Description

©Guy Kremer
Full Name: Lisa Kessler
Internet/General Alias: Wisp
Age: 23
Race: Human
Significant Relations: None.

Height: 5' 5"
Weight: 123 lbs
Hair Colour: Blonde
Eye Colour: Blue
Physical Description: When you think of a hacker, you generally picture a nerdy, spotty, glasses-wearing introvert sitting at a computer surrounded by old food and pizza boxes. Two of these things are true about Lisa, and that's that she never clears away her trash, and that she dislikes the company of other humans; physically she looks more the part of a biker than a computer whizz. With carefully styled (though not every day), skilfully dyed medium length blonde hair, a slim figure and a sense of fashion, Lisa passes as an ordinary member of society, and attracts her fair share of interested men. That she systematically rejects, of course.

Personality: An introvert and generally apathetic individual, Lisa is capable of social interaction but prefers not to do it on a grand scale. Being introverted does not mean she hates company, but it does mean that she is just as happy on her own, and does hate the company of a lot of people at once. Independent, feminist, vengeful and snappy.

Skills and Talents:
  • Practised in the use of small firearms.
  • Capable driver, most significantly on a bike.
  • Capable hand to hand fighter.
  • Impressive reflexes.
  • Impossibly skilled hacker and general tech expert.

Equipment:
  • Two 9mm pistols
  • Taser
  • Lockpicks
  • 'Skeleton Key' - kept on a USB memory stick, this programme, coded by Lisa, is capable of breaking into almost any security system and giving her total control of a computer.
  • MacBook
  • Windows running Laptop (she doesn't carry both at the same time, obviously)
  • iPhone 3GS (enhanced to be able to tap into secure networks, track bugs, listen into radio transmissions, tap phonecalls and a variety of other functions)
  • iPad
  • Tracker bugs.
  • A debit card connecting to a suspiciously full bank account. She didn't steal it. Honest...

So begins...

A young blonde woman slipped into the bar in silence, making only a cursory glance about the room before making a beeline for a booth and table. The slight figure of the girl sat herself on one of the sofa-like seats, sliding the laptop bag she carried over her lap and flipping it open. She produced a sleek white MacBook, which she set on the table, and hit the power button.

Lisa - or 'Wisp' - lifted her head to gain eye contact with one of the bar staff, nodding to them to beckon them over. She ordered a coffee and a muffin. Whilst her order was worked on, Lisa went back to her laptop, pulling up several documents and programmes and starting to tap away at high speed.

A pair of icy blue eyes settled on Jakob as he approached. Lisa's mind immediately went to the taser concealed on the inside of her jacket as the strange man moved toward her. She didn't recognise him at all. Did he recognise her? She never failed to remember faces before. Maybe he didn't know her, and was just spontaneously approaching. Odd, but not impossible.

Was it possible that someone could have tracked her down over the internet? No, she didn't leave a trail. She was too experienced for that. A slew of possibilities and scenarios went through Lisa's mind before Jakob had even reached the table. When he did reach her, Lisa stared him down, unwelcoming and suspicious. She did not speak.

Just a social call then. He didn't know her, she didn't know him. Harmless enough to speak to him -- unless he was lying. That was possible, it was something that should be kept in mind. It would be more suspicious to refuse, however, and so Lisa nodded curtly at the man's request.

"Music? Interesting. I use mine for work." She only spared Jakob a few words before returning her attention to the computer -- not out of rudeness (or at least not intentional); simply due to a low understanding of etiquette. After a few moments her coffee and muffin arrived. Lisa paid without comment, nodding her thanks.

After another few moments her eyes lifted to Jakob again. "Well... do you do that DJing professionally?" There, an attempt at conversation. She could talk when she felt like it. It wasn't like she was doing anything important.

A hobbyist. Lisa wasn't a big music fan herself. She listened to music on the radio, and bought the odd CD, but she wouldn't be considered a 'fan' of anything. She didn't have favourite bands or genres; the music she did own, she barely had any idea who the artists were. A short period of continued tapping on her keyboard, starting a file transfer.

"Oh. What do you do, then?" Lisa asked. "For work." she added after a moment, as if to clarify.

Problem solving. Heh. Suitably obscure. Combined with the standout trench coat and the notable bulges about the size of a holster within, that probably meant a bounty hunter, or an assassin, or something similar.

"Oh. That's nice. It doesn't sound like it pays much." The file transfer was done, and so Lisa cut off, clicking about a few times to start the mirror install.

Lisa didn't respond for a good ten seconds, focusing on her computer screen. Code and commands flashed across a console window. Her eyes flicked up again once things were set in motion. "I suppose that is a benefit."

Lisa's own drink sat going cold, barely touched. She took a sip of it as if just remembering that it was there, and a bite of the muffin. "Too much money. Not many people are familiar with such a concept..." she commented.

