Little Death

Description

Name: Valentina Rosetti Image
Real name: Valarie Sternberg
Alias: "petite fleur"- Little Flower, "ma dulce" - my sweet, 'petite morte', or little death.
Gender: Female
Age when turned: 9
Actual Age: Unknown
Race: Vampire

Physical Description:

Her lavender hair drapes down to just above her shoulders, while her bangs dip slightly into her eyes. Her pale face is round, and soft, due to the fact that she is forever nine years old. Long thick lashes curl up, expanding wide dark purple/lavender eyes. If one were to look within them, they would feel as if they were falling forever, drowning in a sea of blackness. The only other marking upon her face are two dimples that are only visible whenever she smiles, which is generally all the time. Valentina’s feminine frame stands at a mere 4’1 and despite her childlike appearance she is extremely toned and strong. Whenever she has just fed, her face has color, and there is a rosy shade to her dimpled cheeks.

She likes to dress as an innocent little girl in pinks, and lace and bows. Also, her attire consists of a pair of legging that matches her dark purple under-dress. The under-dress drapes down a little past her knees and the top part is like a sleeveless shirt, but it fastens with a criss-cross design with pure silk ribbons. The rest of the dress is a lighter shade and has intricate adornments on the front from the bottom of the sternum to mid-chest. The top of it wraps around her upper arms. Around her waist is a thin dark purple almost brown belt. Dress! On her cute little feet are a pair of black Mary Jane dress shoes that are far more comfortable than they look.

However she will also wear comfortable jeans or shorts depending on the weather. She has any color imaginable to man and all of them are in perfect condition. If at any time her clothes are ruined, she gives them to Red Cross to reintegrate them into the system. Going with the jeans, she wears pretty much any type of cute t-shirts or tanks and ensures that they too are in good shape. Her tennis shoes are perfect, just like her clothes and she goes to great lengths to keep them clean. She has tons of shoes and of course, boots for hiking and what not. Finishing out the outfit are two different forms of outwear. The first is a long metallic blue jacket that rests a few inches below her knees and has a collar. The second is a black hooded cloak that when properly fastened with the black buttons and loops give a shadowy appearance allowing her to hide easily. Valentina wears a simple black choker that looks more like a belt than anything else. She also has a pair of wire rimmed sunglasses with black lenses

Wings!

Outstretched from behind her is a set of wings. The wing on the left is black while the one on the right is white. The wings appeared right after she was turned and although no one could explain why, she decided that it was a gift from her sire. Unable to make them disappear, Valentina has no qualms with letting them show, but she has upon occasion fastened them down beneath her jacket.

Equipment

Barrettes/Hair Ties: Valentina has countless number of bunny barrettes in her arsenal. She also has a number of ribbons of all different colors, although the majority of them are purple to match her dress

NomNom: Another piece of equipment is her pure white kitty with beautiful blue eyes. The kitty, named NomNom has a purple bow around its neck and loves lying in Valentina’s lap. In addition to the real kitty, she has a plushie replica of NomNom, which she sleeps with. More importantly, NomNom can morph into a ginormous strong and deadly White Siberian Tiger. As a tiger, NomNom is almost as tall as a SUV, and his fangs and claws elongate much like a Sabertooth tiger. While in this form, his flesh has all but rotted off, and he salivates poison that is constantly dripping from his fangs. His speed is twice as fast as a cheetah despite looking like a zombie. NomNom is in reality, a homunculi formed from her practice in the dark arts. The signs of rot and decay are testament to her imperfect skill at the time of his creation. However, when in kitty form, he’s absolutely CUTE and ADORABLE! Only when he’s in the other form is he rotting.

Band: Around her left foot is a silver locking band that sits slightly above her ankle. This band is far from ordinary, and was passed down to her from the individual that sired her. It is filled with the eldritch powers of eons long past, and protects her physically from attacks. While it cannot protect her from everything, it lessens the blow, and allows her time to fight back.

Throwing Knives: 6 silver-plated throwing knives are sporadically placed on her body.

Spell Book: This book stores her dark arts, and allows her to access hundreds upon hundreds of spells. It has a locking mechanism that only she can open, and if anyone else happened to get it open, they would only see black pages. All she has to do is speak the phrase of the spell, and it automatically opens to that page, and begins the spell creation.

