Setting

Welcome to The World of Gaia, Adventurer.

You have come at a most dire time. The land is steadily falling into much strife with each passing turn of the sun. Plague spreads across the Kingdom of Skyfall, sending many men to an early grave. It is close to claiming the King and along with it, the Crystal Crown. The Noble Houses of Markett, Traeger, and Edenhelm are all laying claim to the throne with political savagery and causing much dissent in the land due to chaos. Civil war is drawing more near as tensions rise between the Houses as Skyfall may soon be left leaderless from the death of their Beloved King Lesym Tharcey Edenhelm. The denizens of Skyfall are left to ponder who will rise up while the elderly, the young, and the frail are stricken with the plague. Clerics scramble in order to find a cure but none has been found, only a road to an untroubled death through medicine.

In the isolated Kingdom of Mahark, inside The Exalted Mountains, the Dwarves still dig as deep as the earth will allow. It has come to light that they may have dug too far. An artifact of great proportions had been unearthed and revealed in the depths of the mountains. Not even the lore of the Dwarven Lords recite such an article in the Tales of Mahark. Details of the artifact cannot be uncovered as any who travel too close disappear and are never seen again. Dwarves ride as fast as their steeds will allow in order to reach the Neluthien Kingdom. They seek to speak with the elves and collect their intellect on the matter, even if they must begrudgingly pay a hefty fee of precious mithril arms and armament.

Meanwhile, Kingdom of Neluthien remains as silent as it always has been, hiding many secrets inside the Elwendil Woods. But if one were a Child of the Woods, they would speak of the Elven War raging within the depth of the forest. All stake claim for ultimate rule as the Vallade House and the Ithlond House attempt to grasp absolute power. While most denizens follow the Old Ways and the Vallade, their are some who whisper of how Ithlond's ideals are more agreeable. And as the treachery between the divided Houses, the Diviners begin to speak of ill omens and a shadow which is extending its arm out for the Kingdom of Skyfall, intent on swallowing all life on Gaia.

So tell me, Adventurer, are you adamant in your decision to step foot upon the soils of Gaia's Realms, or have you now grown enough conscious to believe that it is best to turn your back on this world?

Ebony stared at the empty beach, wondering how exactly she would be returned back to civilization. She felt the Stone telling her that something waited in the water, something for her... as she set her eyes upon whatever laid beneath the water, she wondered if taking it would help the world as Ry'nn and the illusion believed or threaten it as that woman Sol had thought.

It was too late to turn back now, she knew. Ebony knelt into the water, keeping her head above the surface as she reached for and took hold of the shimmering object.

[color=black]Ebony’s hand wrapped around a most powerful and legendary staff:

Maelstr the Waker Staff
Maelstr is one of the seven legendary weapons that shaped the world of Gaia as it is today. It was wielded long ago by a woman known as The Gate Keeper; Solara Siegmund. It hums with a great power over the water element. It is a staff that gave Gaia the Emyrean Sea and had trapped a great foe within the sea.

The staff is made from a strange material of which the knowledge has died with Those Who No Longer Roam. It is approximately three feet in length and it is not made of metal or wood but of stone. It is not heavy as one would assume but very light for its Bearer. One cannot become the Bearer of Maelstr unless it is won fairly in a dual or if it decides to give itself to another.

The staff is colored several different hues of blue and green ranging from sea-foam and almost white to midnight blue and almost black. The colors are ever swirling and changing as the sea. It almost seemed as if a part of the sea is trapped within the staff itself but maybe it is a trick of the eye …

The staff will take whatever form that the Bearer wishes and is extremely malleable to their mind and Will. It is a very compromising weapon and yielding but as with the sea, Maelstr can be very fickle and rage unexpectedly. The staff grants elemental power over water and not just in being able to manipulate it. The wielder is able to conjurer water at his or her whim through the use of very little Will. The power of the Empyrean Sea lays at the hands of the Bearer which is great and powerful.

And yet there is always weakness that comes with weapons of power. The Bearer will become far more susceptible to fire magic and if used for a very long period of time, even the sun’s rays will become too much to bear. Maelstr also bonds very strongly with its Bearer’s emotions and eventually, their emotions will become one entity, and Maelstr will have partial control over its Bearer’s

Lifting the object out of the water, Ebony looked at the magnificent staff she held. This had to be what she had come for, what the Water Stone had led her to. She started out of the water, walking through it almost as if it were air. "This must have some power over water," she said to herself, staring at the staff. She looked towards the ocean, looking around the island. "Now, how do I get back? Which direction do I even go in?" Ebony decided that she should have asked that before she had taken the staff; now, she wasn't sure how was the best use of the staff's power to get herself off of the island.

