The answers led him here. The questions he had asked had pointed him this way, to his relatives that may or may have died. Varyn pulled his gloves tighter around his palms, splaying his fingertips against the ajar doorway, a mess of inky blackness escaping the confines of his fingertips and soaking into the door like paint.

Empty. Silent. Quiet. Abandoned.

"Just how I like it." Varyn whispered, stepping forward to start the break in.

"Yo!" Suddenly came a voice from behind Varyn "yado-seh, kehkai vec tosh deska?"

It was a female voice, a little raspy but very calm, from the tone of the voice, they sounded as though they were asking a question in skepticism. "Maho da kun ekkeko daska? eh Yado-seh?" the voice seemed to ask

Varyn almost leaped out of his skin, snatching his hand back from the door and whipping around. Varyn looked her up and down and hiding his hand behind his back as he mentally forced the ink back into his flesh. When people caught him sneaking around places with his hand a wreathing mess of black ink, they usually got the wrong idea.

"I don't understand you." Varyn replied, she was fairly attractive, that was one of the most obvious things he'd noticed so far.

"You speak English?"

Requiem rose an eyebrow "English?" she repeated looking at Varyn "Hmmmmmmm Da da, bahk de kon de mon" she mumbled to herself before folding her arms "I wouldn't go in there if I were ya kid" she said in English, her voice was accented with something that slightly resembled Scottish or British, but obviously not from around the local area "I was askin ya ifin ya had a death wish? folks roun 'ere say all kinds o' nasteh things about this place"

"Kid? I'm a little older than that." Varyn replied, flexing the hand behind his back. "I'm an Inkson, madam. I think my relatives used to live here, I'm trying to find them." He nodded, pointing into the empty building. "Thanks for the warning though." Varyn gave a little shrug, hoping that since he was an Inkson he wouldn't become one of those nasty things.

"Tell you what, you look like you could handle yourself, how bout' you join me in finding anything that could help me find my folks?"

Requiem looked up at the sky for a moment as if waiting for something "Ogri senz esk Oasa-jyn" she said quietly before looking back to Varyn and placed a hand on the handle of her sword, which rested on her lower back

"I've never heard of an Inkson before, does that mean ya have some kind of special ability?" she asked then shook her head "Nah never mind, with me with ya it shouldn't even matter" she said stepping towards him "I've got enough strength for 30 o' ya" she said with a cocky grin.

Varyn smiled. "Yeh and no. Inkson's have been around for a long time." He paused as he opened the door and stepped inside, taking in the peeling wallpaper of the entrance and the torches that still were burning. "A few of my family used to live here, I'm trying to find if some of us are still alive." Varyn turned around to face her. "What's that you're speakin'?"

Varyn ran a hand along the dirty wallpaper. "You a swordsma- Er, swordswoman too?"

Requiem followed him in and took in everything that she could see, thedank musky air filled her nose and her wolf like ears twitched on her head as she took in any sound that might seem out of place. Her snow whit wolf tail swayed slowly behind her as she looked at him when he turned around "Someone once told me holding on to remnants of the past clouds the future from sight" she said almost absent mindedly "I was speaking Anthian, i'

"Sounds like a wise guy. I never had much thought as to the future, always wanted to know why I came to be." Varyn looked to the stairs in the decrypt hallway before shrugging. "Might have some luck in the offices if they haven't been vandalised yet." Varyn added, putting a hand on his hip.

The doors behind them slammed shut with a loud bang. Varyn didn't jump, he did have a little warning from the fox eared stranger. "Well, can't say I'm too surprised." He gave her an apologetic smile and offered her his hand. "Varyn, and who might be my sword slinging companion for tonight?"

Scary things didn't seem to effect the Inkson much.

