Setting
You see their, in the tornado, faces forever twisted into passionate and erotic expressions, driven and blown along by their desires, lustful and craven needs, base instincts the only emotion they not forever feel.
- Sin: The souls stuck in circle two fell into the desires of lust.
- Punishment: These souls are blown about by the terrible winds of a violent storm, without any hope of rest.
- Contrapasso: They had been swept away by their dark desires and now they are being swept away by a storm needlessly and aimlessly.
- Sinners: There are quite a few named specifically in this circle. A few of those are Cleopatra who reigns supreme here, Helen of Troy, Achilles, Paris, and Tristan. Dante also talks to a couple, Francesca and Paolo. The couple sticks out to Dante because they are attached side to side and cant ever separate for eternity. Francesca tells Dante that the two were reading a story and couldn't resist each other and her husband and Paolo's brother, Giovanni, caught them and murdered them both.
You try to hurry out of here, afraid to become like these aberrations of people, no matter how they flaunt and moan, you know to leave, leave now. The winds cling and claw to pull you into the deep typhoon of Lust, eroticism and intimate desires, yet to succumb would be to enter that tornado and end up like the victims so lost in carnal desires they no longer realize this is a punishment. You are ushered towards the towering structure, despite it seeming just as horrid as being swept away.
