Winter Sakkio

"Juuuuuust passin' through!"

0 · 1,037 views · located in Fuchsia City

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by NeverEndingFlip

Description

Name: Winter Sakkio

Age: Sixteen

Gender: Male

Weight: 165 lbs

Height: 6'2"

Hair Color: Snow White

Eye Color: Crisp Blue

Skin color: As Caucasian as possible.

Apparel: Often wears a long sleeved white T-shirt with blue jeans with standard shoes, socks, and unmentionables. He tends to take a simplistic approach to style, meaning that's all he wears for the most part. His only accent is a necklace with a blue water drop, signifying a potential preference to Water-Type Pokemon.

Personality: Winter is calm, cool, and collected. While he speaks with directness in battle, he will often talk softly and confidently to other people. His youthful appearance as well as his overall neutral demeanor gives the impression that he's relatively inexperienced. When looking at a person with his blue eyes, most people always get the impression that he's looking through them, like he's in their head somehow viewing their thoughts and planning around them. He's relaxed towards life and tends to enjoy the philosophy of stopping and smelling the roses.

Personality: The Pokemon that forms the closest bond with Winter, Lucky was Winter's starter and together they've been through just about everything on his adventure. Winter and Lucky made the joint decision not to let the Squirtle evolve. Winter made that decision because he loved his starting Pokemon just the way he was and it also brought along a Facade for Lucky to hide behind during battle. Lucky agreed because he didn't want to change into what he believes to be the Brutal Blastoise and also because he enjoys the rides he takes on Winter's back and doesn't want to lose that. Lucky is a very smart Pokemon. He is often independent in a lot of ways and in many ways, the relationship between him and Winter is a mutual partnership in terms of battle. Lucky understands why Winter chooses what he chooses in terms of moves, but if he knows it's a wrong choice, Lucky will adjust on his own. For the most part, Winter is okay with this.

Moveset:
Hydro Pump- (Water-Type) A damage dealing Special Attack. The foe is blasted by a huge volume of water launched under great pressure.
Iron Defense- (Steel-Type) A non-damage dealing Status Move. The user hardens its body’s surface like iron, sharply raising its Defense stat.
Aqua Tail- (Water-Type) A damage dealing Physical Attack. The user attacks by swinging its tail as if it were a vicious wave in a raging storm.
Surf- (Water-Type) A damage dealing Special Attack. It swamps the entire battlefield with a giant wave. It can also be used for crossing water.
Blizzard- (Ice-Type) A damage dealing Special Attack. A howling blizzard is summoned to strike the foe. It may also freeze the target solid.
Brick Break- (Fighting-Type) A damage dealing Physical Attack. The user attacks with tough fists, etc. It can also break any barrier such as Light Screen and Reflect.

Abilities:
Torrent- Powers up Water-type moves in a pinch.
Rain Dish- The PokΓ©mon gradually recovers HP in rain.

Personality: Flow is one of the three Eevees Winter found during his travels and is the second one to evolve once Winter managed to find a Water Stone. In Winter's primary set, he will often switch between Flow and her other two Pokemon brothers. This keeps challenging trainers on their toes as they wonder which two of the three he'll bring out in each round. Flow is very affectionate towards Winter as he saved her and her brothers' lives. Because of this, Return hits very hard. She is often the most affectionate one, so Return hits the hardest with her. Extremely territorial when it comes to Winter, she finds trust issues in those that hurt him and will likely guard any human Winter chooses to let close.

Moveset:
Return- (Normal-Type) A damage dealing Physical Attack. A full-power attack that grows more powerful the more the user likes its Trainer.
Scald- (Water-Type) A damage dealing Special Attack. The user shoots boiling hot water at its target. It may also leave the target with a burn.
Rain Dance- (Water-Type) A non-damage dealing Status Effect. The user summons a heavy rain that falls for five turns, powering up Water-type moves.
Acid Armor- (Ghost-Type) A non-damage dealing Status Effect. The user alters its cellular structure to liquefy itself, sharply raising its Defense stat.
Muddy Water- (Water-Type) A damage dealing Special Attack. The user attacks by shooting muddy water at the opposing team. It may also lower the targets’ accuracy.
Aurora Beam: (Ice-Type) A damage dealing Special Attack. The foe is hit with a rainbow-colored beam. It may also lower the target’s Attack stat.

Abilities:
Water Absorb- Restores HP if hit by a Water-type move.
Hydration- Heals status problems if it is raining.

In Winter's primary set, he will often switch between Hyper and his other two Pokemon siblings. This keeps challenging trainers on their toes as they wonder which two of the three he'll bring out in each round. Hyper is the jumpy one of the three and is often seen running around. He is very affectionate towards Winter for saving his life as well as the lives of his siblings. Because of this, Return hits much harder with him. Hyper may be the most gullible of the three as is too lovingly hyper when around any human. He is notorious for leaping on other trainers and tackling them to the ground.

Moveset:
Future Sight- (Psychic-Type) A damage dealing Special Attack. Two turns after this move is used, the foe is attacked with a hunk of psychic energy.
Morning Sun- (Normal-Type) A non-damage dealing Status Effect. The user restores its own HP. The amount of HP regained varies with the weather.

Dazzling Gleam- (Fairy-Type) A damage dealing Special Attack. The user damages opposing PokΓ©mon by emitting a powerful flash.
Psychic- (Psychic-Type) A damage dealing Special Attack. The foe is hit by a strong telekinetic force. It may also reduce the foe’s Sp. Def stat.

In Winter's primary set, he will often switch between Glist and his other two Pokemon siblings. This keeps challenging trainers on their toes as they wonder which two of the three he'll bring out in each round. Glist is the hardened one of the group as he is only loyal to Winter and Winter alone. He is very affectionate towards his trainer, all thanks to Winter saving his life as well as his siblings'. Because of this, Return is very effective with him. He often has trust issues outside Winter, his Pokemon, and his siblings. Keeping shy when others interact with him, he likes to lay from afar and watch. If Winter gets in trouble, Glist is only one leap away from going against anyone who dare attack him.

Moveset:
Return- (Normal-Type) A damage dealing Physical Attack. A full-power attack that grows more powerful the more the user likes its Trainer.

