Upon the snow crowned peaks of the mountain range sat the Story Teller; a young woman wrapped in white furs as frost clung to her hair. A staff laid across her lap, tipped with a garnet stone and had intricate designs flowing down the wood. The woman appeared to be sleeping as her eyes were closed and so pale she had become, she almost seemed as if she had frozen alive. There was no response to the growing thunder of men's feet. No, the woman remained just as she was and moved not a single muscle.

There was a break in the wind; a voice that carried itself all along the mountains, echoing across Gaia. There was a stir of the snow near the woman and breath was seen before her face. Fingers grasped around her staff, ice crackling across her knuckles and the back of her hand. And with a great sigh, the snow which had piled upon her white furs slid off the woman's back, announcing that someone was present with the men and Pater Fedorov. Crystalline amethyst eyes opened up to see the mountains for the first time in hundreds of years.

"Ahh,' the Story Teller sighed in relief before she attempted to stand up. After trying to force her legs to work, they would not. They were frozen just as she had been for so very long. She then turned her eyes to the young man that was standing not three steps away from her.

She cleared her throat and asked," Excuse me, but could you help me to stand?"

There was shock on the woman's face but the offer of assistance was far better than remaining on the ground. She attempted to reach up in order to take the guard's hand even before it was offered. But, however, she could not move her arm just as she could not move her legs. So long had the woman been frozen and now there was no chance of her every moving it appeared.

"I cannot reach for help, it seems, my lord," she spoke to the young man. It was obvious of his status and she was no fool.

"I would stand to introduce myself, but I cannot. Forgive an old woman and her transgressions. My name Taeris the Autumn Witch and I have been stuck here for over ninety-two years," she said, the beginning of her tale.

Taeris kept her exotic colored eyes upon the young man, Pater. Her gaze never faltered once, but would his? There were few that held the courage to stare a witch in the eye and not become enthralled.

"I was brought to this place in order to begin the Autumn season. The Summer Witch's power was growing thin and stretched, but the Winter Witch was ambitious and wanted to awe all with her display. She froze all of us. Spring, Summer, and myself. For that very reason, these mountains have not seen anything but winter since that day, ninety-two years ago," she said, blue fingers fiddling with the markings on her staff.

"I fear that Summer is dead and her sister along with her, Spring. I cannot change the season without the two coming into power first. Our strength is shared and now, I have none but save what is left within my staff," Taeris mentioned, still not allowing her gaze to fall off of Pater.

"The Changing will never come to these mountains again or the Southern lands. Winter shall reign until the return of the Witches. Will you hunt them down, Pater of the South, or will you continue on your chosen trek appointed to you," the witch asked as ice chips flicked into her hair.

"There was once a man that had changed his path. He was blood thirsty and had been sent by his king into the northern lands to kill all that he could," Taeris said, sharing a tale from Gaian lore. "And he did kill. It was a great slaughter. But too soon, just before victory was at hand, there was one last person left! And so a choice was bestowed upon the man, to kill his prey or to leave them living. For you see, this choice was not an easy one to make and it was his duty to complete the crusade."

"Yet, if he had killed the woman, Sky fall would not have been born. Ahh yes, many do not know that Skyfall was born of a Southern man and a Siv'en woman. So, tell me, do you believe it was disaster that came upon changing his task," Taeris asked Pater.

"What could the force of a single man do against an entire realm," the woman quipped to the young man's question.

The witch's amethyst eyes flickered over to the one whom wielded the axe, watching as the chips of ice flew into the wind. Winter had done well to prevail here. It was a prime spot and the mana beneath Gaia's soil was strong. Until Spring reappeared and claimed her rightful powers, it would be a very long winter.

"And I am to go nowhere. It is not my place to travel with others. I will not go to your father's council, nor will I seek out my sisters. Fate is a fickle thing and I for one do not want to play her game."

Even if freed from her prison of ice, the woman did not move. She remained sitting and her gaze returned to the arrogant boy who posed as a man. "Are you the kind whom believe that all must serve a purpose unto their own person? Such a greedy one you are, boy. I would take care if I were you lest you be consumed by nothing else aside from your own desires, wants, and enthrallments."

"Winter was consumed by her vanity and look at the world now. Do you find this beautiful? A sparse range of mountains that cannot support the colors of the world. Nothing but white and gray."

