The Multiverse

Dark Woods

70 INK

a part of The Multiverse, by Remæus.

An extension of the ancient and foreboding woods. The trail continues to wind south amid the bent and gnarled branches of the twisted trees. Along the path is a wooden arrow sign. Scrawled on the sign in a long dead and forgotten language is a single word. The soft loam has been converted to hard packed earth, the smells of the forest almost overpowering. In the distance the sounds of animals moving are heard.

Remæus holds sovereignty over Dark Woods, giving them the ability to make limited changes.

Sairia stood straight, taking a slight step back, her body turning slightly so her right shoulder would be behind her. She quietly placed her hand through the shadows, grasping a blue bladed sword by the hilt that lay hidden there. She watched him closely as he smiled to her, the look on his face sending a chill down her spine. She held still and returned his smile innocently. When he stepped towards her, her right hand tightened on the hilt of her blade as she spoke up, "Are you a friend or foe?" her voice would be melodic and non-threatening as her deep blue eyes gave off a brighter glow as she drew power from the grass and earth below that she stood upon. Her ears listening behind her and to her sides expecting an attack from the creatures from before.

The man halted, tilting his head as he watched her. He understood the question, but he was trying to think of a appropriate response.
"Friend or foe?" he said with a smooth, calm voice. The man let out a hollow smile, his face expressing only emptiness. He did not walk any further once he noticed her stance was defensive. The man put his sword in his sheath slowly, not taking his eyes off of her.
"I... am neither" he said hesitantly.

She nodded lightly and released the hilt of her sword within the shadows and turned to face him normally and leaning back against the rickety old wood of the cabin. She watched his expressions, or rather lack of and tilted her head slightly to the right. "Has the rain brought you here?" she said as her eyes drifted from him for only a moment and glanced to the sky. She was very still, almost like a statue as she felt the air around her, feeling for something to come for her as she was still outside. She felt a trickle down her back and realized she was still bleeding. She kept still for the moment, drawing power from below her, the water in her blood pulling and tugging painfully at the raw skin, pulling the flesh back together and sealing it with a light scratch like scab down her back. She didn't move but let out a deep breath once it was over.

"Yes, I'd rather stay dry this night. The weather has been quite strange lately" He would respond with a calm tone. The man began to look around him, as if he was expecting something to appear. His nose twitched, wrinkling at the bridge. He jerked his head quickly to her, his expression had changed abruptly from calm to anxious.

He clenched a fist and pressed it against his mouth. It was like he was desperately trying to hold in a cough. His eye color faded into white, they became white circles. He remained stiff in that position as she closed her wound. Once the wound was sealed, he exhaled sharply.

The man inhaled slowly before taking a few steps forward. "Is there any others with you? Hopefully I don't crowd the cabin" He said with a quick frown, immediately smiling after that. The expression was starting to relax, no longer tensed. His irises remained white however. The man would take a few more steps forward before putting his arm out for a handshake.
"Mat is my name, How about you?" he said, curious to know her's.

She nodded slightly, “Yes the weather has been very odd. I should warn you, the cabin is cursed. There are three of us here now, we lost one a few hours ago. It would seem stepping inside is some sort of dinner bell.” The last sentence came out with a hint of sarcasm, but she was obviously irritated by the situation.

Sairia tensed as she saw his expression change as she healed herself, her mind already adding up the probability that his eye color change and facial expression was from the blood on her back. She pushed herself off the outer wall of the cabin and stepped out from the cover of the roof into the rain, the water gently washing away any excess blood that may have still stained her back. The dim light from the sky shimmered off the water and against her skin, drenching her dark red hair as it clinged in thick strands to her shoulders, chest, and back.

She took a few more steps towards him as his expression changed and calmed, his hand extending to her as she took her and laced it within his palm. Her skin would be deeply warm to the touch and smooth like silk. “Pleasure to meet you Mat. I’m Sairia.” She let her lips curl into a soft smile, her eyes locking with his as she watched his expressions change.

