Sat on a low hanging oak branch was an elven woman. She was clad in a long green cloak, a very common piece of apparel for forest elves and rangers. Beneath it she had on a leather jerkin and thick breeches.

The air was chilly, and getting more frigid still as a cold front moved in. The woman adjusted the thick scarf around her neck, and pulled the cloak more tightly around herself. Her pale hands were cold to the rest of her skin. She could barely see the sky, but what she could see was covered in clouds that whispered of freezing rain.

Crackling was one of the more prominent sounds within the thick of the woods, which was eerily quiet, even for the morning. Within her fingers, the elf was toying with a white wrapper. Within it was a piece of rice candy, which she plopped quickly into her mouth, then disposed of the wrapper in a pouch upon her hip. She kicked her feet, almost impatiently, as she slipped her fingers through her ash blonde hair.

Ja'keth cursed as the brush scratched at his face. As he fought forward through the thick woods that seemed to fight against him, he was confronted with a fact he was already well aware of. There are two kinds of elves in this world; Forest Elves, and City elves.

He was a city elf, and a damn proud one at that. Jungles aren't always green and made of wood and plants, Sometimes a jungle was made of steel and stone, filled with wild creatures of a different breed. Survival in these jungles was just as difficult as it was out here in nature.

Ja'keth pushed forward until he was at the rendezvous, patting down his clothes while grumbling to himself. When he was done muttering, he sighed, looking up at the branches of the trees.

The forest elf found herself looking down at him, exchanging glances. She gave him a simple, teasing smile. "Having a little trouble, city elf? It was a walk in the park for me." She dug into her pocket and threw him one of the white candies. "Have something to eat. We're going to need it for the long journey up ahead. If we don't find anything tonight, I hope you don't mind camping."

Slipping off from the branch, the woman fell, but landed gracefully onto her feet, clad in light, waterproof boots that were long to her thighs. She pointed to the candy. "That stuff's good. Oriental elf rice candy. Has more nutrients in it than you'd think."

Ja'keth glared as he shoved the candy in his mouth, rolling his shoulders to adjust the sweater he wore. As the sides fluttered, for a moment the holster under his shoulders were exposed for half a second. Walk in the park, for forest elves it meant one thing, for City ones it meant another.

"Let's get moving, I don't like waiting."

"Impatient. Well, I guess we don't want to be trapped in the darker parts of the forest when it gets to nighttime." The woman walked out ahead of him, beckoning him to follow. "I don't think we ever spoke a lot. We'll be able to do a lot of that on our way, especially since I'm not sure how far out it is. I don't know why Da'veth wants it, but he seems adamant... might you have a clue?"

"I learned a long time ago asking questions to find answers people want to hide only leads to trouble." Ja'keth said flatly. "If you can't figure it out on your own then don't involve me. Forest Elf."

The forest had it's dangers, but the cities had something else. Man. And what creature was more dangerous than him?

Ja'keth shoved his hands into his pockets and followed.

"Is this how city elves normally act? Da'veth likes to be more charming," she retorted, but in a friendly, joking manner. She had a brow quirked at him as they moved through the bush. She ducked and weaved and danced around branches in a nonchalant manner that spoke volumes of her years in the forest. Not the Forbidden Thick strictly, but many others.

As they traveled, the trees closed in, grew taller, and the bush became thicker, cloaking them in shadows. "I haven't explored this area very far. There's a slight chance we might get lost..."

"I tend to be more amiable when I'm not working." Ja'keth sighed.
He hated being compared to Da'Veth. Ja'keth knew he could be cold on jobs, but that man?

That man was always a monster.

Not many of the elves being recruited would ever find out, but Ja'keth, he knew. There was a reason why Da'veth trusted him as much as he did, and that was because Ja'keth knew.

"You Forest Elves have one thing going for you, and you can't even do that correctly?"

"I always manage to find my way back eventually," mentioned Tura. "Ja'keth, it was, right? I've only met you once before, that one time. Just after the crazy elf girl. I don't know what Da'veth sees in her..." She shook her head.

She stopped, suddenly, being met with a wall of darkness.

