Notice: OPEN AGAIN!

ImageThe Den, as apply named, is a local den house for a pack of urban werewolves led by a man who goes by the name of Baron.

The stench of booze, tobacco, and cigarette smoke are thick in the air, and the place has a rugged, and weathered feel to it.

Like most of the urban packs, Baron's wolves have staked out a decent sized territory within Vargeras, and though The Den doesn't maintain a strict guest list at the door, members of other packs are liable to be met with hostility.

The den house also doubles as a bar; however, humans though allowed, might find service difficult if they aren't good at blending into the rugged atmosphere that is The Den.

Minor brawls and pack spats are relatively common place here, though mind the furniture lest Baron get involved. One should also note that pack law bars the use of weapons with settling internal spats between pack members.

Several days later...

Baron was behind the bar fishing out a bottle of whiskey to pour himself a glass, and only vaguely payed much mind to the goings on within the room.

The Den wouldn't be open for another three hours, but the establishment served as a general hangout for the pack, and it was rare that it was empty even when it wasn't yet opened for customers.

Bastien and Jacques where currently engaged in a game of pool, while Ulrich was waiting his turn to have a go at the winner. So far the game seemed fairly level, and it could go either way.

"I don't remember you being this good," Bastien noted dryly as he leaned on his pool cue and waited his turn.

"I play on the weekends," Jacques answered. "How's your kid?"

"Better," Bastien answered.

The conversation droned in the background as Baron sipped his drink.

Jeanne never did expect herself to come back in. She'd said she would, made comments about it to Iago, but she didn't think she was serious.

But here she was, poking her head into The Den, looking for Baron. It had been a particularly long day at work, and the previous night speaking to the children had given her a headache. She needed to wind down- something she rarely did. It's not as though the boys at the office wanted to run into her at a bar.

Almost sheepishly, she smiled at Baron once she'd spotted him, and glanced around at everyone else as she approached him.

"Opened early today?" she asked, smirking at him.

Suspicious eyes turned on Jeanne as she entered, and a few even murmured quietly before turning back to what they had been doing before she arrived. Baron's eyes never looked away though and they followed her as she approached him.

"Not for a few hours," Baron answered as he took another sip of his drink. "Do you play?" he asked as he gestured to the pool tables. There was a wolfish gleam to his eyes as he watched her intently.

The detective lifted her chin as she took a gander at the pool tables, hands coming to her hips. She ran her tongue along her teeth in a grin. "It's been a while. I might need a little refresher," she said, giving him a sidelong glance.

He finished his drink and set the glass down before making his way to the tables where he picked up a pool cue and tossed it to Jeanne. He never played with the pack, and his presence at the tables was a bit unusual, but he remained seemingly uncaring of the eyes that lingered upon them.

Outside The Den...

Chloe sighed and looked at the window. "I'm trying to keep this stuff a secret from Bowen.." She murmured. "The meeting, and the pack runs.. I have the feeling.. He wasn't too happy with Baron when he came to pick me up.. He had Claire there.." She shivered at the thought of Claire. She had seen that woman practice with guns. Claire never missed. "I don't think Bowen would approve of the stuff with your pack at all.. That's why I had you pick me up away from the office.."

"If there's anyone who can take care of 'imself, 'tis Baron," Desmond reassured Chloe. "Besides, it was me idea," he added with a wink. "An' Baron, he just doesn't want anyone else 'urt 'til you 'ave a bit more control of yourself. None of us want anythin' but for you to get better."

While they spoke, Desmond pulled into the small lot out back of The Den. It was earlier enough in the day that it was vacant of cars except for a handful of pack members that frequently hung out at the bar during the day before it opened to customers in the evening.

He recognized Baron's truck, and a few others as he pulled up next to Bastien's car and put his own into park.

"The place doesn't open for a few 'ours yet, so there'll be no one to worry about 'urtin' except me pack mates, an' they're used to it," he jested lightly.

Chloe frowned slightly. "I really hope I don't get bitey then.." She said, half serious.

"To be honest.. Things have gotten worse.." She added meekly. She didn't explain further though, so she unbuckled and slid out of the car, closing it behind her.