Charm Bracelet: On her right wrist is a bracelet that has a variety of different charms upon it. Each charm on the charm bracelet corresponds to a different magical ability she can use at whim. Like a little dog allows her to summon lycanthropes from another world: giant, feral werewolves ready to tear flesh at her command. Or a dollhouse lets her throw up a protective telekinetic shield. A pair of dice allows her to increase her luck, or the luck of those around her, half a heart allows her to flow necrotic energy into NomNom, healing his zombified tiger body, a pair of cherries allows her to quell her own blood-thirst so that she can think, even when provoked into a feeding frenzy

History

Valerie Sternberg was born to a normal set of middle class parents that like most others, wanted the best for their only child. The family did the things that other families did, such as going to the park to play, visiting the nearby zoo, and of course, playtime with other families. In fact, Valerie’s life as a child was almost too perfect. She had an extremely close relationship not only with her parents, but with her entire extended family as well. Cousins were constantly coming over to play, and she would spend a month each summer at her grandparents. Well, two months a summer since she had to spend a month with each set of grandparents. At each set, Val had tons of friends, and was always doing some sort of activity. Kindergarten was a breeze for the gifted little girl, and she was quite content doing tons of extracurricular activities, even at such a young age. Every night after dinner and dessert, they would go out on walks, and explore the woods that surrounded their neighborhood. This continued even when they moved to a new place miles away from their old neighborhood. When Valerie turned nine, they decided to take a new route, and soon found themselves trekking down a particularly scary path. It was this night that would change her life forever. All at once, they were attacked by a form that was nothing more than a blur. The way it moved entranced Valerie, and she couldn’t help but watch even as her parents were brutally slaughtered in front of her. When the creature turned towards her, the only thing the kid could do was let out a little squeak. Her feet felt planted to the ground, and even if she could run, it was obvious that it could move much faster than her little legs could.

It’s all over…

As the thing was just about to leap on her, another form suddenly appeared. The two fought, but the newer arrival was obviously stronger than the other. Before justice could be dispatched, the weaker being disappeared in a burst of mist. Valerie couldn’t move, and as the strange female turned to glance at her, she immediately felt relief. This sensation continued even as the black haired woman moved closer, and Sternberg wasn’t sure if the red streaks were hair color or blood. Without a word, the lithe woman picked her up, and stepped through a strange black opening. It wasn’t long that Valerie fainted, and when she woke up, the orphan found herself in the middle of a colossal house that soon would become her permanent dwelling. The savior that had saved her stepped into the room, and introduced herself as Lily Rosetti. She quickly explained that the creature that had dispatched Valerie’s parents was a rogue vampire, while she was a vampire that had control over her bloodlust. She also explained that no one knew exactly what she was, except the people residing in this house, and that this was to be Valerie’s new home. The small child took it all in, and it was apparent that she was smarter than anyone her age.

“I’m sure you need time to think things over. If you wish to go to an orphanage, just tell me, and someone will drop you off. However, I’m offering you a chance in the lifetime. Think of all the things you could do if given the chance.”

With that, Lily stepped out, and left Valerie alone. Sitting in the middle of a queen sized bed, she wasn’t sure exactly what to do. The thought of being a vampire instantly intrigued her, simply because in her mind, if she became one, she would be able to understand why one would go rouge and why her parents had to die. To the left of her bed was a nightstand with a book placed carefully on it, and Val picked up the piece of literature, and snuggled down beneath the covers for some reading. The entirety of the tome was all about vampires, and after reading for the entire night, and most of the next day, she knew almost everything there was to know. She then spent the remainder of the day mourning the loss of her parents, but knew that she simply couldn’t go back to her other family, because the murderer was still alive, and that needed to change. Later that night, Valerie found Lily in another part of the house, and made the decision to become a vampire. Not one to reject a vengeful child, since at one point in time, she was the same way, Lily bit down gently on Valerie’s neck, and fed. She then cut her own wrist, allowing her vampiric blood to flow into the nine-year-old’s mouth.

“Valarie Sternberg is no more. You are now Valentina Rosetti, little one.”

So begins...

How she got into such a predicament wasn’t clear to Valentina, but the small vampire knew that this boring place wasn’t where she wanted to spend the rest of her immortal life. Staring at the disgusting walls and listening to the water as it continually dripped onto the floor was irritating to say the least. The only thing that made it suck a little bit less was the company of her beautiful white cat, dubbed NomNom. The kitten was rubbing his face against her leg at that very moment, and she paused in her revelry to pat his furry little head. She stretched out her legs and let out a long annoyed sigh. Her fingers stretched out a little and she slid up to her feet.

“Well, NomNom… I think it’s time to get out of here, hmm?”

“Meow.”

Nodding at her playmate, Valentina glanced up to where the top of the tower happened to be and calculated the distance. It was quite a ways up, but anything was possible for someone that happened to have wings. There was only one small problem that would keep her from completing her task and that happened to be the shackle that was attached from her ankle to the wall. Well, if she was a normal child that would be a problem, but being a vampire meant she had special strength and had she not been asleep until now, Val would have already broken out of the unwelcome prison. Snatching hold of NomNom, she spread her wings behind her; glancing backwards to see if the left was still black and the right was still white, which was the case. Pushing off the ground, she soared through the air and burst out the top and landed on the very tippy-top.

