The Multiverse

Altar Room

70 INK

a part of The Multiverse, by Remæus.

A door at the end of the Corridor opens to the Altar Room. A large basalt altar and several black iron poles adorn the center of this large room. Etched along the floor are a series of sigils and symbols that glow with a faint orange hue. The symbols form a circle around the altar. Atop the black edifice is the remains of a being. Sprawled as if used for some dark ritual, bits of flesh remain, giving the image an unsettling appearance.

Skallagrim holds sovereignty over Altar Room, giving them the ability to make limited changes.

"This is my bird bro," Linus responded simply, if anything feeling slightly astonished. He looked to the bird with a frank smile. It was true. They were bird and man, man and bird. Questing across the unknown, known, and kinda known. Mapping their futures, flying on the wind. Marty and Linus. Linus and Marty.

He looked around now at the room. Strange place, strange things on the walls. Maps? Linus flinched at the clank of machinery moving. Where the heck was this? With a cough he approached the projections. Maps, of course. Why else would he be important? Tech related, map related, driving. All the boring, dead first in the flicks roles that paid drug addictions. Absently Linus found himself tracing one of the lines with his finger.

"Why've you a map of Therrier-Paix, and Shintenchi....Volary isn't marked. Weird, they've been there a while. And...Is this The Glitter Band?" Linus sported a frown. "Only seen pictures of that place's internals. A map..." He pressed his nose closer to it. It was almost like being there.

"These maps are not much different then the ones on my homeworld." Tantomile replied. She pointe3d to a singe system and seemed to 'click' on it. The 'map' shifted and zoomed in on the planet. "This is where I am from." She said. The planet hung in the middle of the room. machinery rumbled, a breeze picked up. Tantomile walked around the image. "We merely call it the Homeworld. We do not know its true name. So, naturally, we keep it simple."

The image faded out into a battle scene on the world from thousands of years ago as Tantomile spoke. "For years my people lived in piece. Sure we had our clan wars and interclan diffrerences. But we were never harmed by outsiders. Until they came. They called themselves the Conquorers." As she spoke a hologram of sorts appeared on a two meter tall man dressed in advanced clothing and weaponry. At the holograms side stood a slightly taller clearly canine creature. "They brought with them a race of beings my people called Pollicles. The Conqourers used the Pollicles as a means of war against my kind so many gnerations ago."

The scen faded and refocsed on a single citadel. A siege was set up against it, with naught by mountains to its back and no path out. Pollilces had massed in the valley before it. "For twenty three generations my kind fought, kept war from our homes as much as we could, but one by one, the Keeps were destroyed. Until finally only one was left. It was in that moment when the Sending took place. Twenty five of our number were sent through magic to Tellar, Earth. And for three thousand years we lived on that planet. Then we went back home."

The scene faded completely back to a star map. There were seven blinking stars in the map "The Pieces of Eden are scattered across the stars. Each one designed to work together. I carry one of them. You've seen it. But these blinking ones." One was blinking not far from where Linus had pointed out. The Glitter Band. "Help me find them, and I will make sure that you will be repaid, with enough money to repair your ship, and more. to upgrade it." It seemed Tantomile was ready to go all out.

As the group entered the ruins and eventually the altar it had all come back to Sandra, weather it was the familiar place or the rumors about the ruins having strange powers what ever it was seemed to bring her memory back. "I remember." She said as the others were talking about a strange bird.

Sandra felt like hell too but for once she wasn't craving alcohol after days away from it she seemed to have kicked it for now. She refocused her attention as she was drawn into Tantomile's story though, she decided to speak up when finished. "You'll pay well for these things?" She asked with a raised eyebrow, Sandra was a Merc and this was screaming pay day to her and anything to her Terra seemed to appease her. "If you get me off Terra, I'll offer my assistance to you both and well get me some medical treatment along the way?" She asked as she rubbed her head the wound had dried but her head still ached.

Brand awoke in the alter room of the ruins he started his journey to find his past. He saw a group of people in the center of the room. Brand was about to question them about the ruins when he had a flashback with sound only. "Put your hands in the air, you are surrounded." "Why should I?" "Because you were a mistake in human evolution." Brand stopped having the flash back. He touched a wall and suddenly he was being shocked. Brand screamed in pain. The group looked at him and brand jumped out a crack in the walls of the room.

"I cannot make a promise that I am unable to keep. But if I am able to get you off this planet, then yes, payment will be given. Though medical treatment will come as required. No doubt your feathered friend requires it." Tantomile said as she crossed her arms. "If that is your offer of aid, then I accept it. Let me worry of medical aid. I know of a healer who can be of help." She said towards Sandra. Hard lavender eyes focused on the woman. The Jellicle was not playing games. Her world was at stake. She turned her attention towards Linus. As if waiting for his confirmation.

Sandra nodded in acceptance of the proposal. Sandra's head still hurt but she still needed to get off Terra. It was too dangerous here she needed to get away. She also knew she needed money and this sounded like something that might pay well. As a mercenary this was an offer that she could not resist. She was very confused by Brand's actions and wondered if he had hit his head as well.

