Asteria City

ImageAsteria is a sprawling coastal city located along the Eastern Seaboard that serves as one of the major hubs for international travel to and from Terra. Possessing one of the largest spaceports on the Eastern Seaboard, Asteria boasts a massive level of traffic and is a prime tourist location as well.

Asteria contains several prominent academies of higher education, museums, schools of art, corporate businesses, and numerous historical landmarks. Among its many local attractions, Asteria also contains a prominent NPA field office, and a large naval base is situated across the bay from the city.

Asteria has strong divisions of culture and ethnicity due to the high concentration of immigrants - both legal and illegal. In particular the city possesses an especially prominent number of Shintenchi and Caprican immigrants as well as a noteworthy concentration of scythian illegals.

Asteria enjoys a high level of prosperity, but the large abundance of illegal immigrants has sowed an element of desperation into the poorer regions of the city. It is often unwise for tourists to visit Asteria without taking care to learn what districts are best avoided after dark.

"Oh it was the truth." He assured her. "I only rarely lie, and only for very good reason." Such as letting his darling have another child. Still, the other court should have protected Brandon better, and his wouldn't be an issue at all. He smiled at her, pleased, gripped the nail tighter, and pulled until it tore from her hand.

Ah, the sweet scent of blood. It was always a pleasant thing to scent. Too bad sweet Bel wasn't here. The man considered her words, rather curious now. "I confess to some curiosity. Why do you think I'm terrible at keeping secrets?" That was the question.

Of course, he did anticipate Catherine telling the council and the queen about this. But she would be healed, free of her marks before being released...though not of her missing nails. It would be a hard sell, as far as he was concerned.

Biting back the urge to scream in pain, Catherine groaned and swore instead. It was nearly as bad as Broadmoore, as they had kept her drugged and bound most of the time as well; this somehow didn't seem any different. "You took him." She spat at him. If Taro was smart enough, he would know what she was talking about. She had known before approaching the court what had happened to Brandon, after all she'd heard it from him himself.

"You lied when you claimed protectorship, I knew neither of you were to be trusted." Catherine continued as she struggled against her bindings. "You care nothing about anything other than your own gain."

Aw, no scream. Still, this was interesting. He selected another finger, this time on her other hand, which much care. Her middle finger would do. It almost felt symbolic. He smiled to her though her words did concern him. "Took him? My dear, he was dead, or as good as. Perhaps White Rose should have done a better job protecting him, given they knew we wanted him so. Though my dear Belial is terribly clever when it comes to not being noticed. I suppose I can't blame them entirely."

He tightened his grip. "Now. Tell me how you knew about him." With that he ripped out the second nai, admiring how the blood welled up there. It was always wonderful, this sort of thing. He did enjoy it greatly. The vampire lowered his head over her hand and lapped up the blood. "mmm. Such heady power stuck inside you."

"I will not." Catherine gasped in pain as another nail went missing. Turning her head away from Taro as he lapped at the fresh blood welling from the wound, wishing she knew how to release herself from the chains they had bound her in. She had long ago figured out how to bypass Council's own bindings, but these felt different; as far as she was able to tell there were no chinks to push at in the magic, no snags to pull at to unravel.

"Not so clever as Brandon. I know what you did, over extending your reach." She said vehemently. The act of turning him alone would have Tatianna withdrawing her support from the Dragon Court, but that also potential consequences.

"Ah." He said and sighed. "Let's try again, Catherine." He tsked and selected another nail on this hand, her pointer this time. "How did you know about my son?" That was the crux of a matter. Brandon was his son now, and he would protect the fledgling. Even if it meant torturing his aunt to find out where the poor dear went.

Brandon was a clever boy, of course. It wasn't the first time he had slipped away, but it was the first time he got so far. "And keep in mind the sweet fledgling is not yet stable. His bloodlust is ferocious. It's dangerous for him to be away." Taro's line was known for fierce blood lust above all else regardless.