“Well, let’s go home, alright, Nommers?”

“Me-OW”

“My thoughts exactly.”

Glancing around at the rubble that made up the current landscape, Valentina was most definitely not willing to stay there any longer than necessary. Luckily, she had the ability to fly at great length and had a homing beacon so to speak that would allow her to find her home. So, without another moment to waste, she took off like a shot and soared through the air. However, in reality, she wasn’t going to her real home, but was going to a permanent residence while trying to locate her sire, Lily. She was pretty sure the vampire was kidnapped and she had been searching throughout the worlds for her, but had yet to find any sign of Lily. Finally landing outside of her residence, she stepped inside and headed towards her bedroom. She was going to go out into the streets to try and find more information. After showering quickly and getting some grub, she went to her closet and dug through her clothing. She found a cute looking dress. Pulling it out, she found a pair of black Mary Jane dress shoes and dark purple leggings and shooed out all of the servants before getting dressed.

Her dark black curls were already perfectly fixed and the cute little bunny hairclips kept most of it out of her face. She had just fed, so her cheeks were flushed, which brought out her little dimples perfectly. If no one knew just what she was, Rosetti could easily pass off as a nine-year-old, which worked to her advantage most of the time. She quickly tugged on the purple dress that had two different layers to it, the bottom one a dark purple to match the leggings while the top part was a lighter shade with intricate adornments on the front. Unsure whether or not it was cold out, she pulled on a black hooded cloak, buttoning it up. The cloak was also pretty handy for covering her wings. Making her way out of her bedroom, she walked to the front of the mansion and waited for the driver to announce he was ready to take her. A light meow caught her attention, and grinned down at the beautiful white kitten.

“No, you can’t come, NomNom. Stay here and be good.”

The driver honked his horn, and Valentina walked out of the house, sliding into the back of the black SUV. NomNom bounded after her, leaping into the vehicle before the door was closed. Snorting and rolling her eyes, she decided it wasn’t worth arguing with the cat, and motioned for the driver to close the door and head to a nearby drinking establishment. He did so with a nod and she found herself playing with the cat. She knew that he wouldn’t listen to her and honestly felt better with the beast with her, but she wasn’t going to admit that.

“You better be on your best behavior. We don’t want to make anymore enemies than we already have.”

It was probably uncommon to see what appeared to be a nine-year-old walking down the street with a white kitten on the top of her head, but that didn’t make Valentina change her mind. She scrunched her nose up, glancing left and right before crossing the street, heading towards what she hoped to be a familiar building. There were tons of people just milling around outside and she stopped at the edge of the sidewalk, trying to figure out what to do. She wasn’t afraid of them, but from experience, people that saw what they appeared to be a child just wandering around tended to overreact and attempt to take her into a child welfare building.

“Well… NomNom, maybe we should just give them a wide berth, eh?”

NomNom mewed and blinked his blue eyes before shifting his position on her head to get more comfortable. Valentina snerked and stepped back onto the other side of the street, trying to make it appear like she wasn’t looking for someone, but was instead walking to where her parents happened to be at. She was looking for someone, but Lily didn’t appear to be anywhere in this vicinity and the further she walked, the longer it would take to get back to her mansion. Several of the people nearby seemed to hone in on her and she fought to keep from flashing her fangs at them. She needed to find an informant that knew where vampires that were on the run could possibly be hiding, but that appeared to be impossible.

“This is highly irritating…”

Tonight though it wasn't the eyes of well-meaning samaritans that Valentina drew. Crimson eyes shifted to follow her movements as she moved past through the crowd of people milling outside of the building. They were the eyes of a predator, sharp and calculating, and quick to pick up on subtle signs.

Child vampires were relatively uncommon enough that Viktor might have overlooked her as the creature she was, but Sanina's penchant for keeping children around - two of them vampires - left the idea less foreign to him.

It was more than that which drew his attention though. Nare's claim of having been risen by Sanina was still heavy on Viktor's mind; though, his search for any clues or validation behind the story had turned up little. With Nare missing, he had taken Viktor's only potential link to uncovering the truth of whether Sanina had survived that fire a year past or not.

If this child was one of Sanina's...

His hand moved to grab Valentina by the arm, and to draw her attention to himself.