Mat nodded as he listened to her intently. "A dinner bell eh? sounds challenging" he would say with a twisted grin. "It is unfortunate that one was lost, hopefully that is the only casualty from here on" His grin changed into a smaller smile.

Mat smiled as he shook her hand. His hands were freezing cold from being in the rain for awhile. His robe had been drenched. As the rain continued to fall, he began to wonder. What if this rain was a warning? What if we're attacked during the night.

He would ask " where are they others?" a smile on his face.

She would smile playfully to him, "It was quite the challenge, now that you mention it." Her deep blue eyes drift from him for a moment back to the bones from Teth, "He saved us, but we think he was stolen." she thought for a moment thinking that really wouldn't make sense, but it was already said. She looked back to Mat, "Teth," she motioned towards the bones, "Killed off quite a few of those things. We should be safe for now..." she trailed off, smiling lightly to him.

When Sairia felt how cold he was she motioned for him to follow her to the cabin, standing under the roof's cover from the rain but not yet entering. "I wouldn't recommend entering the cabin... but I wont stop you. They just don't seem to want you to leave it..." she had stopped following him with her eyes at this point, keeping her glare at the trees in defense."

She paused and tilted her head back to motion to the cabin, "The others are inside. More then likely trying to recover from the fight." She hadn't seen either of them take on wounds, but she was sure her and Teth were not the only ones to be injured.

Lucario was still sitting against the wall of the cabin, his ears flickered, Sairia was talking to someone. He got up and looked through the window. She was talking to a guy in a robe' Who's he?' Lucario thought, he looked out the door with a curious but shy type face, looking at the guy, Lucario turned to Sairia" Who's this? Someone else trying to get out of the rain?" Lucario asked, he looked him over.

Mat looked at the bones, examining the parts missing. "I see, stolen makes sense to me" he would frown,"He died in honor, his death is not shameful at all" a smile returning to his face. Mat hesitantly followed her to the cabin. He had already beared one curse. If he entered the cabin, he would bear another. "The trees are not of peace?" he would think to himself. Mat had always found shelter in the woods, hearing that these woods were somewhat hostile interested him.

"I think I'll stay out here for the meantime" he finally said, contemplating about what may happen in the near future. Mat had heard noises from inside the cabin, he was eager to meet the others. "Hopefully they have only minor wounds, better yet.. no wounds at all" he said with a soft smile.

Sairia smiles lightly to him, "He was a helpful demon." she thought about Teth and glanced to the ground. Her eyes slipping back up as she leaned against the cabin again, the weak wood creaking with the extra weight even though she was very light. She shook her head, "No... the trees speak only of warning right now." she thought about the trail to the cabin, "It was oddly hard to find the cabin, as if nature didn't want it to be found."

She could hear the others moving around inside the cabin and tilted her head towards the door, checking if they were about to come out or not but looking at Mat from the corner of her eye. "I wish I had stayed outside..." she trailed off in a bitter comment. She glanced him over, noticing that even though he was now out of the rain he must have still been cold. She flicked her right wrist and it engulfed her hand in a warm flame. She was careful to hold it away from him but close enough to create some warmth around them.

He returned a smile, it was as if his eyes were billboards. The message read "thoughtful" across them. "I figured he would be, after all.. he gave his life defending you all. Sacrifice is an action never forgotten" He said serenely. Mat nodded as he listened to Sairia.

"The forest warns us of the cabin, an omen.. very peculiar" Mat said under his breath. He watched as she tilted her head and noticed he never really left her eyesight. He began to think to himself, "I wonder, I might not be as welcomed here as I thought I was. Hopefully if I keep myself this way, I won't .. change."

