"My father names me Gabriel. Taylor was a name I hid behind, a name I was forced into by Andrea so that my father wouldn't uproot what we had created"

Taylor stepped towards her, placing a hand against her cheek. He lifted her chin slightly, thumb grazing the space below her eyes. He gathered the tears to the side.

"I haven't grown up, not at all. I tried to, but I never knew who I was. I never had the time. I built off of foundation that never existed. And in the end, Im not sure that you did either." He slid his hand to the back of her neck, tracing circles against her skin.

"And now I look back at who i became since Andrea died, and I cant help but think that it's not me. The difference was back then, you were so strong. So stuck in your beliefs. You kept me anchored. It was selfish of me to bestow that duty upon you, but I did. And then I came back and you had collapsed under the pressure. Something any other girl would of done years ago."

He sat, attempting to pull her down to sit beside him. If reached over her, pulling the corner of the bed's comforter over her lap. He laid his hand against her knee to keep it there.

"What we had. What we still have deep down, under all the rubble. I know I still love you." He gazed down, opening the palm of his free hand and gazing at the long formed grooves. "I told Enzo no. I know you told me I could, but I dont want to. I think I convined myself that I was the kind of person for that, but I wasnt. That was Andrea, not me."

"Here and back. There and suddenly gone." she said, sitting by him obediently, with her hands resting on her thighs, but she didn't look at him. She couldn't look at him now, when every part of her was so thoroughly shattered.

"I'm not strong enough to try to fix this, Taylor." she said finally, her eyes slipping closed as she shifted to hug her abdomen.

"I need to know I can survive on my own, without relying on someone, and without someone relying on me. I can't handle that kind of responsibility anymore. I can barely keep myself from going off the deep end."

She took a shuddering breath.

"I have to heal. I have to get away from Eden, from the bar...from you. It reminds me of everything painful in my life, how I worked so hard for nothing. No recompense. It ground me into a grave I didn't have the satisfaction of being buried in."

Taylor gazed at the ground, hiding his expression. He didnt speak for a few moments. Part of him knew this was coming. She'd shown the signs; Taylor was never the answer to her problems, he was the problems themselves. He rose a hand, now gathering the tears that began below his own eyes. He sat, shoulders lose, arms collapsed into his lap.

"I don't want to lose you, Liz. Eden was never my home. The bar was never mine. I just felt that-"

He paused. Excuses would do him no good, nor would they her.

"But I dont want you to hurt any more."

She stood too, looking after him with an expression that was more than sad. There was an agony there, an abject fear. She was forcing herself to be lonely, now, breaking off the only thing she'd had the need to live for these last few years.

All on a chance that she might find strength within herself, to get away from all of this and move on.

"You don't want to keep me, as I am." she said quietly. "I'm not the girl you fell in love with, Taylor. I thought I could build something for myself by learning to love you, by fighting for you, but it just...it didn't work. You were gone, and I fell apart. You're here, and it isn't filling the void. I don't know what can, or what will."

More tears, and she was staring at the floor.

Don't you understand? I want to be happy with you. I just can't continue to pretend that everything is alright. I'm not strong enough."

Taylor stood, hands dug deep into the pockets of his jeans. His chin remained pressed firmly against his chest for a moment. His breathing was audible, painful. His heart beat rhythmically against his chest. He inhaled sharply, shaking his head swirly to rid himself of the tears.

He gazed up.

It handnt worked.

Tears strolled down his cheek, clinging desperately to the underside of his chin. "Take me with you." His voice trembled.

She was startled, her chest seizing when she saw the emotion written across his face. She didn't start towards him, and the tears didn't begin afresh.

"I wanted you to stay with me." she told him. "I never wanted you to leave. I never wanted for us to be apart, but you left anyway. And now I get my chance. Now I want to go, and you want to follow."

Her breaths came faster.

"You've only needed me with you as long as you think you've needed me. Even if I said yes, now, it would only be as long as you would want it to happen."

She shook her head, backing up a step.

"I gotta be my own person, Taylor."