Catherine didn't answer Taro immediately as he removed yet another nail, the urge to scream was almost impossible to resist "I didn't go looking for him if that's what you think." She answered breathlessly. The pain was intense, blinding even, at he continue to remove the nails slowly, one by one. She didn't care if Brandon was his son or not, she had been the one who had ensured that he a safety net after everything, and he had family after long after one had abandoned him. "It's never been stable, Taro." Catherine said with a hollow laugh. That was the thing, they didn't know Brandon's history nearly as extensively as she did.

She knew there were moments when her nephew had nearly lost control over the magic as a mortal, allowing it's addiction to envelope him. That was the funny thing about magic, it could be addictive for some, and for others it hardly mattered. There was always risk, and she knew it, as did most of the unseen world. "Think with something other than your stomach." She spat.

"No, the sweet boy would have gone looking for you." he murmured and sighed. This was getting nowhere. Catherine was a rather formidable foe at the best of times. He shook his head and stepped back, examining his bleeding hands, before going to the table to put the pliers on the table. he examined the tools and considered his options. He couldn't keep here here forever. The connection was simply too obvious as to where she had disappeared.

He would finish her punishment, then call for Rahal. The mage would heal her and escort her out, to be banished from the court for a period of time. It would b enough, he supposed. He considered things, then eyes the whips, running his hand over then before selecting the studded cat of nine tails. He rather liked the extra bite given by the blades himself. He slipped the handle in his pocket and picked up the scissors, then walked behind her. "And where did he find you?"

"I don't remember." She lied distracted, her mind elsewhere while briefly struggling against the binds, hoping that one set or the other would loosen. This had become utterly ridiculous, being punished like some petulant child all because she dared to disagree with the prince publicly. Catherine was convinced that there was a way out of the things, she just hadn't found the weak point yet, or they hadn't allowed her to find it. Either way she wasn't going to cave and tell Taro what he wanted to know, Brandon deserved a chance at freedom from this insane court and it's rulers.

"It was weeks ago." Catherine added as she continued to probe the magic in the chains and manacles. Magic had never been her strong suit, but desperate times called for desperate measures.

"A lie." he said simply. The binding on her ankles began to give, having not be spelled to resist anything really, and having not been properly tightened. The man smirked as he reached behind her, and pulled a latch, letting the back of the chair fall backwards. Calmly, he began to cut open the back of her shirt, cutting though the clothes to reveal her back.

"You won't enjoy this." he said simply and stepped back. "And do stop fighting the bindings. They can certainly handle you." They ought to be able to at least.

He didn't notice that the runes in one of them were glowing, weakening rapidly under Catherine's explorations. They had been designed with Rahal in mind, but the mage had thoroughly weakened them in his numerous attempts to get loose. "A last chance. Where did you see my son?"

"How would you know? He's not my fledgling." She commented as she felt the back of the chair fall backwards and heard Taro step behind her and begin to cut away the back of her black silk dress. "You should keep better track of your kids Taro." Catherine added as she found the weak point in the runes to exploit, thanking whomever had been in the manacles before her. "I mean really... fledgling escapes Dragon Court Prince, I can see the missive to Council now." She said hoping to momentarily distract him.

Her legs and feet were free now, but the arms and wrists were still to come. But she doubted she could get the things off before Taro struck her with whatever twisted device of torture he'd picked up now. "I told you, you bastard. It was weeks ago, a fortnight if your blood addled brain can comprehend that." Catherine remarked acerbically. No doubt he was getting immense enjoyment out of this, and had failed to notice the silver ring missing.

"And if he's still in the area, it would have been useful." he sighed and stepped back, then lifted the whip. "Don't pass out." he instructed before he began to lash her, barely stopping between each strike. It was a familiar punishment after all. Rahal earned it a handful of times, though others earned it more than his little mage. He set into a comfortable rhythm, stopping after twenty lashes and admiring the red that fell down her back.

A shame about the dress. It couldn't be helped.

