Description

History

Once long ago, on a world inhabited by a multitude of life forms, there rose a race of beings of such enormous strength and intelligence, that they soon became the indisputable rulers of their world. These were the first dragons. Massive, strong, capable of flight, armor scaled, long lived and intelligent, these beings were individuals and very proud of that fact. They rarely gathered together for any reason, but when they did the whole of their world shook from their might. They ruled undisputed for eons, until a lesser, mortal, species began to assault them. Unimaginably, these lesser beings somehow managed to kill the dragons that they went after.

This instigated wrath and rage in the species, who assaulted the mortal creatures that dared oppose them. Unfortunately this lesser species was incredibly propagative, no matter how many they killed, their numbers would always surge back to strength in a matter of decades.

The dragons found the idea of constantly having to raze this lesser species down to managable numbers tiresome, and so they gathered together to come with another solution. They pooled their resources and worked to create a rift that would allow them to slip into an alternate phase of reality. In this alternate plane they were able to live without worry or concern, and so they lived and grew and learned.

Centuries past, and now the dragons, having lived and grown, forming their own civilization and system of government, have set off from their alternate phase of reality and reconquered their world from the mortals. In so doing they were able to take the knowled of the species they conquered, and have since grown stronger and more wise.

Culture

The Collective of dragons began as a group of eight hundred dragons who slipped into an alternate plane of reality in order to live in peace. In this alternate plane their numbers grew, as did their knowledge. They formed into a civilization, developed a culture, and generally followed the usual pattern of development that any species follows.

Dragons, being what they are, are not much for arts of drawing, crafting, and many of the other trades other species commonly employ. They do however have a fondness for music, and DragonSong is a thoroughly famous and unique artform.

The Culture of dragons is intricate and conveluted. Unlike other species, dragons do not pray to any god, though they do have a form of religion. Rather than worshipping a diety, they pay homage to the memory of their ancestors, whom they believe live eternally through their memories. When a dragon dies, their name, past, and everything about them is written into a song so that they will be forever remembered by their ken.

The Collective is not made purely of dragons either. Their are multiple "kithids" or species of draconic peoples. The higher classes, the "dragon" kithids as they are commonly known to the lesser informed, those clans that are of the six limbed fire breathing type, are called the Aryannic, they consist of the Tamia, Escion, and Baruut Kithids. Beside them are the Cantur Kithid, a species similiar in form to the mythological centaur, with a four legged lower torso, and a more humanoid upper body.
The Cantur are incapable of flight, do not have the organ necessary for "fire" breathing, and have lesser brainmass than the Aryannic Kithids. They tend to be more deft handed and agile, and are more open and warm in personality, leading them to fill roles of engineering, merchantry, farming, and other such preferences.
Following them are the Agnur Kithid, a bipedal subspecies with greater musclemass and bone density. They are physically stronger than Cantur, but similarly lack flight, intelligence, and firepower. They fill roles of warriors, workers, and laborers.
The Alunga Kithid are small, rarely reaching more than a meter in length, and barely more than 50 pounds in weight. They serve as messengers, scouts, spies, and other tasks suited to such small life forms. Like Aryannic Draconnids they have wings and can fly, however they lack the organ for dragon breathing, and instead of scales they have a slick hide of skin, and secret an oil to keep the skin from drying out.
Marnol Kithids are close to the Agnur Kithid, but smaller. They are nearly humanoid, bipedal draconids. They have scales covering the chest, forearms, and ankles, as well as horns, wings, and tails. They are not capable of dragonbreath, however they are usually taught how to manipulate energy forms. They serve similiar roles to the Cantur and the Agnur, but in positions that neither the Cantur or Agnur can. The Cantur, with their physical bodies, are incapable of fitting into smaller spaces, and lack the dextrosity necessary to perform more delicate tasks. Likewise the Agnur are large and physically impressive, but they lack the finesse necessary to use ranged weapons and siege weaponry. In these tasks, the Marnol perform.
Tantoren's are four legged, ponderous beasts, used as beasts of burden and workhorses. They can weigh upwards of seven tons, through usually only grow to be about seven to eight meters long, and five high. They're cared for by Cantur and Marnol kithids, though they are more than capable of defending themselves when necessary, using their bulk and thick armor plated hide.

