Valdis Morte

A young girl with a passion for music, her strengths lie in her expert bass playing. She also has a powerful magical presence, and can use her instrument to perform her necromantic craft. Bassist of Attuned.

0 · 721 views · located in The Infinite Void

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by ClockworkTowers

Description

Valdis stands roughly 5'1, and is overall a small girl. She seems to shy away from large amounts of attention when she isn't playing on a stage, and usually has a nervous or shy look on her face. Her usual attire is a black zipped hoodie with a skeletal pattern mimicking ribs, as well as bones traveling down the sleeves. A large skull adorns the hood proper, missing a lower jaw. Her thighhighs are black with a bone pattern not unlike the one on her sleeve.

She seems to prefer combat boots, probably for fashion more than comfort, and these are also colored black. She often wears small skull earrings that are often hidden by her blond hair, which flows down to her abdomen in length. She also paints her fingernails black. When her hood is on, it seems she shoves her hair to the right side of her face, partially covering it from view. Her eyes are blue, although they sometimes change to a darker tone, especially when she's invoking her magic.

Personality

Valdis shies away from a lot of attention when she's not onstage, fearing mostly that others will discover her magic and come to loathe her. When she's onstage, she really can let go and seem far more energetic and bold then normal. In conversation, she tends to ramble, and seems to prefer quick stints of conversation. She always welcomes the opportunity to teach or play for someone however, and charges a modest fee for her services (sometimes charging nothing at all).

Equipment

Memento
A bass guitar that has been with Valdis since she started playing. It's a bizarre six string in a V-shape, and would otherwise be an electric guitar if not for it's immense weight and noticeably different strings. Its body is painted black, with a white pickguard that possess a pattern of black thorns spreading across it. Roses on the pattern are centered around the knobs and switches. She notably plays it as if she were playing a guitar, and not a bass. She keeps it in a traveling bag, black with a purple stripe trim.

When being played, the bass itself has a notable tone in it while it is being played that isn't anything natural. Furthermore, it is capable of being played even without an amp, especially when she uses her magic.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Dark Arts
-------------------------------------------------------------------
A small black folder full of music sheets, mostly of charted bass lines and grooves. A menacing skull adorns it's front, with several writings in an otherworldly language plastered all over it. She references these sheets sparingly, especially while in public. When she does reference it in public, she tends to try and keep attention off of her.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Groove: Grave Rising
A slow 2/4 time groove that Valdis plays with serene grace. As long as she plays it, she summons four Skeletoids every 4 measures. When summoned, Skeletoids will stand alongside her, dancing to the groove while awaiting commands. Skeletoids can be enhanced and manipulated in various ways through her other grooves. She cannot summon more than 12 Skeletoids through this method.

Groove: Buried Alive
A medium tempo 6/8 time groove that Valdis plays in a showy manner. As long as she plays it, she summons one Rotter every 4 measures. When summoned, Rotters will dance to the groove in a timely fashion as they await her future commands. Rotters can be enhanced and manipulated in various ways through her other grooves. She cannot summon more than 4 Rotters through this method.

Groove: Spirited Encounter
An upbeat 3/4 time groove that Valdis plays with great energy in her fingers. As long as she plays it, she summons two Lesser Wraiths every 8 measures. When summoned, Lesser Wraiths will circle her position dancing in time to the groove as they await her further commands. Lesser Wraiths can be enhanced and manipulated in various ways through her other grooves. She cannot summon more than 8 Lesser Wraiths through this method.

Groove: Macabre Carnival
A long 4/4 time groove with several distinct parts. While Valdis plays this groove, nearby Undead are inspired and shielded, becoming far more resilient to outside effects of all kinds.

Groove: Death March
A short 4/4 time groove that has a sense of power and energy in the groove. While Valdis plays this groove, nearby Undead are incited and empowered, becoming far more threatening.

Groove: Herald of Unlife
A busy groove in 5/8 time that Valdis plays with intensity. While Valdis plays this groove, nearby Undead are energized and filled with vigor, becoming far more swift and agile.

So begins...

Valdis Morte slid into the bar, her bass inside a bag she carried on her back. With her hood pulled over, and her long blonde hair hiding a good deal of her face, she tried to make her way to the counter without drawing too much attention.