Personality: Rio is likely the meanest Pokemon on Winter's team. Winter is barely on Rio's good side himself as Rio likes to attack every Pokemon and human with full brutal force. He doesn't hold back and he doesn't give up. His headstrong nature keeps him from really changing much. Rio ended up in Winter's possession as one of the last Pokemon Winter caught in the Kanto region. It had taken the combined power of Flow, Hyper, and Glist to take him down on Mount Silver. To get on his good side, you have to prove your mettle against him.

Moveset:
Earthquake- (Ground-Type) A damage dealing Physical Attack. The user sets off an earthquake that hits all the PokΓ©mon in the battle.
Flamethrower- (Fire-Type) A damage dealing Special Attack. The foe is scorched with an intense blast of fire. The target may also be left with a burn.

Personality: Mane is by definition the odd duck of the bunch when it comes to Winter's team. While his team comprised mostly of Water and Ice Types, Mane was one of the weirdest friends Winter ever made. Winter was given him as a Cyndaquil by his first trainer who didn't want him anymore due to his utter hatred for Pokemon battling, not of Pokemon themselves. Surprisingly, Winter and Mane hit it off very well and he is now one of the regulars on Winter's front six as the plot twist for anyone who thinks they're fighting just a water trainer. Mane is rather lazy and enjoys laying on top of Winter when he sleeps, a habit formed as a Cyndaquil that he never grew out of. He is a fierce fighter, however, and protects Winter like a father protecting his cub. After all, he did take Mane in when no one else would.

Moveset:
Flame Wheel- (Fire-Type) A damage dealing Physical Attack. The user cloaks itself in fire and charges at the foe. It may also leave the target with a burn.
Inferno- (Fire-Type) A damage dealing Special Attack. The user attacks by engulfing the target in an intense fire. It leaves the target with a burn.
Swift- (Normal-Type) A damage dealing Special Attack. Star-shaped rays are shot at the foe. This attack never misses.
Protect- (Normal-Type) A non-damage dealing Status Effect. It enables the user to evade all attacks. Its chance of failing rises if it is used in succession.
Double-Edge- (Normal-Type) A damage dealing Physical Attack. A reckless, life-risking tackle. It also damages the user by a fairly large amount, however.
Solar Beam- (Grass-Type) A damage dealing Special Attack. A two-turn attack. The user gathers light, then blasts a bundled beam on the second turn.

She literally followed them until Winter decided to capture her...just because she wanted to be. Since then, the two have always been together. Sumo's defensive capabilities are mightily impressive despite having nearly zero offensive capabilities upon catching her. But Winter was patient and more than willing to teach her. Now, she is often found as one of the toughest opponents to take down on his team. It does take a lot of food to sustain her, however!

Moveset:
Encore- (Normal-Type) A non-damage dealing Status Effect. The user compels the foe to keep using only the move it last used for three to seven turns.
Power Trick- (Psychic-Type) A non-damage dealing Status Effect. The user employs its psychic power to switch its Attack with its Defense stat.
Bug Bite- (Bug-Type) A damage dealing Physical Attack. The user bites the foe. If the foe is holding a Berry, the user eats it and gains its effect.

Earthquake- (Ground-Type) A damage dealing Physical Attack. The user sets off an earthquake that hits all the PokΓ©mon in the battle.
Toxic- (Poison-Type) A damage dealing Status Effect. A move that leaves the target badly poisoned. Its poison damage worsens every turn.

Personality: Derp is a Pokemon Winter caught just because he looked like fun. A great fighter and an even greater companion, Derp is one of the weakest members of Winter's group of Pokemon simply because he doesn't put him in battle enough. That's fine with the Quagsire, as he's not really up for getting his butt knocked around either. He's more like the mascot for Winter's team and his personality. Don't get him wrong, though. He'll fight if he has to and is still a fairly tough Pokemon to beat for anyone not expecting him. His charming and derpy grin has a way for throwing unsuspecting trainers.

Moveset:
Slam- (Normal-Type) A damage dealing Physical Attack. The foe is slammed with a long tail to inflict damage.
Surf- (Water-Type) A damage dealing Special Attack. It swamps the entire battlefield with a giant wave. It can also be used for crossing water.
Dive- (Water-Type) A damage dealing Physical Attack. A two-turn attack. The user dives underwater on the first turn, then hits on the next turn.

Safeguard- (Normal-Type) A non-damage dealing Status Effect. The user creates a protective field that prevents status problems for five turns.
Yawn- (Normal-Type) A non-damage dealing Status Effect. The user lets loose a huge yawn that lulls the foe into falling asleep on the next turn.

While Winter did technically defeat it in battle, he decided against catching it in fear of upsetting the balance the Legendary birds set across the land of the Kanto/Johto region. He also didn't want to catch a Pokemon who wasn't willing to join him and especially one that he wouldn't be able to strategize with. Instead, they became friends. At the call of a whistle, Articuno typically shows up to aid in the fight. Winter chooses to call him in cases of extreme emergencies that the Freeze Pokemon could help him in.

Moveset:
Hail- (Ice-Type) A damage dealing Status Effect. The user summons a hailstorm lasting five turns. It damages all PokΓ©mon except the Ice type.
Sheer Cold- (Ice-Type) A damage dealing Special Attack. The foe is attacked with a blast of absolute-zero cold. The foe instantly faints if it hits.

Personality: If Rio is the meanest Pokemon on Winter's team, then this Weavile is the second meanest. As the newest and the weakest addition to Winter's team, she doesn't exactly find a lot of love in anywhere except combat. She falls a bit on the mischievous side and enjoys playing cruel pranks on Winter and his team. While the other Pokemon ignore her or shoot daggers in her direction, Winter stares at her with affection, like he sees something more from her than her current behavior lets on. Meanwhile, Rio keeps the Weaville from going too far, typically in a brutal fashion. Weaville is the Pokemon that likes Winter the least, making Frustration one of his more powerful moves. Winter has still not decided a name for this Pokemon.

Moveset:
Icy Wind- (Ice-Type) A damage dealing Special Attack. The user attacks with a gust of chilled air. It also lowers the target’s Speed stat.