Pointing the staff at the water, Ebony tried to manipulate it. She tried to push aside the water, make some sort of path. She closed her eyes to concentrate, and when she opened them again, she was startled to see that the water was parting wide enough for her to walk through. Even if she could do such, Ebony thought, would she even need to? Perhaps she could even walk on the water, or have it propel her... the possibilities with this magical artifact seemed to be unlimited.

Saxom was left standing on the dock, rope in hand. He rolled his eyes with a sigh. Some people…

Well, the sooner he started the sooner he finished. He gripped the rope tightly and hopped of the dock. His body flew through the air as he swung on the rope, bringing his knees to his chest. When he felt the bottom of his feet impact the side of the ship he started his climb.

When he slid over the banister onto the deck of the ship he lay flat on his back. “Aha, I did it!” He laughed loudly, trying to make a spectacle of himself to entertain the others. “Although I dint have much choice really! Fallin to my death woulda put a really dent in my life plans!”

The man frowned, and then shook his head. "I won't be able to pay you and your captain then, How do you expect me to find my way to the Empire's borders through the sea, you expect me to swim?" He said, looking out to one of the Zeppelins.

"What have I gotten myself into, out of the frying pan and into the fire..."

Koufan slid further into the crow's nest, only the top of his hood visible from the deck. He was surprised that he'd been able to remain inconspicuous for so long, considering that humans were so distrusting of others. He chalked it up as a point for alcohol, nothing more. Especially considering how the woman had reacted the last time she'd seen him.

He closed his eyes and listened to the conversation below, however, wondering why she was choosing to set down in the Empyrean, rather than anywhere else.

Medya made a face at Jess as she turned back towards the other side of the boat. "I'm not talking to myself, I'm talking to..you know, what, never mind. You probably wouldn't understand it, even if I did explain it. Have fun with your man over there." Of course, all of this was mostly under her breath. Medya strolled towards the crow's nest, figuring she'd take the high view. She liked high places, and thus flew up towards the 'nest. As she reached the peak, she noticed a hooded figure, who she didn't recall boarding. Then again, original drunken Medya had been in control, and so she didn't remember much, period. "Hey there, stranger. What brings you to our wonderful ship?" Along with this overly sweet statement, Medya - Dee - prepared her both of her arms with the dark and light energy she used to fight.

Axinn gazed upwards towards his fellow Alneh. He had no clue who he was here for. But who ever it was, it was the Highmourn family's will, and he would not interfere. A smile crept to his lips, almost tangible. The wind felt glorious, he had to admit. He missed the storm of the Alneh Sanctum. Powerful, long-lasting, destructive, and yet beautiful.

"Good. While I have no intention of leaving any time soon, I do have a horse to attend to, and I really don't have associates that would come check on him if I was absent. As you said yourself, Jess Thresher, people do not take kindly to my kind."

Koufan pulled himself from his thought as the woman landed beside him, a pair of wings slowly fading away from her back. He thought she seemed familiar, something in the way she held herself, but he couldn't place it immediately, and thus it was put from his mind.

"Just a vagabond, nothin' more. Tryin' tah see the world a'fore my years catch me." He adopted the accent quickly, hoping to cover his native Alneh accent and keep himself above question, though it wouldn't matter much if his skin showed. He scooted over, making enough room for her in case she decided to sit with him.

"Yer free tah join me, if'n yah wan'ned to."

The first mate released the helm and began to shrug off her weaponry. Various smoke bombs dropped from inside the sash tied loosely around her hips. The sheath to her short sword came next and then Jess took off her gun holster. Unexpectedly, the pirate also released O’ulre and allowed it to fall onto the pile near her feet.

Honestly. Where did the woman hide everything? A few more knives dropped from underneath the sash as she took that off as well and hung it from the helm. Jess Thresher—notorious Gaian pirate—was left unarmed and only held a bottle of rum.

A faceless crew member came to her side and took the ship’s control with a simple gesture made from the woman.

“Don't ye worry. I shall get ye close t' th' border,” Jess said to the man in red and waved a dismissive hand. “I got business t' attend t' first afore we land at sea. Medya! keep a weather eye out. This one be new at th' helm!” Without even turning her eyes onto the Alneh at her side, Jess started to grope for a piece of his clothing at chest level as if attempting to grab him.

Dee-Medya stopped gathering her energy as the man began to speak. She seemed to recognize him, at least, drunken Medya in the back of her-their head said that he was familiar. In any case, his statement along with the recognition probably counted for something. She gave Koufan a wink. "Sorry bout that. I thought you might've come to hurt someone on the ship. What a ridiculous idea, eh? But a vagabond, huh? I can appreciate that." She stretched a bit before throwing an answer back to Jess. "Yes, yes, Mate Jess. I will do exactly that! Don't be too loud down there, now!" Dee-Medya gave a small snicker and settled down next to Koufan. "Hey, you don't mind keeping watch out for me, right? I'm gonna take a break. It's been a hard night." With that, she lied back against the wood and immediately fell asleep.