In front of the altar in the large room, Emily reappeared, the flesh mass dissolving as it spat Kinoko and Hana to the floor, reverting its shape to that of the Archbishop Emily Kattelya, as though nothing had happened. Her staff was again at her side, standing on its own as she placed her hands together in the typical prayer form as she muttered words in a foreign language. Her distorted voice was now gone.

Looking at Kinoko first, she noted Kinoko's wounds. She was no longer in her golden glow, having transformed back to normal after Emily had absorbed her into her form. Hana didn't look wounded, but was sleeping perfectly well. Emily smiled and stopped praying to speak. "Wake up, my Acolytes. Resting time is over." Her staff would expel water as though it were a sprinkler, pelting the two warriors with cold water that jolted both awake with stifled yells.

"What the hell?!" Kinoko yelled as she jumped to her feet and looked around frantically before realizing she was sore all over. Hana likewise responded. "Uguu~ So mean, Ms. Kattelya~" The two looked around at themselves and the surroundings before looking back at Emily. Kinoko was the first to speak. "Ms. Kattelya... Where are we?"

"This is your new home. I have brought you to the location where my church holds its services. We only host nighttime services, so during the day, this place is empty save for few visitors. It's safer and more advantageous than the small storehouse room you both had before. Until the city fighting dies down, you will be staying here."

Hana seemed surprised. "But, all of our stuff was still in that storehouse!"

Emily replied. "Fear not. I have brought everything with me. You'll find it in in the storeroom within this monastery under my security. My power protects it, so none but yourselves and I may access the contents. All you have to do is touch the containers, and they will open for you; no one else. Now, stand still... I'll cure your wounds..."

Emily had the two stand before her as her staff glowed. Muttering more prayers in a language that could not be understood, the staff's glow would envelop the two warriors, repairing their bodies while granting them newly forged Battle Armor. The new armor bore the Emblem of the Unknown Trinity upon the right chest. It also bore identical design choices and colors; the new Battle Armor was a black form fitting jumpsuit, a durable chest piece of a blood red color, and a single purple colored shoulder guard for the left shoulder that matched the purple of their Miso Force logo. They each also had a new scouter in a unique style. Each Scouter's lens was colored the same blood red color, with the ear attachment piece colored black. The gloves and boots given were a solid white, and were tough, yet basic. Fully covering the black abdominal portion of the armor was the Miso Force logo.

Kinoko and Hana studied themselves before glancing at each other and giving each other a high five. Emily continued, "I have given both of you new outfits now that you will be under my wing. The Armor you are now wearing is based on the Armor I recovered from the battle site we were just at, coupled with divine improvements straight from the Unknown Trinity. The toughness is extreme, and will suffice for all but the highest level of threats you could encounter. It bears the logo of your team efforts in full, but also shows the Emblem of the Unknown Trinity, signifying you are under my care and tutelage."

As Hana began playing with the new Scouter, Emily explained it as well. "The new devices you wear are an improvement over the clunky ones you wore before. I call them Reconnoiters. They are more durable, and unable to be broken by conventional means. They can also invoke an ability to see a listing of your foes' available means of attack, as well as estimate their relative power compared to yours. I made sure the descriptions were simple; your foes will be graded into one of five threat levels: Low, Moderate, Challenging, High, and Deadly. These five words alone eliminate the need for the numbers you relied on before. I made sure to retain all prior functions of utility that your old ones had, including tracking locations, monitoring condition, and other mundane functions. Lastly, use the Reconnoiters to contact me at any time. I can find and travel to you then, to come to your aid. Only contact me if it is an emergency."

Kinoko nodded, having taken it all in. "Understood, Ms. Kattelya. That means that we have earned your training? Our qualification mission was interrupted, I'll admit at my own stupidity. Then I dragged Hana in. I'm sorry, but I like to fight."

Emily nodded. "You have potential, though the Human you battled before the invasion began should've been an easy fight for a warrior of your species. The two of you qualified for surviving what is a terrible situation indeed. However, my training will not be easy. I will push you both beyond your limits. I will have no less from any Acolytes of mine. Above all else, you will also hold reverence to the Unknown Trinity. Their blessings will make it all possible."

Kinoko nodded as Hana grinned and spoke. "We will! Yeah! Kee hee hee! We're official Acolytes now!"

Emily spoke again. "I have altered your memories. The moves I showed you will not be the same. You will be learning my moves within my style. No longer will you rely on poor imitations of what I have shown you; I will have you use my very techniques. If you master this difficult training, no one in the universe, sans those beings of a power that matches mine, can ever touch you. Now, before we start training to return to the conflict, we shall go and feed you two. I can tell from here that you two have not eaten truly well in a while. Come and stand beside me. I'll take us somewhere."

The two stood beside Emily and awaited her go, which Emily signaled by tapping her staff against the ground, causing the trio to disappear almost instantly, as though warping.