Mat lifted his hands and moved them towards the flame. He was cautious not to set his long sleeves aflame. The water that drenched it assured that it wouldn't. "Thank you!" he said with a large smile. "How very thoughtful you.." He stopped midway in his sentence. Hearing something in the distance. "You are" he would finish he sentence as if he heard nothing at all.

(Sorry Shadow, for some reason I didn't see your post!)

Sairia turned to Lucario as he leaned out the door, flashing him a light smile, "This is Mat, the rain brought him, but we've decided to take our chances outside. He hasn't stepped into the cabin yet." Her deep blue eyes rested on Mat once again and she looked away, realizing she must be coming off as rude for staring at him so often. She was only weary of her situation and didn't mean any offense.

Sairia smiled to him as he warmed himself from her fire but snapped her head in the direction of a noise in the trees. Her body froze and the flames lifting from her hand started to spin in a ball form in her palm. "Your very welcome Mat." she spoke but didn't turn her attention from the trees, her eyes carefully examining everything she could see.

Mat looked over to the blue figure. "Hmm he's not human, I've seen nothing like him" he would say with a curious look on his face. " It is nice to meet you, my name is mat" he grinned.

Mat looked back to the trees, his hand on his hilt. The weapon was locked in its sheath, only to be taken out when the handle was twisted clockwise. His eyes were searching the forest. He knew that they were being watch. The question lingered in his head, persistently repeating.

who was watching them?

He moved into a defensive stance.

[ lol it's ok Sairia]

Lucario just gave a quick nod towards Mat, it was good that he didn't step inside the cabin yet, although with Sairia outside the cabin, and Lucario, they may have got the monsters attention again" Maybe you should come back in, Sairia" Lucario suggested to her. If it was that, going inside would be the only way to fix it, and the safest. But after last time, this two girls didn't seem to really care about safety.

Shenna Rai had abandoned her leaf to the table moments before Lucario stepped to the door. She finally walked over and poked her head out of the door way to see what was going on. Another person had arrived. She eyed him up and down once before tilting her head at him. He wasn't her pursuer. She smiled and said hello to him, then turned her gaze to the forest behind him.

"They didn't try to attack you?" she asked, looking back to him.

Mat looked away from the trees and to her. " They have not attacked me yet, but I fear that one is impending" He said with a grievious tone. He looked back at the forest for a quick moment before turning back.

"So your the other?" he said with a smile, "what is your name? Mine is mat."

"I am Shenna Rai," she said as she stepped up beside Lucario, not quite outside the door. Unable to extend her wings in the cabin, she settled for a small bow to him and spreading her pinions slightly, her way of greeting new people and showing respect. As she straightened back up, she looked back up at him.

"If it isn't too much prying, may I ask what has caused you to travel so late this night, Mat?"

"Nice to meet you Shenna Rai" He would say, returning a bow to her. Mat hesitated as he thought of a response.

"I was traveling to the next town to find refuge there. The one I had left has been raided. None were left alive. I managed to escape however, only due to my skill in survivability. I traveled along the road nearest to this cabin when it started to rain. I could've traveled to the next town, but I wasn't in the mood for a storm and a muddy trail. So I followed my instincts, and by some weird coincidence, was led to this cabin here." He said with composure. Mat was not entirely exhausted, but he had small fatigue from the incident at the village. " I figured a homely cabin wouldn't be any harm seeing that its in the middle of a dense forest, I guess I was wrong. These creatures that attack, I don't understand why they do. But I'm eager to find out" he added with a grin.

Sairia smiled to her friends as they came out to greet Mat and leaned against the wall facing all of them near the door. Her eyes would glance back and forth quickly, keeping an eye on the tree line and around them but making sure to not be rude to the others by showing interest in their conversation. She nodded to Lucario when he spoke about getting back inside but she had no intention of doing so. As a witch she could sense the curse placed on the cabin and would stay outside until she could figure out how to get rid of it. To her, taking her chance with the creatures was easier then giving in to the cabin. "I'd rather stay with our guest outside. It would be interesting to see if they attack him regardless of stepping in the cabin." she gave a reassuring smile to Mat noting that she had no intention of letting them hurt him either way.