"You think they'll allow me in, then?" She asked.

"Course they 'ill. You're wi' me today. An' what do you mean worse?" he asked.

He got out of the vehicle and closed the door, but he didn't head towards the bar yet. He imagined she'd rather discuss it out here before being immersed into a room of strangers.

She paused and shifted uncomfortably where she stood. "I'm.. Losing memory. Like the day I attacked you.. The night after Bowen picked me up.. We were making dinner and.." She shook her head. "Next thing I remember, I was in the cage, him shifted and not doing so well.." She looked away her eyes dark. "Apparently we had sat down to dinner and everything before I shifted..."

"An' you never used to forget things before?" he asked.

"Not this bad." She said quietly. Other things had been happening, but she didn't feel the need to go into those details until she judged the reaction of this news.

Desmond could see the hesitation and uncertainty in her.

"'ey now, there's nothin' to be ashamed of," he reassured her. "Come on, we'll get some drinks an' talk about it."

She nodded her head. "Alright.." She murmured.

With that the pair headed inside the bar through the back door.

Inside The Den...

Desmond had led Chloe to one of the available tables, of which there where many at the moment. From there he had seen to putting some glasses out, and acquiring a pitcher of beer.

"So 'ow is this for a plan," he said as he joined her at the table. "We drink, we talk, we get drunk. We share some stories, an' then we drink some more."

The others in the bar mostly seemed occupied over at the pool tables, though there where a few other pack members lingering at the tables situated around the bar.

Chloe still seemed on edge as she entered the bar, her eyes taking in the faces around them. Some she recognized. Still, she sat down and seemed to relax some as soon as the pitcher of beer was placed on the table.

She pulled a chair out and spun it around so she sat in it backwards and grinned like a fox. "Sounds like a plan, honestly. I haven't done something like this in ages, honestly. Use to hang out with the guys every weekend we all had free.. Just to kick back and relax and jab each other's ears off all night.." She smiled fondly at the memories. "Never thought those days would end. Just goes to show me, eh?"

Desmond poured them each a glass from the pitcher before setting it back down.

"So tell me, 'ow long ago 'ave you started forgettin' things?" he asked. "An' is there anythin' else botherin' you?"

Memory lapses weren't particularly uncommon, especially those who where still learning to control their shifting. But it was a bit unusual for it to set in this late with no previous boughts of memory loss. Course, if it was a standalone incident it may not be cause for any concern. The girl had been through a lot lately.

"To be honest, I can't tell you exactly.. If I had any before we met, then I couldn't tell you..." She frowned slightly, taking a sip off the glass that she assumed was hers. "Just randomly, I suppose. I don't even know if I'm shifting. But the other day was the most obvious.. Was making dinner.. Then blank. Woke up in bed. Bowen said that even the wolf was acting weird. Didn't attack him, but did try to escape none the less..."

She paused for a moment. "And I don't remember between those two points of time.. That was nearly a week ago now. Since then, I randomly lose memory.. Will be at my desk at work.. The next thing I remember, I'm half way back to my old apartment which is only 15 minutes away.. But the memory lapse was more than 3 hours.." She whispered.

Her jaw clenched and she tried to hide it behind the beer glass as she drained a quarter of it in one sitting.

Jeanne swept the room in a glance, lips opening a sliver as she became fully aware of how intent the stares were upon them. She caught the cue without a problem, while slowly turning her head to catch Baron's eye. She leaned her head over slightly to indicate their company. His company. The... staring... company.

She supposed many of them remembered her face, and it certainly was unusual she'd come back to just hang out. It wasn't as if she'd been actively trying to shut down the Den, however. It wasn't her fault that Baron was keeping a woman in the basement.

Instead of shrinking away, Jeanne came up to the pool table and gave the bar that award-winning smile of hers. They wanted to stare?

That was fine.

Snow was seated to the side of the room, alone in a booth. Since Max's departure, it had become a common sight. Whilst there was no questioning that he was closely involved with the rest of the pack, during times of socialising he would seldom be found anywhere but the fringe. It wasn't a situation he was dissatisfied with - he'd long been the quiet and contemplative type, and he was happy with it.

