Personality

Xyphos is a bit blunt when it comes to others. He's lived his entire life as someone ready to battle when needed, and it shows in the fact that he does what he feels needs to be done, and that's about it. He's no good for anything terribly fancy, and actually prefers to be around people who know how to use a weapon rather than someone who needs help. He's the kind of guy who thinks that the weak get left behind unless they suck it up and deal with it, but there is a soft side to him. Although the soft side almost never shows, there are times when he does get emotional, especially when talking about his village.

Equipment

Image
Xyphos, being a Blademaster, is able to wield most any edged weapon proficiently, though he prefers one-handed swords over anything else. On average, he carries a sword on each hip, as well as a two-handed sword upon his back. He wears a shirt of super-fine chainmail, with baggy cloth beneath it. His pants are tucked into a pair of armored boots, and his gloves cover the ends of his sleeves, Upon his back in a cloak of fur, though from what animal could be anyone's guess.

He has acquired a new blade, one that has caused his inner being to awaken and take over. It is a blade of ruby mixed with citrine, with small splashes of obsidian within. The blade is heavily enchanted with the element of fire and is also ensorceled so that it will not break under any but the most devastating circumstances. He retains his previous sword, a simple, two-handed steel blade, but the chances of it being used much are slimming rapidly.

History

Talk to him, and you might find out. It might be unlikely that he'll open up, but give it a try, why don't you.

So begins...

He followed close behind, speaking on the way out.

"I assure you, if I'd wanted to eat you, I would've done so inside. Much more imposing that way." As they stepped outside, the air was brisk against his skin. He knew the chilling sensation would last very long, but it still helped to remind him that he was not immune to nature, and that he never would be.

He stepped out onto the street, giving himself plenty of room before he closed his eyes. His form began to shift and reshape, the air around him shimmering like a mirage in the desert. After only a second or two, the change was complete and, instead of a six foot tall human, there stood a twelve foot high, twenty-eight foot long golden-red dragon with eyes of molten gold.

He craned his neck, the early morning sunlight scattering off his scales as he found a shaft of it peeking between two buildings.

He lowered his massive head from the sunlight so that it hung beside Ezrael. He spoke, but the manner of which he did so was more of a one-way telepathy that passed through the air like sound. It was still his voice that was heard, but instead of being heard from any one point in the area around them, it would be heard clearly in the man's mind.

He grinned, his upper lip curling back to reveal hundreds of bone-white daggers.

He sniffed the air a couple of times, letting his tongue flick out once for a better reading of those same scents, before grumbling and rolling his head back around the other way.

He chuckled, a deep grating sound in his throat, and looked around. A sudden urge to simply destroy a straight path through the city struck him, but he didn't need hoards of aircraft and soldiers hunting him for the next few months. He'd be far better off just flying out, despite the human laws that they tried to govern the air with.

He chuckled and laid his head down on a nearby car, caving in the roof. He didn't mind it, but when the alarm began to go off, he snapped his jaws tight onto it, crushing the electronics and killing the noise like he would kill a deer.

A quick memory flashed before Xyphos' eyes.

A battlefield. Bodies strewn about, both dragon and human. From below rose a cloud of arrows, barbed and nasty, while from above dove a hundred dragons and more.

He growled, and the sound was richly toned. He forget, for a second, that he was not actually at the battle his racial memories portrayed, but that he was lying on the pavement in Wing City. He quickly regained his senses, however, and spoke once more.

He grinned again, revealing his teeth for just a moment. He wondered what human tasted like, though he doubted he'd find out.

He yawned, his great maw opening wide enough for a full grown man to stand upright within, and then closed it with a sudden snap. He was tired, but he had things he had to do. Things he couldn't forget to do, lest he...

What exactly were the consequences of him not keeping his word? That he would feel bad? That he would lose his income? He was a dragon, and no longer needed either. And yet there was a part of him that wouldn't let go of his honor. Being a fighter had ingrained that honor so deeply within him that to impugn it would be to remove it from his personality completely.