What the child Vampire would find was a well-dressed individual with well-chiseled and angular features. His slanted eyes and slightly pointed ears hinted at his mixed heritage, though it is the crimson hue of his eyes that was the most striking feature about him. There was no display of aggression or predatory inclination painted upon his calm face though, but there was a sharpness to his eyes that betrayed his pointed interest in the girl.

Valentina was so busy trying to find whatever it was or rather whoever it was she was looking for, that she wasn’t paying attention to her other senses. In fact, it wasn’t until it was too late that she realized that someone had been stalking her. Her wings swept outwards as a hand grabbed a hold of her arm, the touch extremely unexpected. NomNom hissed at the figure, but knew better than to challenge the male. Snapping her purple eyes towards him, she took in his appearance and immediately knew what he was. Resting her wings against her purple dress, she bared her fangs at him, hissing under her breath.

“You have exactly ten seconds to remove your hand off my arm before I make you regret ever touching me.”

The humans nearby the group were suddenly watching the two, quite a few of them moving closer to the two. She didn’t care that she looked like a child, because she was much older than that, but of course, no one else knew that. NomNom tensed up on her head, ready to strike if his master commanded him to do so. She didn’t want to give away all of her secrets, but it seriously bothered her that some strange vampire was touching her without her permission. What could he possibly want? Wait, maybe Lily sent him.

“Did my sire, Lily send you to bring me to where she is currently hiding at?”

Lily?

Viktor studied the girl a time longer before he finally released her arm. His hold on her was drawing a lot of unwanted attention from the humans at hand, and letting her go was largely to avoid some well meaning citizen jumping to the assumption that he was in some way accosting the 'child'.

"Pardon me," he replied simply. "I mistook you for another."

He moved to walk past her, continuing on his way.

Valentina blinked when he let her go. It didn’t slip past her that he had been studying her and she couldn’t help but wonder if perhaps he had mistaken her for someone else. That meant she was not any closer to finding Lily, which in turn pissed her off immensely. When he indicated that she had been correct in her thoughts, that he thought her to be another individual, Val crossed both arms against her chest and huffed a little beneath her breath. He said nothing further before stepping past her and heading down the sidewalk.

“Wait! Maybe you can help me out…”! Valentina moved after him, walking incredibly fast thanks to how short her legs were. It took her a little, but she finally managed to catch up to him and luckily, they were far enough away from the crowd that she could ask what she wanted without someone overhearing them and starting a riot or something.

“I know what you are… and I was wondering if you could point me in the direction of an informant that might know where a vampire could be hiding out at or where one could be if they were taken by someone bad.”

Viktor nodded briefly to a piece of paper hung from a nearby post. It was well worn and faded from being subject to the elements, but the words printed upon it were still legible.

The Blood Edict

Let it be known, to all that concern themselves with the goings on of Wing City and surrounding districts, that VANKORYTH DÉTENTE will henceforth be enforcing a strict policie of control over all VAMPYREKIND. No vampyre is to be seen in or around the territory without bidding their full allegiance and commitment to the DÉTENTE by way of deed and action.

FAILURE TO COMPLY will result in DEATH, enforced IMMEDIATELY and with the due judication granted by this decree.

FURTHERMORE, a semi-negociable reward of 10,000 standard will be granted for the delivery of each LIVE VAMPYRE to the gates of the CASTLE VANKORYTH.

CLEMENCY is offered to the former enemies of the DÉTENTE should they wish to align themselves towards this effort, but NONE shall be granted to those who work against it.

SO IT WAS WRITTEN.

It was signed Casren Bistro.

"There are many who hide these days," Viktor explained.

Finding a single vampire among the many would prove difficult, if this Lily had not already been among those taken by the Vankoryth Detante.

He shoved his hands in his pockets as he walked.

Moving over to the piece of paper, Valentina read it silently, her stomach clenching up the more her eyes scanned. Could the DÉTENTE be responsible for Lily’s disappearance? If they were, did that mean she was already dead? No! Never! Val clenched her fists and turned back towards the unknown Vampire, still wondering why she was trusting him. Well, what other choice did she have? She had been searching for her Sire for quite a long time and this was the first time she had some form of lead, even though it really wasn’t a lead. She was busy thinking about what had been written on the piece of paper that she barely noticed him walking off again. Did she follow him and see what else he had to say or just research it on her own? NomNom mewed softly and she realized that being with someone was better than being alone, at least for now. Jogging after him, she hoped he wasn’t getting annoyed by her.

“So… how would I find the DÉTENTE? Or maybe … where would you look to find a hidden vampire? I’m not meaning to bug you, but you’re the first individual that’s given me the time of day in a very long time. Most just see me as a child that should be in an orphanage.” Her legs were already growing tired of walking, but she needed to find out as much as she could before he shooed her away.

