History: Valeria, or Val, was born and raised in Jynthic Scientific Laboratories. She was the only child that wasn't kidnapped or sold into the facility, in fact her mother was one of the leading scientists working on the project and the genetic alteration for her began when she was still in the womb. She is classified differently from the other children as a Class I-A because of her unusual abilities. When she was younger, the ability that manifested in Val was Pyrokinesis and she could manipulate the thermodynamics of an item from up to 700 yards away. This was the power that she trained in until at the age of 12 she went swimming with her friend, Mirabelle (Whose power was Electrokinesis) and Mira accidentally sent a wave of electric energy into the water, killing Valeria.

The scientists tried everything that could to revive the fallen girl but their efforts proved useless. Being the first and only child to die in the facility, they didn't know what to do with her so they laid her down on an examination table in the MedBay until they could find her mother to break the news. The next day, her mother came to identify the body and to say goodbye to her daughter but when the scientists opened the door Valeria was sitting on the floor, playing with various things in an effort to entertain herself.

Upon further study, the Laboratory found out that Valeria's energy signature had changed after her 'death' and that she could no longer command fire like she used to but within a few weeks they realized that another power had manifested- Teleportation. Thankfully the girl has only died twice but with each death she seems to be reincarnated and when she comes back she has a new power. Her nickname with the Lab is 'Phoenix' but no one outside of the labs calls her that. She has been on her own since age 18.

So begins...

Valeria suddenly grinned. The General's reaction wasn't all together unpredictable but still, his singleminded focus on whoever was setting her up was admirable. At least he wanted to try to solve the case instead of letting her burn at the stake, eh?

So, she complied. Slipping her cellphone from her pocket, she handed it in his direction and waited for him to retrieve it from her hand. Perhaps she was a little too trusting of this General and his story but then again, she hadn't been given a reason thus far to fear him or not trust him yet. "Here ya go, Cap'n. Anything else?" She shrugged and tacked on, "I'm complying because jail's really not my thing. Y'know? Especially for something I didn't do."

Wrinkling her nose at his serious attitude, Valeria accepted her phone back and slid it into the same pocket it had been extracted from. "So what's the plan, then? I just wander around, business as usual until you guys come swooping in? Do you guys even have any leads? Anyone that would've known your local systems?"

Chewing on her lower lip, she dragged it between her teeth several times before asking yet another series of questions. "Anything else that you need me to do? Anyone specifically that I should look out for?"

Unsavoury?! He knew where she worked, so how in the hell could she avoid unsavoury places? Hell, work and all the areas surrounding it were considered as such. A grin split her features and she laughed, shaking her head slightly at the thought.

"General, excuse my bluntness but I don't exactly work in the Ritz, y'know?" Her eyes tracked the newcomers briefly before returning her gaze to Walker with an amused expression still lighting up her face. "Unless you want me to take a sudden and unexplained vacation, I'm afraid that I'm stuck in the middle of Unsavoury Central."

Valeria's face fell and she tried to prevent her eyes from rolling. Why couldn't she be working with some hunky guy like in the movies? Serious but willing to laugh with a body that wouldn't quit? Instead, she was stuck with someone more serious than her grandfather and just about as old with less of a personality.

why did things never go her way?

Sighing, she nodded and fought the urge to salute. "Yessir. Don't worry about me. I haven't so much as a speeding ticket to my name so I'll play a good little decoy."

Valeria sat behind the bar, allowing the robotic tenders to maintain most of the service in the place while she kept an eye out for malfunctions. One of her regulars had come through the other day and said that a new girl was behind the bar and had claimed the robotic servers had been down due to technical difficulty, which she found hard to believe. Gambit's hosted some of the best equipment around and that included the rather unentertaining waitstaff.

For now, she had her elbow resting against the counter with her chin resting in her upturned palm. Eavesdropping on the clientele wasn't proving to be too fascinating but she couldn't just fall asleep on the job. The boss man had a way of finding out when that happened.

The Ex-General was had to miss in a place like Gambit's and he didn't exactly attempt stealth, either. When he pushed through the door, she slid off of her seat and stood up behind the counter as she waited for him to near and her brow arched at the mention of news.

"Did you find your hacker?" She asked, eyes dropping to the strange device that he had tucked beneath his arm.

Valeria tossed both of her arms into the air as if she were at a football game watching someone score a touchdown. "Woo! So that's it, I'm off the hook right?"

Then reality seeped in and she blinked at the screen for a moment. "Hey, wait. Some hooker broke into my place and you guys didn't DO anything? I thought the whole point of playing bait was that you guys would swoop in and save me if shitstuff got real?"

Disappointment filled Valeria's features and her lips flowed into a frown before she could help herself. "Who in the hell would have a anything against me?" Once more, she tried to scan through memories to recall any fights or grievances but couldn't find any worthy of pinning a crime against her.

"What could you use me for? Not to downplay my amazing abilities but I am just a bartender. My... other skills haven't been used in quite awhile." She chose her words carefully in case he was right. Just in case the broad that broke into her apartment was listening in right now. "I need to get better security in my place..." she grumbled to herself.

Valeria's gaze had been roaming the bar as the Ex-General spoke, trying to discern where a listening device would be located. It wasn't like she was a techie though. Unless someone was blatantly pointing a sound amplifier in her general direction, she probably wouldn't even notice what was going on.

"A ship?" She parroted back to the man, her eyes flicking back to him quickly with interest. "Sure thing. Let me know when the party's starting and I'll be there, Cap'n."