"Well. I failed to see that the first time I took a breeze around here."

"I'm beginning to wonder exactly what he sees in you either...." Ja'keth grumbled as he came up beside her, staring into the wall of shadows.

"It's always something on these jobs...."

"You live in a city that gets bombed every month and is raided by soldiers, I thought this would be a welcome change for you. After all, it is more quiet. Just subtly..." She glanced around, making a face. "Alright, well, intensely uninviting." She reached into her pocket, producing two smooth, round stones. She reached for Ja'keth's hand to press one into his palm, keeping one for herself. She ran a nail over the carving over its center and whispered one word:

"Sindarin."

As one would have it, the stone would light up brilliantly. "That's old elvish for sun. These are sunstones. They're a really really old timey item that I like to use instead of flashlights or lanterns. They're easier to stuff in your pocket and they don't run out of batteries."

She wandered forth, into the darkness, with only a limited visibility of the path ahead. "Can you see me in here?"

Ja'keth followed behind Tura, A small white beam of light in front of him. It was plainly obvious that the male elf had decided not to use her sunstones, instead he had unholstered the pistol he had on him, holding it out in front of him as he used the small flashlight attached under it's barrel.

He was from a city that was bombed every month and raided by soldiers after all.

"I can see you just fine, let's keep moving."

"Alright, just making sure. I feel as though this phenomenon isn't natural. Swiftly. Even I'm getting a bad feeling about this." Tura glanced around, but to no avail. She could only see a vague path ahead of her. The same with Ja'keth.

She would glance back to make sure he was following every now and again. It became so quiet that all she could hear were their footsteps. Eventually, she stopped.

"Hear that?" she asked him. "Of course not. There's not a thing to hear."

And no sooner had she said it, there was a snap.

Ja'keth spun, pressing his back against Tura's, weapon raised and the sights glowing a dim green. He had not put his back to hers for comfort, but rather as a tactical counter measure. IT was the best way from him to be able to focus on one sector and for her to take care of the other.

Still...he hated that he had to rely on her.

Tura drew back her cloak and reached at her side, where she had something just as good as a gun.

Pistol crossbows were great weapons. They were one-handed, easy to use, silent, and well, it propelled arrows at a frightening speed. What more could a forest elf need? Guns were far too noisy.

Feeling Ja'keth's back to hers, she found herself smirking. "What's this, Ja'keth? The woods putting the city elf on edge?"

"Nah, just using you as a shield." Ja'keth retorted without missing a beat. He did a scan of the darkness with the light from the gun, finger resting on the trigger lightly.

"Let's continue on."

She was quiet for a moment, but nodded, reaching for his shoulder. "It would be wise..." she mumbled. She felt uncomfortable speaking too loudly.

They would walk for another hour before Tura proposed a rest. It may have been a short time for an elf, city or forest for their kind, but the darkness was depressive and exhausting. She leaned against a tree, legs folded Indian-style. She handed another candy to Ja'keth, then ate one, herself. "This is taking a bit longer than I wanted it to. I'm not even sure where to look exactly."

Ja'keth held his pistol in one hand, arm bent at his waist. He proceeded to pop the candy into his mouth with the other, eyes scanning the darkness as he thought.

"If it were easy he'd be getting it himself." Ja'keth mumbled as he wondered just where the item would be. Even Elven eyes couldn't pierce this darkness....it was just so....unnatural.

"Da'veth?" she asked, having heard the mumble more clearly than he had probably anticipated. "Probably. I need to figure that man out sometime. All the elves in the Aetas Nova seem a bit strange so far." She smirked at Ja'keth. "You're not excluded from that."

She shuffled, then snapped her head to the right, concentrating. "Do... do you hear that?" she asked. It was feint, but it gradually became louder and louder and louder.

"...horse gallop. Who in the world could see well enough to be riding a galloping horse through these woods?"

"Twenty? I'll certainly make good use of twenty," She continued to twirl the ring around her finger, and had no intentions of taking it off.

"Tell me, Lord Draco, is there anything I should be wary of, regarding the Commandos?"
