A slight frown was on the man's face as he stared into the empty cigarette box in his left hand, a crumpled handful of bills in his other as he pushed open the door to the diner. Idly, his dark brown eyes swept the interior of the place as he paced his way to the counter, a thin, polite lift to the corner of his mouth as he acknowledged the person behind it and asked for a cup of warm coffee. He moved to take up a seat on one of the empty counter stools then, roving around to lean his back against the edge of the counter as he looked around to the rest of the tables, idly thinking about if the business was lacking due to the hour or perhaps poor quality of goods or services. His gaze befell the other lone woman, and he lifted a brow, observing her seemingly miserable appearance. "Psst." He hissed toward her, aiming to catch her attention.

He turned at his waist to reach around and set his bills on the counter as the server placed a cup of steaming coffee down with a handful of creamer capsules, dipping his chin in silent regard before he turned back around to look once more at the woman. She could use a smile, he thought to himself as he cleared his throat. "Don't suppose you smoke do you? Or perhaps you know of a convenience store in the area?"

The man's face broke out into a grateful smile, a slight flashing of his straight white teeth. Years of smoking hadn't tainted them yet, not with his sometimes obsessive care of what he considered to be a best feature. He rose from his stool, striding over to the woman's table casually, but he didn't take a cigarette from the outstretched box, he merely looked her over. "I'd love one if, you have it to spare. Name your price."

"Oh I'm not so sure about that." He replied, sliding the cigarette from the box with his thumb and pointer slowly. "Nice girl like yourself sittin' all alone in a diner, middle of the night, pouring so much sugar into a cup of coffee it's bound to spill over any minute? I think it's only fair I owe you at least a smile for your helpfulness."

He lifted the corner of his mouth, dark eyes glinting in the low light as he evened his gaze with hers.

He laughed quietly, shaking his head as his eyes squinted. "Oh hell, girly, not in the slightest. I'm just a lazy, smoking, musician out for a late night coffee and a smoke. That is, now that I actually have one." He gave her a polite look, nodding his chin in silent thanks before he stuck out his hand, the one without the cigarette still held between his fingers. "Theodore James."

Withdrawing his hand slowly, he nodded his acknowledgement, considering her reply for a few seconds. "Dani aye? 'T's a nice name. Uncommon. Friend's call me Theo, or Teddy, whichever you like best really." He leaned back, resting the small of his back against the edge of her table as he lifted his arm to tuck his bummed cigarette behind his ear. "So, can I ask? Why so glum Dani? I mean, if you have a sweet tooth I'm sure there's a candy shop around somewhere, and probably a lot cheaper for a pieces of licorice than a cup of coffee." His lips curved into a cheeky smile, some hint of playfulness in his tone, though he was being serious all the same.

Theo grinned, straightening as he moved behind her table to grasp his hands over the back of the chair across from her. His shoulders spread and rippled and as he leaned over, casually crossing his ankles one over the other. "Well, I've got time to kill, literally, smoking kills after all, how about I buy your next coffee and in return I tell you a corny music joke to get a pity laugh and a smile that says 'god you're such an ass.'"

The man merely grinned and shook his head, chuckling softly as he did so. "Oh hell no, if I wanted to go on a date I'd be upfront and honest. No sense in putting around or beating behind a bush- doesn't get you anywhere and makes you look like an ass if you ask me." He leaned back then, feeling just the tiniest bit successful with seeing the lift of her mouth.

He smiled politely to the waitress before she passed back behind the counter, figuring he didn't mind much leaving his coffee there since he didn't drink his with sugar anyway. "Right. Joke. And like I said, it's corny and will probably get a pity laugh, and I know you're gonna give me a look like I'm a childish ass, but it's so worth it in this case." He paused for slight effect, a sly smirk across his lips as he cleared his throat. "What's the difference between a piano, and a fish?"

The grin that crossed his lips was cheeky, but entertained all the same. "You can 'tuna' piano, but you can't 'tuna-fish'."