Once there, she'd poke measly at the menu machine until she found something that satisfied her. Her physical presence was small, however, anyone capable of picking up magic would find a large one emanating from her. She then waited patiently for her order, giving only momentary glances at others in the bar.

Valdis Morte mostly tried to ignore the crashing bottles and other loud noises, instead, bringing out a small binder that she opened. Scouring through her sheets was something she did often, especially when people weren't singling her out.

Valdis Morte seemed surprised when the robots arrived with her order. She took it and handed over what was need to pay for it, then returned to looking within her binder. She really needed to write a new groove.

Valdis Morte started to pick at her food, a hamburger and fries. Tavern standard in food. She didn't seem all that eager to consume the items however.

Valdis Morte wandered into the woods. She much preferred the darker places anyways. The bar was simply not cutting it for her, and she felt obligated to walk off the hamburger. Her bass was securely in it's bag, carried on her back. She liked the darker areas, where she could more easily write her grooves, as well as practice her craft in relative secrecy.

Valdis Morte heard the noise of something and perked up. She wasn't alone. This was troubling to her. She quickly took her bass out, her fingernails sparkling for a moment with a purple glow as she readied to play should something bad occur. She was a Necromancer, so to speak, and anyone who could sense magic would know.

Valdis Morte was not all that far away. She was walking carefully, with her bass in her hands, her hands still shrouded in a purple glow. She was also silent.

Valdis Morte looked around warily. She knew she heard something. Her gaze focused warily on every tree around her, her fingers playing a very soft melody on her bass as she did so. It was a simple repetition of a single note, but she felt more at ease when playing something.

Valdis Morte upgraded the playing into the starting notes of a Bass Groove that she then continued into the full song.

As she played the tune, no less than two Skeletons rose at each of her sides. Each one was armed with a simple axe and shield, and neither were armored. Somehow, the bass was making noise even without an amp, likely an effect of her magic. She kept playing however, each of the Skeletons she summoned bashing their individual axes and shields together all the while in tune with her playing.

Her hands retained the purple glow as she played.

Valdis Morte had nothing but indecipherable text in some other language as the memory for her spells. This cryptic text and many musical notes arranged in patterns would invade Violet's mind as she messed with Valdis'. The text needed to be deciphered if anything was to be learned.

Valdis herself, kept playing, two more Skeletons joining the prior two. With all four, she ended her tune to shift into another groove, which had the Skeletons looking around the area, as if seeking a fight.

Valdis Morte just kept playing, at least until she was certain no one was left nearby. When this point came, she stopped playing and put her bass away as she fled the forest. She was unsure if the ones nearby would return, and didn't want to find out.

The Skeletons followed her, but once more "died" as her magic faded.

Valdis Morte entered the bar, keeping her hood over her head as she made her way to the counter. Strapped onto her back was a large guitar bag that she kept her bass in. She seemed to try and pretend she wasn't there, as she ordered with some kind of melancholy to her presence. Deftly she manipulated the buttons on the mechanical menu and waited for her order, giving everyone in the bar a quick once over gaze.

Valdis Morte pulled out her small binder, opening it and looking at some of the pages within. The binder itself was an attention grabber unfortunately, given that it's cover has a large skull and writing of an unidentified language adorning it. In fact, Valdis seemed to try and look at it in a way that was very secretive of it. Her food hadn't arrived yet either.

Valdis Morte seemed to shrink further into her binder when Silenus also joined her at the counter. She peered over for only a second to see if her food had arrived. Seeing nothing, she went back to reading her binder as she tried to hide behind it.

Valdis Morte noticed her food arrive and put her binder away. She started picking at it, but didn't seem all that overly enthusiastic about eating. It was a hamburger and fries, a simple meal, but her nibbling put little dent in it at any rapid pace.

She still seemed too concerned about the ones besides her in stools of their own. She heard the squeal however and glanced a bit. What a loud bar. Why was a car in here? Gambits was full of those questions.

Valdis Morte only now noticed the fight about to ensue, as she finished her food, and quickly backed away from the counter. She ran towards a booth and quickly got her bass guitar out, attaching the straps for it so she could use it. She was now in a spot ready to play.
