Miles Hagan silently sat at his desk within the massive towering building that was Tech Con HQ. He was going over some paperwork and breathing a heavy sigh as he went over papers. "I'm too old for this." He said, sliding the paperwork away from him and pouring himself a cold glass of Ambrosia. "This will help some." He said, downing the liquid before his intercom chimed. "Yeah... send the shipments, I'll sign off on them tomorrow." Hagan said to the receptionist, before he leaned back and swiveled the chair to face the plains of Leonis, which seemed to stretch for miles outside Luminere.

Dominic Hagan stood ambivalently outside Miles' office, his hands entrenched the pockets of his suit jacket. He looked up at the massive door before him as if it were a daunting giant to be slain. In a way, it was. Walking into this room was going to be a challenge. After ten years of leave... ten years of pointedly ignoring his family and neglecting his responsibilities, Dominic was back and about to confront the very man he'd run away from. He wasn't sure what to expect right about now. What would his father say? How would he treat his prodigal son? His return to Caprica had been all over the news last week... surely he'd had some time to think it over.

Dominic sighed, straightening his tie and smoothing over his hair. No more uncertainty. It was time to resolve the past.

He knocked three times on the door before he entered, closing the door behind him.

"...hey dad."

Miles Hagan rocked back and fourth in the plush leather chair, the massive window overlooking the Leonisian city played out before him. Miles had visibly aged in his years since Dominic had seen him. There was a lavish and ornate cane sitting, idly leaned against the man's desk, and the smoke wafting up from a fumerello filled the office with it's aroma.

The Chair continued to rock before the voice on the other side spoke up. "Ten years and you finally show yourself. For all I knew you were dead... of course, dead men don't spend money that isn't theirs." He commented, taking another puff on his fumerello.

"You should have stayed in Caprica, or rather you should have pissed off to gods know where." He said, rocking back still.

"Did you enjoy your little run about?" He said, still not bothering to turn.

"I want you to understand something. I built this company from the ground up, with my own hands. I had the intention of building this Empire so I could provide for my family.. But where was my family when I needed them?"

"Dad..." Dominic stepped forward tentatively, "...look, just here me out? Please?" His stomach lurched. Miles wasn't even looking him in the eye.

"I know," he began slowly, "you must be angry seeing me here, like this. Any father would if their son abandoned them for a decade. I was hurt and psychologically destroyed by my mother's death, but that doesn't excuse what I did. I left you. I left Julia. I left my home. I shirked my responsibilities and wasted a fortune. I deserted my family and betrayed their love and support with arrogance." A deep, lingering pause. "And for that, I am sorry."

Dom drew a thoughtful breath. "I thought getting away would help me reconcile with the pain of mom's murder, but all I was really trying to do was bury it. No amount of liquor, parties, education or intergalactic adventure could help me cope with what happened to me some fifteen years ago. I know that now. I've seen the truth. Believe or not, I LEARNED something out there." He nodded adamantly. "That's why I'm here. I've come back because I want to make things right. I want to start fresh with the company and with my family. I want to work hard for what I earn and make you proud."

He shrugged. "All in all, I just want to be your son again."

Miles Hagan slowly turned to face Dom, slowly he reached for the bejeweled cane and he used it to support his rise, bones creaking and he visibly leaned on the ornate support. "The Belkans did this to me." He said flatly, before he started to approach the boy. "I spent three years in a Belkan labor camp, plotting and bribing my way out. Where was my son then?" He said slowly.

"Where was my son when Laura Roslin, UCON, and the Ministry of the Interior pulled my company out from under me? And appointed some pathetic puppet?" He said, hobbling over to the other.

"Where the frak was my son, when this company nearly went under because he couldn't control his frakking spending!?" Miles shouted.

"We're not the big dogs on the block anymore, We've got competition. You say you want to be my son again? Well prove it. Because I'm not going to be around forever and someone needs to run this company..."

He turned back to Dom.

"Preferably not into the frakking ground."

"All I want is a chance to prove myself," Dominic nodded, bearing his father's venomous quips with humble dignity. "I know I haven't been here for the family. Like I said, I'm ready to make it up to you. Start me anywhere. Mail boy. Coffee runner. I'll do it. I'm ready to work hard and do honest labor for my keep. The days of me mooching off the success of the family is over."

He took a step forward. "Just give me a chance, dad. Please. I'm a new man. Let me prove it to you."

Miles Hagan huffed. "I have half a mind to have you assembling Disruptor rifles for the rest of your life." He said, shaking his head. "I need someone to run this Company, I need a Hagan, not some pathetic knockoff." He said, signing a handful of papers on his desk. "So here's what's going to happen. I've got five hundred billion cubits in a personal investment account of mine." He said, finishing his signature.

