Setting
Equipped with anti-magic, anti-psionic, and teleportation dampeners Abysso is nigh-impenetrable. That also makes it hard for friend and foe alike to leave, something that could, and would, be used to the advantage of the Invictus themselves.
Men and women walking through the complex followed the soldiers with their eyes, curious to know what was going on.
The soldiers carried Maria to a door, said door opening immediately and allowing them through. They found another white room, this one filled with cages holding dangerous animals.
"Put her here. Sonia will take care of the rest." A man in a labcoat told the soldiers, opening a cage door. "You got it." A soldier said, the group quick to carry Maria to her new digs and leave her.
The cage door slammed shut, locking just as loudly.
Some individual had the forethought to have her clothes tossed in with her while she was unconscious, and upon assessing her surroundings she quietly pulled the furs back around her shoulders to offer some measure of modesty.
She approached the door of the door of the cage, grasping it with her hands to give it a tug to test the strength of it. As it held up under her actions her eyes roamed up and down the hinges before she looked beyond to the man in the labcoat. The hostility in her didn't abate as she tugged at the door once more before stepping back from it and examining the rest of the cage.
"I do apologize." Sonia told Maria, "They obviously put you in here due to a... temper and strength that could put a lot of innocent people in harm's way." Sonia said.
"I'm Sonia Hughes. Formerly of the UK's SIB, but I turned back to my first love of science several long years ago." The Englishwoman told Maria, "Enough of my life story, I'm going to let you out. Before I do... promise me you'll control your rage."
"That would not be," Maria remarked, her thick northern accent lacing her words. "If I had been left in peace. This city, these people. I am Ulfedhnar, and I do not belong here."
Her posture spoke of her restlessness, a tension in her shoulders that had not abated since their arrival. It was a sense of unease that underlay the aggression, perhaps even provoked it.
"I am Maria, of the Liulfring," she finally offered by way of identification.
"It was not. You owe us the courtesy of not being violent by choice as our people have been with you before your outburst." Sonia told Maria, "I'll let you out, guide you to the exit."
Sonia cleared her throat, "But... I would like to help you with your issues. Your anger. Your words to the woman who was here earlier."
"They are a scourge," she replied, her voice low and throaty.
She paced restlessly, but her ire seemed to be easing as the amber hue of her eyes gave way to their natural grey. "What would you know of the wolf-mind," she asked.
"It doesn't matter what you change into on a full moon or any other time, you're still a person most of the time. That means your human thoughts are still there." Sonia explained, "I'm no psychologist, but being a cop was the next best thing."
"I can offer you something more. Something... stable. More or less, that is."
She frowned though. She hadn't been herself, not since she had headed north, not since the wolf-mind had taken voice. It was told that those of Maria's line were destined to succumb to insanity, perhaps she too would in time. Rynhart had spoken of her past, urged her back to civilization, but the wolf-mind was strong these days. It was almost as the woman spoke, a division of beings. That was not the way of the Ulfedhnar, but neither could she explain the phantom voice that plagued her days.
"What is it you offer?" she asked.
"You can be very dangerous, maybe you don't care, but I cannot allow you out there in the world with a rage that could lead to the deaths of innocents." Sonia said.
"Of children especially." The woman told Maria, her tone becoming more stern. "Do you think you can learn to control yourself?"
"The Invictus. I do not know this word."
"We're many things. Mercenaries, soldiers, bounty hunters, investigators, scientists, doctors, medics, historians, accountants." Sonia began, "Vampires, werewolves, witches, warlocks, angels and demons. Humans."
"Most of all, we are individuals. We make our own choices, but we also look out for eachother."
The woman paused for a moment. "You're an outsider, but I'd like to look out for you as well. You can leave when you want, but I want you to give me a chance to solidify your control over your wolf."
Her past conversation with Rynhart had been months old. She had been scathing with him at the time, but there was truth to his words. Bharash, Drakara, Wren, Quillion, Vaena, even Gilnaes a man she had often regarded with no measure of disdain. They had long grounded her to the world of man, but they were gone now, all taken by time, or worse.
This 'Invictus' was not them though. She would only disappoint herself to go chasing ghosts of the past in this place.
"Release me and I will leave the city without incident," she answered finally. "I do not belong here."
Sonia gestured around, "If you do decide you want something more you know where to find me. Wing City, The Palace." The Englishwoman said, "I'll have someone escort you out."
Arya said, already decked out in her heavy orange armor. "Once you are ready find your teams and get out there. Do not engage until you are engaged."
"I too will go," Maria told Arya as she strode towards the woman with intent eyes.
She was restless, and this spoke of imminent battle. Battle was where the northern woman belonged. She was a bit of a wild card though. Her capacity to follow orders and to work as a team had yet to be put to the test.
"I hope you don't mind flying." Arya shouted back to Maria. Men and women were yelling like drill seargents, guns and files being tossed around the complex casually.
This was all routine. This was something they had gotten used to. It was nothing to them at this point. "If you're going, go." An Invictus soldier told Maria, holding a rifle out for her.
"Consider this... training day."
"You can start taking those off now." Phinx told Athena and her people, "We're here." She said, a door sliding upwards in a Star Trek-esque style to reveal a large room.
It was a set, a sound stage. Cameras and camermen, makeup people, interns, security, everything you could think of that you'd find on a movie set.
"We're going on the air soon." Phinx said, "You guys can go mingle. Stryfe's right there." Phinx told Athena, pointing towards Stryfe who was seated on a stool.
Makeup was being applied to her face, it was evident that she didn't enjoy it. "I'm going to go spike the punch..." Phinx said, "We need to be tipsy."
No one saw Kianna arrive, though no one really saw Kianna at all, nor heard her speak for that matter. No one except Stryfe that is.
The woman was seated on a chair with one leg lightly crossed over the other. The short, form fitting red dress that she wore left little to the imagination, but it seemed befitting enough for the atmosphere of the stage around her, not that anyone could make note of her effort to mingle among the bodies of people prepping to go on air.
She turned to Athena, gesturing the woman over. "I hope you don't have stage fright." Stryfe said to Athena.
Kianna glanced towards Athena, eyeing her curiously.
"I don't think I like that one," Kianna noted.
"It's about perception in the end." Stryfe told Athena, mimicking her ghostly shadow by the name of Kianna. "I have my qualms about your... Blood Edict, be sure to make no mention of it." Stryfe said to Athena, "This is about Terra."
"This is about Us and Them. Together. An entity free to express our views, to fight eachother without Taiyou ships attacking police stations, without the Aschen dropping nukes."
Stryfe frowned for a moment, but as quickly as it had appeared the frown was gone and replaced by her cheefuil smile.
"I would say who Aschen remind me of, from my experiences and from how they seem to operate, but rather than lower the class of the area, I will keep my mouth shut.. This is for Terra, anyone who tries to harm others on this planet are our responsibility, but first and foremost this for the people, the people who don't feel represented anymore by the government."