A small glass of lemonade sat half-full on the table in front of him whilst he leaned back in his seat to watch the news playing on the TV above the bar. His attention was halfway divided between the report and the police officer Baron had brought back here. Other members of the pack were blatantly staring, but he kept his interest less obvious.

Still, regardless of her station and her involvement in Baron's arrest, if Baron had brought her here then she couldn't be that bad. Hopefully the others could play at law-abiding citizen while she was around.

His eyes wandered from that scene over to where Desmond had just entered, and he raised an eyebrow to see Chloe enter with him. He hadn't spoken to her since the pack meeting several weeks ago. After a moment of consideration, he grabbed his glass and stood, making his way over to them. He leaned against a table next to theirs and nodded a greeting to them.

"I don't think we've been properly introduced since I chained you to a chair," he said to Chloe, the corners of his mouth curling upwards in a small smile. "My name's Adair, but most people call me Snow."

Hugo kept to himself in another lonely booth in the room, reading a book. As he read, he thought to himself why he has such a desire to assist the pack in any way he could. For the longest time he wouldn't even show up at meeting places unless he was required to do so for an important gathering. However, the crippling loneliness finally got to him and he decided to show up here for once. Despite this, he kept to himself still, not knowing anyone in this room. He sighs, putting a bookmark in and closing the book with an audible noise, sliding it into his coat pocket. The glow of his deep blue eyes was slightly obscured by the round, dark shades he wore.

He stands up and decides to sit at the bar counter instead. He takes out a pocket watch that was thankfully not made of silver and opened it, showing a photo of him and his parents from days gone past. Closing it angrily, he cursed under his breath "What does it matter if I'm man or wolf? I was still their son. They sent a damn assassin after me." he muttered to himself. He grabs a beer and pours himself a glass, giving it a drink, shaking his head at the taste. "Mmph, no wonder I don't drink often." he chuckled slightly, but decides to finish the glass anyway. He thought he may have been a bit overdressed in his white collared shirt and purple coat, but it was all he had on him. Once he found a job he would probably purchase more casual wear. Glancing around the bar, he noticed many people in conversation, not sure who to talk to. He was still nervous about talking to anyone really. He wanted to find a cure, not get used to being in this pack, but he knew that it was for the best if he made at least one friend here.

Aimée was running late, per usual. Maybe one day, she would actually get somewhere on time, but that was probably not going to happen unless her roommate took it upon himself to make sure she got up. Of course, she would never ask him to do that, but maybe she would invest in yet another alarm clock. Apparently three just wasn’t enough for the sleepyhead. Snorting, she climbed into the back of a taxi cab, glad that it was someone that was used to taking her to The Den. As he drove, she crossed both legs so that she was sitting Indian style and did a little meditation. Did she care that if he looked in the rearview mirror, he would see her red lacy thong since she was wearing only her roommate’s t-shirt? No, she absolutely did not care. The bag beside her had the rest of her clothing that she would slip into once she got to the Den so that she could go out after and not have to worry about worrying her roommate.

The cabbie pulled up in front of the bar and paused long enough for her to pay him and get out of the vehicle. After thanking him for the ride, she jogged towards the back entrance, knowing that it would be open for the pack only. Her faintly wavy black locks fluttered against the sides of her bronze cheeks as she quickly entered the building. Her Chartreuse eyes peered around the hallway, noting that no one seemed to be around, which made sense since everyone was in the actual bar part of the place. Shrugging a little, she headed towards where everyone else was at, yawning a little despite it being so early.

Bastien and Jacques were already there, of course, and Aimée waved at the two of them before glancing towards the bar. Dropping her bag beside her on the counter, she moved around to grab a beer, deciding that the next time she left the house, she would wear some pants. The shirt was long enough to keep from showing off anything when she was standing, but sitting down was a completely different story. Deciding it best not to sit, she instead walked over to where her father was at and leaned against him as she started to drink the alcohol. She noted others in the bar as well, but decided to just watch for a while before getting changed into her party clothing.