Tamia Dragons are recongnized for their ellegant forms, their sleek and lean bodies, and their smaller size. They are most often more intelligent and wiser than other kithids, and tend less towards conflict than to wards philosophy and study. Scientists, alchemists, and other such persuits are their primary passions, though as Aryannic, they're free to any occupation they choose.

Escion Dragons are noble warriors and defenders. They serve a police force, as military commanders, and fulfill the roles necessary for expansion and conquering of worlds for colonization. They're stouter than Tamia Dragons, who's hide is smooth and unscaled. All Escion dragons have a crown of horns, protuding from the temples and the cheekbones. They're necks are short and stout, and their mouths are snubbed, like a bull shark. They're more heavily muscled and tend to grow spines or blades from the ends of their wing bones.

Baruut Dragons are short, stout, and heavily muscled. They're hard working and capable of enduring even the most punishing of environments without even a blink. The Escion dragons are responsible for conquering worlds, the Baruut are tasked with terraforming and colonizing them. The Baruut set their underlings to the tasks of breaking rock and stone to the caverns and shapes necessary for Dragon cities to be built within.

Military

The Military of the Collective is maintained solely by the Escion Kithid, with tithes of supplies and resources procured by the other two kithids. Their military is primarily used for conquering of worlds to be colonized by the collective, and over the millenia of their existence, the collective has developed a well refined process for this process.

It begins with a single vessel, called an Akorn, landing upon a planets surface with a heavy impact intended to destroy and displace any immediate resistance. This vessel contains within it a standing force of fifty thousand Agnur Warriors of various disciplines, as well as a nursery containing up to seven thousand Agnur Eggs, in the event of strong enemy resistence leading to an extended siege (extended meaning to dragons as lasting over the course of several centuries.) The vessel also contains warfactories built for constructing engines of war, as well as three seperate Labs, one for the studying of plantlife, one for the studying of geology, and another for the studying of native civilizations. Finally, the vessel is also equipped with a unique transportation device called the Alfn Faen (Draconic for "quick path"). This device connects two spaces, seperated by immeasurable distance, across an alternate plane, allowing forces to move through those spaces as a short cut. Where normal travel would take eons, traveling along the Alfn Faen cuts the time down to a matter of hours.

The second stage of conquest begins after the Akorn landing, where the military takes over the surrounding area. A perimeter is formed surrounding the ship, and within that perimeter a military colony is founded, facilitating the conquest by allowing resources to be collected from the territory to be used for the construction of warmachines, weapons, armor, and for the feeding of that army.

The Third stage of conquest involves the continual expansion of the perimeter until the whole of the planet falls under the Collectives control. Once this is done, the Akorn begins storing supplies for relaunch, after which it will depart for another conquest, leaving behind the primary military colony, as well as a defensive force considered sufficient for maintaining security of the colony.

Should this process be halted for any reason, substantial resistance, lack of resources, insibordination, etc. Then the Collective initates the Alurn Mat Kana. In doing so, they lock onto the coordinates of the Akorn responsible for the terraformation and colonization of the planet, and begin warpshocking even more Akorns to those coordinates, bringing a full on invasion to the planet. This process insures the colonization, as no force is capable of withstanding the combined might of multiple Akorn Armies.

Aside from the infantry forces that may be deployed, the Tarragon collective boasts an such an advanced technology that it is nearly incomprehensible to most mortal societies. While the infantry Agnur and Marnol forces will make use of their natural armor and anatomy to use simple martial weapons with devastating effect, against more advanced societies (Advanced being relative to others of their kind, as the Tarragon collective see most mortal civilizations as primitive by comparasion to their own.) They make use of Aku brekvel maka ven dosu farunor, or War Engines. These War Engines come in many different varieties and can be modified to suit different purposes as needed.

