[hr]* Family names are often considered a person's true name and are rarely used or shared with others.
** Time for the Ba-Shu holds little meaning. There is a wheel of the year that is followed with proscribed rituals and celebrations, but dates and years are not often followed too closely. They are not illiterate, but there is no accurate measure of time to compare to their home plane vs that of humanity. It can be assumed that Xiaolian's birthdate is possibly closer to Summer of 934 AD, than July 1900.
***Village of "Lunghwa", Zhúlín Province, Heaven's Gate. The bamboo forest at the base of the world tree that guarded the gates of heaven, hell, and man. There were several large villages here, populated by families of the Ba-Shu that were in service to heaven.

"Five minutes longer than your boyfriend." She grinned to the other. "I can probably hold it longer, but it's only meant for five minutes." Worse came to worse, she'd recast it. The woman pulled on a pair of gloves and pulled evidence bags out of her workbag, and began a simply cross hatched pattern, searching for anything that glowed and bagging it, dropped a marker wherever one was. The MCU markers were a different color than the local LEOs to set them apart.

"I'm seeing fragments in the blood." She said simply. "Not much magic to be had...except for the bullet." She didn't touched that, having not made it there yet. Still, this was a fairly clean scene, given the circumstances. Blood everywhere of course, but that was expected. She had no doubt that there were bits of his brain somewhere in this mess.

Molly was glad she was a cop and not a cleaner. This would be a bitch to clean up.

Xiaolian watch Coofer leave and frowned, most LEO's were pretty hardened to this sort of thing, but something had spooked the man. "Hey! At least I get some unlike someone I know..." Xiaolian said turning to Molly, making an mildly offended face. "And only five minutes? That sounds like your a cheap date." She countered as she knelt down to pull out a camera from her own bag. "Don't forget to get a blood sample for the lab."

Once the film got back, they could likely get a better idea of trajectory on the shot and how close the attacker had been to the victim. It was a mess, but no worse than some of the previous cases; at least blood hadn't been used to make rudimentary markings on the wall. "Hey Bronson, didn't you used to hunt?" Xiaolian asked as she came over to get a shot of the bullet fragments in the blood. "Because that looks an awful lot like one of the rounds popular with hunters."

"Darling, you and I both know, men just don't do it for me." she joked and took a blood sample, knowing it was needed. The woman looked over the fragments and frowned. "It does look pretty standard hunter fare for weres." She admitted, looking the runes over. "Runes aren't my specialty, so we'll have to look those up, but I'm willing to bet it's gilded in silver." Most were hunting bullets were.

She grinned to her partner, more amused than not. "And to clarify, I hunted demons, not weres. If I wouldn't get into trouble for it, I would still hunt demons. They give the best fights." and by a quirk of her possession, Molly was more than a little demon now herself, magically at least. She had the same desire for fighting at least, and it was a lifetime of training and practice that kept those instincts under control.

"Yeah yeah, and we both know you'll sleep with any have decent looking woman too." Xiaolian replied waving Molly's remarks off. "So then.. who do we know that's hunted weres?" The petite woman asked looking over at her partner. Taking a shot of the bullet and it's fragments with the camera, she made sure to zoom in on the butt end of the casing. "Because rune workings aren't standard even in our rounds." She commented thoughtfully, trying to make a mental list of what she knew and who she knew. "Only guy I know that did this was Fisher, but he's dead now." Xiaolian said nonchalantly. Loosing officers in their line of work was normal enough, and some were lost quicker than others. It was a profession that would easily chew you up and spit you out given half a chance.

"Oh fuck off Bronson! You'd get in a fight with a stump if allowed!" Xiaolian added glaring at the other for interrupting her train of thought. "Now let's get this shit bagged and tagged, just because the Warden's on leave doesn't mean we get to goof off."

"I will not. I have some standards." Though she did have more one night stands than she did relationships. "And probably, but for the record, the stump would lose." She grinned and continued bagging and tagging the evidence, thinking over who to talk to about were hunters. She didn't know too many herself, but she was sure she could dig up someone.

"I'll ask around for a were hunter, get their point of view on it. Someone in the office is bound to have some experience." She said simply, looking the runs over. She almost missed Fisher. If nothing else, he had been interesting to deal with. "That man as obsessed with his guns and runes." She muttered, more amused than not. Fisher has been a special kind of officer. No one had been too surprised when he died.