History: Winter was born ironically in the summer. Both of his parents are big in their hometown where his dad is an extremely successful scientist and his mom is the local Pokemon expert. They both primarily focus on Water-Types and wish for his son to be a dominant Water-Type master. However, Winter had somewhat higher ambitions. While he never wanted to lose touch with his roots as primarily Water-Type, he wanted to expand into something much more intriguing to him. At the age of ten, he got his starter, a Squirtle he affectionately named Lucky. Together, the ventured out into the world to achieve his ultimate goal, starting small and then aiming higher and higher.

High enough to become the champion, that is.

After a legendary showdown against Lance, the interim champion who took the place of Titania after she stepped down, he took him out using only four Pokemon, earning his place in the Hall of Fame and claiming his throne as the Champion of the Kanto and Johto Region. Since then, the year has passed quite smoothly for him as he was introduced to the Region in a new light. Apart from a spar with a Team Rocket affiliate in his hometown of Celadon City, a near death experience in the Ice Path that helped him befriend a Suicune, his travels through the Johto Region with a foreigner from Terra, and a showdown against an unlikely opponent that garnered another friendship, nothing of massive significance happened to the Region as a whole.

But that didn't mean he had yet to do anything. In a promise to Titania, the former champion, he went up to Mt. Silver and challenged the unshakable robotic figure only named "Blue". The two battled, but in an unfortunate incident, one of Blue's Pokemon disappeared onto the mountain. Stopping the match, Winter offered to help her find it, making an acquaintance out of the machine. He had also helped Touko and Fuchsia City's Gym Leader investigate a mysterious crime scene in which a place only known as The Reginald Estate was vaporized by a mysterious blast.

Since these adventures, Winter has proven himself as a face to the people he now holds a public office for and has earned their trust. He hasn't stepped into the national politics as of yet, however. He hasn't even met face-to-face with Grand Champion Iris yet, even though the door is open for him.

So begins...

Titania got careless during her monologue and let out another frightened yelp as the floor gave way, jumping back just in time! "EEEEEEEK! Ah...ah...fuck...got lost in thought there. Anyway, if they're this powerful, then I don't know if even the both of us working together could take down their operatives."

Winter nodded thoughtfully, "That's not such a bad- WATCH OUT!"

He reached out to try and grab Titania, but was definitely too far out of reach. Luckily, she had the reaction time to jump back before she caved in with the floor. Winter breathed a sigh of relief.

"I guess that warning goes for both of us. We're not as light as a Squirtle." he joked, making levity of the situation. But all concentration went towards the gap in the floor as he spotted something glimmering from the light of the sun peeping through it. The roof was obliterated, after all.

"Huh..." Winter noted, "Titania, come take a look at this."

The Champion crept closer and closer to the large hole in the floor, spreading his weight across the floorboards so that they wouldn't give way under him. He realized then and there that he didn't have a flashlight, but he would at least try to get a better glance with the lighting he had.

"There's something down there, actually. They must have a basement then. Only...why does everything look like it's made of stone?"

From his perspective, he was looking down at a corridor made of cool granite. The inside wasn't lit up, but easily looked like it could've from the metal torch holders that was what actually caught Winter's attention earlier. An idea came to him.

"Hmm..." he thought as he carefully reached for his belt and pulled out the PokeBall he knew contained Mane. A flick of the wrist and he chucked the PokeBall into the cavern, releasing the Typhlosion into the cavern. Mane blinked, glancing arounda t his surroundings in puzzled bewilderment.

"I'm up here, buddy!" the Champion called out to him.

Mane glanced up at the sound of his trainer's voice, giving him a bleary eyed look that said: Why'd you wake me up?

"I know. You were probably sleeping. But I need your help. Along the side walls are some torch holder thingies. Can you go ahead and light the torches that are in them? This way, we can see where you're at."

Mane reared back and unleashed Inferno around the surroundings, lighting all the torches at once. In the same movement, however, the hot blast of air from the attack shook the boards around them, causing the floor Winter was lying on to finally give way.

"WoooOAAAAH!" came Winter's cry as he plummeted downward, into the corridor.

"Damn it, Winter, you're going to get us both killed at this rate!" Titania was never one to watch her words, but the larger hole let her see down as well. "Hey...you're right. I see something down there, too. I guess it's a good thing that the house got blasted away from outside. I don't think the basement could have taken the house coming down on it as you would have with a controlled demolition...here. This ain't my first rodeo going down into a dangerous cavern."

Titania reached into her pack and tossed down one end of an Escape Rope for Winter. "Tie this around your waist. If there's any other nasty surprises waiting down there, I can pull you out. The reason I'm sending you down there is because I don't think this arrangement would work the other way around. Plus you and your PokΓ©mon can get into smaller spaces. You can see things I can't. We're going to get to the bottom of this, in more ways than one, and if we wait for Janine the whole thing's gonna come down on us at this rate."

Man, is the Burned Tower in Johto this dangerous? was Titania's thought as she awaited Winter's response to her suggestion.

A weak reply came from below, "Yeah...I'm alright, too, by the way..."

He coughed as he pushed himself to his feet. Mane came bounding up to the Indigo Champion, eyes fixated on his and checking him over. He was surprisingly alert, mostly out of concern for his trainer.

Winter patted him on his head, "It's alright, dude. I'm alright."

Mane nodded and stepped to the side as Winter grabbed the rope, tying it around his waist just as Titania instructed. Lucky, who had hopped off his shoulder and onto the charred ground above them, was now peeking over the side, curiosity in his stare. "Squir?"

Winter stared up at him, "I'll be alright this time around, buddy. You hang back with Titania and keep her company. Me and Mane will check this out."

The Squirtle nodded and proceeded to where Titania was kneeling down, positioning himself accordingly.

"Alright," Winter cleared his mind and focused on the task at hand. He patted the Typhlosion by his side and gave him a soft smile, "Let's check the place out."

Mane made a noise of acknowledgement and took the lead, Winter following close behind. As they walked, Winter knew that he wasn't in any kind of basement, like he initially thought. The torches that were lit up revealed the surface to be smooth stone, not typical wood or cement. It wasn't a big room that he'd fallen into, but a winding corridor he'd managed to break into the middle of. The pathway went at either an incline or a decline, depending on which way Winter wanted to go on this spiral walkway. And he didn't fall in here to make his way back up to the surface just yet.