Well, there was his opening and the chance to succeed. Why wait? As Jess busied herself with Axinn, he made his way up the stairs to the helm. The moment the two would step away from the pile, he would spring into action. He just hoped the fall wasn't too long, because he planned to jump right over the edge after he grabbed that damn weapon.

For now, though, he leaned against a crate and watched Jess, Axinn and Saxom and waited for them to move off away from his prize.

Axinn almost snickered, as he had no clothes on his chest to grab, aside from the diagnol belt of throwing daggers. He helped guide her hand however, as he had nothing better to do. His mind was eerily calm, considering how most of his race would react. If the Cloak was watching him, he had no doubt that he was disgusted with Axinn. Not that he honestly care however. Anniversary of Birth. Time to celebrate. Make merry. Or in this case, as a human would say, 'Make Jess Thresher.' His smile only grew wider.

Koufan smiled under his cloak as Medya not only joined him, but promptly fell asleep. That was one less problem to worry about. He stood and looked down to the deck, only to see Axinn being more forward with a human than he should be. A disgrace to his name, and his people, but it wouldn't matter much. If things worked out, the woman would stick to him, and all Koufan would have to do then is convince them to come back to Alneh for a bit.

He stepped over the railing, however, and scurried down the rigging, a new target set in his head. The cloakless man had piqued his attention, something that only seemed to happen when others of his style, thieves, beggars, assassins, and whores, became to anxious to finish their jobs. He approached the man and smiled, his face still hidden.

"You're too eager, friend," he whispered, making it loud enough so that only the other man would hear.

Finally, they had gone. The sooner he finished and left, the better. He really wasn't a people person and he didn't plan to stay on this ship any longer than necessary.
As he stepped towards the pile to take the dagger, however, he seemed to be cut off by the man who had just approached him.

"It is none of your business, friend," he whispered back. "I have something to do which is far too important for me to care about being 'eager', or whatever you want to call it."

He then made to brush past the man, fully expecting to be let through.

Saxom rolled his eyes with a sigh and ran a hand through his hair.

To have acted in such a demeaning way only to be ignored, insulting. He shook his head and ignored it. He had a job to do. He stood at the helm and looked over the pile of weapons.

Yes…one of them was here. He knew it to be certain. He was one of the few who knew the truth, learned from Sol herself.

He noticed the Precursor anxiously move towards the blade. While normally he’d simply walk away, seeing as they were on the same side, Saxom’s pride as Warden had been wounded by these pirates, and he would not return to Sol empty handed.

The blade would slide across the ground, through the other weapons and rise slowly into the air beside him. He threw the Precursor a grin before walking to the edge of the ship, the blade following him closely.

Seeing how little heed the man had taken, Koufan went to hold onto his arm. It was a weak attempt to hold the man back, but the mild paralytic poison that coated his skin would at least leave residue, if not begin to affect the seemingly weaponless man.

"Anything dealing with that woman is my business, as are her belongings." He looked at the pile, only to watch one of the daggers slide across the deck and rise into the air beside Saxom.

Syros felt himself being held back, albeit more lightly than he expected. Well, it seemed like this one would attempt to stop him and that was something he would no- wait, now what was happening? The dagger was being manipulated by the other man, who threatened to take it off the ship?

Immediately, light glistened brightly, reflecting off sparkles of floating crystals besides him before the legendary Titan spear materialized in his right hand, blade-end embedded in the deck and a small sudden force of wind pushing outwards.

With a tug, he pulled it from the wooden plank floor and tried to force his way from Koufan's grip, while leveling his spear out to point at Saxom threateningly.

"Give me the dagger," he warned, while unbeknownst to him the paralytic poison would slowly begin to take effect, threatening to make his movements slow and unnecessarily difficult.

Far away in the Skyfall Citadel, The Gate Keeper was holding the bed sheets that The Precursor had used only hours before. Tears glittered in her eyes and she held them close to her breast. He had left her. Syros had left Sol alone after being apart from each other for thousands of years.

The powerful woman gathered her energy and the sigil of The Gate Keeper formed above her head. Sol was doused in a beautiful ray of soft light and she disappeared from The Dwarven Stout’s room.

On the deck of The Wench’s Trident, the manifested magic motes which floated around the ship began to take shape silently …

“See you later, Precursor.” Saxom would smile as the being readied his weapon, all the while just giving time for The Warden to reach the banister. “I shall at least mention to Sol you assisted me in it’s retrieval. Ta.”

He simply leaned back over the banister, falling through the air, the dagger darting after him.

If they were to watch his shrinking figure, they would notice wings sprout from his shoulders, wings that glistened in the star’s light.

Wings made of metal.