"Yeah he was, and you remember the time he showed up with a long sword? I think the Warden was going to kill him." Xiaolian remarked with a stifled giggle. Fisher had been so terrible at his job it was funny to most of the crew in their particular branch office. "I swear that woman is wound so damn tight.." She then mumbled shaking her head. Xiaolian wasn't a social climber and had no desire to really move past her current position.

"But yeah.. see if you can't find someone's ear to bend back at HQ." Xiaolian said as she reached out to pick up the bullet and put it into a evidence bag. "I'm surprised the scene is still intact.. I mean so many guys trampling over it."

A choice.

( ooc: Use this to continue searching the crime scene)

The wind picked up and whistled through the cracked glass , from the direction the victim was looking when he died. Should one of the detectives glance out the window, the only thing insight would be a parking structure and the surrounding city scape.

The Bullet fragment Xialian picked up would feel warm , boarder line hot in her hand as the few fragments of visible scrips flared to a dull silver glow in the presence of a magical being, even as mild as her psychic abilities. Upon closer inspection of some of the more intact fragments , one might notice that the ruins them selves where dull while the rest of the silver glowed, as if the runes them selves rejected the spell.

OR

( occ: use this if you're done with the crime scene and wish to move on.)

Xialians communication device buzzed after a long while (say 20 mins or so) with the sound of a file sent , it was the recording of the dispatch request and a text from Coofer.

" Warehouse belongs to Kara Hamonds, as does the "Halloween" decor on the second floor. My guys are outside but no one is gonna go up there again tonight."

Molly couldn't help but laugh at the memory. "The warden had told him he'd need something other than a gun, and he decided on a sword he could barely swing!" The planeswalker had found that hilarious. Still, she looked around the scene and sighed, then went through the backpack. "Looks like he went shopping earlier. Weird items though. Know of any spell that uses lemons, salt, and fire?" She looked it over. "Because he has a store receipt, and those items here. Though the fire is in the form of matches, of course." She looked through it some more, and pulled out the note pad, slowly flipping though the note pad, hoping that something might be written inside it. You never knew.

Sometimes evidence was that easy. Mostly, it wasn't. Either way, they had research to do for this case already.

In a more squared handwriting there were several names of various spells written in list form , each one crossed out with an increasing stress put on the writing device. Other notes that were written were anything from a to do list, too a few journal entries about being homeless. There were a couple names ( feel free to insert 3 random names of intrest who will be former pack members at least 1 female)

Xiaolian frowned as she stuffed the fragments into a small manila envelope. "Well salt is used for purification, and fire can be also... lemons though, I don't know." She replied to Molly. "That's kind of an odd shopping list though." Xiaolian added coming over to take a look at the notebook also. "Oh hey look at this..." She said pointing a purple gloved to the spells in the notebook. "All these are pretty common ones too." Xiaolian added trying to remember what happened to be making the rounds. Some spells popped up in cycles in the community, as if they had a mind of their own, and others came and went.

"What do you think he was trying to do?" She asked Molly as they flipped through the pages before landing on the names. "Oh oh! Jackpot!" Xiaolian said pointing excitedly at the names in the book. That would definitely enable them to at least cross reference their database of offenders and registered unseen.

"More than one type of handwriting." She noted and looked it over. "And it looks like the spells they were trying weren't what they were looking for." Interesting. She examined it a moment longer and sighed. "We'll look these people up in the office." She said and then looked over the bullet again. It would likely be best if Xiao handled the bullets, she decided. The others nullification ability would make it safer.

"Maybe he was searching for a cure? I'll have a better idea when I look up the spells." She didn't usually use spells, not as most did. Still, she examined the backpack again, and flipped through the cookbook. "Think he was trying to alter some potion?" She asked, more amused than not. The A=H was a curious thing. "We should check out the bookstore he got it from. There's a receipt for that. When's it dated?"

"Maybe... but who knows." Xiaolian said shaking her head. "But I can tell you those spells are likely to just be fluff, you know the kind you pay a few bucks for and then they don't do shit?" She said having never really seen anyone seriously use such basic things to any effect. It didn't matter where you were, there were always people willing to charge money for complete and total garbage; and Xiaolian briefly wondered if this was one of those times.