"Let's go this way," Winter suggested, pointing down the path that went deeper into the ground.

The two of them began their steady walk. It wasn't long before they started to run out of light and therefore visibility. But that was part of the reason why Winter had Mane out. A quick blast of heat by the Fire-Type lit up the torches as they descended further and further. Winter began to notice the cracks in the stone around them disappearing, the mantles for the torches on the wall growing straighter and straighter. He realized quickly that this was what the corridor was supposed to look like and that the initial decrepit state of the corridor he'd fallen down into was a result of the Master Blaster's enormous beam. He hadn't even explored the upward path yet, but he wasn't sure exactly what was going to be left.

Mane made a noise, breaking Winter's train of thought as he looked up to notice the Typhlosion pointing towards a doorway.

"I see it," the teen acknowledged as he rounded the corner...and froze in his tracks.

In one glance, he not only discovered the purpose of this room, but the purpose of this entire underground structure. In the center of the room were three stone caskets evenly spaced and plain in design apart from a symbol etched into the center (a shield with a blade crossed behind it). However, that was the most plain part of this room. Every other square inch was adorned with drawings and carvings and statues of various meanings and depictions. Winter could only guess this was a mural of some kind, representing all the various feats of the ones who currently occupied these plain boxes. He glanced from left to right, examining the detail in two men wrestling Sharpedos and striking a pose wielding an Aegislash as if it were a sword and shield all the way down to the drawing of a man battling a Giratina. Two statues were in each corner, each depicting women. Wives... the thought clicked in the Indigo Champ's mind.

This was a catacomb.

He stepped into the room, feeling the cool air around him and shivering slightly. Luckily, Mane was there to warm him up and give him the understanding that he wasn't alone. It gave him the nerve necessary to read the plaques on the side of each casket, starting with the one in the middle. It read:

Gregorovich Reginald
"The Lion"
2962-3033
With a great mane to match his title, Gregorovich Reginald honed his power by training with the great bears of Johto. With an appetite for combat as voracious as his appetite for food, he fought until his untimely end in the Shadow Dimension.

"Hmm..." Winter noted, "Must've been a tough dude."

He read the other plaques, one being about Gregorovich's father and one about his uncle. They read similar tales of valor, detailing accomplishments and the like. He smiled at the thought. No wonder this family had this mansion out here, he thought. They seemed to be quite successful. He even felt like he could recall the name from somewhere in the Champion's Database as some of these Reginalds could've held the title of Indigo Champion before him.

"Come on, Mane," he said as he turned around and walked out of the tomb, "Let's let these people rest."

They continued their descent, stumbling upon another room in the process. Unlike the one before it, this one was much more bare, the caskets open as they were unoccupied. He only spotted one plaque plastered on the center tiles. It looked like it wasn't done as it didn't have a description on it, but it did have a name and Date of Birth engraved:

Tarma Reginald
2983-

One foot in the grave? Winter couldn't help but wonder.

Apart from that, nothing else was terribly impressive or interesting and Winter had explored as far down as he could've. He decided to make the reverse trek and see what was in the path above the hole in the ceiling. But he didn't get to explore very far as he walked up to a cave in blocking his path, likely a result of the Master Blaster.

Rats, he thought as he made his way to the hole he'd fallen into and tugged on the Escape Rope around his waist.

"Kay, Titania! I'm ready!"

Hand over hand, keeping tension on the rope as one did when belaying another, Titania pulled Winter out of the underground chambers.

"You were down there a while. I'm guessing that there was more down there at first, but between the blaster and the rope limit we couldn't see everything. Still, I bet there's some really interesting clues down there as to what they were after. Let's retire to the PokΓ©mon Center and discuss this in a saner environment. I'd bring this right to Janine, but those slanted rooms give me vertigo."

Gossip had spread in the morning, as civilians milled along the edge of the police lines. No one knew specifics, but none could mistake the deathly smoke that lingered even with the dying embers. Something terrible had happened.

Janine had only arrived back from visiting her father, and just saw the smoke. Knowing perfectly well where the smoke originated, she double-timed it up the winding road leading up to the Estate. As per her Gym Leader discipline, she didn’t display any evidence of her immense concern. By Arceus, Please let them be alright.

The local law enforcement recognized the ninja girl immediately, and let her pass. β€œHas anyone been found?” She asked, fearing the worst, but managing to hide her fear.

β€œOnly one,” The lieutenant replied, β€œNo signs of anyone else, however.” As Janine crossed the gatehouse threshold, she beheld the carnage that remained.

The Reginald Estate was cleaved in half with a single blast that dug downward into the earth, leaving a tunnel with a roof held together solely by the strength of the ancient tree’s strong root system. Having visited multiple times as Margriet’s guest, she saw the familiar gardens trampled, the immense gates pulverized into splinters, the Catacombs decimated, and the house a shell of its former self. In addition, many of the outer walls were carved out with powerful blasts. No one could possibly live here anymore.

Janine clenched her jaw and fought back the tears of a destroyed piece of memory. She had to be a stoic gym leader, like her father before her. Only one body was found. Margriet’s father had a Palkia. Those could create portals in space in case they needed to escape. There’s no evidence to think they were va… vaporized..

Her aura sense picked up on residual soul radiation. She had felt it before, only on a weaker scale, when β€œGastly” conducted fusion with that Aegislash.

The body- now covered and being brought back to the station- was not yet identified. Some officers nodded respectfully to the Gym Leader as she passed them in the front garden. Soon enough, she stepped over the splintered front doors into what was left of the main foyer. There, she saw a tough-looking and very familiar woman, as well as an albino boy. Despite the familiarity, she couldn’t quite recall the name.

β€œW-What’s the story here?” She asked, her voice shook slightly as she fought to maintain her composure, β€œWas this that…?” She had heard about the Rebellion from Margriet and Radegast, but she couldn’t be sure if it was the same involved. Was this destruction from that Master Blaster thing? β€œHave you found anything?” She changed the subject, concerning herself only with whoever remained.

Winter was the first to turn and see the woman approaching, her magenta cape billowing behind her sleek form. She wore mostly black with a few hints of purple around her waist and ankles and she had gray socks but no shoes. Her purple hair was tied behind her head tightly in a functional manner that signified she didn't want it getting in her way. And he could tell that her eyes were hardened, steely, ready to fight if she had to. But he wouldn't expect anything less from the Fuchsia Gym Leader.

