A wind swept her hair as Spyri disembarked her new friend's strange, but awesome, vehicle. She grinned at Prince Niku and jerked a thumb over her shoulder at the looming Spaceport. There were guaranteed to be answers inside. In the air above, ships of all kinds arrived and departed. There was a sleek golden one ascending out of high orbit. Looking close she noticed it charge up to warp out. Spyri gave a whoop as it disappeared into thin air.

"I want you to tell me everything about this Pit guy, and why he isn't dead yet,” the half-demon had said. Niku sucked in a breath, preparing to recount the unfortunate tale.

“Emperor Pit, as he call himself, is very powerful. Not just from muscle, but he can control energy so well to blow up whole city blocks. He is strongest combatant I ever met, and yet has even more power through influence and charisma. His armies are vast and technologically advance. It is said that part of reason for his physical abilities are that he is mutant of his own kind. You might say his own parents saw him as science experiment for goal of obtaining more power. I do not know much about his youth beyond that. What is most important to know about him is that he is powerful and very sadistic. Half of my life I was his slave. He invade my planet when I am twelve years old and proceed to exploit our resources and our people for forced labor. He make us do horrible things, help him to subjugate other planets. It is long story, so get comfortable,” Niku began, sitting on his bunk in a cross-legged position.

Spyri drifted in and out of sleep as Niku recounted his unfortunate tale. Her sleep wasn't deep, but her dreams were wild.

In one dream, a parade of Aschen soldiers spilled into Wing City from all angles. Their uniforms created a nauseating pattern as they filed past at an impossible speed, and impossibly fast Spyri followed them. They completely ignored everything and everyone around them, trampling towards Gambit's Bar, and flooring the place with explosives. Wing City city cheered, and Spyri rolled over.

In another dream, a giant spider clamored over the horizon towards a blue horizon. Jets of light raced after the giant spider. There was a zing! and the sky split open, and it began to rain swords, and shields, and knives. In the distance the spider roared, and Spyri turned in her sleep.

The last dream Spyri had proved the hardest to shake. She was walking through a tundra, struggling against winds, when a series of ice rings presented themselves. In the center sat a woman. The ground rumbled and the ice rings cracked apart, rotating around the woman at increasingly rapid speeds. Spyri had been here before. When she checked her hilt, Cha'tlag was gone, and her stomach dropped. Frantically Spyri called out to the woman. It was then the winds of the tundra died, the ice stopped moving, and snow hung in the air- the woman snapped open her eyes. They glowed a deep, emerald green.

With a gasp Spyri sat upright from sleep, clutching Cha'tlag and looking wildly around. Breathing heavy her eyes rested on Niku, then Karma, then the other two ladies, and she was brought back to the present.

A few hours had passed since Spyri's nap had begun and Niku had pretty much finished his story, both he and Karma having switched to a non-Terran language to avoid being eavesdropped upon by the women. For a while, he and Karma had been talking about other things, mostly combat-related, as they waited to arrive at their destination. It was Spyri's sudden awakening that interrupted the conversation entirely, turning both men's attention to her. Niku peeked down at her from the top bunk, one of his ears twitching. He raised a brow. "You have nightmare?" he inquired. "I have nightmare last night too. It was about Aschen lady. I think she is creepy."

Sitting on the top bunk, April had a towel wrapped around her wet hair. "I've heard disturbing things about the Aschen myself, but I can't confirm anything to be true. I hate to be a gossip, but I heard they sometimes do very underhanded things, especially the higher ups," she remarked, using the towel to squeeze moisture out of her tresses.

May had since woken up from her nap and was reading a fashion magazine. She glanced up at her friend. "What's the point in bringing it up if you can't confirm that it's true? I mean... I've heard things too, but I only take them with a grain of salt if there's no real evidence. Rumors are just rumors, as far as I'm concerned," she replied, glancing at her cell. "Hey, guess what! We've only got an hour or two until our arrival. It's about time. I can't wait to hit the mall."

Niku started twiddling his thumbs, wishing the time would go by faster. He swung down from the top bunk and plopped down next to Spyri, adjusting his jumpsuit around the groin for comfort. "Miss April say that Kefalonia is going to be stationed on Planet Canus for at least six hours. I guess this mean we need to find something to do during this time to occupy us. Maybe to go see botanical gardens?"

April eyed Niku from across the room. "If you're not broke, might I suggest that you go clothes shopping? You don't seem to have much of a wardrobe. No offense, of course. Ugh, it just feels like some men have this attitude that all they need is one set of clothes and they wear it nonstop until it's literally no longer wearable. No fashion sense."

"Oh!" May blurted. "On that note, April and I have more than enough fashion sense to go around. We can totally help."

Niku blinked his nictitating membranes at the two women and tilted his head in curiosity. "Shopping?"

April squealed. "Ew! Don't do that with your eyes. It's creepy."

"Let's get him a pair of sunglasses," May whispered up at her friend from the lower bunk.

Spyri's ears reddened as she realized all eyes were on her. It was an uncomfortable feeling, having just risen from a nightmare, but then Niku began to talk about his dreams last night. He didn't have a good one either, and it was about the Aschen, too! Spyri nodded and tried to smile at his comment about her; that she was creepy. The X was creepy.