"That's not true, Liz. I've always needed you. I left because I thought I had to. I left because I thought I owed something to Andrea, to the people. THe people who accepted my death and moved on without so much as a second though. I had thought that they desserved as much of me as you did, but they didnt. They never did."

He bit at his lower lip, attempting again to gather his tears. "Can we try? One last time, Liz?"

He paused, taking a breath.

"If you need to leave though, leave me, I'll understand."

She closed her eyes, biting on her lower lip as her hands reached to remove a chain from around her neck, a chain that had always held her wedding ring.

She balanced it in her hand, before walking to him and taking his fingers into hers.

"This isn't an end," she told him. "...but a beginning. I'll be leaving soon. I don't know where. But I'll keep in touch if you want."

She didn't look at him, not until the last moment.

"You'll find someone, Taylor. Someone better than me. Saner. More whole."

And she stepped around him.

"I'm so sorry."

Taylor didn't say a word. His teeth dug deeper into his lip, tears welling at his eyes. He took a step back as she moved around him, collapsing onto the bed. He sat there, hunched over a closed fist. The ring rested in the palm of his hand, digging a circle into his palm. He loved her so much; More than anything. He'd lived these past four years, happy and somewhat sane, because of Liz. He was certain he'd love no woman like her, and now she was gone.

He cried. He sobbed. Face buried in his arms. All those times he had lost her, It wasnt his choice. it wasnt hers. He could take solace in the fact that both of them, despite the circumstances, yearned to be close to one another. That even if they couldnt be together, it was out of their hands. But not this time.

No.

Not this time.

She'd left him, and rightfully so. He sat in that room, not thinking of anything but her. Searching for some solution, some reason to live other than Liz.

He found none.

Sonja paced the hotel room restlessly, checking and rechecking the plasma pistol in hand. She went to the window and looked out, the situation out there had yet to abate. Gunfire and shouts filled the streets.

As a man shouted from the doorway, Sonja turned about. Try to defend herself, or take to the window. She was armed, but she was no marksman either and those men were trained military. Shoving the pistol back into her handbag, she slid the window open and shouldered the screen out. As the mesh gave, Sonja swung herself up and over the sill of the window onto the fire-escape.

She thanked the gods she hadn't worn heels today.

Feuer looked at the man who now came up the stairs. Since he was the rear guard his rifle remained pointed at the man now. His finger was off the trigger.

"We are capturing someone who is in league with our enemy. For questioning if you must know." Feuer said as he concentrated on the man while the other two operators kept their gaze down the hallway.

Wraith entered weapon raised as he moved left into the room, Geist moved right and shortly after Feuer was in moving left into the room behind Wraith. The room was cleared Wraith moving over to the opened window looking out.

"She shouldn't get to far." wraith said coldly his breath hanging in the hair.

"Yeah, sorry buddy, but you don't just get to do that," Jayden stated, "Preeetty sure kidnapping random people for being 'in league with your enemy' is against the law, or is that just me?"

The militiaman flicked a trigger on his visor, "Avita, is that illegal, or is it just me?"

"Unauthorised paramilitary operations are categorically illegal within Terran National Government territory." the robotic female voice replied.

"Yeah, I thought so. I'm gonna have to ask you guys to sto- HEY! I'm talking to you here!" Jayden yelled after Wraith.

The fire escape quickly began to cover with a coating of ice. The Russian had slipped the glove from his hand as he touched the railing of the fire escape. Soon the entirety of the metallic structure would be slick and a hazard for anyone trying to move on it.

Feuer looked back at the apparent militiaman. He rolled his eyes moving the sunglasses back onto his face from head.

"This is no longer a concern of yours. You can't even contain the strife as two foreign nationalities duke it out in the streets." The German looked over at Wraith who was now doing who knows what.

"Alright, if we're gonna play it that way..." Jayden muttered. "Fine! Have it your way. Bye!"

Jayden definitely couldn't get the better of these three in a firefight. There wasn't enough cover, and he probably wasn't as good a shot as they were. He didn't necessarily need to, though. Hoping that Feuer bought his bluff, the militiaman disappeared back down the stairs.