He was polite as he extended his hand, "Good morning, Janine. We're trying to piece it together, too. Although I'm pretty sure we both have a good hunch." He turned to Titania with that, giving her a nod before continuing conversation with Janine, "I don't think we formally met like this. It was a couple years ago when I actually fought you at your gym. I'm Winter Sakkio, now the Indigo Champion. And this is Titania, the predecessor to the title."

With introductions out of the way, the hard part for Winter was figuring out where to start explaining this whole thing. He didn't know too much about it, himself. Mostly from what he gathered about Burgh's telegram earlier this year. He decided that Titania probably knew more about it and could probably explain it better than he could.

"Well, I don't know much about what happened her," he admitted to her, "I was just called onto the scene. But I know enough to know that this is likely the work of some machine that's being called the 'Master Blaster'. Titania can tell you more about it. Alll I've done is explore the underground area a bit. Oh, by the way, before I forget," He glanced back at Titania, "It looks like some kind of catacombs down there. Where they kept their deceased relatives and things like that. A lot of them are destroyed, but it goes as far back at...some guy named Gregorovich Reginald."

His soft, blue gaze rested on Janine, "Do you know more about the people who lived here? Maybe something that could tell us why they were attacked?"

As Winter introduced himself, Janine nodded. Her eyes lit up with recognition. β€œI do remember! You fought very well. Your Pokemon had great strength and wits. Hope they still do,” She winked, adding with a slightly cryptic tone, β€œIt looks like we’ll need them…”

She then listened intently as their briefing, what Titania was after, what Winter was after. After hearing the familiar name of Margriet’s grandfather, the ninja gym leader chimed in. β€œGregorovich is recent,” Janine corrected as she more closely examined the blaster-bored tunnel, β€œBy Arceus, most of it’s been…” She brought a hand up to move her scarf over her quivering lips. β€œAll that history…”

β€œI’m friends with the Reginald family. They told me about about that β€œMaster Blaster” you mentioned. It’s weilded by this group of hateful Pokemon called the Psychic Rebellion. The Reginalds-” She paused as she stepped into what was left of the living room, with only one crumbling wall remaining on the side, β€œThey told me about them- how they crossed paths in a bad way. The Reginalds sent people around to spread the word, get people aware to help fight… but I never thought they’d be…” She trailed off as she spotted some remnants- a broken picture frame. It was of an old, yet impressive calligraphy art assignment. Janine had given it to Margriet a long time ago.

Gastly’s alright- he left already… but Margriet… What happened to them? She grit her teeth, but reclaimed the picture nonetheless.

β€œThis doesn’t make sense, though,” She noted aloud, β€œLast I heard, the Reginalds had some real heavy hitters and genius trainers on their side. They were ready. How could…” Tears began to well up in her eyes, but she wiped them away. β€œHow could it turn out this one-sided?” The residual, yet familiar aura radiating from the area as well. It felt immensely more potent than the tiny embers of power she had felt while training Radegast. Could it be…?

β€œI just hope they’re alright,” She finally concluded.

"Wait. If the Reginalds are this badass, then I have the same question. How could they be wiped out just like that on their own turf? If the Psychic Rebellion really is this strong, there's no way a frontal assault is going to work. It'll be like...like..."

Titania's knees buckled and she hit the floor hard. "Like what happened on Terra...I...I need to be alone for a while. Gonna book a room here or something. I...I just can't deal with all this right now..." She took off down the corridor, sobbing heavily.

"Titania!" Winter called after her, but she didn't look back. He sighed and rubbed his chin thoughtfully, "Sorry bout that. Titania...hasn't been the same since recent events. I helped her resolve some issues, but she's evidently got something else bugging her."

The Champion decided that all the Iron Maiden would need right now was time to sort this out. She would recover and be back into the action soon. He felt it. But even so, he felt residual guilt over his decision to not at least run over to her and help her figure things out. But he could tell by the way she reacted that this was probably out of his depth. That was serious...too serious for him to handle.

Yeah, and huge death beams that killed Pokemon weren't?

He laughed inwardly at the realization, but still pressed.

"So a group of hateful Pokemon..." he held on to that bit of information as another memory entered his mind, "I wonder if it's the same one I ran into a few months back. They nearly swiped one of my friends while I was distracted. Had it not been for that weird Chimchar I ran into, they might have. Hmm..." he seemed to be deep in thought for a second more before his eyes lifted from the massive hole in the ground to Janine's hardened gaze.

"Mind taking a trip with me to a forest outside Lavender Town? I think I remember a place where we might be able to find more answers."

Winter nodded in understanding, "Fair enough. I wish you luck in you Gym battles. And I'll come back to you with anything I find!" He gave a smile and a wave as he watched her walk towards the town.

So Janine's out... he thought as he glanced back towards the decimated manor behind him, Maybe I should talk to Titania...

He didn't have a problem fighting the Psychic Rebellion last time, decimating just about their entire army. But unlike the previous time, he wouldn't have that Chimchar to help him. And he didn't want to call upon Arty unless it was an absolute emergency. But just in case they were inhabiting the area he had in mind, he wanted some form of extra help.

So he doubled back and rounded a corner and found Titania, slumped against one of the cracked walls, staring down at the ground, tears streaked across her cheeks. Her eyes were puffy and red and her hair was slightly disheveled, as if she had been clutching it tightly. Winter knew he had to approach cautiously and with a friendly air.

"Hey, you alright?" Winter asked as he crouched next to her, looking at her defensive posture.

"Squir?" Lucky had been spectating up until then, but now placed himself directly in Titania's line of sight. The Squirtle blinked and cocked his head slightly, as if wondering if he could help in any way.

"I...I'm okay. I'm okay now. Seeing all that destruction...it reminded me of when I dealt with something like this back on Terra. They didn't stop at defeating my Pokemon...I actually ran here to Ruula to get away and get stronger for when they did catch up to me. I have no idea if these guys are connected or not, but if they are, we are royally screwed."