As the door slammed shut Requiem didn't jump either though her ears laid back on her head for a moment before perking back up "Requiem" she said taking his hand and shaking it firmly, her silver and crimson eyes seemed to sparkle with something "I'm just a nobody" she said with a kind smile

"Well i'll tell you one thing Varyn, this place is seething with unstable energies. There is a possibility that we could come across quite literally anything" she said walking forward, her one piece dress revealed a lot of skin, one could question it's practicality in battle as far as defense goes. Her boots echoed through the dimly lit darkness. "Well there is a lot of space to search and I don't even know what we're looking for" she said folding her arms again

"Anything. Papers, photos, charts. If it has someone that looks like me or shares my name, that's what I'm here for. If you're looking for uh..." Varyn lowered his voice just in case anything might have been listening in. "Economic windfall, feel free to take what you want, not like I'll inherit the damn place." Varyn walked along the hallway, dragging a hand along the dried walls and keeping his eyes low.

"Yeah, join the club of nobodies. I doubt the rest of my family knows I exist." Varyn stopped at the end of the hallway ending in the large double doors. "You watch my back while I pick the doors?"

"Sorry i'm on a tight schedule so i'd like ta get this ova with" Requiem said as she walked past Varyn "Hell yeah!" she yelled as she thrust kicked the doors that were in front of them. Unless the doors were sealed by some kind of magic, Requiem could probably bust it down. There was a lot of power in that 5'5 body

Varyn jumped back from the door. So much for being quiet. He winced when the door slammed into the wall on the other side of a large ballroom lined with dozens, upon dozens of dining tables and layered with dust. Varyn stepped inside and hunched over one of the dining tables, wiping the surface free of dust and splaying his left hand on the table.

The wood creaked as the ink freed itself from his body, shooting though his veins and travelling though the tables searching for anything to do with people like him. The ink had searched every inch of the tables, travelling though the wood and had found nothing.

Varyn retracted his hand and flipped the table in an impressive display of anger.

Requiem entered the room behind Varyn. She let her silver and crimson eyes scan the ballroom. She examined the large stained glass windows and paintings that lined the walls, dimly lit by the somehow still flickering torches in the otherwise abandoned house.

She found herself straying into her thoughts but was brought back suddenly by the crashing of the table in which Varyn had flipped. She spun on the spot and gripped the hilt of her sword as her eyes darted all around the room before landing back on Varyn "Jeeze Yado-seh, What did that thing ever do to you?" she asked with a relieved sigh

Where were they? Varyn thought, turning around to sit on a nearby table that wasn't flipped. "I've been looking for a long time, beginning to feel like a one stop shop towards disappointment. Figures that my family is really good at covering their tracks." He scoffed, standing up and patting the dust off his butt. "Sorry about the shock."

"I'd offer you a dance but there's no musi-" It was then, the sound of ghostly music echoed from the far end of the ballroom. Varyn looked alarmed for a brief second and brought a finger to his lips, hissing a shush and pointing down at the curtains hiding the source of the sound.

Haunted was truly an understatement.

Requiem smiled softly as he spoke and walked towards him, only to stop as the music had started. Her ears twitched and her tail poofed out slightly, an embarrassing trait of hers when she sensed danger near her. She gripped the handle of her sword and bit down on her free hand thumbnail. What would Kyle do in this situation? she wondered before looking back towards Varyn "You're show boss, what do we do?" she asked in a low voice

Varyn lowered into a crouch, sliding a short dagger out from a leather sheath inside his coat and holding it behind his back. The far end of the ballroom was covered by an elaborate crimson quilt that was meant to be pulled back to allow the space for a band to play the music for the night, if she permitted him, he'd lead her in a crouch towards the curtain and stop at the stairs up to the platform.

Varyn looked at Reis and nodded at her, raising his knife and reaching for the curtain. "Ready?"

Varyn threw open the curtain, ready to strike. The curtain rippled and revealed to them...

Varyn had expected some form of creature rearing to tear his face off from Reis' earlier warning about the mansion being a hotspot for rifts. What he had expected wasn't there, what was there was a piano, an empty guitar stand and a collection of discarded and dusty musical instruments, including a large harp with broken strings.

The ghostly music had changed direction, instead coming back from the hallway now. Varyn turned to Reis and sheathed his knife and gave her an incredulous look. "I really hate ghosts. I guess they're gonna keep us busy and it'd be better for us to get out of here when I get what I want." He said, pointing back at the hallway.

"Let's go up that staircase and see what we can find. You still remember what we're lookin' for?"