The paper? How old school was that? People streamed their news onto their universal devices nowadays. Still, she didn't want to tell this man anything of the sort. So she just took down the meeting time and place and gave a quick nod as he said his goodbyes.

"Bye and thanks," she still looked a bit worried but she smiled nonetheless. "Can't wait to find out who this chick is..." the last words were said in a softer, slightly angrier tone.

Valeria couldn’t help her lower jaw from dropping an inch or so as she entered the shuttle. The most daring vehicle she had ever been on was an airplane while flying around the states but nothing that ascended into space.

Holy hell, this year kept getting weirder and weirder.

Chucking her messenger bag into the compartment that Walker had gestured towards, the bartender followed orders if for no other reason than this was all new to her. Even her apprehension at the meeting itself was left in the shadow of awe and she strapped herself into her seat. The faster they got there, the faster she could say she was in space.

Space!

“Slight G-force?” She echoed, both brows arching simultaneously as she looked over at Walker. He looked calm as ever, almost bored with everything going on around him and she shook her head. Val was unable to understand his apparent apathy.

They were going into space!

Whereas the General seemed to sink into sleep, Valeria couldn’t help herself and she started drumming her fingers upon her thigh. One of the ways that someone could tell she was antsy or excited about something. Tap, tap, taptaptap. Tap, tap, tap-tapataptap.

'Discomfort' was an appropriate term for what she experienced while they launched but she was so incredibly excited about the trip into space that it really didn't faze her. She had clenched her teeth, bearing the odd sensations and just as quickly as they came upon her, they went away again.

"How many times have you launched into space?" The bartender turned her head, looking towards Walker before her pale blue eyes darted to the window once more. She barely let him speak before she threw another question at him, "How can this not be awe inspiring to you? I don't think this would ever get old. I mean.. Look at it!"

A voice sounded overhead, feminine this time, and Valeria raised a brow. "AI? VI?"

“Ahh. I pity you, that. This is epic.” Her voice had hushed considerably as she stared out of the window, trying her best not to look directly at anything that could cause her to go blind. Her fingers continued their rhythmic beat upon her jean-clad thigh and when she caught the first glimpse of the ship they were approaching, her eyes widened once more.

“That is where we’re going? Holy hell.”

Once again, a surprise look flashed across Valeria’s features and she finally tore her gaze away from the window to stare at Walker. “It was a valuable tablet and you used it as bait? Did you at least have a tracker or something on it? ‘Cause what if I don’t recognize anyone? Hopefully this isn’t all riding on me…”

Worry etched her features and she slid a thumb down behind the safety strap that held her to the seat. “If you have their faces, I assume you’ve run some sort of investigation on them?!” Being a bartender, she knew little in the way of security but as a normal citizen, the movies taught her a great deal. Whether it was factual or not.

Eager to get moving, Valeria unsnapped her safety harness and jumped up, rushing to snatch up her backpack. She shifted her stance while she waited for the Ex-General to take the lead, putting her weight on her left leg, then right, then back again as if she was impatient to get moving.

"I still don't see how I can help identify but..." Her eyes widened slightly as they began to disembark and her speech stopped momentarily. "I have to say, either way this has been a wild ride..."

Like a child hitting up the North Pole or a 21-year old visiting Las Vegas for the first time, Valeria's eyes seemed to be widened in a constant state of shock and awe. Everything was incredibly high tech considering what she had grown up with and with this being her first time on an actual spaceship, everything seemed even more jaw-dropping than before. "Wow," she murmured, breaking out of her reverie only when asked if she wanted a coffee and in reply she gave a short nod. "Yeah, sure. Thanks. A double double? Ahhh..." She paused, grinning as she slid into one of the seats as directed and clarified her request. "Two creams, two sugars, if you have 'em?"

Valeria propped both of her elbows onto the table in front of her and clasped her hands together in the air so that she had something to rest her chin upon. "How did you foil it? You said it was a set up, right?" She leaned in, peering closely at the article before the General folded the paper up to work on the puzzles and her gaze reverted back to its roaming stare. She had grown up in a lab then as soon as she was released she ended up in a dinky little joint in New Mexico. This was impressive. Beyond belief and she intended to soak up everything she could while here.

"Do you live on the ship? When do we look at the video? Are we waiting for someone else?" Her questions came rapid-fire from her lips and her blue eyes continued to peer at the various computers to see if she could see what everyone was working on.

Valeria arched an eyebrow and her gaze immediately went to the General's face. "Is this some kind of joke?" She pushed the paper, sending it skittering back across the table before leaning back in her seat. "Remember during one of our meetings? I asked if you had written a note for me and left it at my apartment. It read "Sucks: ToBeYou." Her blue eyes sought his, trying to see if there was a flicker of remembrance.

"Two notes. Same thing. Same odd way of writing...." She pointed to the phrasing, her finger jabbing into the paper. "What kind of game are you playing, General?"

Chaos. The notes that she had been left were clues, albeit clues that she had brought to the General's attention even if he dismissed her questions about them earlier. Yet before she could ask any questions about the mysterious 'woman' and 'ex-employee' that they were searching for, a man approached their table and the news broke that the ship was being hacked.

On the ship...?

Those words echoed in her mind even as the General directed the man to get her to a safe location and her eyes widened yet again at the words 'armed and dangerous'.

"Whoa whoa whoa... Hold up here. Is this the same chick that broke into my apartment? This ex-employee?" She pushed up out of her seat, ready to follow the man as directed but she wanted answers, no matter how curt they were.