Titania's knees were still a little wobbly as she got up at Winter's insistence, and sniffled one more time. "All right. Would it be okay if I asked you to lead the way? I may be brave enough to go with you, but I don't think I could take point after what you just saw. Might have another panic attack. In any case, we have to assume that these guys are well organized, well equipped, and have a number of tactics and strategies pre-planned in case of attack. They were probably planning the assault for months to come down in a single decisive strike like this. Any less and the Reginalds would have put up enough resistance for them to resort to siege tactics, which would have taken long enough for Janine to get involved and set up a flanking maneuver."

Titania started hastily scribbling out shapes and arrows in a notebook she kept in her breast pocket. A square for the Reginald mansion, X's and O's for the attackers and defenders, her mind whirling like a crankshaft. "Obviously, they had overwhelming force on their side, but this attack was also well planned. This means that they must have a number of well-fortified hideouts scattered across the region, and possibly even the world, in case someone tries to take the fight to them. This also means that they must have a regular exchange of supplies between the bases. We find the supply lines, we find the bases, we find the commanders in the bases, we work our way up the food chain. It won't be easy, but this is what worked for me before."

Having had the opportunity to grapple with her inner demons, Titania beamed, the first time in a long time she had ever managed to crack a smile. Maybe now people would believe her when she said she was strong enough to at least contend for a title, to be able to come up with plans like this so quickly. So what if she never was really able to come through in the clutch? Raw strength was always a viable strategy, plus now that she had Winter on her side, it was like a weight was lifted from her shoulders and she could actually function.

Winter agreed, "Of course I don't mind! I was planning on doing that anyway."

Lucky, noticing that she was starting to feel better, scampered to Winter's side and scaled his back, resting on his shoulder. Winter took little notice of this as he took in the elaborate planning Titania was laying out for them. Watching her mind work like that...it was awesome. Every interaction Winter had with the Iron Maiden previously, she hardly lived up to the title, taking a shell of her former self. Whatever had happened to her on Terra, it had a lasting and overwhelming effect over her. But for the first time, it was like seeing the former Champion in her true form...in her prime. This was the Champion Winter wanted to fight to claim his title.

Maybe someday...

"That makes sense..." Winter nodded thoughtfully, "Being able to bring together an army in two different parts of the world...I can see how your solution would work there. It's like every little region has a pocket of Psychic Rebellion dudes that form together and become bigger and stronger when they need to. In any case, you're right/ We need to start with the root and work our way up to the top of the tree. And I've already got a place in mind."

He pulled out a PokeBall and cast out Rio, who grunted upon arrival. He turned to face Winter with a stare that said Where to next? Or am I actually gonna fight something for once?

Winter chuckled, "I know you wanna fight, buddy. This next stop, we might have to. So be prepped for it!"

The Aerodactyl beat it's chest as it crouched lower to allow Winter and Titania onto his back.

"It's not too far from here," Winter explained as he hopped on Rio and held a hand out for Titania to grab, "Just outside Lavender Town. Though I have to remember where the clearing is..."

Winter sat in the Champion's chamber, more befuddled than ever before.

His brow was furrowed as he thought, trying to call upon all the wisdom he had gained in his lifetime. He was sixteen, but he certainly had been through a lot. Having started his Pokemon journey six years ago, his run-ins with baddies had seemed countless. A few Team Rocket associates, like everyone else, but also the usual challenges from other trainers, the bullies that he ran into for the first couple years until the gap between him and them was overwhelmingly vast, the folks in that lab. Even his modern day adventures since donning the title had been numerous and impressive: a challenge by the strange dark-type user, the fight against that shady gang of Pokemon outside Lavender Town, and his greatest accomplishment yet, dealing with the same foe that had struck down Titania so many years ago and coming to a peaceful resolution. In his two year tenure as Champion, he had long lived up to...maybe even surpassed his predecessor.

But this was something different entirely.

"Squir squir?" his greatest companion, Lucky, tugged on his leg. Maybe take a break? his eyes seemed to say.

Winter sighed as he lowered the note in his hand slightly, "I know buddy. But I've got to try and figure this out. I have a feeling the next few days are going to be rough and I need to be as prepared as I can be."

He patted the Squirtle on the head as he waddled off. He smiled at his friend before he glanced back towards the note...the note sent to him in secret. And when he'd discovered it sitting in his chair, he knew immediately who it belonged to, given that he was the only one who wrote notes.

Winter Sakkio,

I'm afraid things may be falling into disarray as I am writing you this letter. Given the circumstances, I want to think that things will be alright. But with each passing moment, it is looking less and less like that outcome will be ours. At least for the time being.

If the news hasn't reach you by now, then be warned. A powerful adversary has taken the throne and is now assumed the title of Grand Champion. As a single Pokemon, she has enough power to wipe our Unovan Champion's entire team with apparent ease. She is ruthless, cruel, and will stop at nothing to obtain absolute control over anything and everything. She has already dealt with her trainer in bloody fashion and I fear her rampage is merely beginning.

Winter, you must resist her advances at every turn you get. Do not trust her words or her intentions. She only wants the world in her control. Find The Iron Maiden and gather your Elite Four together as well as the strongest trainers you can find and prepare for an assault. You must do this without raising the suspicions of the queen and the assets she controls. Trust that other regions will be doing the same. You will know when it is time for us all to meet.

Do not reply to this letter. Do not try to reach out to me. Making contact would being unwanted attention to me and my plans. We are possibly the last spark the planet has. I hope you will help us save it.
Sincerely,
--Burgh--

P.S. : Do shred this letter.

The Indigo Champion sighed as he finally started ripping apart the note, tearing it into bits. Of course the news had already reached him, like it had to everyone. He had just gotten done watching Queen Melaine's speech and had the fight playing in the background. Every time he turned to look, he tried to analyze what she was doing, trying to spot some hole in her armor...some weakness to exploit. But so far, all he saw were advantages. He knew Status-effects were almost worthless, given the Magic Bounce he'd spotted earlier. But apart from the instant KO strikes, he didn't have an answer...yet.

He'd keep trying.

In the meantime, his instructions had already been passed out. The Elite Four were out, gathering the strongest trainers they'd fought against. The only one he had yet to make contact with was Titania. In his mind, he was debating her usability in this conflict. While he had trust the Iron Maiden was more than capable in this fight, there was still that question of her being mentally compromised by her shortcomings. The feeling hadn't been there initially during his starstruck moments with the former Champion, but it had built over time. And so remained the lingering thought pestering the back of his head...