NomNom jumped down off her head and morphed into a ginormous strong and deadly White Siberian Tiger. As a tiger, NomNom was almost as tall as a SUV, and his fangs and claws were elongated much like a Sabertooth tiger. While in this form, his flesh had all but rotted off, and he salivated poison that constantly dripped from his fangs. NomNom was in reality, a homunculi formed from her practice in the dark arts. The signs of rot and decay were testament to her imperfect skill at the time of his creation. However, when in kitty form, he’s absolutely CUTE and ADORABLE! Only when he’s in the other form is he rotting. Climbing onto him, Valentina got comfortable and found it much easier to keep up with the stranger.

The stench of decaying flesh was thick in the air, but it wasn't with disgust that Viktor looked to the rotting specimen of a tiger. There was surprise and then uncertainty - though both emotions were brief and fleeting.

The beast was so much akin to those of Sanina's that perhaps for a moment he let doubt worm its way into his mind once more.

"Tell me about this Lily," he replied.

He avoided answering her questions directly, perhaps to avoid the child simply leaving once she had her answers.

“What do you want to know about her? I don’t really know much about her past or how she came to be a Vampire herself. Whenever I asked, she would change the subject, so I just stopped asking. When I was nine-years-old, she saved me from an attacking vampire that slaughtered my family. She turned me soon after and taught me how to do things that most other vampires didn’t know how to do. That’s how this form on NomNom came into play.”

Shrugging a little, Valentina patting NomNom on the head, leaning back a little bit to look up at the sky. Anyone that happened to be in the same vicinity of the two seemed to give them a wide berth, but that was probably thanks to the appearance of her large cat. She wondered why he wanted to know so much about Lily, but maybe he spotted someone that he didn’t recognize and maybe she was that very individual.

“She’s got black hair with red streaks that run through its length with matching black eyes. Have you seen her?”

Viktor thought a time as they walked before he answered her inquiry. "I don't believe I have," he replied. "Come, this is no place to discuss such matters."

He wasn't entirely sure why he extended the invitation. Perhaps it was the childlike appearance of the vampire at his side, or perhaps it was the nature of her feline companion that drew up a sense of familiarity from him. Or perhaps it was simply a rare desire for companionship for a time.

He turned down another street heading towards Lady Une Drive, leaving Valentina to decide whether to follow or stay.

Why was she letting her hopes get up? The likelihood of Viktor spotting Lily was slim and none, but there was still that slight chance. NomNom didn’t seem to mind people staring and pointing at him and flashed a few of his very sharp fangs towards anyone that managed to get to close for his comfort. Valentina shook her head, prodding him in the nose, a motion that served as a reminder that they didn’t need to draw attention to themselves. He seemed too understood and stopped showing off his aggressiveness. Returning her attention towards Viktor, she frowned a little when he indicated that no, he didn’t think he had ran into Lily. Why couldn’t she get a break?

“Hnn… oh why not…” Her delayed response was in reference to his invitation to discuss matters elsewhere. NomNom hadn’t bitten the man’s leg off yet, which meant he could at least be trusted to an extent, which was good enough for her. Leaning forward a little in an attempt to get a little more comfortable, she nudged her ride a little to get him to follow the stranger.

“So… where are we going? Do you know of anyone else that might know of her location?”

Viktor led Valentina to Lady Une Drive in relative silence, though the rather decadent region of the city was likely well familiar to her as it was likely likely that she herself been enjoying the luxuries of the wealthy neighborhood.

Viktor's townhouse was an elegant piece of property, though modest in size next to some of the larger manors and properties that filled out Lady Une Drive. Opening the door, he led the way inside, pausing only briefly to cast a glance towards the undead feline.

No doubt his house-cleaners would have words come morning after having the rotting animal traipsing around on the white carpeting. Everything about the interior of the building seemed meticulously kept and immaculately clean.

Once inside Viktor approached a display stand where he took a moment to remove his sword from beneath his coat to place it back upon its display. A handgun followed, which was set upon a lower shelf. He paused to pick up a small silver cross that was strung on a chain and he ran his fingers over it briefly. There were other displays in the room, many sporting antiques and it would seem that much of Viktor's wealth could be found right here within the building.

"I will see what I can find about this Lily of yours," he spoke finally. "In the meanwhile it's safer off the streets."

There was an impassive neutrality to his words as he placed the silver cross back in its place upon the display stand.