"I'm going to buy an island somewhere in the Aries Ocean, build a mansion, and live out my days stress free." He said, shoving an envelope in Dom's chest.

"However, This company doesn't run itself. Don't disappoint me, because I'm not bailing you or this company out. It's your problem now, I'm washing my hands of this."

Initially, Dom was speechless. His first day back, and already Miles was handing the reigns over to him, just like that? Great Juno. This had escalated far more quickly then he could have imagined...

...but then it donned in Dom. "I'm going to buy an island somewhere in the Aries Ocean, build a mansion, and live out my days stress free." ... "It's your problem now, I'm washing my hands of this."

Miles wasn't doing any sort of favor for his son. He was unloading a burden. Hagan didn't want anything to do with Tech Con anymore. So be it. If running the entire company was what it took to win back his father's respect, Dominic would do it.

"I won't fail you," he said firmly, "but what about Julia? Is she going to be with me on this?"

Miles Hagan shrugged. "I haven't seen or heard from her in yahrens." He said, looking to the paper, then starting towards the door. "There's a clause in that contract that if you frak this up and I have to retake the company, that you will have to repay every Denarius you spent." He said, starting towards the door. "Better start earning that fortune back." He added.

"I've got some rounds to make with the boys in RDA, When you get done here, Come out to Knight Island, it's where I plan to build my mansion."

Dominic Hagan turned to Miles as he prepared to take his leave.

"That won't be necessary," he assured his father, "I know what I'm doing here. For all my reckless partying, I DID do quite a bit of studying around the Multiverse. As I'm sure you gathered from the news, I have several degrees from ranking schools in the Milky Way. I even nabbed a few with the Taiyou before our diplomacy got shot to hell." He smiled.

Dominic looked back to the desk; the papers lining the wood, the chair waiting to be filled. He looked towards his father; crippled with age and wounds, just trying to live the remainder of his life in peace.

"Dad I uh..." he called out, stumbling with his words for the first time since he walked in. His tone was quiet and uncertain. "...I love you. I know that's hard to believe but. Yeah. I do."

Miles Hagan nodded. "Your mother would have wanted you in that chair." He said, leaning against the wall. "The Current Guatrau has sent his regards, and the Guatrau that ordered the hit on your mother.. well. Guatrau says to visit him on Hadante one of these days, he said you should have proper retribution to the man who killed your mother. The woman I intended to marry." He said, starting out the door before pausing.

"I... I love you too, son..."

He cleared his throat.

"Make me proud." And with that, he was out the door.

Dominic Hagan smiled, drawing a deep breath as the Miles closed to the door to office... to HIS office. He turned towards the chair, running his hands along the dark wood of the desk before planting himself in the seat. For a moment, he was silent, glaring at the various papers and files as if they were old friends.

He nodded once.

"Alright. Time to get to work."

Stahl rather wished that he wasn't here, but he was chosen because of his talents, and the ability to be completely anonymous. Odd, this feeling, being dressed in a uniform that wasn't your own and wearing a face that you'd have to remember simply because it was unmemorable.

Needless to say, this wasn't what he signed up for, but it meant that he could spend more time with his family, and away from the ranks of the infantry. A few more jobs like this and his retirement would be in the bag. The trick was just pulling it off.

For being a shapeshifter, he wasn't very good at impersonating things.

The Director however, was, and he was keeping an eye on the fellow with him, an equally nondescript face, completely unmemorable. The Director would never be able to retire, not like Stahl, and did jobs like this more for the thrill than anything else. Still, dressed as a renegade Erutin, he was enjoying this all too much. They had news for Miles Hagan, concerning his daughter, they had informed the secretary. Grave news.

Miles Hagan had been long sitting at his desk, going over a few last minute paperwork and shaking his head. He was prepared to hand the entire company over to his lazy degenerate son. And all it took was a few signatures and notifications.

"Well, at least after this I can go hide somewhere in my own private island and forget about all this." Hagan said, pulling up a computron screen and inspecting the text that was scrolling on his screen.

"Goodbye, You've always been there through thick and thin, Tech Con."

Hagan's secretary wasn't very keen on letting either of them inside at first, though a secondary warning from Stahl, accompanied with a hint of physical encouragement, made the woman buckle. The door opened to reveal the two Erutin, otherwise normal save that they wore a uniform vastly different from that which the forces of the Greater Hegemony wore.

They were rebels.

Stahl lead the way, even if fictitiously the other was his superior. Hell, the other was likely his real superior as well and he just didn't know it. Whatever. He was simply here to talk, and he didn't complain with such a simple job.

"Good day, mister Hagan."

This was fun. The Director joined Stahl and Hagan inside his office, closing the door behind him after ensuring the secretary could never all for aid again. A messy, if silent and quick task, the body hidden under her own desk, so casual view would make it seem like she had stepped out for coffee or the restroom, instead of the truth.