"You got the easy job," Desmond told Snow with a wink to Chloe. "You should see me house after she got through wi' it."

He seemed in good enough spirits, despite the news Chloe had just given him, and he picked up his line of questioning amiably enough.

"Was there any sign that you 'ad shifted, between work and your apartment?" Desmond asked. "I know you said you can't remember, but what about little things. Changes in clothes, appetite, physical aches an' pains that weren't there before?"

"An' you say that Bowen said you didn't attack 'im? Might be this is a step in the right direction, rather than a sign of things gettin' worse. There's a balance to be found between the 'uman an' the wolf, an for you this seems truer than most. You'll get there. I'd like to see you shift for meself though, if you would allow me one night."

Chloe half way choked on her drink as soon as Snow walked up and started talking. She suddenly seemed to clam up slightly. "Er.. Nice to meet you.. I don't know if I ever got introduced.. Eh heh.." She chuckled sheepishly. "I'm Chloe.. Nice to meet you.."

She turned back to Desmond and flinched as he continued asking her questions. "Sore, but I was wearing the same clothes.. I'm always hungry now it seems.." She buried herself back into her beer. She really didn't seem comfortable with more of the pack showing up to listen to their conversation.

Snow grimaced when Desmond mentioned Jesse. "I thought you'd heard. My mom found tracks in a clearing in the forest. Smelled of the Scions. Didn't look like there'd been too much of a struggle, and there was no blood... So we've got to assume they've got him still."

He glanced backwards at Baron. He'd not given any word on the matter so far. It was a tough situation - any open conflict with the Scions now would end badly for both them and the Bloodstones. It would be bloody.

Sighing, he looked back with a frown. "It's going to be difficult to help him."

He looked to Chloe, and the frown softened slightly into a half-smile, "For what it's worth, by the way, I was on the side of 'not'."

Aimée stood silently for a few more minutes before moving back over to where her bag was at. Unzipping the fabric, she dug through the thing, trying to locate what she was looking for. She had quite a bit of different clothing in the bag, trying to be prepared for any type of situation. Not only that, she often forgot to remove her clothing before shifting, which ended up shredding whatever she was wearing. Yawning a little, she stripped out of the t-shirt and thong she was wearing, leaving her completely naked. Digging around a little more, she finally found something she could wear, though she probably would change another three times before actually heading off to the party.

Pulling out a pair of boxers that belonged to her roommate and a strapless black bra, she slid into the undergarments. Peeking into the bag, she nodded before tugging on a simple black strapless dress that stopped mid-thigh. Slipping on a pair of cute sandals, she shrugged a little and shoved her other clothing into another part of the bag before zipping it up and slipping it behind the bar counter to collect later. Moving back to the pool table, she grabbed a pole cue, twirling it around a little,

“Dad, I know I don’t even live with you anymore, but I feel the necessity to ask permission from you regardless, since you know more about dangers than I do, mostly because I don’t pay attention. So, are you fine with me going out to a party?” Aimée roved her gaze around the bar, before trying to remember what she did with the beer she had snatched earlier.

"I think everything's under control here for now," Jacques answered.

The look he threw Baron's way told a different answer though.

'I think our fearless leader is too preoccupied to do anything about our missing pack member tonight,' he thought to himself.

He never voiced it out loud though as he turned his eyes back to the pool table where he was lining up a shot. Aimee might have caught the light touch of disapproval in the look he had tossed towards Baron though. Bastien did as well, and he threw an equally disapproving look at Jacques.

"You should take one of the pack with you though," he said as the pool cue struck a ball. "We already have one pack member missing."

Chloe frowned. She hadn't been in Lutetia long, but that was a name she learned early on. Scions of Aodhan was a name that was whispered with almost everything that was wrong with Lutetia. And their pack leader, Rowan, was a nearly untouchable man.

But the fact that someone was possibly kidnapped by this man, set the old detective side of Chloe off.

"No.. I've not heard of anything with Scions until now, though I know they've been associated with a few cases that we've not been able to pinpoint anything on them.." She narrowed her eyes at her glass. "What can I do to help?"
