The Multiverse

Setting

Current Barkeep - Vasaren "Lefty" Stormbird, a tall elven male. He has sleek, long, black hair. The most noticeable thing about him is his arcane magic powered left hand. He has no real fingers left, just bits of metal connected by flowing veins of violet magic. (As played by: Vexar) He was recently nearly fired after an incident caused the entire bar to be filled with the most pesky substance known to man. Glitter.

Atmosphere (Comfortable) - Due to improved trade, food and ale is in good supply and of fine quality. Prices are fair, the lasses and lads fairer, and customers are happy.

Current Special - Grouse with gooseberry jam Ӎ2, House Wine Ӎ2.

Topics of Conversation
• The opening of an exotic beast shop.
• A ship recently activated the defense systems of the port and had to be put in stasis as it came in too fast. Since then it has been removed from stasis, and docked.

Random Events
• People cringe as someone runs a knife too hard over a plate, causing it to screech.
• An oil lamp flickers out. After a brief pause, the lamp flutters back to life. Someone at the table asks another person if they felt a chill too.

Things of note
• Being so close to The Grand Gate has forced this tavern to become somewhat of an emergency stronghold for Proxi guards in the past. It is a well known fact that the tavern also holds a fortified keep with its own armory deep within the tavern walls.
• The mosaic windows, firelight, and candles are rarely the same colors. They slowly shift and glimmer into different hues throughout the day, often suiting the mood and weather. When asked, the current barkeep 'Vasaren Stormbird' always responds that it was a long lost enchantment that caused the charming effect.

The Drunken Griffon

The tavern is found just a short walk away from the entrance gate. It seems only to be busy during the latter part of the day.

Rahal snorted, and then hiccuped and then shook his head. "Give me a sec to clean up then." He grumbled and carefully, focusing on his magic, worked his mojo. It wasn't long until both their stools were back to normal, the glitter stopped falling, the ducks disappeared, and the flowers on the tables were gone as well. He may be drunk, but he could still work magic well enough.

He hiccuped, and then glared at the sparrow that appeared on the counter. "Oh go away." He had merely sent the rubber ducks to the chaos realm. Let them deal with it. The mage didn't have the presence of mind to deconstruct them right now. "Some times I want to do things that are bad for me, Catherine. Did that occur to you?"

He hiccuped again and resumed his seat, hunched over at the bar, looking for all the world like an old drunk rather than a powerful mage. "It's not like I have a damn thing to live for. The occasional drunkenness and the release of fairly harmless magic...where's the harm?" There was none.

Frowning at the glitter still stuck in her hair, she doubted even a shower would get in out. "Oh it occurs to me very much... some of us have the benefit of being able to do it more than others." She pointed out. There was a number of things she'd love to do, but somehow she'd ended up being so closely watched by Council, that it simply wasn't possible. There was the Fae Court, but that grew old after awhile.

"You're such a drama queen for a human Rahal." Catherine said, forgetting momentarily to self censor. "But I'm sure your well aware of the consequences with your magic." Weren't they all?

He focused a moment longer, internally, until he was thoroughly sobered up. "There. Sober." He grumbled and shook his head. "And drama queen for a human?" He stressed the last three words, and then glanced around the bar. Most of the patrons were in the know, thank Ra, but some might night be. Well, they'd think themselves drunk, he decided. The mage looked her over, then himself over.

"Given we're bother covered in glitter, I don't think I can deny it." This was going to be a bitch to get out of his hair. Not even a shower would work. "...How exactly does one get rid of this much glitter?" Magic never got all of it, regardless of any attempts. The mage frowned as he looked himself over, sober now. "...Well. I'm not going back to court tonight." It would be centuries before they forgot the glitter he was covered in, he was pretty sure.