Was she allowing herself to be lead into a trap? As the two of them walked along the fairly empty streets, Val couldn’t help but wonder why she was trusting this male so much. Of course, NomNom’s acceptance of the Vampire was probably the main reason why they were still following behind Vikor. Scrunching up her nose, she glanced up at the sky, trying to imagine what Lily was currently up to at that moment. Maybe she had been attacked and is now laying low or maybe she killed someone and is laying low. It was difficult to remain positive, but she knew that just giving up hope wouldn’t do her or her sire a bit of good. Looking forward, she took note of where they were heading and couldn’t help but realize just how close he lived to her own mansion. That was rather suspect, but she pushed the suspicious thoughts out of her mind.

“Hold up, Nommers.”

NomNom stopped just outside of Viktor’s front door, allowing her to slide down off of him before he reversed himself back into his cute little fluffy white kitty form. He quickly shook off any leftover undead bits before flopping over at her feet. Reaching down, she picked him up and stepped inside of the beautiful manor. The carpet was quite white, which was her main reasoning behind having NomNom return to his normal form. She had also caught the glance that Viktor had shot back towards her beast. The place was definitely a lot neater than her, but that was because Lily had just recently fired their help because they were stealing from them. She was quite relieved that he was willing to find out more about Lily and sighed softly.

“Thank you, I really appreciate it. She means the world to me and I wouldn’t know what to do without her… So, uhh, this is a mighty nice place you’ve got here. I guess you trust me enough to bring me here, hnn? I’ll give you any information that I know about her if it’ll help.”

"I will see what I can learn," Viktor told her. "What's your name?" he asked.

He turned away from the display stand and put his hands back in his pockets. He wasn't entirely used to having people over. Well, people he didn't know anyways. Varia and Christian came by often enough.

"Do you have somewhere to stay in the meanwhile?" he asked.

“Oh, right! I guess I should introduce myself. Forgive me, I’m not really used to interacting with others without having Lily around to buffer what is being said and done. I’m still new to this whole Vampire thing and make a lot of childish mistakes. Anywho! The name is Valentina Rosetti and this here is NomNom. He protects me and all that junk,” she answered quite enthusiastically, her hair bobbing with every word she spoke.

Valentina patted NomNom on the head before picking him up and setting him on her shoulder. That was generally his perching spot other than her head and she figured it was best to put him there instead of having him jump up and chance breaking something important. He didn’t seem to mind being picked up as opposed to jumping up, which just meant he was being a lazy butt today. Her nose scrunched up a little as she studied him closely. Just what was his deal anyways? Her train of thought was interrupted when he asked if she had somewhere to stay.

“Oh! Sure, I’ve got a place – well, it’s Lily’s place, but well, her mansion-manor thingy is quite nearby. In fact, how do I know you didn’t kidnap her and lure me back here to complete some ritual or something?!” Paranoid? No, not her.

The evening was young yet and a man and woman conversed quietly upon one of the many street corners of the Wing City Business District - as they often did under the cover of darkness. Late night strollers and vehicles drove past, but the woman was suitably enthralled by the young man.

Her name was Naomi, and couldn't have been more than nineteen or twenty years old. Likely fresh to working these streets.

The man was well dressed, and his clothes reflected his wealth - but it wasn't unusual for the wealthy to find their way to these streets at night. Many lonely businessmen and men of wealth were drawn to the evenings companionship that money could offer.

He smiled a disarming smile and brushed a few strands of hair from her face before gesturing for her to join him.

"Do you have an apartment around here?" she asked.

"Something like that..." he replied.

He seemed charming enough she thought, and more normal than some of the clientele she gets out here at night. She felt comfortable with him, and she didn't even question when he brushed a hand against her lower back, guiding her to step down a quiet side street with him.

Out of the illumination of the main street lights, the two had some measure of privacy as he drew her into the the small doorway of a closed shop. His fingers trailed across her waist as she found her back pressed against the wall just outside of the locked door.

"Right here?" she asked with a raise of her brow.

"Is that a problem?" he asked.

He palmed a few bills into her hand as he nuzzled at her throat, inhaling her scent.

"Honey, for this much I would do you right in the street," she told him.

His pressed his lips to the crook of her neck, between her throat and shoulder while one of her hands found its way inside his coat. He could feel the quickening of her pulse through the skin of her throat, and smell the faint scent of shampoo upon her hair. It was intoxicating.

It wasn't sex he was after though.

He struck swiftly as he clamped a hand over her mouth to stifle her screams before he bit into her throat. Her eyes went wide as her arousal turned to fear and panic. Her pulse was all over the place as she struggled against him. It drew a low guttural growl from his throat but he didn't release her.

He had it within his power to lull his victims into a trance, to dull their senses and to leave them unaware of what was happening to them, as he also had it within him to feed without killing which he often preferred to do. Not tonight though. Tonight he wanted to smell her fear, and feel her feeble attempts at fighting the inevitable.