The runes weakened further until they sputtered out, as Taro admired the work, not paying attention to the manacles. They had held Rahal, who was a good measure for magical power. He wasn't worried.

It was easy for him to instruct her not to pass out, he was the one with the whip. "Easy for you to say." Catherine said as she gasped, nearly screaming in pain with the first lash. The pain was blinding, and grew worse with each successive lash from Taro's whip. The blood trickling down her back through the shreds of her dress didn't help either. "Has anyone ever told you..." She started to say as she pulled on the last thread of magic in the runes. "Never to underestimate someone?" Catherine asked before reaching out and breaking the manacles.

It had been a good effort on Taro and Bel's part, but in the end it hadn't worked.

His eyes narrowed and he dashed to the table, grabbing a knife from there to aid in defence. "Those hold Rahal. They should have held you with ease." That they didn't was disappointing. She was council-bound. She should have been very weakened under them. This was also alarming.

If she could break through bindings, then suddenly he had a very decent opponent on his hands. That, more than anything else, was worrisome. He was ready to act though, ready to fight and take her down permanently, if needed.

"I'm not Rahal." Catherine stated irritably with a sigh as she stood from she had been in the chair, and worked at removing what was left of the chains from her person. "Nor am I yours to discipline." She added with a frown as she saw him pick up the knife. All she really wanted was to leave on her terms, and be done with this mad man.

Looking around, she couldn't yet perceive any exit from this new hell she'd found herself in, but she largely suspected that all entrances and exits had been magically occluded. "Let me leave Taro..."

Taro considered this, then nodded and snapped his fingers. The exit appeared easily. "Go find Rahal. He'll heal you." and the sight of her wounds would assure others she had been punished. "...and lend you a coat, at the least, I am sure." her dress was well ruined after all, but Rahal should have something she could borrow, at least, though it would be ill-fitting.

And she was his to discipline, and had even agreed to join his court. He let the comment slide. "The boy is fond of you anyway. I'm sure he'll fuss." and he more than likely would fuss too. His son was such a worrywart over people, at times. It was ridiculous.

Catherine said nothing, instead giving Taro a searing glare as she left. It was rare that she used her power, finding that there were more instances where it could be considered abuse than anything else. There would be no next time, and she would find a way to cut the ties with the court. No doubt Tatianna would be displeased, but would also see the reasoning behind no longer allying with such unstable individuals. She didn't care who was fond of her or not, Taro and Bel had sparked a bitter and dangerous resentment within their ambassador.

Pausing for a moment in the doorway before completely leaving she considered saying something, but instead thought better of it.

A single voice growled out through the swaying shadows of the city over the rumbling of the earth.

"The Harvest Begins Anew!"

As the people of the city scrambled for cover, beasts of unholy darkness poured forth from the shifting shadows of the earth and city. As cracks appeared in the ground and opened into fissures, the creatures poured forth from them, attacking any and all people in the city without any mercy. Each body would be mutilated as the Legion of Shadows made its move.

Since their great harvest in Wing City was a resounding Success, it was time to try the other cities of the land, in this case, the major Cities of Aslund's Eastern Seaboard. Hounds of darkness and pain erupted first, chasing down those who were running, while Trappers kept those who were trying to escape from doing so. Slashers came in and finished the job, and each body slain was another soldier for the Legion.

Floating in the air above the City, the purest form of Shadowling watched and controlled their respective contingents of the Legion.

The cover of dusk had put the city into the shadow of night, as everything had mysteriously became just a bit more spooky and mysterious. The corners seemed a little more dangerous, the alleys a little more threatening, the streets requiring a little more caution. It was exactly the kind of atmosphere that young boys should not go into at night, except for the well lit or well secured areas.

"Take this, you brat!"

And for Rin, he was getting kicked in the stomach in a back alley, having been assaulted by a group of scoundrels. However, they had not been waiting around for a target, but rather, they had been following him the whole time.

"You think you could just operate in our city without being noticed? And I hear that there is a rather nice bounty on you as well, and the high paying illegal kind at that".