"Avita, bring the Eclipse in towards Main Street," he was muttering under his breath as he descended. He'd heard the window breaking from the other room and put two and two together - this chase was about to go outside.

Sonja made her way down the fire-escape at a hurried pace, leaving the hotel room empty for those that sought her. Her head-start left her safety reaching the ground as the fire escape iced up behind her, scarcely staying ahead of the slick surface. Once in the alley she pulled her phone out again while heading out into the streets at a low run. "Damn it, pick up," she muttered.

The streets were woefully devoid of cars, given the warzone they had turned into, but the brunt of the fighting had moved on elsewhere into the city for now.

Geist popped up on the 152 in the radio pouch on his carrier. He keyed in the radio from by the window.

"Captain, Inmate target is moving pull around the MRAP around outside by the alley. Be ready for contact." Geist let go of the button.

"Roger that Geist we'll be there in a few mikes. Places gone to shit down here." Captains voice could be heard with a bit of static minor explosions and shouts in the background.

Geist switched the channel again to a UHF with a havequick 2 tek. Before keying in his headset.

"Lord bring in the bird to hover around 50 mikes above the bar. Have Renegade on stand by for a jump." Geist got off the radio as he turned around.

[color=teal]Snow fell in piles. A few seconds of being stationary and they'd find their feet buried in cascading sheaths of frost. The two immortals, being sound in both body and mind, found difficulty in the journey; Yet their impediments were minor when compared to the heap of flesh that lingered behind them, shivering violently as he attempted to fend off both the snow and his every growing exhaustion.

And now it had come to a head. Taylor fell to his knees, panting heavily. The tears felt like ice against his bare skin. This trek would be difficult for any man, yet without inspiration it was near impossible. When he fell, nothing propelled him to stand back up. No voice on his shoulder fed him words of encouragement. It troubled him to live even under comfortable conditions, but this? This was too much to ask of the man.

It took Enzo and Claire a few moments to notice the man had collapsed into the snow. Only when his familiar panting went quiet did they realize something was afoul. They turned, skidding back down the stretch of snow and linking their arms under Taylor's. "Come on, Man, walk. We can't just sit out here." Enzo attempted to prod him into movement.

Taylor shook his head, cheeks blue and lips cracked. "What's the point of this all, Enzo?" Taylor whimpered, broken and tattered.

"Eden, Taylor. Dont do it for yourself, do it f-"

"Oh, Fuck Eden. What has that place done for me? Huh?" The man barked coarsely, his voice echoing through the mountain top. "I gave it my father. I gave it my brother. I gave it my god damn life and now look at me. Look at me, Enzo." He sobbed, hanging against his comrades pull. "Just leave me here, please. Let me rest, Enzo"

Claire looked towards the man, then Enzo. She parted her mouth, and Enzo met it with a swift shake of the head. "Come on Taylor, we cant do this. Not now. Night's falling."

The pair pulled him against a towering oak, removing their coats and placing them over the man. They clung together, tendi

ng to a small fire that struggled to remain lit. Claire pressed her hand against the now unconcious Taylor, feeling the cold that radiated from his skin. "I dont know if he can take all of this, Enzo. "

"He'll be fine Claire, we're only a bit away. Tomorrow we-"

"Thats not what Im talking about, Enzo, and you know it. The man just lost his brother, and now Li-"

"Dont say her name, Claire." Enzo interrupted. "I cant have him having more of his episodes. Its better that he forgets."

Claire hung her head. "I just dont know about all of this. I dont know if its right. He's given so much, can we really ask more of him?"

Enzo momentarily diverged his attention from the small heap of smoke and sparks. "This life isnt always fair, Claire. Eden needs a leader. It needs Taylor. This is always how it was going to end. Its his duty."

Claire attempted to shrink herself, pressing the side of her head against Taylor's shoulder. "I worry about him, Enzo..."

He nodded, patting the girls cheek. "Try and get some sleep, Claire. We still have nearly a week to go."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The journey took them a few more excruciating days. Taylor's episodes continued, yet they grew fewer and further apart. His sorrow turned to silence. They eventually reached the temple doors, Taylor's arm slung over Claire for support, his eyelids heavy.