He hadn't known blood lust like this since his early months of turning, but Talyria had left him weakened and drained. The blood loss had drawn a hunger and aggression up out of him that bordered on primal, and the woman's muffled cries against the firm clamp of his hand only urged him onward.

For the longest time, Valentina had been growing increasingly distressed every time a potential lead on her missing sire ended in a dead end. She had already lost track of how long it had been since Lily first disappeared, but it was obvious that either the Vampire was long gone, or she was so far in hiding that no one was ever going to find her. Either way, Val felt alone and didn’t know what to do nor could she do much because of her appearance. No one was going to hire someone that looked like a child to do a job or allow her to buy adult type beverages or anything fun. Money wasn’t necessarily an issue for her because she was extremely well off thanks to Lily, but that wasn’t the point.

All of her searching finally came to an end however on an otherwise beautiful night in the Wing City Business District. She wasn’t even looking for Lily, but had gone out just to people watch. That fateful night played out like most nights did for her. She picked up on a male she could feed from and after lulling him into a sense of security, she led him into an alley near a coffee shop with the lie that her mother had been attacked and needed help. Once he was away from the crowd however, she started to move into phase two of her plan, but a slumped over figure caught her attention. While she was moving towards the form, he ran off, leaving her alone in the alley.

“Hmm… I really shouldn’t look. It’s probably just a drugged out human…” Valentina debated for a few minutes before lifting up the cloth that covered up the unidentified individual. Gasping, she backed away and dropped down to her knees sobbing. There, right in front of her was her very dead sire. From the grievous injuries, it was obvious that she had been tortured with silver, holy water, and parts of her body had been removed. In fact, her head had been completely detached and was sitting crudely on her stomach. From the state of the body, it was obvious she had been killed elsewhere and dropped here to be found by someone. Slumping down, she started to cry, mourning the only person she had left.

“Nooooo……!!!!!!!!!!!” After a minute or two, she slid to her feet and recovered her sire before stumbling out of the alley.

She wasn't particularly paying attention to where she was going and nearly slammed into a couple apparently making out near a closed shop. Backing away, she glanced up with tear-filled eyes and found herself staring at Viktor very aggressively munching on the woman. Gasping, she covered her mouth, her eyes wide not necessarily in fear, but some other emotion the young vampire couldn't place at the moment. Even as his victim continued to try and get away and cried, albeit muffled, Valentina continued to stare at him in near shock at his violence. He had seemed so different when they spoke before. Frowning, she backed away even more, about to turn and flee.

Viktor's blood lust overwhelmed his senses leaving him blind to his surroundings. The woman in his arms reached for Valentina with an outstretched arm as if to say 'help me', but another low growl tore from Viktor's throat as he gripped the woman with crushing force. Her heartbeat was weak and thready, tears streamed down her face, but soon it was over as her head rolled back and her struggles ceased.

He released her and left the body to crumple to the ground, littered with the bills he had handed her.

The wound in her throat wasn't the neat puncture wounds of his usual victims, and the gaping wound looked like an animal had ravaged her throat.

He felt rejuvenated and energized, and his senses were on fire. But he also wasn't alone. He looked to Valentina, noting the shock on her face with the same sort of calm detachment as he had displayed when they had first met. She had been crying he noted. It was then that he caught the scent of death on the air - old death.

"What happened?" he asked.

Just like that the dead hooker was forgotten, and a calm, dignified facade slipped smoothly back into place.

Even as the woman tried to reach for Valentina, her eyes begging for help, the small Vampire continued to stand in place, her feet refusing to do anything except plant themselves against the ground. Her fingers remained against her mouth and for the first time in a while, she felt unsure what to do. To anyone looking, it would just seem like the girl was in shock because she was witnessing a sexual act, but that was so far from the truth. By the time the woman was devoid of life, Valentina still hadn’t moved, though she did step back another step to make sure the body didn’t fall on her.

Shifting her gaze across the female’s figure, Val wondered if she was an orphan or if she had family somewhere. From the woman’s clothing it was obvious she was a hooker, but that didn’t make the incident any less tragic. This was the first time she had witnessed a death occurring from a Vampire feeding and she couldn’t help but wonder if it happened more than she knew. Shaking her head, trying to clear her head, she shifted her purple eyes back towards Viktor, she bit down on her bottom lip, her thoughts drifting back to the scene in the alley.

“…I found Lily. She’s over in that alley…” Valentina just pointed, gnawing harder on her bottom lip.

Viktor's eyes followed her finger. "Wait here," he told her as he moved towards the alley. The scent grew stronger as he approached, and he briefly wondered how he had failed to note it earlier. The body must have just been dumped. But why here, and now?