He kicked Rin, and sent him sprawling into a nearby wall of a building. After that, he mumbled some words of discontent at Rin, as he took out a cell phone and began to dial....but the moment before he was about to hit the call button, suddenly the phone in his hand was replaced by a dagger, only it was stabbed through his palm. Rin, who had just been beaten to a pulp, was now standing up and holding the man's cell phone.

"I see, so this is the contact number. This was surprisingly easy to get. I couldn't search online after all, they definitely had some sort of monitoring system for that".

Rin, also known as Subject XI. The third youngest of the "brothers" who were really clones created at different times. He was the tenth clone, as the original Subject I was not a clone but the one they were cloned from.

"You...you bra..."

The man did not even get to finish, as a large Raven swooped into the alley and ate half of his body, after which he spit out the dagger that had been stabbed into his hand.

"Nightsky, feel free to make them your dinner" he told the large bird, which was actually his Spirit Guardian, as he copied down the full phone number. "To think, they would start dialing before confirming I was unconscious. Well, I guess that is just the quality of local thugs".

Soon after, when Nightsky was done nd Rin had gotten all the information he needed, he disabled but did not destroy the cell phone, keeping it with him in case he could use it.

"Alright, with that done...lets go back to the hotel room".

And thus, Nightsky disappeared into thin air and Rin began walking through the dark streets lit only by street lights and moonlight.

Avera checked his phone, looking at the time once more as he stepped through the streets. It was still plenty of time, and he figured everything was okay, but...he couldn't help but check it again.

He was looking to see the time pass not out of impatience, but joy. Confirming that time was still flowing for him in the outside world. After having been isolated in that lab for so long, locked in a room, never given anything he didn't need as a lab rat, including clothing, to be outside in a city full of free people, wearing stuff they had taken from the scientists, who had taken it from the people they slaughtered in their experiments, it was a great feeling.

Of course, Avera had yet to experience so much, so he was currently in the middle of doing just that. He took out a wallet from his pocket, which contained all sorts of things not in Avera's name as well as cash and that had not been there moments ago.

"I hope you did not take this from some innocent parent, Kurokage".

"No My'lord, I stole it from a man on business trip...sorry, on a business trip. He was going to go home and abuse his wife because he heard from a neighbor she was planning to leave with the kids before he got back, and stop her".

"Oh, I see...will this stop him from reaching them though?"

"I also caused some damage to his leg which should soon..."

Suddenly, a man screamed far behind them. Avera looked, but given the timing he was not concerned by smiling instead.

"What the hell! Why now?! My leg just broke for no reason!!"

"Hitting it in just the right places...I don't normally like hurting people, but I will let it pass this time since he was going to hurt others unjustly".

"Understood, My'lord".

"Now, lets go get something to eat!"

And so, the two of them set off towards a restaurant just like that.

Kagami stumbled towards the scream, dragging himself along a wall. "What have... we here? I can smell such a tasteful energy..." Kagami raised his hand, feeling something that wasn't there. "What have we here?" He spoke it completely. An abruptly loud crack could be heard. Kagami could feel his entire body reconstructing, but he had enough strength to continue walking. "Who released such energy? I can taste its trace." His pupils became dilated as he followed whatever he could "taste" leaking about.

Kagami hadn't been in a city of any type in... an eternity. He'd always stick to his own place, avoiding humankind, or any kind, for that matter. He was forced out of hiding by Dollface, who had found him.

His attention snapped onto the two walking off in the distance. "I... I can taste it." Kagami said plainly. His hand reaching forward as if he could grab the energy. "Energy" as he put it. When one side of him took over, any type of magical essence, or any essence at all, was considered energy. "Found... it..." Kagami tried to rush forward, but his legs collapsed from the sudden pressure with a crack. He wasn't going to go empty handed. He'd force himself to even have a taste of what he could sense. That's just how he is when he's this way.

~I can taste it. Let me feed, Valveskur. You had your chance with Dollface and failed, so I will not fail with a measly easy target.~ One voice said in his head, while another spoke after.