He smiled at the thought and heaved his bulk from the ground, flaring his wings as he went. And with that, he leaped into the blue sky, snapping his wings down and taking off. In just a few moments he was fast winging his way out of the city, causing alarms to go off and guns to be aimed, though never fired.

The door to the bar opened beneath Torin and in stepped a larger man, tan of skin and wearing what appeared to be very fine and supple chainmail. His first sight, however, upon entering the bar, was that of a troll bellowing. He immediately drew his blade, a crystalline expanse of ruby, citrine, and obsidian, before wading forward slowly.

"What brings you to the watering hole that is Gambit's, beast?" he asked, his voice smooth and relaxed, though his body was slowly tensing and shifting to a position that would allow him to begin fighting if he needed to.

The man watched the troll for a moment while it charged, chuckling. He could just faintly hear the sizzling of it's acidic drool against the background noise, and it only made his smile bigger.

"Oh good. Something tougher than a human." His voice, despite the imminent danger, remained calm.

In the last moments before he would be hit, Xyphos stepped to the side and slashed down into the troll's path, his blades glinting in the light, a ruddy glow encasing the beautiful weapon. It wasn't a particularly heavy swing, just one to either trip up the troll, or force it off balance.

Being a blademaster did have it's perks.

Xyphos rolled his shoulders and sheathed his blade as Torin's magic removed the troll from the bar. It was an impressive feat, hurling a troll so large through the window, but he was sure there was more in the wiry man than he'd already seen.

"Don't worry about it too much," he offered. "I enjoy a good brawl every so often, though my hands are quite as tough as my blades."

He offered his hand, the palm showing callouses from years of sword-training and menial labor. he wasn't wearing his gloves today, like her normally would, and as such, the leathery skin of his hands was easily visible, though it almost appeared to have scales hidden beneath the flesh, if one looked closely enough.

"Th'name's Xyphos. You've got some pretty strong magic in your blood, I can see." He looked at the man with the staff as he walked over and smiled, figuring the guy to be another mage, though not a very powerful, as his movements seemed a bit awkward and hesitant, rather than the confident strut most magicians walked with.

The red-haired man stepped back a bit, giving Kyle what room he might need. The boy spoke of wielding a blade, but he hardly seemed fit to use one in combat. However, the arts of magic didn't seem to far from his grasp, physically, at least. He turned and looked at the girl who had entered behind him and slipped to the side, away from the fighting. She was interesting, having mentioned that she couldn't see, as well as having two mechanical assistants hovering beside her.

"It's not a lack of self-preservation. More of...wanting to feel more alive. Nothing gets blood pumping like a fight, and nothing else lets off as much frustration, either. Though I can't say I'm one to go around beating up people just to get my anger out. If I wanted to do that, I'd simply go and torch down a few trees." He chuckled and then pulled out his blade to look at it; a habit he'd begun to form over the few weeks he'd owned the blade.

It truly was remarkable, crafted by unknown means and razor-sharp. He'd found, through testing it against stones, that the blade wouldn't dull and although it didn't flex as much as steel, it had yet to show any signs of breaking into pieces. He rotated it slightly, causing flecks of molten-orange light to glitter about as the light struck its edge.

Xyphos was about to reply to the girl before him, something witty and simple to be sure, when the building shook and several windows shattered. He looked around for the source, only to hear the primal roar of one of his kin outside. He forgot to excuse himself as he dashed out the door and looked up, seeing the dragon perched atop the building like it were a stony outcrop.

"Oh? And what have we here? A bit lost, aren't you? I would think you'd be of in the wilds, hoarding gold like the rest of the dragons around here." It was banter, and reasonably playful banter at that, but he was still confused about why another true dragon had shown up in Wing City. It wasn't a terribly common occurrence.

The man shrugged, not sure what to say. He hadn't really felt much of a need to destroy the city, it was the place he currently lived in anyway, but to have another of his kin actively searching for him caught him off guard.