He didn't need to enter the alley as he saw the brutality that had been enacted upon the dead woman. Was it a coincidence, a warning?

It was with measured strides that he rejoined Valentina.

"Come, we shouldn't linger," he told her.

He threw a cautious glance around them before heading across the street with his hands in his pockets as if nothing was amiss. If there were hunters in the area, the last place they wanted to be found was standing over the dead body of a human. The police would have two bodies to sort out come morning, but Viktor's survival instincts compelled him to put distance from the area rather than take the necessary time to dispose of the bodies properly.

Something about what he had seen in that alley had put him on edge.

Even if she had wanted to move, her feet weren’t cooperating, so Valentina just nodded and watched him walk towards where she had pointed. Her body felt numb and she wondered if it was possible for her to go into shock. Possibly, but she would never admit it even if it did happen. Glancing back towards the dead woman, the Vampire frowned a little and shifted her gaze away, glad when a familiar shape came bounding towards her. Letting out a soft meow, NomNom jumped up onto her shoulder, nuzzling her cheek before making his home on her head like usual. She felt a little better with her companion, but not by much.

“She’s gone, NomNom…” Valentina whispered out the words, almost afraid that admitting it out loud would make her forget everything about her sire, which wasn’t the case.

When Viktor rejoined her, she just stared up at him and nodded without a word. Moving quickly beside him, she wanted to ask why they needed to leave, but then her brain began to work and she realized that being around two dead bodies wasn’t a good thing. But… still… they were just leaving Lily there. Sulking even more, she just kept her mouth shut and tried her best to keep up with him. Finally, it bugged her enough that she tilted her head towards him a little before speaking softly.

“Why didn’t… I mean, she was my sire… and I … we just left her there… like that… I… I … it just seems wrong.”

"And I left mine to burn in a house fire," Viktor told her.

He hadn't been back to the manor since that night he thought. It left a stab of guilt within him, but he put it from his mind.

"She's dead, nothing you do with her body is going to change that. Look to the living," he told her as his eyes shifted from side to side before choosing another back road as he guided her down it.

His instincts were on fire, they were being followed he was sure of it. In his haste to avoid any police, he had opted for these darker back roads, when he should have kept to the main street where they could blend among the crowds.

Up ahead a figure stepped out into the street. A coincidence? No, something was wrong. Viktor moved an arm to stay Valentina from moving further down the street, shielding her with his arm and body. He had no cause to protect her, and yet he found himself doing so none-the-less.

At their back could be heard the footsteps of two more individuals.

"Climb, and don't stop," he whispered huskily.

Was that fear in his voice?

Without waiting for her to answer, he grabbed hold of her and hoisted her up towards the railing of the fire escape overhead.

Valentina frowned even more at his comment, but didn’t say anything further. She often forgot that there were all kinds of Vampires and not everyone thought as she did, nor did she have the same thought process as them. That was probably a good thing or terrible things probably would happen. She knew that even burying Lily wouldn’t bring her back, but it just seemed like the right thing to do. After all, she had buried her parents and all the children and maids she accidentally killed when first turned, what was the difference? So caught up in her thoughts of the past, Valentina didn’t even realize they were in danger. Probably another side effect of being alone for so long and never really interacting with other Vampires.

“…What’s wrong?” She whispered her words, not moving beyond his body once she noticed the male down the street a little. In fact, she might have slid behind him just a little bit more. NomNom hissed, his fur standing on end though he remained on her head.

Climb? Valentina started to question his comment when she was suddenly hefted up towards the fire escape. Deciding now wasn’t the time to be curious, she did exactly as he told her to do. She quickly shimmied up, well as quickly as she could considering she was rather small. She had no idea what was going on, but with what had happened to Lily, nothing but bad thoughts were running through her head.

Viktor threw a glance in either direction as the the sound of footsteps turned to a run as it became apparent that the two vampires were making to escape. He waited only long enough for Valentina to hoist herself up over the railing before he pulled himself up after her, making their way up the fire escape as quickly as they could.

There was a shout from the street before a crossbow was loosed at the pair.

The bolt struck true, drawing a snarl from Viktor as he stumbled. The quarrel had struck him in the lower back, and the head of it protruded out the other side of his body. He didn't stop to see to the injury though as he urged Valentina on.

Down below the fire escape began to rattle and shake as more bodies began to clamber their way up it. Reaching the third floor of the office building, Viktor smashed his elbow into a window and ushered Valentina inside before he joined her.

Now it was him who was slowing them down as he caught himself against the window frame with a grimace. They were in a hall lined with office buildings, and there was a stairwell at the other far end. He nodded her towards it before following along.