"And so your heart will remain as nothing but white and gray," she simply stated before moving. The woman maneuvered her staff around and used it as support to help her stand. She was not going to ask for assistance from a boy who did not look past his own nose. Pray to Gaia, Taeris did, that he did not come into power for he would lead many down the wrong path. It was what the witch's wisdom had told her, whispered on the winter winds.

There was the sound of ice cracking as Taeris stood up to an enormous seven feet tall. And then it was seen that she was not a woman, but an dryad! Her facade had fallen when she rose from the snow and flesh became like bark, and hair became leaves, her furs were nothing more than the snow itself. What a clever disguise the creature had taken up or had been trapped in for many, many years.

"May it be so—"

The sentence was never finished as the dryad turned towards the ledge and looked upon the lands below her. Taeris sighed and her branches shivered causing icicles to dance, even force some to fall. Feet having turned into roots, they dug into the earth, seeking out whatever nutrients may still reside far beneath the soil. Taeris would never again speak, or move. She alone would be the only colorful tree on the mountain with her amaranthine leaves and blue hued bark. And it would remain so as long as Gaia remained.

Neodin continued to soar higher and higher. The fire consumed him, burning away every trace of darkness and foul magic. He saw the gargantuan colossi out of the corner of his eye, but he paid them no heed. Focusing his attention on the raging star looming before him, he trusted that Ha’Ari would deal with the giants in their own time.

The king of the aryites pierced through the pink clouds like an arrow through vapor, and the purifying fire bloomed from his greatsword like an enormous flower. It created a canopy, a shield, that would block the wrath of Eras like the stoic hand of a god, but it was yet too small.

Neodin soared higher, flying faster, appearing like a comet of brilliant light as he broke through the atmosphere. Though the air fled him, though the cosmic radiation of space battered him and the fury of Eras burned against him, no harm befell the holy king - for the Everlasting Flame raged within him like an unquenchable inferno.

The engines of the massive warship shuddered, flaring to life despite Eras’ pull on it’s main power systems.

Captain Hiroki stood at the helm, Shimizu’s last orders before he went into surgery were not lost on the Taiyou Captain.

Crewmen worked diligently aboard the bridge of this massive ship, as Gaia began to fill their displays, targeting systems began to highlight Iskjerne Bay and the surrounding area.

Quietly, and with much thought, Hiroki began to consider his options.

“The Magic that interferes with technological function won’t allow most conventional munitions to work... we’ll need to use a kinetic strike.” Hiroki said to himself, pulling up the schematics of the KX Type 2 Kinetic Kill Vehicle, a fin stabilized solid mass of iron, tungsten, and depleted uranium.

“Call in the fleet, Commander.” The Captain ordered.

Thunder rolled across Gaia as Eras laughed, but it rolled even harder as Eras roared. More influence, this time a power he couldn't drain. This enraged him almost as much as when Gaia was first created. It made him want to boil the seas and scourge the land.

The light of Eras strengthened as he mightily pulled at the Soja's force of power. It was the closest thing to him. Eras wanted to devour it.

Atargatis, unable to do much more, stifled the flow in favor of the Soja. The stars cared not for the desires and affairs of man.

From down below over on Siv'en a great hand made of mountain pierced the reddening clouds. Despite this, Eras grew even angrier. He pulled at the reigns for power of the ship all the mightier, blocking communicative channels and causing other minor malfunctions as he ripped Atargatis's grip from the Soja and drank.

Down on the planet, the stones would lose focus as targets of Eras. Their draining stopped, still left with some power. Tsunami as well slipped under Eras's radar.

“Captain! We have too much interference in this system!” One of the officers called out from his station. “We’ve got multiple decks reporting errors, and the power draw on the main core is starting to stifle secondary systems, we can barely draw enough energy to run our systems. If this continues it’ll blow the main bus.” One of the Soja’s bridge lieutenants reported, causing Hiroki to grit his teeth.

“We’re going to need to break orbit.” The Captain said to himself.

“Hyperdrive stands ready! But we’re reporting communications errors, We can’t seem to get a message out to the fleet.” Another officer reported.

“Main and auxiliary show clear! Target coordinates locked!”

Hiroki turned to the large screen in front of him. “We’ll come back for you.” He assured himself, red flickers of light catching his attention on a secondary screen. Several decks had began to report power loss.

