A lone sandslash sporting a cowboy hat sat burrowing determinedly into the soil with little claws clearing away dirt in no time at all.

Swiping a claw across his forehead Verse decided his digging could wait. Right now he needed to cool off. He wandered down towards the river, dipping his nose down towards it, sipping from the cool waters before his black beady eyes locked onto a rare sight.

Verse rose to stand, well as close to as he could, and reached for the edge of his hat to tug it down. "Howdy," he offered, "Just taking a wander and a drink. Haven't seen your kind 'round here before, but you seem to speak my language. What can I call you?"

"Mm, I got a trainer," Verse answered with a nod, "Grace doesn' really order me 'round much though. I go wandering on my own on missions every now and again, so long as I report back to her every few days so she knows I'm okay."

"I've been here all day. If some fella's been following me they ain't been followin' me real far."

Of course, to any non-pokemon this would sound only like, "Sand. Sandslash, slash, sand, sandslash sand."

"Why din't you accept?" he asked with a shrug. "Jus' sayin', if I had to choose 'tween fightin' my significant other and bein' captured I'd probably take the capture option. Least they'd listen to me then." He scratched at his jaw for a moment before narrowing his eyes at her.

"Don' mind me. I'm onnuthem priveledged types, who don' spend much time in the ball."

"Well gush darn sucks," he said sympathetically, "But can' say I was in the same boat sorry. You should take a looksie on humans these days. And elves. They ain't all that bad."

"Legendary?" he echoed, followed by a long drawn out whistle.

Wait, Sandslash could whistle?!

"Probly why I ain't never heard of you."

Rain? Bluh! Not for this Sandslash. He tugged down his hat. "An' that' my queue to leave," he mumbled, heading back for the hole he had dug to make a burrow or somethin.

Verse wasn't going to admit it any time soon but he was damn lost. And that was the least of his worries. He could handle the desert. It was in his blood to. In fact a sandstorm did little more than ruffle the cowboy hat on top of the yellow creatures head as he dug one claw into the sand and hurried onward. Sand was not only in his nature, but in his name too. A Sandslash that wasn't around here, but no stranger to trouble. He was really hoping to find someone, anyone, that could lend a hand.

It actually bugged him. He hated asking for help.

Lateo walked aimlessly toward what he hoped was his destination, although he hadn't the slightest idea where that was. He had a name in his mind: Dragonspiral tower. He felt as if he was being guided in the correct direction. The Golurk took long strides as strolled through the desert. The sand rumbled ever so slightly whenever his foot hit the ground. Lateo strode past a Sandlsash. Not paying him any mind.

Dragonspiral Tower was his destination and he would get there. Lateo had this nagging feeling in the back of his mind that he could get there quicker be some other means of travel besides walking, but Lateo wasn't one hundred percent sure what those means were.

Verse hadn't noticed the sound of the approaching Golurk. It was hard to with the wind whistling. But dammit he noticed it when it passed, to the point where he instinctively curled into a ball until the other 'mon passed. He slowly uncurled and had the most peculiar look on his face. "Uh, hey," he called out, "Are you a local or somethin'? I've got a real problem that I kind of need help with." He dug in and started chasing after Lateo the best he could with one claw holding down his hat.

Lateo stopped when the Sandslash spoke. He stopped so sudenly that you might of thought he was frozen in time. The Golurk pondered if it would help him attain his goal if he helped this Sandslash. Lateo looked down at the smaller creature. Surely it would not take him further away from his goal if he helped this Pokemon. "What do you need?" Lateo's voice was cryptic and hollow. The voice sounded as ancient as the armor it came from. Lateo didn't remember his voice sounding like that.

When the other pokemon stopped, so did Verse. He stared for a moment, then hesitantly said, "Well I've got this problem with a girl who's in a lotta' trouble." He had an odd accent to him. Almost southern, like he was trying to be a cowboy. "She's gone abandoned all her friends and I'm not sure what to do. I need someone to translate for me."

The Golurk looked long and hard at the Sandslash. Lateo was still not positive what the smaller creature needed. He figured he could find out more if he went with this Sandslash. "I can try to help you," said the Golurk, "Where is this girl?" Lateo seriously had some memory problems. He didn't know how he got to this place, he didn't remember how he sounded before, and he didn't remember his other mode of transportation.

Verse would have bit his lip if he had a lip to bite. "Well uh, the thing about that is she's kind of far away. I just need someone who speaks human so I can get a human to help her. Arceus knows she ain't gon' listen to me." He tugged down on the brim of his hat to try and keep it secure in the wind.

Lateo seemed to remember being able to communicate with humans in the past. He didn't know if he could still do that however. "I do not know if I can speak to humans," said Lateo, "But I could try. I would need to find a place with humans though..." Something clicked in the Golurk's mind. He recalled being able to fly. He didn't know how he would accomplish such a feet, but he knew he could fly.

"Yeah I think there's a city to the west," he said with a scratch of his skull, "But its a fair way gone. You can speak human? I mean, I know a few folk can relay their thoughts to humans, but... Well, 'spose it'd be neat trick to have." He extended a claw out to shake. "I'd be real grateful for your help, and I'll pay you back somehow."

Lateo went to offer a massive hand to Verse. Lateo changed his mind and offered a finger instead. The Golurk looked to where he was headed he was sure he was headed North. He turned himself to the slightly to the west. Late knelt down and offered a hand to Verse. "I can get us to that city. Jump on my shoulder," Lateo seemed sure of himself. Lateo was going to fly to that city.

With the handshake complete, the Sandslash was happy to jump on the back of his much larger new friend. He wrapped his claws around Lateo and tried not to dig them in, getting settled and laying flat to not be too much of a burden. "What'd your say your name was, friend?"

"Lateo," said the Golurk, "My name is Lateo." Lateo wasn't sure where he had gotten that name, but that name was his. Lateo's willed himself to fly. His legs rose into his chest and suddenly a burst of flame replaced his legs. Lateo was hovering in place. Then the massive pokemon rose into the air and began flying at a decent speed. Slow enough so that Verse wouldn't fall off. "You have my name, now what is your?" asked Lateo as he soared through the sky.