If he called her, which Titania was he going to get?

Standing up, he walked the paper shreds over to the wastebasket by his desk and dumped them all in. Then, he glanced at his PokeDex and started scrolling through the contacts list, trying to find another person he could potentially get in touch with. Regardless of his thoughts or concerns, he may have to get her involved, he thought. This threat may be bigger than any concerns he may have over the health and well being of Titania Brightsmith.

Not terribly far behind the two ladies, a third individual entered the room. This person had a more plain and rugged look about him. He wore a white windbreaker with blue stripes on the sleeves and a white T-shirt underneath. His jeans were a faded blue and his sneakers were white, clean, and unscuffed. His bright white hair was wavy and pulled to the left of his pasty face. His eyes shone brilliantly, a crystal blue that seemed to sparkle. He had a kind and gentle smile on his face as he examined the room, taking in the four occupants. On his back, peering out from behind his head was a Squirtle, who was also taking in the room nervously. The boy took notice and looked up at his friend.

"Hehey, what's wrong, buddy?" he asked, nudging him a little, "You're usually not the shy one."

The Squirtle pointed towards the four elite trainers in the room. "Squir!" he protested.

"They're allies," he reassured him, "They're not like that mean man that popped in and gave us the letter. They're just like you and me...Champions."

While he felt a little bit better saying that out loud, a part of him was just as nervous as his best friend was. Sure, he could carry his own weight in comparison to them, but they were still acting Champions...trainers in their prime, all with incredulous feats of their own to obtain the positions they had. Not to mention he was definitely the youngest in the room and probably held his position the least amount of time. And he was about to meet all of them for the first time.

He figured he'd do better starting things off and introducing himself rather than being prompted, so he went for it. "Morning!" he said, chipper as ever, "I'm Winter Sakkio, the Indigo League Champ! I figure we're all here for the same reason?"

He stuck a hand in his windbreaker pocket and when he pulled it out, there was a letter in his grasp. From a surface standpoint, it looked similar to that of Rachel's and Eddy's envelopes, further proving his point.

"And this is Lucky," he added, pointing at the Squirtle climbing onto his head. The Squirtle smiled hesitantly and politely, giving a friendly wave to the others in the room.

"I'd like to correct your statement there. I'm not a Champion. I didn't take the title. You don't take what you don't earn. Anyway, so you're Winter? Heard a lot about you. Being the Champ for two regions must be rough. Name's James by the way. And hey there, Lucky! No need to be frightened, nobody here bites."

"My name is Shirona. It is a pleasure. And greetings, Lucky. If you have feelings of anxiety due to fear, I can tell you the people present won't hurt you or Winter. So please, be more at ease."

The blue Gardevoir smiled at the Squirtle as she spoke to it, hoping it would ease up a little.

"All right. Cynthia called ahead to tell me that she was taking a challenger, so let's just start the meeting now. As some of you are aware, there's a Shadow Mega Diancie by the name of Melaine going around." At this, Touko queued up some of the files Rachel had shown her for the rest of the class to ponder over. "These files, provided to us by a SAM employee on condition of anonymity, prove that Orre's Lovrina had a hand in her creation, along with the late Dr. Nendal Lacroix. From personal experience, we do not yet know the extent of her powers. It takes attacks of extraordinary power that are also effective against her rock and fairy typing to even leave a scratch, and to do more damage than she passively heals is yet another great hurdle. I'm sure you've all seen me prove that. Therefore, as much as it pains me to say it, none of us have the power to take her head on. We have to find out what's juicing her up. More troubling still, she seems to be recruiting Trainers to her cause in preparation for all out war on the United PokΓ©mon League, even going so far as to name four extraordinarily strong personal guardians. Whether this is out of sheer practicality or out of mocking us, I can't say."

Touko looked around the room as hard copies were distributed. "Anyone have anything to add? One thing I can tell you now, we are NOT about to just give up. We have the numbers and the brains to come up with an answer for anything they throw at us. We proved it in Kalos three millennia ago. We proved it in the war with the Ranger Nation. And we're going to prove it again here."

Rachel stared blankly at the document that was distributed to her. With a deadpan smile, she looked aside and nodded.
I don't think we have anything to add. This isn't a math class. I don't think you're a teacher either. For math. If you are, then you're a lousy teacher, Touko. These sheets don't have addition expressions on them.

Pass! Pass!

She seemed to miss most of Touko's more rousing parts of her speech. Eddy didn't.
Are you certain we can't just fight her? As a group, it might be possible.

"That's what I figured as well, Eddy, when I watched her fight. It would seem a regular one on one would be a death wish, so to speak. Teaming up on her might do the trick. However, that declaration worries me. You people will likely have to stay in your region as it says she'll move to conquer all of them at what is assumed the same time. The guy we confiscated this information from told us about certain files and locations. However, if everybody is stuck in place, investigations won't proceed. My suggestion is that if anybody has connections to exceptional trainers, send them off in your stead if you cannot make it."

"James and I will stay in Unova and help out there. In Log 15 there supposedly exists details about multiple locations. We will handle the ones in Unova."

"And I can get a hold of Dawn and drop her some info on locations if any appear in Sinnoh. I'll also send her a warning about the situation as well. Sandra, a friend of mine, will get similar info to assist in Alola! Well, if I am permitted to give this information away, that is."

"Another thing was that we were told that while every log is important, number six, eighteen and forty-four are most important. So I would ask that everybody would please read those thoroughly. Like Miss Emiko said, the goal here is not to give up!"

James began to throw some thoughts around. Perhaps he could find and inform Crimson of this too? What was it that he said to do? Show something to a Pelipper? He'll ask Shirona later, she'll know. It would be a big help if he could gather some wilds to assist the cause. Or maybe he knows a couple good trainers? Whatever. First things first, get the info and then go from there.

As the room started to devolve into a flurry of suggestions and accusations, Touko was just about to punch somebody when Cynthia arrived fashionably late.

"Sorry for the wait, I was getting my...invitation." As the oldest of the Champions, she certainly knew how to work a room, and definitely commanded the respect of the Brains with a single dramatic swish of her fur-trimmed long coat. All the young brunette could do was slam the table in frustration.