Small glimmers of light flickered on, and off, all throughout the ship. There was a shrill whir that shuddered throughout the superstructure, the Hyperdrive began to power up.

“ The fire engulfing Neodin grew stronger as the spirit of Ha’Ari filled him. He lifted his blade, and the flames spread outward like great wings across the void between Gaia and Eras. The hilt burned his palm as the ancient power within the weapon awakened. A kernel - a seed of Creation - blossomed forth with a fraction of its power.

Neodin leveled the blade in a crossguard against Eras, and the holy fire fueled by Creation itself blossomed like a nebula. Ha’Ari, through the blade, attempted to shield Gaia from the brunt of Eras’s power. ”

Admiral Katamura checked her watch, the time continued to count down, seconds ticked by on the LCD face of the watch, the numerals changing with each passing moment.

There was a flicker of light, a sleek, yet angular shaped vessel winked in from the ether behind the formation of Taiyou ships, this vessel was distinct, in contrast to the brightly colored Taiyou warships, this vessel was dark in color, almost an iridescent gunmetal gray.

Six more strange vessels winked in formation around the alien vessel. These vessels each bore a rather large power signature, obscured by the flickering curtain of light that was their shields. The first vessel could be identified as an Aschen Vigiles class fast attack cruiser, while the six other vessels were identified as Aschen Empire Aegis class defense cruisers.

Commander Soban examined the readout carefully, leaning on the command console. "Aegis cruisers to assume defense formation around the Taiyou fleet, we'll provide rearguard support should this turn nasty."

Working in unison, the crew of the Ifriit began to execute the orders they had been given, as Clea leaned back up from where she was leaning.

"Ad Victoriam!" She called out.

Anquietas numerals counted down on a holographic interface in front of Commander Soban.

Lord Tigris ended the transmission from the Inquisitor and cupped his scraggly furred cheek in his pawed hand. He watched the Aschen ships carefully and pondered the situation. The Alliance had favorable relations with them in the past, but only Ha’Ari knew what state their political theater was in. How likely was it that this was the same empire they knew?

“Open a channel to the Taiyou.” He commanded.

“Yes, Your Highness.”

“Admiral Ayako.” He began. “As a courtesy, I am obliged to give you a status update on the operation. Our team of specialists, led by an elite Inquisitor, has made contact with the survivors of your countrymen - including the princess - and have neutralized the threat. I was informed that they are attempting to recover some sort of artifact for Her Highness. Presumably, you would know of what she speaks.”

Some time Later...

Slowly rising from the clouds, the Mizuho could now be seen on Taiyou scanners, it was readily apparent to Admiral Katamura, that the efforts of the Kroniktan Alliance had been successful, as only Princess Yukiko was capable of controlling that vessel.

A few transmissions were flitted back, and fourth.

The Mizuho was the first to vanish, shooting off into the limitless blackness of space.

The Kaze no Tani slowly began to bank as well, transmitting a message to the KA Fleet.

"We thank you for rescuing our Princess, when our Emperor returns, we will discuss further contact."

Once the Kaze no Tani finished it's banking, a window opened up in front of it, and it shot fourth into the ether, the Taiyou fleet leaving one by one, shooting off into the blackness of space.

Gaia: High orbit

Amidst the magic imbued void of space, a single distortion opened up, cloudy tendrils of spatial energies opened up as a single Taiyou ship, the Shizuru Maru jutted fourth from the nothingness of space.

Once it decelerated, Captain Susumu Kodai watched the displays intently, It had been some time since General Hama had heard from the Argosian legions dispatched to Iskjerne Bay, and rather than risking lowering the defenses at his portal facility, he had opted to redirect the nearest Imperial ship to perform a high-orbital reconnoiter of the Iskjerne Bay region.

Captain Kodai briefly checked his instruments, they were beyond the interference field, and everything seemed to be working nominally. This was good, so the Captain turned to his bridge officer. "Are we in position?" He asked in Taiyou, with which the officer nodded, and a magnified image of Iskjerne Bay flitted into view on the screen, there was a lot of darkness, but the orange glow of flames could be made out in the pixelated image.

"Clean it up, we're going to have to wait until daybreak to take additional photos." He said, the overwhelming feeling that something was amiss seemed to wash over him.

"That's a lot of fire down there... I wonder what happened." The Captain asked quietly, as they magnified the image.