"I don't think you want the answer to that question Rahal." Catherine said plainly, and for a moment it hung between the two with an uncomfortable silence. "Remove glitter? I thought you knew, considering you effectively glitter bombed me and the whole tavern..." She said trailing off as she took her seat again, contemplating the removal of the offending item in question. "I don't think you would, vampires don't seem to have any sense of humor unless it's the misfortune of others." Catherine remarked as she tried to brush glitter off and out of her shirt sleeves.

Sighing audibly, she knew she was going to have to go back to the office covered in the stuff. That would probably give them a good laugh at her expense.

"I can get rid of some of it, but...it's in my hair, and getting it out of that will be...tricky." Still, he did cast the spell to remove the majority of the glitter, so it wouldn't be nearly as noticeable. They still twinkled under the lights, but at least it wasn't as bad as before. He winced. This was not one of his finest hours. "The only spells I can think of that would remove anymore would leave us both looking like we rolled out of bed without braiding back out hair the night before." That would be potentially worse, given the length of his hair.

He always braided his hair before sleep. It meant a hell of a lot less brushing that he'd otherwise have to put up with. The mage sighed and glanced at her. "So. How much more do you dislike me than you did before?"

Catherine frowned at the mention of the spell, combing her hair out would be tedious and time consuming considering in recent years she'd just allowed it to grow without much of a style. "Let's not go that route then, considering." She said slowly. While most of the glitter was gone, the stuff was going to possibly stick around for awhile; stuck in her hair, clothing, and to what little makeup she wore. What was even worse was it had attached itself very stubbornly to the lenses of her glasses, making it difficult to see.

Looking at Rahal in confusion, Catherine considered her answer carefully. "I never said I disliked or hated you."

Rahal raised an eyebrow. "You don't have to say a damn thing to make it clear you don't like someone." He pointed out. "You didn't like me even when you contracted me to teach your boy control." It had been a necessary, and long, lesson. The child wasn't about to learn an ounce of chaos magic from him of course, but the principles of control were a universal constant. "It was pretty clear even back then."

He noticed her trouble with the lenses and snorted, tapping the frames of her glasses. The glitter promptly fell off them, along with any other smudges or dirt. It wasn't the first time he had performed the spell and it wasn't like there was a single clean cloth in this entire establishment.

"Thank you." She said as she put the glasses back on. "Look, I can't apologize for everything all those years ago and expect you to accept it. Truth be told I was under a lot of pressure, both work and personal." Catherine tried to explain. Time at Broadmoore had given her some amount of introspection, but she normally didn't say much about it. "And I appreciate you teaching Brandon, even if some of the methods were unorthodox... they've come in handy." She suspected a lot of the skills that he had put to use at behest of Alexander had been learned from Rahal in one way or another.

"Things are.. better now. Not great, but better."

"I'm glad you're doing better." He said quietly and looked her over. Time had shocked her hair white. That wasn't a good thing at all. Still, he shrugged. "And apology accepted. Sorry I'm an ass when we have to talk business. I may have been raised by the Ra, but all that really gave me was a healthy fear of said Ra, not a head for politics." A very healthy fear. He had seen his foster father drain men dry for displeasing him, and would do whatever he could in politics to avoid doing just that.

He may be the man's foster child, but he was ruthless, and would kill him all the same for disappointing him too much. It would be much worse than any remedial training if his father was pissed at him. Much, much worse. His political skills and the maneuvering he did in Court were all forced onto him by his father's second in command. The very invaluable skills, of course, but difficult to obtain.

"It's extremely difficult to have a head for politics when that knowledge is based on fear. Granted, the Seelie Court is vastly different from any of the vampire ones I suspect." Catherine replied carefully. Oberon and Tatiana had been kind to her and her father, especially after her adoptive mother had died. But never had they let Catherine forget that politics in the fae world were vicious, and that sometimes there would need to be a counter for every attack. Leading her to be just as capable as any fae when it came to magic, although not very well versed in every kind.

However, in both worlds politics were serious business. If you expected to survive, you were expected to be ruthless and heartless if you had to be.