"Receipt.. isn't dated, looks like it's only half printed. Ran out of ink I guess." Xiaolian answered with a slight shrug as she picked up the piece of paper to look at it, while one hand still held the fragments in their envelope. "Hey Bronson.. you remember anything about that ballistics class? Is there a reason these bullets are supposed to act like this? Didn't your spell dissipate already?" The petite woman asked the other as she held up the envelope, glowing slightly, and rather warm to the touch so far.

Being a null didn't always mean you didn't notice things, it just meant that there was a 50/50 chance it would affect you.

"The spell dissipated." Molly agreed and looked the bullets over. "The silver is acting up, and not the runes." She noted, uncertain what that could mean. "Spelled silver, maybe?" That was a possibility. "Something resistant to other magic being performed on it, perhaps." she wasn't sure. "It could be reacting to our presence." That was a distinct possibility and she well knew it. she had seen things do so. Still, there didn't seem to be much more to learn of the scene here. "Let's let the locals in for clean up and check out the rest of the building. Maybe there's a reason he decided to sleep in this storage unit complex in particular."

Other than the no doubt vaguely reasonable cost, and no doubt lax security.

"Maybe." Xiaolian replied as equally uncertain as Molly. She hadn't ever seen this reaction before, but that didn't mean it couldn't happen. Each officer saw different things during the span of their career, and Xiaolian hadn't seen much; mostly just cut and dry cases. "We'll let the lab analyze it." She added as she tucked the fragments and their envelope into a larger bag intended for the lab at headquarters.

"Yeah, I'm pretty much done here. Tell what's his face he can bring his guys back in for anything they need." Xiaolian told Molly before putting away her camera and other equipment.

Molly snorted and pulled out her radio. "Officer Coofer, we're done with the scene now. You can send your people back in." They may catch something the two women missed after all. Still, she smiled, more amused than not. "We're planning on sweeping the rest of the property. Any hotspots we should check out?" He had called them in to begin with. He may have an idea of what was what. She released the button so she could hear the response and stretched.

"Gruesome scene. Kind of glad the Warden wasn't here. Even she was shaken by that mess the council put on." She didn't see why the witnesses needed to be there. They had already given their statements, did they need further questioned about that nightmare? Molly wasn't a fan of the council to begin with though.

Xiaolian sighed as she hit the end button on her phone and looked at Laura. "Just you and me. Bronson can't be arsed to answer her phone and I can't get a hold of the Warden either." She said to the other woman who looked just a tiny bit past nervous and heading towards terrified. "Relax, it's likely just some stupid kid. Besides which, you said you know this place anyway." Xiaolian added patting the woman's shoulder reassuringly. "I might.. but that doesn't mean I want to be here. They tend to look at you kind of weird if your.. well legal." Laura answered crossing her arms over her chest and hugging herself tight. Normally this was way outside the scope of what she would do, sure she'd answer a few questions about the magical community, and sometimes if the officer was particularly nice be a bit more specific about who would know more than her. But, Laura like Brandon had always felt uncomfortable at times with her connections to MCU, though she also understood that it could be a lot worse, and silently thanked whatever gods there were for her blessings.

"Look, we'll go see what all the fuss was about, easy in, easy out." Xiaolian explained before ducking down a dark, wet, and potentially rat infested tunnel. Laura just shuddered, swallowed hard, and prepared to follow the officer down into the market. She'd need her to guide her through the complex maze of booths and stalls that occupied the market... and their owners who could be politely described as cranky even on the best of days.

"Wait! Xiao!" Laura shouted as she ran after the other, careful not to slip on the slick concrete. "I'm sorry.. this is just all a bit above me. I didn't ever want to do this... I mean work for MCU and all." She confessed as she caught up with the other who was using her phone for a flash light in the dark tunnel. "Hey, it's okay. It takes all kinds." Xiaolian replied with a smile that looked ghastly in the pale light of her phone's light. "Thanks Lieutenant." Laura replied breathing a little easier now with that confession off her chest. However, she did wonder what had caused Catherine not to respond to calls; Molly she could sort of understand, the other hand always been flighty and scatterbrained, but Catherine? She had always been solidly reliable and dependable.