Weapon. Lisa froze as Jakob reached for the rifle, hand darting into her jacket to close around the taser. When it became apparent he had no plans to use the weapon however, she calmly removed her hand and returned to typing as if nothing had happened. The install and setup were complete. She needed to inform the client.

Whilst Jakob went about his business with the rifle, Lisa was typing up an email.

Wisp looked up at Jakob with a neutral expression. "Chased? No. People have to know who you are to chase you." Lisa tapped a few more keys on the MacBook before hitting the shut down. The laptop faded to black with a quiet 'ding'!

"I wouldn't be very good at what I did if people were chasing me." she noted. "But I apologise. I have to go. I have an appointment to get to." Sliding her laptop back into the bag, Lisa stood. "Nice speaking to you." she nodded to Jakob in farewell, though she remained for a few moments to allow him parting words.

"Like I said." Lisa adjusted her bag. "They don't know about me to chase me."

With that, Lisa left. She was relatively pleased with herself. An entire conversation without revealing her name, or anything much about herself -- all without lying once.

Wisp was sat in the corner of the nigh-on-empty bar, plugged into her MacBook. Not literally, but she was rather isolated off from the rest of the world, headphones in her ears and her eyes locked onto the screen of the laptop. Lisa's fingers danced across the keyboard at high speeds, one hand occasionally going to the USB mouse to click something or drag something.

A cold cup of coffee and a muffin with a single bite out of it sat next to her, obviously long forgotten.

Wisp continued her type. Not sure where to go from here. Too tired to elaborate.

Wisp focused intently on her laptop screen, scrolling and clicking, typing and tapping. With a final tap of enter, she set the code she had written into motion, and ran a program.

...
......

***************

Snapping to, as if out of a daydream, Lisa looked up from the screen. Things were set in motion, so she had a wait. She took a sip of her coffee, frowning as she noticed that it was stone cold, and looked around the bar. There were a few people here now. Nobody seemed to be in a very good temperament.

Wisp looked up at Mei for a few moments, staring at her with icy blue eyes without response. After this pause, during which Lisa surveyed her - mixed race, late teens, seemingly ordinary - she spoke. "This building is called Gambit's Bar. Geographically it is located within Wing City, which in itself is somewhat ambiguous in its geographical placement. It is possible to reach this bar from numerous locations worldwide, often at random. Equally, when you leave, it will either return you to your place or origin, or admit you to the Wing City proper depending on your intent. It is possible to calibrate it to emerge at a specific location, but the capability to do so is beyond most."

Lisa looked away and returned to her computer for a few moments, before looking back. "Is that all?"

Wisp reached out and grabbed Mei's arm, pulling her down into the seat opposite. "Sit." she instructed. "Keep your head down, and don't interfere. People here can look after themselves. People here die daily. Getting involved gets you dead."

Lisa seemed entirely apathetic about the conflict, but she was reassured by the presence of her own gun inside her jacket. "Remain calm and do not panic. Ignore it. What was your question?"

"This is a place for people who are not normal. Incidentally, the toilet is that way." Lisa lifted a hand to point to a nearby door, thankfully located where Mei would not have to pass either of the unfortunate incidents. "In case you need it."

A few more keys were tapped. "If you keep your head down then people will probably leave you alone..." Or not, Lisa noted as Maelik approached. Immediately, the laptop lid was snapped shut and slid down into her bag, ready for the girl to make a break for the door if necessary. Apart from that, she completely ignored the demon, continuing to speak to Mei.

"Do not provoke him, do not display horror. Speak when necessary, avoid prolonged interaction." she hissed under her breath.

"Most humans are averse to observing the mutilation of living or once living beings in an obvious manner, such as your eating of that body." Lisa noted.

"Your point being?" Lisa glanced up at Maelik. "I was answering your question as to why the girl was afraid and shaking. You attempt to justify by citing an event that happened outside of this area with individuals who are not present here. Your logic is flawed at best."

"The murder of a man is no more morally acceptable than that of a woman or child. Murder is murder. You attempted to justify the fact that your eating habits frightened the girl by citing the fact that some unrelated event had caused you to be irritated; a fact which was also unrelated. You now seem to imply that I am being unreasonable. I am merely stating logical facts."

Lisa shook her head as Maelik departed. "Well, indeed."

"I am not asking you." Lisa stated simply. "You would not be required to ease her if you did not flaunt your nature in a manner you can easily predict will horrify and frighten humans. Were you to restrain your activity in a manner that would not cause discomfort in those around you, a simple matter of consideration, then you might find yourself not having to kill people, or explain yourself so much."

Lisa looked up at Kyne briefly, but ignored him. Until she was directly addressed, she felt no need to reply.