"This shouldn't take up much of your time Mr. Hagan." The Director spoke, placing a picture of Julia, tied to one of the chairs in her cell, on his desk. "I believe we have something that belongs to you."

Miles Hagan looked up from his Computron and he was silent for a moment. "Can I help you?" He said, hands discreetly moving to a small button under his desk. He never truly trusted the Belkans since he had been in their Care, and he trusted the Erutin even less. But perhaps he would hear these two out. His finger only slightly hovering over the small silent alarm under his desk. The city of Luminere, Leonis playing out behind him.

"Sure must have been pretty difficult to come all the way here from the Hegemony. Though I'm sure our open borders with Belka has helped."

When his eyes met the picture, they narrowed as he looked up to them, and then Julia. His eyes had promptly widened.

"By the gods..."

"What do you want? Money, Weapons? Name your price! I just want my daughter to be safe!"

The younger one raised a finger, biting his lip as he did, waiting until the man had stammered out his desperate plea, which he really wasn't interested in hearing. "Sir-... Sir. Please. Can we keep a civil tone?" His own pleading was likely useless, but Stahl had manners beaten and drilled into him. Of course Julia was there, but she was still under some of the influence applied by the psychics, and really didn't know what was going on to begin with. Mostly just a matter of proof if nothing else.

"We are not aligned with the Greater Empire, mister Hagan." If anything, that was why they decided to strike at Julia. "We wouldn't be after you if we were." Indeed, there were other targets that the Empire considered a bigger threat.

"Our demands will come in due time, give us a chance to speak our piece." He nodded to the Director at that, smiling as he did. "We are but a small sliver of the old guard. That which was, before the Belkans came."

Indeed, some part of him did pity them, and sympathize with them, but he didn't delude himself. "We look to fight the Empire however we can, but needless to say the fight is... far from fair." Indeed.

"It drives us to dire lengths, as you can see."

The Director shrugged at this and smiled. "She's fine, and relatively happy is very angry that we won't let her go, or let her fulfill her every whim." As if. "She's also fed well, so don't worry about her suffering. You see, as my associate said, we need some aid in regaining our empire, and not with this...false empress claiming to be empress Wing."

Empress Wing would never, ever submit to such a base thing as joining another empire after all. It would not do. "Your people have a weapon that we believe will be of great help to us. We want it, ad the blue prints to make more of it with."

Nothing major. Of course now.

Miles Hagan leaned back. "Wait, let me get this straight.. You want me to help you fight the Belkan Hegemony? But.. That would mean Treason, Heresy! I can't help you fight them, the Divine Shadow.. He.. He would have me executed for Heresy!" Hagan stammered.

He then swallowed hard. "And what weapon... is this you speak of?" He said, leaning forward, ever tempted to press the button at his desk, and flood the room with Mercenaries.

Stahl rolled his eyes at that, smiling as he did. "Mister Hagan, you'd hardly be helping us. If your Divine Shadow is really as divine as he claimed, then surely he is omnipotent, and understands the difference between willfully funding an insurgent group and being forced to." The Erutin glanced at Julia.

"All I am asking you for are blueprints, mister Hagan. MAC cannons. Our worlds are few and precious, and the Belkans look to claim every one in the name of that whore on the throne." The would-be rebel turned his attention back to Hagan, away from his daughter. "We want to kill them before they can even see us."

"True. You're not doing it willingly, Hagan. And I would suggest not calling your security. Otherwise, your daughter won't be returned to you." The director put her hand on Julia's picture

"MAC cannons. The blue prints, and a single cannon. Surely that's worth the price of your child." If not, then he knew the girl would be killed.

Miles Hagan scoffed, and shook his head. "What's so special about MAC Guns that you'd hold my daughter hostage for them? I don't even have access to the blueprints for those." He said, his expression darkening. "Our orbital MAC Platforms are designed and built by Aerospace Dynamics and Vergis Corporation, Tech Con lost the bid on that contract. Either way, handing the very thing that protects our homes to insurgents like yourself. The Divine Shadow would not be pleased... He'd have me killed for Heresy." It seemed that Hagan was caught in a hard position, Not having his life taken, or the life of his daughter. The man was visibly ill.

"I don't have the blueprints." He affirmed.

Like it really took that much to consider why. Stahl kept from scoffing himself in the act. "Because it could mean the difference between a viable Erutin state and a Belkan puppet government." But that didn't seem to resonate with the man, and neither did it that his daughter was in danger. "Perhaps then the value of your daughter is so minimal, Hagan, that you wouldn't fight to protect her."

Of course, a man of his magnitude and ability could produce such things without much trouble.

"We shouldn't bother you any longer then, wasting both our time and yours."