He grinned wider, laughing despite himself as he shrugged his shoulders. "I'm a tortured and struggling musician, I'm bound to eat a popsicle sooner or later no?" He winked, his tone playful and light, pleasant even. "I told you though, you'd give me a pity laugh and make a comment about how assinine it was. And hey, it was totally worth it."

"Hm. No one's asked me that before." Theo said thoughtfully as he crossed his arms over his chest and leaned back. "Well I have an acoustic guitar, black, named him midnight. Yes, I call my guitar a him and it's named Midnight- don't hate." He stuck the tip of tongue between his lips as he looked at her, childish, he knew, but he hoped it'd keep her in good spirits. "I suppose I have my own style though. If you've ever heard any of the music that Robert Pattinson does it's kind of similar. I don't really know any other way to describe it except that it's acoustic unplugged, and my voice is kind of scratchy with a good range."

He lifted his arm, scratching his fingers through his hair thoughtfully. "But hey, you say I'm normal. That's another first. I'm not sure if that's a compliment or an insult though."

He shrugged thoughtfully as he shifted on his feet, considering her words for a moment. "Well, way I see it, I've got nothing to lose. I could strike up a casual conversation and get shot or jumped for it, maybe even possessed or sucked dry, or hell, I could make a down-looking pretty young woman smile and gain a friend out of it." He smiled lazily, lifting and dropping one shoulder as he looked at her. "You tell me."

Theo blinked, lifting his brows as he looked to meet her gaze. "Trouble huh? Just for getting a compliment? Well damn Dani, that's pretty rough." He chuckled slightly, lifting his hand to remove his bummed cigarette from behind his ear as he used his other to remove a lighter from his jean pocket, flipping it open as the kerosene smelling flame flickered upwards. He tilted his head down, breathing in slowly as the end of his cigarette glowed and bitter smoke filled his mouth. He closed his lighter, slipped it back into his pocket, and grasped the butt of his cigarette between his thumb and pointer, holding it out as he breathed in then out slowly.

"It was a good experience at the least then?"

He furrowed his brows, taking a long slow puff of his smoke as he regarded her. "Uh..." He blew out thin whisps of smoke as he spoke. "I wouldn't know I suppose. Sorry though, wish I knew how to respond to that." He smiled apologetically, crossing his ankles one over the other as he leaned back and straightened. "Something horrible though huh? Must be on your mind a lot."

Theo breathed in the drag of smoke he had wrong, the harsh fumes building in the top of his throat and collected down toward his stomach as he coughed and his eyes watered. He gathered his composure after a moment, nodding slowly. "So, that's pretty common I've come to understand. Lotta different folk around. You immortal? A demigod? Alien maybe?" He spoke with a smirk, his tone gentle and playful. He certainly wasn't trying to be rude or offensive, merely understanding and a bit playful if anything.

"Hahaha, hey now we talked about me too. I just don't have an interestin' backstory like yours is all." He leaned to flick his cigarette into her discarded coffee cup, the one he'd pressumed had more sugar than coffee, and offered her a light smile. " I think we're breaking the rules by the way, surely there's a no smoking sign around here somewhere, right?"

Theodore lifted his right foot as he stood outside the front entrance, using the sole of his sneaker to extinguish the glowing ember that was left of his cigarette. He exhaled a thin line of smoke from his last drag, then squared his shoulders and turned to open the door as he dropped the butt on the ground, seeing no trashcans nearby. Stepping through the door, Theo glanced around and slowly made his way to the bar to take up an empty stool, ordering himself a glass of whiskey.

Dressed in a black blazer and dark wash, worn out jeans, complete with a pair of sunglasses covering his eyes, worn out sneakers, and a guitar case slung over one shoulder, a man strode along the sand quietly. A lit cigarette dangled from his mouth as his finger idly plucked invisible chords, and thoughtfully he hummed to himself as he looked out at the water. Eventually, his footsteps halted and he sank down onto the sand, pulling his guitar bag around to his lap and slowly unzipping the case.