"Touko. Cool it. I heard everything. Your friend is correct. We need to reach out to as many strong Trainers as we can and bring them to our side. I already floated the idea of Dawn being a special agent and she refused me, but maybe if she heard it from a friend and not a superior...yes, then it might work. But we must make ourselves visible and lead from the front if we're going to have any hope of stopping this. Also don't forget that one of your Shitennou is here," Cynthia added, gesturing to Caitlin and her valet Darach.

Then Cynthia did something most unusual...she made a point of turning to James. "I remember you. I had our battle in the bag when you resorted to the one tactic you had left. You are not only strong, but resourceful, kind, and brave. If you put your mind to it, you could be a very effective leader in your own right. Let Thorton and the eggheads come up with the plans. Just like a battle is won by PokΓ©mon, a war is won by the efforts of the soldiers who seize their objectives...but they need a strong and capable hand to guide them. Miss Touko, if you could go over the plans you seized from the facility one more time? I might also have a few ideas for propaganda campaigns for TV and print. This is where your people might come in handy, Eddy."

At this point, Touko had regained self-control. "Right. Let's go over this one more time. These notes confirm that Lovrina is still on the loose and no doubt worked closely with Nendal in creating Melaine." A few pages had her signature pink cursive all over it when she put them up on the projection screen. "Therefore, we must make the Orre representative aware of this delicate situation in addition to mobilizing our forces." A few more clicks forward. "Here we see notes into exactly how Melaine was created by forcing Carbink to mutate. Thorton, this is the province of eggheads like you, but I advise keeping a barf bag handy. However, Lovrina may have also given us the key to undoing this. She notes the existence of a process called purification that can re-open a PokΓ©mon's heart, as well as notes on the ecology of Diancie. The upshot is that we need to be looking for what are called Shadow Obelisks. These are what are juicing Melaine up to the levels such that she wiped the floor with me twice. No doubt these will be heavily defended. But if we can break through her troops and destroy these things, we can weaken her enough that she can finally be defeated head-on."

"Shirona, you got all that?"

"I do. I'll retell it later so you can have a copy for your own in the bag."

"Thanks. And by the way..."

James would turn to face Cynthia.

"Pokemon do not win the battle on their own. The hearts of them and their trainer are entwined, one cannot do without the other. Battle is won by teamwork, not solitude, Cynthia. You of all people should know that. And for all intents and purposes, Cynthia, you won that fight. You outclassed me. I only won because of a lucky break. As for getting her to be an agent... I don't think she'll take that, even from me. What she will take is me telling her where to be and what to do in this case. From there it's up to her discretion."

" Same with Sandra. She would likely not take to working under somebody and would rather be on her own."

"Quite. And while I'm on that subject... Everyone here has titles and seats of power. I'm just some random Joe off the street. So I feel like I gotta ask permission to share this info with Dawn and Sandra. So, can I?"

Despite literally being in a room with the strongest trainers around, James didn't really lose any composure. Taking a page from Sandra's book, he's seeing them more as people than titles. It kind of helps with the shock of it all, normalizing everybody.

"James..."

The voice of Winter cut into the meeting for the first time, having been silent while everyone talked around him. He had his copy of the folder open on the table, indicating that he had been reading the document inside the entire time. His blue gaze was piercing, but his smile was small and genuine.

"You don't need to ask for permission on this kind of stuff. You're here and you're helping. That's the only thing that matters right now. If you believe that this Dawn and Sandra need to know this information, then they need to know. Simple as that."

He then looked down at the folder, pointing to one of the passages in there, "So from what I'm gathering, these Obelisks are pretty big and probably very easy to find. The issue is strength and durability, but that won't matter if we bring enough firepower to each one. At the very least, it sounds like it'd be easier fighting these things than Melaine. The question is more where would they be and where should we begin looking?" He paused a moment to think, his finger hovering over the picture of the giant purple rock. He tapped the page as an epiphany came to him.

"We only have a few days, right? So if we send a message to every news outlet and every form of media to every person on Ruula telling them to keep an eye out for these Obelisks...we'd probably find them in no time. And from there, we gather the strongest trainers we can find and bulldoze these things. If enough are destroyed before she starts her invasion, we could bring her down to a manageable level and then try and take her down. Together." He concluded his thought, looking up at everybody in the room.

"So...thoughts?"

"Winter's right. James, me inviting you here means you're the equal of any of us," Touko added. "Just...be very careful about this information being overheard and getting into the wrong hands. Speaking of getting stuff to the news, I think Eddy's connections in the industry will be very influential in that regard. Rachel, if you could get us some time in the PR Studio to make some PSAs? We need some proper commercial spots to really do this right, though, and that's going to involve some money."

Cynthia wanted to talk about something else, though. "Before we do that, I think we have a bigger problem. When Melaine sets out to invade, where will she land, and how will we ride out to meet her? Winter, I think your Lieutenant Surge had a brilliant stratagem once involving massive use of the move Soak and then blasting the enemy with his signature high voltage assault. Once this meeting is dismissed, I want you all to look for seaports in your home regions and brace them against a potential invading force. Make sure to control the skies as well, and let's get to work breeding strong Chinchou that can make unique use of this water and electricity combination."

Eddy shook her head.
It isn't that simple for me to do. My Producer and my Sponsors don't just do something because a big shot says so. They also don't really have ties to news like you think. You'll have to negotiate with them if you want anything, and they can be strict. My Producer is already somewhat cross with me for skipping a shoot to come here and address this issue, though he can't contest me on that matter. The business I'm in deals a lot with favors. I can probably work something out for us, but it won't be cheap.

Rachel shrugged.
I can't get you time in the PR Studio. There is no time in the PR Studio to get. If time was there to get, I think I'd have gotten it by now. Plus, the PR Studio is pretty well organized. If there was time to get there, it would also be easy to find. I could use the time too, after all, so, it would benefit me if I could also find time located there in the PR Studio. Besides, last I checked, PSAs didn't cost time to make anyway. They don't cost anything at all. Besides maybe your soul. Well, you can go anytime you want, since it's free to do so. I don't understand why you're asking me for permission.