Then a full conversation began about exactly how, and why, the Aschen were the creepiest.April's hair reminded Spyri that she was about due for a shower, for real. She resisted smelling herself, something normally she would do in front of everyone. There was something about the magazine in May's hands-wait, she was coming to the defense of the Aschen?!

Just as she was about to open her mouth about it, May made the most important announcement. They were almost there! Spyri shook the last of the creepies from her dream and swallowed her retort about the Aschen. She wasn't in the mood to argue, and they weren't on Terra anymore. Niku appeared beside her, and there was a part of her that felt a little self concious. About the smell. What were these feelings?

"Six hours?!" That seemed like no time at all! And weren't they landing in Kanderdam? Spyri scrambled for the brochure of Canus and flicked it open. She hunted for the gardens, which were in a city on the other coast, while April critiqued Niku's fashion. She raised a brow and leaned in to Niku in solidarity, checking for any interesting waypoints between coasts and determining the fastest way to see it all, when the word help floated into her ears. Her eyes snapped up to their bunkmates. The sunglasses comment was not funny!

"Hey! We're fine in our clothes," She frowned, but then thought better as the Aschen flashed across her mind's eye, "...but. Thank you. That would be very kind of you. Er, how do you have anything for...him?" She looked toward Niku, imagining him in clothes like May, hair in a towel like April, and burst into giggles.

"It is supposed to be at least six hours," April clarified. "It could be as long as twenty-four hours depending on the maintenance needs of the ship. I'm sure they'll make the announcement once we land. Not that that's relevant for May and I. We're going to be staying on Canus for a while. This is our final nonstop shopping destination. We'll be here for a week. So where are you all headed next, if I might ask?" She looked from Spyri to Niku and back again. "So what's the deal here? Are you two brother and sister or something?"

May looked at her friend like she was insane. "What kind of a dumb question is that? They're not even the same species."

"Could be adopted!" April retorted.

"Yes!" Niku declared loudly. "I never have brother or sister, but Spyri is like sister for me."

"D'awww," May replied with an almost endearing look on her face. "That's so sweet. So where are you going?"

"You mean after Planet Canus?" Niku inquired.

"Yeah."

A determined look befell Niku's face. "We are on mission to find chi master for special training."

Both women looked at him with confusion. April turned her attention to Spyri. "Um, could you translate that for us?"

"Awww, well.." Spyri flopped back on her bunk. They had taken to each other quick, Prince Niku and Princess Spyri. They had made it this far already. She marveled at their journey when again Cha'tlag hummed at her side. Niku had mentioned Chi, simultaneously a strange figure passed by their door, eating something purple.

"Energy," Spyri auto-replied, hand on her hilt and eyes looking to the door. The figure was gone. Cha'tlag had stopped humming. "Chi is energy, but finding someone who studies it is difficult. Niku here was invited," She smiled and nudged him.

Niku nodded and rose to his feet. With an effortless hop, the feliyan was back up on his own bunk. He adjusted his position to lay on his stomach as he peered down at everyone, flopping his tail around lazily. “Energy of the spirit,” Niku confirmed. “I learn how to control it.”

“Energy of the spirit…” May repeated, squinting her eyes in such a way as if to imply that she was trying to figure out what that phrase meant. “Right. So, um, is it hard?”

Niku’s eyes widened at the inquisition and he nodded again in an exaggerated manner. “Requires great concentration!” he replied emphatically. “I need master to teach me mental discipline. I will put my limits to test and see how far I can go, for the sake of my people.”

May and April gave each other a look. They could hardly understand the concept of discipline, as they both had always lived lives of leisure, never having to train or fight hard for anything. But they had seen such things in movies! April raised a brow. “Your people? Who are they?”

“The feliyans,” Niku clarified. “It is what we call ourselves in our dominant tongue. We are from distant corner of the galaxy, having very little contact with these parts. I cannot speak local languages, but Spyri is helping me. She is acting as guide I desperately need. She show me such things as where to find sleep and she is one to find out about chi master.”

April looked impressed by Spyri. “Aren’t you the resourceful one,” she remarked, glancing down at the weapon that Spyri bore. She pointed to it. “So what’s that all about?”

May flashed a glare at her friend and then turned back to Spyri and Niku. “Sorry about her. She always bombards people with questions,” May said, apologizing on April’s behalf.

“Only people who are interesting!” April countered. “It’s not everyday you meet a girl who obviously knows how to fight. I wish I did. That would be so badass.”

Spyri shrugged, supposing she was quite resourceful, and blushed when the compliments kept coming.

"I'm sure you can find a trainer where we're going," Spyri said to April, "You might even learn a specialty. Chi and energy work aren't the only styles you can learn."

Spyri unhooked Cha'tlag from her belt for a brief moment to show the others.

"This is a rapier. I didn't even know how to ue one of these before she-er, this blade came along. I ah, was kind of a natural I guess given my background with swords. But a Knight, that's who really helped me get good," she finished, hooking Cha'tlag back where she belonged. Spyri pushed down the sad feelings that usually came with talking about Enda and the past.

"Hey,, did anyone see what that guy was eating? Dinner should be here soon, shouldn't it?"