Akun Niet Huild - This War Engine primarily acts as a forward command station, a defensive outpost, and a mobile anti orbital weapon. It resembles a floating pillar of stone, with a gem located at the top and bottom, and smaller gems located in several locations across it's surface. These gems, called Krion Tasso mak thun Galor bak vreti, or Emitter Prisms, are the primary military tool of the War Engines. The Prisms allow the Draconids to project their abilities on a larger scale, and can be used to manipulate energy and matter, as well as replicate damaged tissue. With the Akun Niet Huild, the emitters are primarily used to reconstruct terrain to the advantage of ground troops, as well as fire powerful anti orbital weapons.

Akun Niet Mornd - This War Engine functions as a long range artillery, using it's emitters to superheat matter into plasma states, before launching it up to four hundred kilometers away..

Akun Niet Kreto - This War Engine is a high speed assault vehicle, using emitters to fire either "shards" or "arrows" at different targets. The primary weapon, crystal like shards of matter constructed using neurophysics, can shred through armor and flesh as though it were tissue paper. Capable of generating and launching up to three hundred thousand of these shards in a minute, it is primarily used for the decimation of infantry and ground based armor. Against air targets, the Kreto uses "Arrows" fashioned the same way the shards are. The arrows track fast moving targets, and move at speeds of up to six hundred meters per second, though their range is limited to seventeen hundred meters, after which they dissolve and lose effectiveness.

Akun Niet Organo - resembling a oblong piece of obsidian, with sharp edges and facets, this war engine is designed to grant air control over an area. the entire outer surface is essentially one large emitter prism, anything entering it's range can be immediately vaporized.

Akun Niet Poro - Small, somewhat birdlike vessels that function as recon probes in space.

Akun Niet Arkos - Space faring war engine built for the purpose of boring into enemy vessels and depositing Agnur Berserkers within. This tactic is generally used as a last resort, as the Agnur Berserkers are very destructive and likely to cause irreperable damage to the vessel they are assaulting, rendering any chance of retrieving them unlikely. On the plus side, Agnur Berserkers can be resucitated up to an hour of suspension in space.

Government

The Tarragon Collective is ruled by the La Duru mak Tanu ethril Lornalla mak senve, translated to The Court of the Dragon Queen. In it reside representatives of every kithid in the collective, as well as representatives for any species living under the rule of the collective upon their colonized worlds. These representatives argue for various matters and decisions raised throughout the collective, to decide which matters are important enough to be placed before the Dragon Queen Lornalla, who makes the final decision in such things.

The Colonies of the Collective are allowed autonomy in most all endeavors, and required only to adhere to the decisions made by the court. In this way the collective maintains strong, independant colonies that are self sufficient, and productive to the collectives people. Each Colony is headed by a Char Narun, which most closely means Chieftain.

Law, justice, and order are not concepts dragons make use of, being that with them whoever is strongest is the one who is right. They do not have criminals in the collective, as they do not have a definition for crime. That being said, the weaker kithids, and especially the Niets, will often pay tributes to stronger kithids for the purpose of keeping them safe and secure.

Economy

As might be expected of a race evolved from primitive hunters and predators, the primary import, indeed the primary necessasity of the collective is food. Following that, all draconids in the collective find themselves at a leisure for things. Most of the Asylannic Kithids have no need for gold or materials, though they gladly take these things to make their homes more lavish and grand, and thus increase their standing among their peers. Some trade in Niets, they take lesser creatures and sell them as servants or, in rare cases, as food for sport.

Gold and rare metals are the only thing the Collective really import or desire, as it is very valuable and they enjoy having it. Gemstones they also enjoy, and to a lesser extent, furniture.

Most of the highest and most prestigous draconids will spend any measure of gold for art, however. Some even lavish granduer upon poets, singers, musicians. Their love of music is based upon the very nature of their kind, for a species that communicates more in song and thought than in words, will ever value such things over others.

As for exporting, theres many things the collective has that others may desire, riches, wealth, technology, but above all else what the Collective has is knowledge. These ancient beings who have mastered most every facet of reality and know most every secret of fate and destiny do not part with such information lightly, and a high price is paid by any who seek such knowledge. Even so, the schools raised by the collective produce some of the wisest and most intelligent minds found among any mortal race in all of existence.