"Why were you searching for me? I'm not really all that special, to the best of my knowledge. You aren't looking for a fight, are you?" His skin shifted slightly, and the scales hidden beneath it rose tot he surface, covering him in a natural suit of golden-orange scales. He wondered what it would be like to fight one of his, having not had the chance yet in his lifetime.

Xyphos hummed softly, trying to figure out what to do. He'd not thought that he smelled any different from those he lived by, but it was apparent that he did. He'd have to find some way of hiding that, he figured. it wouldn't do to have dragons flocking about trying to find out who he was. Figuring that this conversation might better be explained in his more natural form, Xyphos stepped out into the street and changed.

The transformation took only a few moments, but it was dramatic. The air around him shimmered, as if above an intense flame, while his body elongated and thickened. His scales became larger and thicker, coating him in armor more protective than steel, but light as leather. When next he spoke, it was in the tongue of dragons, sounding much like a series of roars to any who hadn't learned it themselves.

Well, you've found me then. To be quite honest though, I didn't know you were about. I only know of one other dragon around, but she's a member of the racer's circuit, so she isn't much of a threat to anyone, despite the gifts nature has awarded to our kind."

As the inferno bathed him with its warmth, Xyphos shuffled his wings a bit and felt for the fires of his own belly. He was unsure of himself, having only been a dragon for a few weeks, and without knowing any other personally during that time, but he spoke his name anyways, figuring it would be as proper as any.

"And I am Xyphos. I'm curious though. Why did your fires not harm me? I was under the impression that, though are scale protect us from dragonfire for a time, it will still harm us." He crawled his way atop one of the other buildings, his form moving with uncanny grace for it's size. He knew that humans thought of dragons as clumsy, murderous beasts, but he' realized that they tended to be the opposite, unless angered beyond belief.

"I know such things all too well," he replied. "And I myself need to be going anyways. I haven't eaten recently, and I feel that I shouldn't hunt within a dozen leagues of here. Perhaps I shall see you some other time, and in a more...suitable location."

With that, he leaped off the building, gouging its roof with his hind talons. he flapped twice to keep from falling to the ground, and in just a few moments, he was flying strong and steady. Within minutes, he would be nothing more than a speck in the sky.

Beside the roaring fireplace within the bar was curled a golden-red dragon. Although it wasn't doing much more than napping, it still exuded an aura of power and awe, as any such creature of myth and lore ought to do. As it's massive chest expanded and contracted with it's breaths, hot gusts of air would roll out from him, heating the bar as easily as the fire behind him and the heating systems already built into the building.

A sudden gleam of golden light flashed across the bar as Xyphos opened one great eye. He sniffed once and tasted the tang of perhaps half a dozen new scents. A low grumbling sound rolled from his chest as he lifted his massive head and yawned. Dagger-like teeth flashed in the light for a moment before hi jaws clamped shut once more and he took another bleary look around.

Where had these people come from?

Xyphos, still muddled in his thoughts and not wary, was shifted through space and time somewhat easily, considering his bulk. Over the span of no more than a few seconds, he left the floor of Gambit's and opened his eyes to find himself laying in a most desolate area.

He wasn't the only one, however, seeing Kyle tumble across the ground nearby. he stood quickly, the last dregs of sleep rushing from his mind as a sudden anger welled up within him. He was about to attack the man for bringing him, when two others appeared before him.

The great golden-red dragon watched cautiously as the rock crumbled away. He remained silent, though he was filled to the brim with questions. Though he also retained his desire to simply burn away all before him in great waves of dragonfire, he held himself in check. There was no telling what this thing could do especially if it could move them all here at once.

He noticed the minotaur charging, but was taken aback slightly as the golden-hued being backhanded the beast with unthinking ease. His reptilian eyes narrowed and his lips raised slightly, revealing his fangs. He ought to just fly away then and there, but he held a respect for Shakarr that went beyond anything rational.