A Monkey walked through the woods.(he sorta walks like a gorilla, with knuckles on ground) He had an orange-silver tint to his fur, his tail was 2 feet long, he was about 4 feet 6 inches when walking, and he had three weapons. One was a hooked sword, the other was a scimitar. They were both in scabbards that were attached to a belt on his waist. The third weapon was a belt of throwing knives that went up his chest. The handles of these knives were specifically designed to let his tail throw them. He also wore very light plate mail. There was thin armor on his forearms, lower arms, thighs, shins, and chest.

He was walking through the woods and the rain. He did not mind the rain seeing how on his home planet it constantly rained. His species wasn't called rain-monkeys for nothing. Yet he didn't want to get too wet. So what he did was take off his weapons and armor and put them into his his pack. Then he shape-shifted into a flying creature from his home-planet, the duco-bird. It was large with a ten foot wingspan and had a sharp beak and talons. He flew above the trees looking for somewhere to camp for the night, so he may dry himself. Eventually he saw a nice looking cabin and decided to go there.

Hanuman, in his bird form, landed on the roof of the cabin, with a loud noise, as the bird was immensely heavy. He then shape-shifted into his true monkey form and put his weapons and armor back on. Then he started joking to himself. He told himself jokes about the ice-apes, and those seemed to calm his nerves, for this cabin gave him the creeps.

At the sound of a loud thud behind her on the roof of the cabin Sairia pushed off the outer wall where she stood next to Mat and Lucario, her other hand bursting into flames as the other was already lit from warming Mat. She turned to see a monkey in armor talking to himself. Her head tilted slightly to the left and she perked a brow. Was this another creature that had come to attack them? She wondered. “Mat…” she whispered, not letting her eyes drop to him but watching the monkey closely. “Hello?” she asked him, only because she could tell he was sentient enough to speak to himself.

Mat glanced at Sairia, turning around immediately after. He pulled his black katana quickly from inside his large robe, holding it out towards the monkey. A shadowy mist surrounded the black blade like an aura. Who was this person? was this what the forest had warned us about? Mat was as still as a marble statue. His stance was tense, He was ansty.

The monkey looked at them and couldn't help but snicker. Is this how you treat those who want freedom from the rain, with weapons? As he said that he laughed and slid down the roof and landed next to them. Greetings how are you? Are you here to get freedom from the rain as well? he jumped up and down shaking some water off of him. He checked his weapons to and armor to make sure they were there. After he was sure he had everything he needed he started to walk towards the cabin, not even giving them time to answer his questions, as he is forgetfull. O yes! I forgot, my name is Hanuman, and i hail from the rain-monkey citadel of Kishkindha. With that said Hanuman went to the door and started to open it so he may walk inside and get cover from the rain.

"My apologies, there was a few attacks here recently. Any abrupt appearences are alarming enough" He would say as he sheathed his weapon. The tense posture he had changed quickly to one that was more relaxed. He couldn't help but watch him open the door. Mats mouth opened slightly, as if he was going to say something.

".... Nice to meet you hanuman, my name is Mat" he finally said.

Shenna Rai watched the well armed monkey as he landed in front of the cabin, then approach and introduce himself. She moved out of the doorway to stand next to Sairia and let Hanuman go inside. She glanced at Lucario, then at Mat and Sairia, and back to Hanuman. A rain-monkey citadel? She wondered what that was and tilted her head at the monkey's back. So many different peoples and she wanted to know so much about them, but now wasn't the time. She shook her head slightly and introduced herself to Hanuman's retreating form.

"I am Shenna Rai," she said, bowing her head to him. Since he had his back turned, there was no need for her to bow completely. He wouldn't have seen her anyhow. She looked around her at the forest, wondering how many others were stranded in the rain this night and heading here.