"Yeah sure." Xiaolian commented as they neared the exit.

Molly had woken by this point and was sulking fiercely, glaring darkly at the edge of the circle where her badge sat. Her finger tips were red and hurt, and she hadn't been able to break apart the circle from the inside. Her shirt didn't quite hit the point of dress on her, and the top of the shorts she had been wearing had been rolled multiple times in an attempt to keep them from falling down. It almost worked.

The twelve year old reached out to the edge of the circle again and yelped, finger tips smoking. She stood abruptly and stomped her foot, glaring at the edge. "I hurt all over, and I look ridiculous. Let me out, you stupid circle, so I can go to work and get fixed!" She hated the spell on her already. She was a little kid again, with the voice and physique to match and it was not her idea of a fun time. The planeswalker had tried just walking out of the circle, only to discover that the circle was warded against that. With a huff, she kicked at the edge, only for her bare foot, her shoes and socks having been too large to even bother with, to get just as blistered as he hand had been.

"Ugh. I'm going to have to be rescued again." That was her least favorite thing ever, and at least partially why she had retreated to the fae realm and the academy so long. At least there she was hardly ever in need of rescuing. "Let me out. Please? Come on!" She crossed her arms and glared at the edge, only to catch site of Xiaolian and Laura from the corner of her eyes. The preteen whirled around, and pulled the shorts up again, the collar of her shirt falling off her shoulder again.

"Ah, it's too late. Boyuan, please tell me you and Laura can break this stupid circle. I want to be turned back to normal, ASAP."

Xiaolian and Laura stopped abruptly as they both heard their names being called, but the voice wasn't a familiar one. Soon enough they were standing in front of Molly and the circle etched in the ground with her in it's middle.

"Well that's pretty obviously our problem." Xiaolian commented hands on her hips as she tilted her head trying to wrap her mind around this thing scrawled in the dirt. "It's a cuneiform circle Lieutenant... uncommon.. but some still use them." Laura said equally confused as to what it was doing there. She knew the mechanics of magic forwards and backwards, upside down and inside out, but some things were simply beyond her power to accomplish.

"Wait.. who are you and how do you know who we are?" Xiaolian asked squinting at the girl standing inside the circle. She didn't need glasses, but it might be a good idea to get her eyes checked after this because the girl looked an awful lot like Molly. "Uhm... Xiaolian.." Laura said pointing to the items at the edge of the circle. "In a minute Laura." The older officer said waving the other woman off thinking it would just be another whining excuse about one thing or the other.

"I don't even want to know about the backlash this had to have to...well do this to me." She grumbled and tried to smug the circle again. With a huff she crossed her arms, trying to look like she wasn't a little kid. It was not very successful. "Laura, I need you to find a stick, and break the circle with it." She thought it over and glared at the markings of the circle. She had had time to decipher what she could of them, but it hadn't been much. Not many used cuneiform circles, after all, and it had nothing to do with biology, so she hadn't paid too much attention to bothering to remember anything about them. "It can probably be safely broken from the outside, from what I know, but definitely not from the inside." And that was her main issue.

The girl looked to Xiaolian and sighed. "Hey Xiao, is it legal for a child who wasn't a child like, thirty minutes ago, to still hold a job. Because I am not resigning from my post." She refused. She had revenge on the mind for this, and if she started being treated like a child, she'd never get it. The preteen fae huffed and poked at the edge of the circle with her bare foot. "I definitely refuse, if that's an option." she liked being a cop.

"Oh christ... not again. How in the hell do you keep getting yourself into these messes Bronson?" Xiaolian asked making a sudden realization. "I don't what the backlash did, but it's just me and Laura here. We couldn't get a hold of the Warden or you earlier for that matter." She stated with some amount of concern as she directed Laura to go retrieve something to break the circle with. "Seriously? Are you not thinking Molly? You're asking Laura to break this? She's at at risk for the backlash too you know." Xiaolian scolded the other, reminding the now child sized Sergeant that not all ideas were good ideas.

"As for legality and possiblity... I don't know. It's a grey area." Xiaolian said as she took the large branch from Laura, one that had washed down from the creek in the last heavy rain storm. "Now stand still.. or whatever while I try to get you out of here." She added as she swung the heavy branch down and through the dirt.
