs.

"I'll... Be back soon. I'm sorry, but I need some fresh air to help get my head around this. I need a walk."

He bowed, placed the cup and pitcher on his chair and then half-stumbled his way towards the door, at which point he would step out and take a small walk in the city.

The Precursor made his way down the fields of golden sand separating the ocean from the land. His spear was no-where in sight, having been once again placed in the sub-space to keep it out of the way of his every day life.
He seemed to be getting tired, as he had seen the rest of yesterday, the entire night and all of that morning up until now go by without a single rest... He was miles from the city he had left, yet still seemed to be going somewhere.

He approached the wave lapping against the shore and waddled down to knee-deep, before throwing the cool, salty liquid over his face to cool him, then cupped his hands and drank - despite the taste.

Once he was refreshed, he made his way back out of the reach of the surf and sat down, using his elbows to prop himself up so he could watch the horizon.

The light surprised him when he first noticed it, causing him to almost roll aside and bring out his spear for self protection - but it passed through him first, leaving him feeling safe, warm and as though he had experienced it before...

He continued to watch as the gate grew from the sand, while carefully standing up to watch it complete. Was he to go through? Was something to come through to him? Why did he have a feeling of Deja Vu?

He kept cautious eyes on the sigil and wiped his lips of the salty taste lest they become sore.

"Greetings?" He spoke, as though expecting someone could hear him.

"What... Are you doing here?" He could only ask, while checking the woman's features to be sure it was actually her and not some sort of trick.

"I remember you, yes... I know you. So I wasn't dreaming? Or... I'm not dreaming now? I'm not sure anymore... I have no idea what is happening. I woke in a different world and the call that gave me meaning is gone."

He took a step back in the sand and tried to keep himself from having a mental breakdown. Slowly he was getting over his denial... But it wasn't in the most stable of ways.

"I'm completely lost, Sol. I don't know where I am, where I am going or how long I was... Gone... I only know where I've been."

"So that's why I'm here, then?" He asked as he watched her, though settled his eyes just over her shoulder, rather than directly on her face.
"I don't know if I was sent forward, or if I've been asleep, I guess that matters not now... I'm supposed to stop them from being released, or I'm to defeat them again if they are. Is that right? Then what, will I be put away again until the next time? And the next?"

He seemed a little disappointed at what he guessed was the truth, yet felt adult enough to know it was something he couldn't just complain about like a chore. At least he had purpose again.

"I'll help, I see nothing else for me to do in this new world."

"You're right," he answered. "I was never forced to do anything. Instead I was given a set of choices, but I must wonder if they were orchestrated to truly give me freedom, or if they were a single path disguised as many. If I said no, the world wouldn't have been worth living in. So how could I decline?"

He smiled a little, but nodded to her. "I'll help however and wherever I can, if you'll come with me. I don't know about this world and I can't walk it on my own."

He felt that was a fair argument, besides, if it was truly so important then she, like he so many years ago, wouldn't even dare to decline.

At the mention of the mountains being the once great Colossi, the man had to shake himself out of memories that came flooding back of the battle between them.

Memories of the tower were vague to him, but he recognized that name and its purpose and it made him happy to realize that, if only for a limited time, he had brought some degree of peace to their world.

"I'll travel by your side," he told her. "And follow your lead. I trust that you know where we should go and what we should do, yes? It's still far too early for me to make confident choices on my own."

He turned to peer around them, taking one final look at the scenery before settling on her.

It came back to him then... Yes, that was where they would start. That Ebony girl had one of them and she had even told the others right before his eyes.

"I met a woman yesterday who has what I believe is one of the stones. She's in a city, staying at a rest-home called The Dwarven Stout. Should we start there?" He asked, following Sol as she retreated to keep the same distance between them.

"Unless you have a different plan of action, of course."

He took her hand and listened with uncertainty. "For some reason, I feel as though we once knew each other far more than I remember... I was sleeping for so long that parts of my memory are missing, but you're in them."

Once the gate had finished, he made to lead her through - to take the first step into the portal before the storm caught them.

"Yes, this is her," he answered as the gate closed and his sight cleared enough for him to see Ebony not far away. "She has a stone, I am certain of it."

He held his hands up slightly to show that, at least for now, he meant no harm, while beginning to slowly move closer to the woman.

"We need to speak to you about something incredibly important."

He abandoned his pursuit and stepped off warily to the side while Sol showed her weapon and spoke. He thought it was best to stay quiet for now, but wasn't about to let the two begin fighting each other. After all, from what he had seen of Ebony so far he felt as though she could do no harm even if she meant to.

Sol on the other hand, she had expressed the wish to 'stop them'... And he wasn't sure how far she'd go to do that. Besides, for now she seemed to be content with her questionings.

"I'll let you do what you feel is right, Sol," he said while watching the event play out before him. "Though I agree that leaving it in her hands is incredibly dangerous, I have to wonder why she was given it in the first place and who gave it her..."

He took a step back and peered up into the sky. "Maybe I should go to the tower myself and investigate..."

The mentions of monsters seemed strange to him, but the idea of guards logical. Would he have to fight them, though? That was the only thing he had to worry about.

He once again listened, while keeping a watchful eye on the area around them for the sole purpose of preventing any sort of listening in. Anyone could be an enemy in this city and with so many voices to cloud your own and so many hiding places to disappear in, he knew that no-where was safe.

"Me?" He asked, responding to Ebony addressing him. He paused for a long moment while calculating his answer and eventually settled solely on a simple "I believe her."

The Colossi were dangerous and so was the information that surrounded them... Little did he know most of those events had since been mythisized and turned into modern day legend. Surely anyone who had lived on Gaia would know to picture the giant rampaging beasts that once brought the world to its knees when they heard the word 'Colossi'.

But The Precursor didn't know this. As far as he was aware, it was a lost story and needed to stay that way.