~Oh please. We all know I'm the perfect person to do this. Val is good at war, you're good at... I don't know. And Karu'kh is good at being vicious when in the right mood. I'm the smooth talker. It's something I take pride in.~

"Both of ya', shut yer' traps. I don't want you both fighting because you're itchin' to get out." Val said calmly. "Once I'm done, I'll decide who gets the next go before Kagami's back." He couldn't let himself get distracted now. His attention snapped back onto the two in the distance.

"Huh?"

Avera was just walking towards the resteraunt he chose when he felt Kurokage's presence shift, and the spiritual power of the atmosphere change slightly. However, he found that happened a lot on this planet so it was not a particular concern. Kurokage was just a bit more alert and paranoid then him.

The place he entered was a good ol burgers and fries with milkshakes kind of place. It had an inviting and mouth watering smell in the air, and the food was prepared on sight, and even in view of the customers. It was the kind of place you could not only trust, but socialize in. He did notice the store had both a new feel, and a reinforced feel.

"I wonder if this city has a violence issue?"

Avera was still painfully unaware of Terra's history, to the point that people who knew a great deal of it would cringe over his statement.

He immediately ordered three large bacon cheeseburgers, with a large order of fries for each, and a milkshake. He couldn't down milkshakes like Ixa without getting brainfreeze after all, especially since Ixa could both create and control all ice in a large area around him, including ice he did not make.

Kurokage ended up sneaking his shadow up the table, and took one of the burgers and order of fries for himself, leaving the rest to Avera. Both were still unaware of any other party in the area they might soon encounter.

Valveskur forced himself up, even if his entire body cracked from the pressure. "We keep pressing on. It doesn't matter if we get it or not. We press on." He placed a hand on something, anything to support him. He hadn't felt this way in a long time. Since the great war, he was apart of. No one would know which war because he knew what had happened. Everything was crashing in on everything.

~For a warrior, you sure do suck. Someone more experienced should take over, like Karu'kh. Or even Jink over there.~ It was a figurative joke. In his mind, everyone was everywhere.

Val kept walking, pressing into the restaurant. "Where's Jsck when you need him?" He dragged past, looking for somewhere to sit. He passed Avera, knowing Avera was the one he was after. Yet he knew not his name. His entire body was aching in pain, which is why he couldn't let Karu'kh take over. But at this rate, Val would end up releasing all the energy that was building up and destroy the place. He made his way over to order. "I'll just take a... Big Mac." Before Val was forced in this universe, he was about to have his first Big Mac, so he could only hope they had them here. "I'll take it to go." He left his payment before sitting down, his eyes looking about. Val's pupils still dilated when he saw Avera. All that energy. He knew Karu'kh's desires were what was making him this way and he couldn't help it.

Val massaged his own shoulders, feeling almost done with his body being reconstructed.

~Once it was done, then we'll make our move? I guess it's a slightly smart move, considering we'd be almost useless with a broken body.~

Val's body began to radiate an aura. It was speeding up his healing process which would normally take seven hours, down to ten minutes. "I decide what we do, Zenlak. You're still annoying as ever even without being attached to my sword."

"We are being targeted" Kurokage warned him, again, as something near the origin of what he sensed had followed them in. "Please activate the systems of the Amberclad and prepare for battle, My'Lord".

"Aren't you overreacting? Well, fine. I have prepped the weapons and shields of the Amberclad for deployment, but don't expect me to summon the whole damn ship. That thing is bigger then the city itself. Maybe the Amberclad's Lander, since it could operate in the city".

The Amberclad was classified as a Super Dreadnaught, even in its own records. Avera had to wear a bomb collar until recently because the power to keep that in a pocket dimension.

"How the hell is that even a power in the first place?"

If the original owner was not dead, he would ask him how he got that power. He thought these things while finishing his meal. He then left the place, heading towards a nearby park.

"Lets see if he follows or strikes".
